MUI clone: Zune for AFA OS 68k 0.97 beta 1
Bernd Roesch has released an update of his AmigaOS 3-port of the MUI clone Zune. Screenshots of YAM and Simple Mail running on Zune are available at the author's website. Zune requires AFA OS (AROS for Amiga OS), changes since the previous version:
  • At the startup of a Zune programme it will check if the stack is large enough (min. 30000 bytes). This way, crashes due to insufficient stack size can be avoided.
  • Every Zune programme may now access the prefs programme through the MUI menu, so locale preferences (screenmode, skin, etc.) are possible.
  • Zune_prefs was renamed Zune, because it is called that in AROS, too.
  • Lamp.mcc is now being modified by the Zune-Installer for Zune.
  • newstring.mcc from Aminet is now part of the Zune archive.
  • Bugfix: dtpic class (Homebank will start up now)
  • In YAM/SimpleMail now active String Gadgets at "window open" will be shown active correctly
  • Mui Keys (cursor keys etc.) work now
  • Nlist class now supports popup menues
  • NListviews work with > 2000 entries (AROS-Fix by Georg Steger)
  • Text display on buttons is now correct in JAM1
  • Borders of Nlist classes now will be drawn

For the final implementation of all MUI features only three more things are missing now:
  • Menu entries will always be displayed as available
  • The window coordinates will be remembered at the next opening of the window, but they will not be saved yet.
  • Keynotify does not work yet. Programmes likeYAM or SimpleMail use to, for example,. delete an email with the delete key.

The latest sources of Roesch's port are part of the AFA OS archive. (cg) (Translation: iw)

AmigaOne again available in smaller quantities
The French salesman Amont Informatique announces that he had received a "smaller" delivery of AmigaOne motherboards which are to be distributed to salesmen all over the world within a short time.

The delivery obviously contains an unknown amount of AmigaOne-XE motherboards and MicroA1 motherboards which are described as "reconditioned" (remark of the editorial office: reconditioned could mean "as good as new, but used" but also "renewed"). The boards are being tested at the moment, in addition a new delivery of CPU modules is expected.

Apparently G4-CPUs with 1.1 Ghz are to be applied on the above mentioned CPU modules. The producer of the modules is not known, however they are to be distributed separately as well as upgrade option for AmigaOne owners wit G3-CPU. (cg) (Translation: iw)

MorphOS: SearchStar 0.71g
SearchStar 0.71g by Tom 'Amigaharry' Duin is now also able to search inside files. The CLI program is quite fast due to being written in PowerPC machine code. In addition, there is an option for listing or copying of files by a given directory or device. Last but not least, some smaller bugs were removed and the program optimized further. (snx)

MorphOS: Profiler PrfLib 0.11, ResLib 0.3
Marcin 'Morgoth' Kurek has released updates to two of his libraries:

PrfLib 0.11

PrfLib is a library that provides statistical details of a running program, to determine which part takes up how much processor time.

But since a GCC "trick" is being exploited for this purpose, the profiler library only works with programs that were compiled with it (tested with version 2.95.3 and 2.95.4).

Besides the elimination of some errors, new in version 0.11 are:
  • Correct function names demangling for C++ programs (for both gcc 2.9x and 3.x/4.x)
  • Support for function names longer than 32 characters
  • Call graph support. Now libprofile can produce a nice call graph for each function call in program.

ResLib 0.3

ResLib is a library which allows the programmer to detect memory leaks, mismatched free operations (wrong size or type) and memory trashing (underflows or overflows). In version 0.3, "non empty pools" are only reported when RESF_WARNDIRTYPOOL is set. (cg) (Translation: cad)

AfA: AROS for AmigaOS 3.93.2
"AROS for AmigaOS" (AfA) enhances the latter with functins of the aformentioned operating system. there's a small update available following the title link.

With AfA 3.93.2 the picture.datatype doesn't crash anymore if you choose "SaveIFF" in IconEdit. Saving via this function is not possible yet as the picture.datatype of AROS doesn't support this for now.

If you could make some example code for the saving of IFF files available then please contact Bernd Roesch, the author.

Also new is the use of the rasrport text attribute Italic with TrueType texts. The minimum stack size was increased from 4,500 bytes to 6,000 bytes, to save memory the creation of a second afa_system.library was stopped. (snx) (Translation: wk)

Amiga Immortal 3 - Music from the Amiga legends
After over three-and-a-half years of development time, the long-expected third part of the Music CD series "Amiga Immortal" is finally available since the middle of June. Over 150 minutes of elaborately arranged music from various games for the Commodore Amiga are to be found on two CD's full to the brim.

