Rogue-like game: Roguecraft V0.4.3
In October 2022, Budger Punch announced an Amiga version of their C64 game Rogue64 with improved graphics and adapted features (amiga-news.de reported). At the beginning of August a demo version was released for the AmiGameJam 2022 (YouTube video). Now a first update is available which among others fixes some bugs. The developers wrote:
"We have fixed issue with the game turning real-time when you tap the fire-button. We have added an instructions screen, and an (currently empty) Achievements screen. The spikes now work in the game. Be careful! The player now moves smoothly when there are not monsters in the room, to make backtracking less tedious.
We have also fixed some graphical glitches, and random memory writes that would corrupt the music. Hopefully this is good now, or at least a lot better!
There are other changes you will just have to find out yourselves. Have fun finding them!
We also want to say THANK YOU for all the awesome feedback and suggestions from all of you playing our game. It is so lovely so see the community embracing this hobby project, and want to help us make this a great game!" (dr)

Mediathek V0.3 for all Amiga systems
In early August, we presented Jörg Renkert's Hollywood implementation of the MediathekView program for Amiga systems. Five days ago he updated to version 0.3. It would have been quick to write a report about it, but we wanted to test the program in more detail, especially with regard to streaming.
In addition to some adjustments and bug fixes, the information on a selected program is now no longer displayed on the bottom right-hand side, but on the left-hand side in a separate tab, which is automatically switched to when a program is selected.
In our first article, streaming did not work at all, although we were told by Edgar Schwan, among others, that it worked for him. So let's take another closer look. Jörg Renkert has clarified the usage again in his German instructions: next to the path to the preferred player, a "%u" must be appended, which transfers the link of the stream to the program.
One thing can be said in advance: Emotion is the only video player that could stream all videos. On the X5000, however, it only makes sense to use the low quality, as the picture and sound are no longer synchronized with the medium quality. Incidentally, ORF programs can neither be streamed nor downloaded. All fields are grayed out. There are two different MPlayer versions for AmigaOS 4 in the OS4Depot:
- Liveforit-MPlayerNG, based on MPlayer 1.1.1
- MickJT-MPlayer, based on MPlayer 1.3.0, in two versions:
The Liveforit-MPlayerNG for AmigaOS 4 cannot stream broadcasts any more than Fabien Coeurjoly's port of MPlayer 1.1.1 for MorphOS (the only one that runs without AltiVec and can therefore be used on the AmigaOne X5000).
First I checked which version of MickJT-MPlayer was installed: of course the wrong one, the one for HD graphics cards...Perfect, error found, I thought. So I unpacked the RX version, read the readme (!): I found the note there that I also needed the older version for HD graphics cards (the full archive). Good, also unpacked. Then copied the (supposed) RX version to the disk in my existing directory and saw that the archives are otherwise no different. Started the media library again, selected the program, let MPLayer stream - error message again:
Can't be true... Should Edgar have swindled me? Of course not! ;) So out of desperation (or cleverness? ;) I chose another program and tried again. And what happened? I could suddenly hear sound! And read in the text of the output window that no window could be opened using the "comp_yuv2" driver. Why was that? And slowly it dawned on me: when unpacking the HD version of the MickJT player, I had probably overwritten the RX version...stupid mistake! So, I unpacked the RX archive again, and lo and behold: the application now had an "RX" at the end. So, I copied it over, selected the transmission, timidly pressed the "E" button, and?
There you go! :) To be on the safe side, I asked Daniel Westerberg again, who had uploaded the RX version. The only difference between the HD and RX version is actually only in the replacement of the graphics card driver used: the HD version from 2018 searches for the "RadeonHD.chip" at startup and refuses to open a window if it is not found or the corresponding graphics card is present. He simply replaced this "HD" with "RX" in the exe file.
When I tried it out further, however, I noticed that there are programs for which MickJT-MPlayer still refuses to play with the above error message. If you want to see an example: just enter the search term "Garten" and then select the BR program "Bauerngärten". It could not be the codec used, as both working and non-functioning programs used "libavformat version 57.25.100".
I contacted Edgar Schwan again and the clever fox found the reason: the "Bauerngärten" movie is on the server "https://cdn-storage.br.de". Edgar had tried to download it using the "wget" tool. The answer he got was:
'The certificate owner does not match the hostname "cdn-storage.br.de"'.
He then switched off the certificate check and called the following command in the shell:
wget --no-check-certificate
https://cdn-storage.br.de/MUJIuUOVBwQIbtCCBLzGiLC1uwQoNA4p_AQS/_-dS/_Akp5-Fd571S/d2cdb4c7-b7e3-4b0a-89ec-1a43bdf5d273_E.mp4
And: now it works! By the way, also with the LiveForIt-MPlayer! So if it is possible to deactivate this certificate check in the media library, you could then also use the LiveForIt-MPlayer and (presumably) also stream under MorphOS.
The only remaining question is why the DvPlayer cannot stream: as Hans de Ruiter (who gave the DvPlayer hardware acceleration) told us, in his opinion the libavformat library used should in principle be able to stream over the network. The use of this feature could be added in future versions of DvPlayer. (dr)

