AROS for AmigaOS: Updates to icon.library and picture.datatype for AfA
Bernd Roesch has released updates to icon.library as well as to picture.datatype for his AmigaOS port of AROS components, "AROS for AmigaOS" (AfA).
With these, it is now possible to employ the Workbench plugin Eastern for generating thumbnail icons under AfA as well (reported by amiga-news.de).
To this end, the icon.library now supports "globalidentify hook," which is required by Eastern as well as by DefIcons. Additionally, the version was changed to V51 and AmigaOS 4 compatibility for reading and writing 24 bit icon data was added.
Version 1.5 of Eastern is required, in addition, when using cache, the Raw option must be set.
The new picture.datatype now supports scaling in the function DT_Readpixelarray, which is also required by Eastern. Also, more 8 bit ILBM images are displayed correctly on a "classic" Amiga with Picasso 96 or CyberGraphX.
Moreover, in 32 and 24 bit images on 16 bit screens, a dithering takes place, so that color gradients as in the original picture.datatype are not visible. In this regard, the author Thilo Köhler thanks for the source code.
The update is rounded off with an extension to the FAQ collection for Eastern and the picture.datatype under CyberGraphX on Amiga computers.

Thumbnail Icons: Eastern 1.5
Stephan Rupprecht's Eastern is a Workbench plugin that automatically displays a thumbnail preview instead of the default icon for images that do not have their own icon. The latest changes:
- v1.5: added RAW/S option to speed up loading of cached icons
- v1.4: no longer needs progressive mode for the cache, added WAITUPDATE option
- v1.3: in 1.2 the cache was limited to Workbench, now all apps are cached. The 68k build of Eastern assumes an OS4 compatible icon.library when the version number of the library is v51 or higher. In this case truecolor icons will be created. internal release
Eastern is available for AmigaOS 3 and 4. (cg) (Translation: cad)

Reissue: PCMCIA right angled adapter for A600/A1200
Those who want to transplant an Amiga 600/1200 in another (tower) case, are often confronted with the problem that the PCMCIA slot lies directly to the case wall and is no longer accessible.
Since the PCMCIA right angled adapters, which were developed for such problem cases, are no longer being produced for years, the British dealer amigakit.com has decided to reissue the product. (cg) (Translation: cad)

AmigaOS 4: First signs for Classic-version
On the website of Acube Systems there are first signs for the planned publication of the Classic-version of AmigaOS 4. Additional to an advertise over the full page which was published in three different Amiga magazines there is a (still empty) list with compatible hardware, too.
At ACube it is said of an "AmigaOS 4 for Amiga 3000 and 4000". An A1200-version "will be still announced", just like information to the prices.

MorphOS: OpenTTD 0.5.1 published
The OpenTTD-team has published the final version OpenTTD 0.5.1.
OpenTTD is an Open-Source clone of the well-known PC-strategy game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe" from the 90ies with many extensions - so a network modus, individual graphic sets and adaptions to over 20 languages.
OpenTTD 0.5.1 is similar to version 0.5.0 but contains a long list of bug fixes. Please have a look at the TT-forum.
OpenTTD is available for all important operating systems inclusive MorphOS. A compiling for AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4 or AROS is still missing but according to the developer of MorphOS-port, Christian Rosentreter, this should be possible without major problems. The source code is "AmigaOS-ready" but he neither cannot create nor test it because of the missing hardware.