All pieces were rerecorded exclusively for this album, most of them precisely by the interpreters who once composed them: Jochen Hippel, Allister Brimble, Bjorn Lynne, and of course Chris Hülsbeck, too, among others, contributed tracks - the latter is represented on the album with 2 brand-new arrangements from the legendary "Turrican" series as well as an orchestra recording of the theme music of "Apidya." Jan Zottmann underwrote responsibility for the production, as in "Immortal 2," who was actively supported by Thomas Böcker from Merregnon Studios.

C-Compiler: vbcc 0.8j Patch 1
There is a patch for the C-compiler vbcc written by von Volker Barthelmann (compiler-kernel) and Frank Wille (Amiga specific adapations):
  • Due to an unnoticed problem by replacing PhxAss with vasmm68k in the build-process the _LVO symbols were no longer assembled and were missing in amiga.lib

The compiler supports AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS, PowerUp and WarpOS and corresponds ISO-C which means ISO/IEC 9899:1989 as well as part of the newer standards ISO/IEC 9899:1999 (C99). (cg) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: SimCoupe 1.01
The porting of the SDL based emulator SimCoupe by Ventzilav 'drHirudo' Tzvetkov has been available since today in version 1.01. Among other innovations joysticks are being supported now.

SimCoupe emulates the "SAM Coupé" - a Z80 based 8 bit home computer, which was built in 1989 by Miles Gordon Technology. Although this computer had, compared with other 8 bit computers of that time, relatively advanced features, it was never very successful, as the 16 bit computers (Amiga, Atari, Macintosh and PC) had already been standard. Nevertheless some software titles for this computer were published, which demonstrate the advantages of its sound and graphic abilities.

The innovations in detail:
  • Joystick support (via AmigaInput)
  • Better Pro-Dos boot handling
  • New indicators to show the extra LMPR bits: ROM0, ROM1 and WPROT in the Debug Window
  • Enhanced HDF file handling to accept v1.1 images with a large identity structure
  • Improved ATA hard disk emulation
  • Misc sourcecode improvements and bugfixes
  • Removed unnecessary for the AmigaOS compile files from the archive, thus smaller overall size

AmiTown: Website all around Amiga Forever and WinUAE
Under the title link, Ulli Reinders has set up a website all around Amiga Forever and consequently WinUAE under the name of "Amitown."

There, he shortly introduces the emulator package Amiga Forever as such, shows screenshots of his installed AmigaOS versions 1.3, 2.1, 3.1, 3.5 and 3.9, gives away which applications are executable under AmigaOS 3.1 and higher, offers background pictures as well as some programs for download and publishes tips and tricks to refer to.

The web presence Amitown was designed in such a way that it can be displayed virtually error-free with a web browser like AWeb II as well. Purpose of this presence is to point out the possibilities of the Amiga emulator WinUAE in matters of layout and execution, and also to submit suggestions where appropriate. (snx) (Translation: cad)

individual Computers: new porducts, RoHS conformity secured, holiday
The hardware specialist individual Computers from Aachen/ Germany announced two new products for the classic Amiga, the Catweasel MK2 "anniversary edition" and an Amiga 600 turbocard, and the securing of the RoHS conformity.

Catweasel MK2 "anniversary edition"

This year celebrates the Catweasel, the universal floppy controller, its 10th anniversary. Right now, only the version for the PCI slot of modern computers as well as the ISA version of the controller is available in the shops. individual Computers has had inquries in the last months asking for Catweasel models that can be used in classic Amiga computers. This is now possible with the Catweasel MK2 "anniversary edition": individual reworked and re issued the successor from 1997: The Catweasel MK2 works connected to the clock port of the Amiga 1200, connected to the IDE port of the Amiga 4000 and connected to the clock port of their Zorro boards. So the complete range of classic amiga coputers is covered as the new controller works connected to the clock port of the new A600 memory card (being delivered from next week on), too.

Production of the Amiga 600 turbocard finished

After two years of development is the turbocard for the Amiga 600 now finished. It offers a 68030-33 processor clocked with 40 MHz, a 128MByte RAM option (speed adjustable), a 512k flash memory and PCMCIA compatibility and is designed with small heat production in mind.

RoHS conformity secured

Today became the RoHS guideline of the European union europäischen Union effective. The abbreviation stands for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances". It restricts the use of dangerous materials in the electronic production. Individual productions has taken precautions to secure the RoHS conformity within its production line.