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.9.24
RedPill, developed by Carlos Peris, is a game construction kit written in Amiblitz 3.98, which allows the development of games from various genres (see short tests of two Redpill games). RedPill is compatible with AGA and ECS, the "player" for playing the finished creations requires a total of 1.5 MB RAM. Jens 'Farbfinsternis' Henschel has written a tutorial.
The new version 0.9.24 provides the following changes:
- Added support for 64 global variables, it was 32.
- In the exported game only the used variables will be allocated, potentially
saving some memory.
- Fix in the tile animations that was causing the exported games using them to
run very slowly.
- Simplified handling of reading exporting projects.
- Fixes and implementations related to custom fonts usage in HUD and in
triggers.
- Exact values for friction and weight can now be set up and displayed.
- Trigger help routines have been improved.
- More triggers have been documented in the in-editor help.
- Optimizations in the main loop of the game.
- Optimizations in the tile comparison triggers.
- Optimizations in the player input triggers.
- Optimizations in the render code.
- Some memory was wasted when changing the current mod being played, this has
been optimized.
- Some unused code has been removed.
- Fixed a bug in Absolute Zero project when going back to menu and starting a
stage again.

Emulation: Simplified installation guide for AmigaOS 4.1 under QEMU
In mid-April Amiga-News.de had published Rene Engel's updated installation guide of AmigaOS 4.1 under QEMU 8.1. Since then numerous attempts have been made to improve the emulation and simplify the installation. Rene Engel has kindly summarised the efforts for us and published a correspondingly updated and simplified installation guide in the forum (German):
"The QEMU developer Balaton Zoltan, who mainly concentrates on the Amiga operating systems MorphOS and AmigaOS 4.1 by means of Qmiga, has written an alternative boot loader for the Pegasos-2 emulation, which he himself calls BBoot. This bootloader simplifies Pegasos-2 installation many times over (YouTube video).
The modification of the Pegasos-2-Install-ISO and Pegasos2.Rom are no longer necessary. AmigaOS 4.1 Update 3 is also no longer needed, as A-Cube has made the Silicon Motion chip required for the emulation freely available on OS4Depot.
The new driver can now display resolutions up to 1920x1080, the limitation to 16 bit remains for the time being. With the new boot loader, up to 2048 MB memory allocation is now possible under the QEMU Pegasos 2 emulation. The boot process has accelerated again with the new boot loader.
They are currently working on an AmigaOne emulation, which already works to a limited extent."

Platform game: Tony demo version v1.2
Tony by Monochrome Productions is a monochrome platform game that is now available in version 1.2 on Aminet (YouTube video). After the programmer Paweł 'tukinem' Tukatsch first had written games like Farmiga in AMOS, he switched to the Blitz Basic 2 programming language and "trained" his skills with games like Ami-Tower or Wood Block Puzzle. Tony is now to be the first major game written with Blitz Basic 2, which is a tribute to the Polish journalist and travel writer Tony Halik.
As an explorer in the style of Indiana Jones, you travel through ancient ruins and try to avoid snakes, creepy insects and deadly pits with spikes. There are also various keys to find. In the new demo version 1.2, there is a new game menu and the entry of a code at the end of a level has been removed. Instead, you now have to collect the last key. In addition, throwing potions from the inventory has been removed: if you collect a key and have a full inventory, a potion turns into a key by itself.
If you are in the mood for some visual variety, you can now try out different colour palettes in the settings. (dr)

MorphOS: Ninth beta version of TinyGL
MorphOS team developer Mark 'Bigfoot' Olsen had offered a bounty project for improved OpenGL support as well as drivers for more Radeon graphics cards under the title link, which has been successfully funded (amiga-news.de reported). Now the developer has released the ninth public beta version of his TinyGL update which mainly includes a preview of the R600 driver even though there are still plenty of known issues with the R600 driver.
As the developer explained, "in this update only Evergreen and Northern Islands based Radeons are supported. Support for R600 and R700 based Radeons will be added at a later date." Since the R600 driver is a preview driver, it must be expected that many applications and games will either be misrendered or cause the system to crash. The author asks to report any problems.
The newly supported Radeon graphics cards are all of the Radeon HD-5000 series, all of the Radeon HD-6000 series and the following cards:
- Radeon HD 7350
- Radeon HD 7450

