Heise: Wave of dissuasions against Open Source Network Software Samba (Update)

Samba is an application which allows to use Unix and Linux platforms for server and client in a Windows network.
This free for download program belongs to the most popular successful projects of the open source software area.

In the meanwhile I have a notion that dissuasions are mutating
into a marketing strategy and are no longer
ought to enforce rights, but only to serve the purpose to arrest
attention. The senders of these dissuasions can be sure of the
entire press to jump at this subject. The advertising effect is
invaluable, cause even negative advertising is in
fact advertising, as already well known. That often very enthusiastic
people who worked hard and often without
any payment for their project are driven to economic ruin by this, is
just the fly shit falling through the grid. :-(

CMG statement on SAMBA
«In the meanwhile emerged the responsibility of name for open source software belongs to an Australian internet company.
CMG will contact this company and try to achieve an agreement, so that the in Germany incidentally same name can no longer
lead to any misconceptions.
At the same time CMG will stop the dissuasiveness procedure against the contacted companies, which just offer
support for the open source software. Also no further dissuasivenesses are planned. After all it is not CMG's intention
to harm the buisness of open source offerors or to handicap distribution or use of these products.»