Holiday

The company will be on holiday from July, 5th to July, 26th. (nba) (Translation: wk)

Editor's Thoughts and Introduction:
You can certainly see from this month's stories that the Amiga
community is moving into "Summer mode". We have stories of shows and
get-togethers and games collections all arriving to help make the
summer more enjoyable.
Unfortunately, one interesting item arrived this month which would
have been better covered in last month's issue. That is the extension
of Amiga Voices by a month. The probable ending date for the extension
is today. The e-mail indicates the project may continue beyond today,
but no promises. Here's the note we received:

"Dear Brad,

On behalf of the Amiga Forever team I wanted to let you know that we
extended the Amiga Voices (http://www.amigaforever.com/voices/)
initiative by an extra month. As you are a long-time Amiga supporter,
we believe that this could be of interest both to you and to your
readers.

Cloanto's Amiga Voices project aims to preserve and make accessible
bits and bytes of Amiga oral history in the form of personal messages,
with a maximum duration of three minutes per fragment. Amiga Voices
gives Amiga friends worldwide a unique opportunity to record their
stories and other Amiga-related messages. To make the initiative as
accessible as possible, dedicated local telephone numbers have been
set up in different countries.

In consideration of demand, Amiga Voices will remain active at least
until June 30, 2006.

Regards,
Michael"

This is really great idea. We hope it will remain in operation for at
least a few days after this issue gets to folks so readers who'd been
unaware of this can participate if interested. I might give this a try
myself.
We hope you enjoy this issue.

 Brad Webb,
 Editor

AmiRevival, the Amiga event to watch this July, will soon be upon us
so now is the time to book tickets and exhibitor tables. The event
promises to be a success with the likes of Mindspace (UML diagram
software for OS4 and soon OS3.x) and other exhibitors attending,
providing a large amount of interest.

In order to make this event the success it deserves to be we need your
feedback and support. We are looking to provide something for everyone
from the new user to the old, classic to next generation. To help us
in this goal we would gladly welcome exhibitors from the Pegasos /
MorphOS side as well as those from AROS and the Amiga communities.
The Amiga community has always been one of friendly support and a
cheerful and we want to rekindle that spirit.

We are also looking for more exhibitors to attend the event, helping
in its success. If you feel you could exhibit, be that as a trader,
usergroup or an individual we would like to hear from you. See the
official Amirevival website for more exhibitor information. We will
welcome all exhibitors so long as what your exhibit is related to the
Amiga or Amiga-like systems (including Amiga emulation, AROS and
MorphOS).

If you have a new product that you want to release in style,
AmiRevival would be a good place to do this. With eyes on this event
and all the after event reports this could be a great marketing
opportunity. Yoodoo2, one of the authors of Mindspace, plans to attend
and will be launching version 1 of his very useful product on the day
of the show – why not join him?

Various user groups from around the UK will also be exhibiting the
likes of SEAL, the authors of Total Amiga, will be attending the show
with other usergroups including AmiSEK; the only user group in the
South East of England.

PegXMac, the software allowing you to run MacOS on your AmigaOne, will
also be available on the AmiSEK stand to try and we are hoping to have
the latest version available to demonstrate at the event – its first
public demonstration.

To book tickets, exhibitor space or just to find out more information
visit the official AmiRevival website, http://www.amirevival.com/

Due to time and resource constrainsts the CPU demo has been cancelled

difficulties getting the CPU module to work with both the existing
AmigaOne boards and the new TSi109 based design and I need time to

About CygnusEd Professional Release 5

The perhaps most famous Amiga text editor for programmers was
developed 20 years ago (1986/1987) Bruce Dawson, Colin Fox & Steve
LaRocque (CygnusSoft Software) and was originally self-published. Even
back then CygnusEd distinguished itself through its high performance
and robustness. Development on CygnusEd would proceed at a steady pace
in the years to follow. CygnusEd was one of the first programs to
feature an ARexx interface and the first Amiga text editor with an
Undo/Redo feature. Many Amiga programmers "grew up" with CygnusEd and
a considerable part of the Amiga software library was created with
CygnusEd.

The last version published was CygnusEd Professional 4. It became a
vailable in 1997 and was a completely revised version of the editor
and its auxiliary tools, adapted for AmigaOS 3.1.

The current CygnusEd version 5 was enhanced with new features, and
robustness and performance were improved again. The "Ed" auxiliary
tool was rewritten from scratch and its complete source code is
included with the editor. Many limitations and deficiencies of
CygnusEd were removed. Version 5 is also the first CygnusEd release
ported entirely, including all auxiliary tools, to the PowerPC and one
of the first commercial software packages specially adapted for
AmigaOS 4.

Upgrades from older versions are available at a reduced price. In
order to obtain an upgrade you will need to mail your old CygnusEd
floppy disk or CD-ROM to APC&TCP. http://www.apc-tcp.de

The support home page for CygnusEd 5 also went online today:
http://www.apc-tcp.de/support/0030e.html

The associated support form for CygnusEd can be reached under
http://www.amigafuture.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=25 .

Dealers who want to sell CygnusEd should contact APC&TCP directly by
e-mail.