AmigaOS 4: Sylpheed 3.7.0 for AmiCygnix released
Edgar Schwan wrote: Version 3.7.0 of the email client Sylpheed is available for AmiCygnix (snapshot). It is based on GTK+ GUI Toolkit. The design and
user interface is similar to many well-known email programs from the Windows
world, such as Outlook Express.
Why another mailer? Sylpheed has a very good support of the IMAP4 protocol,
which is currently only available with a few Amiga mailers. But Sylpheed
also has other interesting features.
New in this release:
- Update to the latest stable version of Sylpheed. The program was ported from scratch and some bugs were fixed that way.
- Working remote control of Sylpheed. Sylpheed can only be started once, when started again, the options are passed to the running program.
- Update to SQLite 3.9.3 in "bogofilter 1.2.5".
Supported protocols:
- POP3 / APOP
- IMAP4rev1
- SMTP / SMTP AUTH
- NNTP (News)
- SSL / TLSv1 (POP3, SMTP, IMAP4rev1, NNTP)
Features:
- multiple accounts
- thread display
- newsreader
- printing
- address book
- templates
- external editor (e.g. Vim, which has spell checking)
- powerful filtering (POP3, IMAP4, local spool)
- powerful search (query search, quick search, search folder)
- customization of toolbar
- mark / color label
- and much more

Video player: Amos Anim Player V2023.08.12
The "Amos Anim Player" of the group "ELECTRIC BLACK SHEEP" is a very simple IFF-ANIM player that runs on any Amiga. It can play compressed IFF-Anim formats synchronised with a separate IFF Audio Sample (or MOD) (amiga-news.de reported). Changes since our last news item:
- Reducer: Overal motion sensitivity is set to automatic (considering the amount of changes between frames)
- Reducer: fine sensitivity is adjustable by user
- Reducer: High/Normal/Low Quality option (more blocks but smaller size)
- Reducer: Bug Fix (related to: every fourth line left some residue/arifact)
- Player : Screen was not double buffered after reselect a new file to play.(fixed)
- Player : Fast forward/Rew step is fixed to 100 frames, now eats less ram. Now 14 kb, previously was 720K because the program loged everey frame!
- Reducer: Filter against noise
- Player: Something to handle the error of Amos (when anim framesize above 40Kb)
- Player: Fast forward/Reward is fixed, loged, saved and auto loaded if the anim is already been played. So forward is faster to use, because if the log exist.... it is a direct jump.

AMOS: Eclips animation in "Projects in the attic" updated
At the end of November, the game developer group "Electric Black Sheep" had published a collection of games under the name "Projects in the attic", which were created for test purposes with the programming language AMOS (amiga-news.de reported). Included was the game "Eclips", in which you steer an owl through a landscape that is always the same. The group added the archive "EclipsAnim.rar" to this game, which offered a complete animation in the sense of changing landscapes. This was updated today and the member Sövény Imre explained us:
"By default, I can't put a blitter object on top of an iff animation, because AMOS automatically updates the surface underneath to a previous state when the blitter object is moved.
That's why so far I could only move sprites over it, because it didn't spoil it, but in that way I could move one "large" sprite over it.
In the new upload, however, there are several large blitter objects above it. It's slow, but worth a try." (dr)

AmigaOS 4: Amiga Game Framework
After Janne Peräaho dedicated himself to porting Python games to AmigaOS 4 among other things in the past (amiga-news.de reported), he has now started a completely new project: the "Amiga Game Framework". "Amiga Game Framework" is intended for programming 2D games under AmigaOS 4 and offers a user-friendly and intuitive C-API for 2D graphics, playing sounds, reading user input and more.
Asked about the motivation and intention of his project, Janne explains that he intends to use it in future game ports, but also hopes it will inspire other programmers to write new 2D games for AmigaOS 4. The goal is to make the programming interface so simple that anyone with basic C programming skills can write a game with it.
And he continued explaining: "The programming interface (API) is object oriented. First you create a game object by calling GetFrameworkInterface() function and then you can call the returned object's methods, like OpenWindow(), Line(), etc.
The framework is a set of include files that you include in your code like this: #include <frameworks/game/game.h> "
Janne has not yet published the source code of the framework because the event handler is still missing. Without it, you can't write real games because you can't recognise keystrokes or mouse movements, nor can you close the game window by clicking the close button. Currently, he is working on elementary geometric shapes, so-called graphic primitives. The project status picture on "OS4 Coding" shows which parts of the framework are finished and which are still in progress:
All the planned drawing functions (graphic primitives) are ready, but some of them still need to be improved. Currently, he is still thinking about how music should be integrated: should one be able to control a CD-ROM drive to play music, should there be a software synthesiser that one controls, MIDI support, or should the music be streamed from an OGG/MP3 file. On his project page, he has published a few example pictures as well as archives. (dr)

AmigaOS 4: AAMP 2.0 (Apache, MySQL and PHP)
Edgar Schwan wrote: This package offers a development environment on your Amiga, with which you
can create and test your own web projects. Similar to the well-known XAMPP
package for Linux and Windows, it contains the HTTP (web) server "Apache"
with compiled-in support for the scripting language "PHP" (version 8.0.28 and
5.2.10) and the database server "MySQL" version 5.5.10.
AAMP is not only interesting for developers. This means that web applications can also be run locally on the Amiga. These are e.g. the database administrator "phpMyAdmin" or the image manager "Coppermine" - just to name a few.
You can create your own tools with the included "php" interpreter. "PHP" is easy to learn and with its extensions a powerful language.
New in PHP 8 is the ability to use the "php" tool as a web server, so it is a simple alternative to Apache.
Last but not least, data can be managed with the "MySQL" database server, which can then also be accessed via the network. External programs (e.g. IODBC) can use this server as a database backend.
New in AAMP 2.0:
- New version 8.0.28 of PHP. Together with the new MySQL server, the latest web applications can be used again.
The old version 5.2.10 is still included to keep older projects running.
You can switch between the two versions at any time using a script.
- Updated MySQL database server from version 5.1.35 to version 5.5.10.
- Updates of the tools "myApacheStarter" and "mySQLcontrol" - now also with Italian and Spanish localization.
- The Subversion package including Apache's WebDAV modules is now included and enabled by default.
- Updates of the used libraries:
- curl 7.19.7 -> curl 7.61.1
- libgcrypt 1.2.4 -> libgcrypt 1.8.2
- libgpg-error 1.4 -> libgpg-error 1.27
- libiconv 1.9.2 -> libiconv 1.17
- libpng 1.2.13 -> libpng 1.2.49
- libxml2 2.6.19 -> libxml2 2.9.14
- libxslt 1.1.14 -> libxslt 1.1.34
- openssl 1.0.0d -> openssl 1.0.2o
- PDFlib-Lite 6.0.1 -> PDFlib-Lite 7.0.5p3 (only PHP 5)
- tiff v3.4 -> tiff 3.8.2
- neon 0.29.0 -> neon 0.31.1
- sqlite 3.4.2 -> sqlite 3.9.3
- subversion 1.6.17 -> subversion 1.6.23
- Newly added libraries and tools:
- cadaver 0.23.3 (WebDAV-Client)
- coreutils 5.2.1 (utilities for the Unix shell)
- gmp 6.2.0 (library for arbitrary precision arithmetic)
- gnutls 3.7.3 (modern implementation of the TLS/SSL protocol)
- libtasn1 4.9 (an ASN.1 encryption library)
- libwebp 0.5.2 (library to encode and decode images in WebP format)
- nettle 3.7 (a cryptographic library)
- openldap 2.4.49 (implements LDAP directory services)
- Now includes a customized version of the ABC shell called "ampsh". This
avoids collisions with other packages that use the ABC shell, such as the
AmigaOS4 SDK or AmiCygnix.
With a script in the AAMP main directory you can start it on the workbench
and access the AAMP tools directly.
- This package is a complete rebuild of AAMP. This and extensive trouble-
shooting eliminated many problems that were still in AAMP 1.0.
- The base library "libaos4util" has been completely revised.

Dungeon Crawler: The Last Dungeon V0.7.1C
As a contribution to AmiGameJam 2022, 'PixelPlop' had released a first, playable, but still incomplete version of "The Last Dungeon" (YouTube video). Now he has released another update, fixing several bugs:
- Fixed multiple issues with the status panel not displaying the correct number of gold/keys/bombs.
- Enemies can now display the item they are carrying which will hopefully make it less likely to miss the key in the first room on the right!
- Fixed a bug where image draw offsets were getting reset to 0 when loading graphics from DAT files.
- Fixed a bug where the auto map would sometimes not draw correctly for the first room.
- Fixed a bug where pushable objects would sometimes draw the tile to the left when restoring background tiles.
- Fixed a bug where the spinning sword on the title screen would draw in the wrong colours after returning from the character select screen