Hollywood 2.0 Update available

A small update for Hollywood 2.0 is available now. This update fixes
two bugs in the AmigaOS4 version of Hollywood. As all Hollywood
versions are able to save native AmigaOS4 executables, users of
Hollywood versions for other platforms (e.g. MorphOS or AmigaOS3)
should install this update, too. The update can be downloaded from the
Hollywood product information page.

Wehrheim, Germany, June 19th, 2006.

We are glad to inform you, that we are finished the WB Super Games and
the Payback Fan CD. The two products are available in our OnlineShop.

WB Super Games - The Workbench games collection for your AmigaOS 4

WB Super Games is a Workbench game collection for AmigaOS 4 which
includes 7 different games. LogiLog, Alinearis and Cerebrum guarantee
fun for all fans of brain gym. But also action fans will find them
enjoyable. They can train themselves with the network games AXO,
Memoria, Serpentis and Stoertebeker for one or two players.

There is always the option to run other programs while playing,
because WB Super Games are executed on the Workbench. So you can
control a chat-program for example. Moreover, all games are developed
to use minimal resources, so that there is still enough system
performance for other applications running at the same time. The
collection was developed especially for AmigaOS 4 PPC-native. It does
not need any additional libraries or SDL.

The WB Super Games is delivered on CD and costs just 9,95 Euro.

Payback Fan CD - The AddOn CD for Payback

Payback is one of the most popular amiga games of the last years and
can still fascinate a loyal fan community. Because of that we have
created a CD for Payback fans.
The Payback Fan CD is an AddOn CD for the Amiga game Payback. On the
CD you can find 12 background pictures and 16 Patterns for the
Workbench as well as skins for AmigaAmp. The highlight of the CD are
the 22 still unpublished Maps, which guarantee you many hours of fun.
If you like to create your own levels, you can find many textures of
all types on the CD. Additionally you can find a exclusive interview
of James Daniel, all "Amiga Speed" tests, the Amig@lien Payback
Website and many reports about Payback. As a Payback Fan you
absolutely need this CD.

The Payback Fan CD is delivered on CD and costs just 5,95 Euro.

A big thanks goes to the author of Payback James Daniels for his
support.

The Mailtext MUI custom class package (for Amigas) is especially
designed to display electronic messages. Its main features cover:
Handling of font attributes, highlighting of quoted textpasses and
highlighting and handling of URLs.

An OS4/PPC version of the MCC_Mailtext MUI library is now available
at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mailtext

The MCC_Mailtext sourcecode has been updated to compile with GCC and
ported to OS4. The version 3.2 user archive contains OS4 binaries and
GCC compiled 68020 binaries. The purpose of this update is to provide
a native OS4/PPC version of MCC_Mailtext and there are no changes in
the operation of MCC_Mailtext. Amiga 68k users can continue to use
version 3.1 of MCC_Mailtext and do not need to update to version 3.2.

Currently, there are no plans for further developement of
MCC_Mailtext, but any bugs or problems that may occur with future
versions of OS4, MUI or MUI libraries will be addressed by the
MCC_Mailtext development team. MCC_Mailtext is used by Jabberwocky and
several other Amiga MUI programs.

3 June,2006

After some time of work away, I've uploaded to OS4Depot the new
version 0.6 of OS4 TiMidity.

You can download it at www.os4depot.net

OS4 TiMidity ver.0.6

What's different to the previous version:
from the History:
- playmodus from shell-start added (-oahiplay, breakable with Ctrl-C)
- verbosity in shell options (-i?) reactivated
- Files-tab removed - filechoosing added to the front (now "Main") -
  tab
- About now inside the tab, no extra window is opened
- taskpriorities altered - this increases the stability
- to reduce the influence of other tasks during playing/converting the
main window is iconified during playing conversion
- Verbosity added in Other-tab (to control the amount of information
output, also to suppress any output)
- progress-bar and play-time removed from mainwindow, and added in the
small control-window
- increased stability by adding separate tasks for time and progress
display
- bug removed: After a call from shell without arguments, not all
  Signals were freed.
- Information-side in the main-window removed again, because of
stability - reason. The output is done (if the Verbosity settings are
higher) in a workbench-window again.

In a special dir "AWeb" a HOWTO_play_MIDI in AWeb is included.
Hubert Maier shows a way to use TiMidity as a pseudoplugin for MIDIs
in AWeb. No control is possible, but it works.

The overall stability is now better since in the earlier versions.
In the shell-mode without any information-output (-iqqq option),
it is near chrash-safe ... but not 100% ... nothing is perfect .

Hopeful you enjoy the new version.
And nevertheless, like in the previous versions, please send me a
mail, if you find a bug.

Kindly
Alfred