Programming language: Third public alpha version of "Amos Professional Unity"
By means of his "Amos Professional Unity" project, Frédéric 'AmiDARK' Cordier is in the process of adding new features - such as AGA support - to the classic BASIC compiler AMOS Professional (YouTube video on AGA sprites). Now he has published the third public alpha version (V0.4) on his GitHub page with the following changes:
- Removed non kept extra commands for Custom Screens modes. Rebuild all the Custom Screens system.
- Added space in file 'configuration/APUnity_Editor_Config.s' for eXtensions registration system
- Added new command : GFXMODE = get saga c2p screen mode( Width, Height, Depth, Scanmode ) [AmosProUnity.lib/L_L_GetSagaC2PScreenModeEx]
- Added new command : GFXMODE = get saga c2p screen mode( Width, Height, Depth ) [AmosProUnity.lib/L_GetSagaC2PScreenMode]
- Started new command : open custom screen ScreenID, Width, Height, GFXMODE
- Added SAGA CPU/GFX Detection at startup to open SAGA library version when available.
- Added SAGA Chunky screen support in copper list.
- Reverted Aga/sprites.s file to previous version due to a bug in Aga Sprites.
- Reverted Compiler_Shell.AMOS to Original fixed a compiler crash
- Fix AMOSProUnity_Support.Lib functions set fixed a compiler crash
- Fix AMOSProUnity_SpecialFX.Lib functions set fixed a compiler crash
- Now Amos Professional Unity examples can be compiled without crash
- Upgrade compiler to compile with AGAP Sprites/Bobs/Icons banks
- Fixed issue with Get Bob/Sprite/Icon palette to now handle fully RGB24 bits colors
- Update Header.s bank load to handle AGAP color mode ( 256 colors AGA ) from Bank that are inside executable (Bob/Sprite/Icon)
- update Header.s also fix Get Bob/Sprite/Icon Palette commands when program is compiled.
- Update CompExt.s compiler extension for squashed programs to handle AGAP color mode (Bob/Sprite/Icon)
We had first reported on Frédéric Cordier's submissions at the end of 2019, at that time still operating under the name "Amos Professional X". We took this publication as an opportunity to ask him for a summary of his efforts to date, which he kindly provided immediately:
"The Amos Professional Unity is a project I work on in my spare time, together with my other project for the Amiga called "Grimoire" (amiga-news.de reported).
Even though I don't often report about changes or news, I do a lot of work in the background (e.g. compiler problems), because the compiler source code is not documented and is a bit more complex than Amos Professional itself. A few key points about the project:
- Amos Professional Source code was completely reorganized to fit the requirements of AGA support upgrade times ago.
- Source code is available publicly on GitHub
- Many changes were done to achieve support for AGA Chipsets that makes Amos Professional Unity being not compatible with older Amos Professional extensions that uses internal Amos Professional structures (the structures evoled, for example to support 8 bitplanes max instead of previously 6, 256 colors instead of previously 32, etc.)
- Amos professional now have a good AGA support. It will be improved, but it is already interesting for AGA video game creation.
And these features are already supported by "Amos Professional Unity"
- Support lowres AGA graphics up to 256 colors and HAM8 using 24 bits colors support
- Support hires AGA graphics up to 256 colors and Ham8 using 24 bits colors support
- Interlaced is supported for the two above resolutions (lowres and hires)
- Bobs and icons also support up to 256 colors using 24 bits colors support
- Create/Load/Save Sprites/Bobs/Icons banks with AGA colors up to 256 colors is supported.
- AGA Sprites up to 64 pixels wide are also supported using 4 or 16 colors, and native Amos Professional sprites combination using 4 or 16 colors was improved to support AGA sprites width (you can setup a sprite up to 256 pixels wide with 16 colors using all 8 sprites for example).
- AGA Sprites are only low resolution sprites. Hires resolution is not yet added.
- Native commands like "Screen Open" are upgraded to support 256 Colors ( ex. Screen Open 0,320,200,256,lowres+laced )
- Native commands like "Colour" are upgraded to support 24 bits ( ex. Colour 1,Rgb24( 255,128, 0 ) )
- Amos Professional Unity compiled program can detect at running time if configuration run on ECS/OCS or AGA, and user can then create adaptative source code for video game ( The same compiled .exe can open ECS screen on ECS configuration and AGA screen on AGA configuration ).
"Amos Professional Unity" offers a range of new commands that were documented in the course of the releases of the first alpha version or second alpha version. Some commands are not yet documented because they are still in the development process:
- Create Rainbow Fx Bank BANK
- Set Rainbow Fx Color BANK, COLOR_INDEX
- Set Rainbow Fx Color Line BANK, YLINE, RGB24ColorValue
- Apply Rainbow Fx To Screen BANK : Apply to current screen
- Remove Rainbow Fx From Screen
- = Get Rainbow Fx Color Line( BANK, YLINE )
An other extension (Special FX) was also added to the project. It is a mix between my old AmosPro_Personal.lib and new commands. It bring some new commands to Amos Professional Unity (not documented on the website), and more will come in the future:
- Set Ntsc : Push to 60Hz mode
- Set Pal : Push to 50Hz mode
- = Right Click()
- = Fire( 1,BUTTONID ) : Where button ID can be 2 or 3
- Ehb : Can be used to open screen using 64 Half Brite colors (ECS)
- Ham6 : Can be used to open screen using Ham6 ( 4096 colors ) screens (ECS)
- Create Memblock BANK, SIZE_IN_BYTES : Create a memory block, this command set is inspired from Dark BASIC v1 & Professional )
- = Memblock Exist( BANK )
- = Get Memblock Size( BANK )
- Write Memblock Long BANK, POSITION_IN_BYTES, 32BITSVALE : Write a 32 Bits value at POSITION_IN_BYTES of the memblock BANK
- = Memblock Long( BANK, POSITION ) : Will return the 32 Bits value stored at POSITION in the memblock BANK
- Write Memblock WordBANK, POSITION_IN_BYTES, 16BITSVALE : Write a 16 Bits value at POSITION_IN_BYTES of the memblock BANK
- = Memblock Word( BANK, POSITION ) : Will return the 16 Bits value stored at POSITION in the memblock BANK
- Write Memblock ByteBANK, POSITION_IN_BYTES, 32BITSVALE : Write a 8 Bits value at POSITION_IN_BYTES of the memblock BANK
- = Memblock Byte( BANK, POSITION ) : Will return the 8 Bits value stored at POSITION in the memblock BANK
- Reserve F Icon BANK, SIZE : Create a custom icons bank, not blitter, CPU drawing one for fasts CPU and FastRam. Icon size is Width/Heigth same
Set Current F Icon Bank BANK : Allow to have multiple Fast Icons banks
- = Get Current F Icon Bank() : Will return the current bank used for Fast Icons
- Get F Icon ICON, X, Y : Grab an icon ICON from the current screen
- Paste Icon ICON, X, Y(, TRANSPARENCY ) : Will draw an icon at X,Y coordinates. X is multiple of 16 pixels.
- = Get Fie Size( FileName$ )
- Create Playfield from sprite HEIGHT, YSTART : Create a background playfield using sprites
- Remove Sprite Playfield : Remove the background playfield
There are some known issues and limitations. One known issue for example is that compiler must be improved to allow compilation of source code containing Sprites/Icons banks in it. Currently, banks must not be included in .AMOS when compiling.
Amos Professional Unity is provided with some examples that show the uses of AGA Chipset and the Special FX commands sets. This simply mean you can already create AGA video games using Amos Professional Unity and compiles them as executables." (dr)

Video: Emulator E-UAE for AmigaOS4
UAE (abbreviation for Unix Amiga Emulator or Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator) is a software emulator that can be used to run Amiga programs on various operating systems. For Windows, a special variant called WinUAE was developed on the basis of UAE. Based on WinUAE, E-UAE was developed to make its special functions usable on other operating systems. The version ported and available on AmigaOS 4 dates from 2015 (amiga-news.de reported).
Roman 'kas1e' Kargin has created an extensive video about E-UAE under AmigaOS 4, in which he describes the basics and the development. He also explains how the changes made to the source code since 2015 affect it by compiling a current version and showing this using the example of the emulation of AmigaOS 3.2.2.1. (dr)

Floppy disk images: Disc Image Manager V1.46.4 for Linux, macOS and Windows
Gerald J Holdsworth's Disc Image Manager is an application used to load a retro disc image, read the catalogue and output any required files. In addition, it will also add files to the image, delete, and rename files and directories. On the Amiga side, reading and writing of AmigaDOS disks and hard disks with OFS and FFS formatting are supported (not fully tested with FFS). Support for directory cache and international characters is still missing (amiga-news.de reported). Changes in version 1.46.4:
New or improved features
- Font size on the BBC Basic Viewer can be changed.
- Added the ability to use the mouse scroll wheel on a hex dump.
- Can now read Acorn ROM FS images.
- When reading UEF images, each CFS header is checked to be valid before reading.
- Can now create blank Acorn ROM FS images.
- Can now add files to Acorn ROM FS images.
- Can now delete files from Acorn ROM FS images.
- Some minor code changes (creation of new images).
- Command line parsing has been completely removed and replaced by a command line console.
- Attributes are now validated before applying.
- CSV output now includes the option for MD5, per file.
- Button added to allow loading of multiple images and outputting a CSV of each file.
Bug fixes
- OS dark mode: most of the controls do not react to the change from light mode to dark mode. The changing of the font colour sometimes made them hard to see with the tiling selected.
- The Hex Dump dialogue was not scaling correctly with Hi-DPI setups.
- Not all BASIC files are terminated with 0xFF. This fooled the BASIC detector in the Hex Dump viewer.
- If the creation of a new image fails, the application still thought that there was an image open.
- When renaming a file, or editing the load or execution addresses, pressing the BackSpace key would attempt to delete the file, instead of deleting the text.
- It was possible to remove the 'D' attribute of a directory, or add one to a file.
- If the last line in a hex dump text output was less than 16 bytes, then the position of the ASCII representation would not line up with the columns above.
- MS-DOS 6.22 failed to properly read a floppy image created by the application. Changed a few settings in the header when formatting a new image.
- Fixed some quote placement errors in the CSV output.
The author also provides a detailed PDF manual. (dr)

AmigaOS 4.1: "Blues Brothers" games and "Prehistorik 2" ported
Titus Software Titus Software was a French software publisher and developer that also released numerous games for the Amiga. Among them were The Blues Brothers and
Prehistorik. On GitHub, the developer 'cyxx' had published a new version of the engine on which the games "The Blues Brothers", "Blues Brothers: Jukebox Adventure" and "Prehistorik 2" are based and which now offers, among other things, configurable screen size and unlimited lives.
George 'walkero' Sokianos has now ported this engine for AmigaOS 4.1 and published it both on his GitHub page and under the title link in the OS4Depot. The accompanying readme explains exactly how the additionally required data of the original games (demo or full version) have to be installed. (dr)

Introduction: Mediathek V0.1 for all Amiga systems
For some time now Jörg Renkert (among others AmiBrixx or ModExplorer) has been working on an implementation of the programme MediathekView - a program searching the online media libraries of the German public television broadcasters - for the Amiga systems, based on Hollywood, and has now released a first version 0.1 (from left to right the versions for AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS):
The programme ran very smoothly and flawlessly on our two test systems (Amiga 1200 with PiStorm-lite and AmigaOne X5000). After a search query, the results are displayed in the right half of the window. If you select an entry there, you get information about the file sizes for high, medium and low quality in the lower area and even lower information about the program itself. If you don't want to set everything up again for the same search each time you start it - keyword, channel, storage location, etc. - you can do this under a profile. - then you can save this under a profile. The only difference between the AmigaOS 3 and the other two versions: under AmigaOS 3 you have no possibility of sorting the result list, for example according to the length of the contributions.
When choosing the film quality, the high quality is ruled out for the test systems, as it cannot be played smoothly. Under AmigaOS 3, neither FroggerNG nor
RiVA could be persuaded to play the present mp4 format (low quality), but this may also be due to the inexperience of the operator. Under AmigaOS 4, the X5000 manages to play the low quality without problems using Emotion Mediaplayer and DVPlayer. The latter also masters the medium quality, whereas with Emotion Mediaplayer V1.9 sound and picture no longer run synchronously.
Mplayer under MorphOS, on the other hand - here, however, in version 1.1 - manages both quality levels without visible problems.
In addition to the download (D), you can copy the link to the clipboard (C) or transfer it to a previously selected video player (E). However, the latter did not work on any system. In principle, it would be advantageous if not only the pure title were saved, but also the correct mp4 file extension.
Mediathek by Jörg Renkert is without doubt one of the best (Hollywood) Amiga applications of recent times, for which one likes to boot up the Amiga computer again more often. Even in the early version 0.1 the programme makes a very mature impression and one can only guess how much time was invested in the project. Hats off! (dr)

RTG driver: P96 V3.4.0 released
Jens Schönfeld (individual Computers) has released version 3.4.0 of his RTG driver P96, which can be bought or downloaded from the order history at iComp. He wrote: "Highlights of this new release are emulation of EHB mode (64-colour mode of the Amiga chipset) and support of the RainbowII card, which is identical to the BSC Framemaster. Further, the Commodore A2410 board is supported - this card is also known as the "Tiga card". This driver is still in an early development phase, and it does not yet use DMA. Further, P96Prefs (amiga-news.de reported) and P96ScreenCX are now part of the package - the latter for multi-monitor operation with a native Amiga screen alongside the GFX card's output." Detailed changelog:
- Added emulation for Extra Half Bright mode. It is enabled along with planar emulation.
- Planar emulation is now disabled if the board does not support a chunky mode required for planar emulation. This should be really rare, though.
- Allocation of bitmaps failed in case the bitmap flags still contained the magic DPaint flag that CPU blitting is necessary.
- now prevents a crash in case a driver forgot to set the pixel clock of a mode to a non-zero value.
- The CVisionPPC card driver accepts now the MEMORYCLOCK tooltype which specifies the memory clock in MHz.
- The graphics.library functions ClearEOL() and ClearScreen() have been broken in all versions of Amiga OS, including AmigaOs 3.2.2. Luckely, they are rarely used (and should probably be avoided altogether). P96 now includes a re-implementation of the functions that should be safe.
- If GRANTDIRECTACCESS is set, P96 now disables the planar mode as it requires switching the Chain4 mode and thus modifies content under the feed of a potential user of the direct access. In such cases, the planar emulation can be used.
- The installer forgot to install the Cirrus5446 driver for the PicassoIV board.
- The S3Virge driver installed a maximum horizontal resolution of 1280 for everything beyond highcolor. This limit was increased to 1440 pixels.
- P96Prefs will no longer accept to create modes that the P96 core would refuse to create if they are beyond the bounds registered by the driver.
- P96 disables screen dragging on autoscroll screens because VGA chipsets cannot pan the dragged screen below the screen split positions. The current logic for determine autoscroll screens compared the bitmap width with the width of the video mode. This is not quite correct as bitmaps on some cards may be required to be wider than the mode width. On cards using VRAM, the line size must be a multiple of the VRAM shift register size.
- The CVision3D driver now also supports horizontal resolutions wider than 1280 pixels for high-color modes.
- P96 now supports even more graphics boards. This time, the RainbowII frame buffer and the CBM A2410 was added to the list of supported boards.
- The RainbowII is not very exiting as it only supports 32bit TrueColor in either PAL or NTSC, interlace or progressive, thus modes cannot be freely defined.
- RainbowII was also marketed as FrameMaster by BSC and Elaborate Bytes, the driver supports all three boards.
- The A2410 was CBM's only graphics board, originally designed by the University of Lowell. It is based on the TI TMS34010 chipset. The chip is an oddity as it does not provide direct access to its video RAM. Thus, its driver needs to play some tricks with the MMU and requires the mmu.library. The TMS34010 chip includes blitter functionalities the driver uses when possible, though still needs to render by the CPU itself into a "mirror framebuffer". Thus, everything will be pretty slow. Again, note that you *need* the mmu.library for the A2410.
- The physical dimensions of the monitor in millimeters can now be put into the monitor icon tooltypes as MONITORWIDTH and MONITORHEIGHT. This allows P96 to compute the resolution of all modes on the monitor. Note that the tooltypes are in millimeters, not in pixels.
- The P96 distribution includes now additonal contributions: The P96Prefs program is the new style preferences editor. It replaces the Picasso96Mode if the target operating system is Os 3.2 or better.
- P96Mode did not compute the monitor limit frequency correctly, fixed.
- P96Mode did not check whether the board type as indicated in the board is correct.
- In case more than one board was installed, P96Prefs could have shown a dummy resolution of 320x200 pixels that is only for internal use.
- P96Prefs disabled modes if the requested clock frequency differed too much from the actual clock frequency. This is no longer the case.
- Additonal contributions are the Native monitor driver and the P96ScreenCX commodity.
- Updated the installer script to also install contributions and localizations.
- Again, I want to thank Samir and Javier for updating the Italian and Spanish catalogs of P96Prefs, and most of all Thomas Richter for his continued work on P96.

Action RPG: "King Arthur: Rise of the Round Table"
LateBit' have also submitted their entry to AmiGameJam 2022 just in time: "King Arthur: Rise of the Round Table" is inspired by "Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight" and requires an AGA-Amiga and currently still an 030 processor (YouTube video). The game is not yet optimised, graphics are missing, and some bugs are still included. (dr)

Rogue-like game: Demo version of Roguecraft
In October 2022, Budger Punch announced an Amiga version of their C64 game Rogue64 with improved graphics and adapted features (amiga-news.de reported). A demo version for the AmiGameJam 2022 has now been published before the "closing date".
The developers point out that the demo version still contains some errors, especially graphical ones, and is not yet complete. It is therefore limited to four levels. An Amiga1200 or higher is recommended for a smooth game experience, the actual gameplay should run on an Amiga 500 with 1Mb RAM. Feedback is explicitly welcome. (dr)
