NetBSD: Mediator driver in development
The NetBSD port for Amiga computers has now a first support of the PCI-busboard of the model Mediator 1200.
Network boards based on NE2000 (e.g. Realtek 8029, pictureo) already can be used. Usage of the PCI mem-space and therefore graphics cards are in development. NetBSD is adapted to the hardware with reverse engineering. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Tips for Scandoubler Indivision MK2
André "Ratte" Pfeiffer has two tips for users of an "Indivision MK2" Scandoubler developed by Individual Computers:
Solution for vertical stripes in VGA-mode
Sometimes the new IndivisionMK2 creates vertical stripes in analog VGA-mode. This problem can be fixed with an analog VGA-cable (without DVI-I port + adapter) (more information).
The producer has warned of this solution because there is a danger that the used digital-analog converter may be destroyed. In any case, of the the described solution is used it will void the warranty.
Indivision MK2 as WB-accelerator
Just like the InivisionAGA the MK2 supports the modes HighGFX and HD720.
Furthermore the MK2 for the first time can display the Xtreme Mode (1280x1024). For desktop computers without graphic board the most interesting mode might be the SuperPlus Mode. The solution is equal to the Super72 Mode (800x600) but twice as fast!
For the Internet with "AGA only" it might be a good compromise concerning solution, colours and speed (more information).

Dutch team announced new PPC-board for Amiga 3000/4000
Gideon Zweijtzer (among others involved in 1541 Ultimate) and Rutger Bevaart are working on a PPC-extension for Amiga 3000/4000 computers called "UltimatePPC" which also will provide USB-, SATA- and Ethernet ports as well as an integrated 2D graphic chip with DVI-port. In a duscussion on amiga.org Gideon "mousehouse" Zweijtzer has answered questions of users:
The board will have the same size as an A3640 and be equipped with a 68040 and a Freescale QorIQ P1013. Both processors will be equipped with Bus and RAM. In substance they are two completely independent systems.
The trick: The USB-, SATA- and Ethernet-controllers which are used in the P1013, which is a System on a Chip (SoC), canbe also accessed from outside and does not depend on what the processor is calculating.
Furthermore suitable operating systems will run on the Power-CPU - maybe contemporaneously with AmigaOS 3.
The detailed specifications:
- 68040 CPU with 33 MHz and 128 MB RAM (DDR3)
- QorIQ P1013 CPU with 1.0 GHz and 2GB RAM (DDR3, SO-DIMM)
- USB2-controller with integrated fourfold-Hub
- SATA2-controller with two SATA-ports
- Ethernet-controller (10/100/1000)
- Integrated 2D video chip with DVI-port
An unfinished prototype of UltimatePPC is to be seen on the website. The developers suppose that already at the end of the year the first orders can be accepted.
It seems to be still not clear which software will be supported: According to the FAQ a SANA2-compatible Ethernet driver is developed. For other software sections like USB or graphic support the developers only confirmed that this is "also very important".
Which PPC operating systems will run on the board also is still not clear. Harry "Piru" Sintonen has rejected to port MorphOS for it. Concerning AmigaOS 4 the original website, which meanwhile was reworked, stated that the developers will try to contact Haage&Partner...

FPGA-Arcade-Boards with Amiga-emulation available
According to Laurent 'Faranheit' Zorawski at amigaworld the FPGA-Arcade-boards with Amiga emulation can be ordered from him. The next charge of boards he expects to come in four or five weeks provided by FPGA-Arcade developer Mike Johnson. A reservation is recommended. Pictures and videos can be found under the title link.
The board consists of a 68k-processor (68000, 68010, 68020, 68EC020) as well as of the Amiga-chipsets OCS-A500, OCS-A1000, ECS and AGA. It uses 2 MB Chip-RAM and 9,5 MB Fast-RAM (57 MB Fast-RAM are announced) and can use two HDF-files and emulates four disk drives. Kickstart files from version 1.3 to 3.1 are accepted as well as different Workbench versions inclusive a 3.9-light-version. For the extension port before the end of the year a combined 68060, network and USB board with micro-SD-slot will be available (picture).
The FPGA-Arcade-Board differs from the original Minimig:
- Further processors beyond the 68000 are emulated, the 68020EC with up to 99 MHz
- More RAM as the 2-4 MB of the Minimig (up to 60 MB after finishing the currently tested firmware)
- Can be used in ATX, Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX case
- AGA-Chipsatz-Emulation
- Extension port
- S-Video output (will be accessable with the announced firmware update)

Natami project: Reorganization
According to Claudio Wieland, who is an official member of the Natami team, "due to unreasonably high expectations on the team side regarding time frames and foremost forgetting about Thomas' original intentions for what Natami is supposed to be, Thomas has decided to seclude himself as of now and to peacefully finish what he has begun, without having to follow unrealistic time frames and expectations."
Besides, the project probably will be developed with a slower speed because another member of the team, André Jernung, has confirmed that Thomas Hirsch meanwhile has found a new job so he will not be able to work on his Amiga clone with highspeed memory in full time.

Anniversary: Computer club APC&TCP turns 20
Press release: Once there were two computer clubs. APC and TCP. 20 years ago (if anyone knows the exact date, please report), these two computer clubs joined.
Within a very short period of time, APC&TCP computer club became one of the biggest Amiga clubs in Germany with nearly 500 members.
APC&TCP afterwards published one of the most widespread Amiga floppy disk magazines: Amiga Fire and its successor NoCover.
Since many members were programmers, it was decided to distribute their software ourselves. Therefore in May 1992 APC&TCP became private partnership. The aim was to distribute public domain, shareware and commercial software in a way of maximum benefit for the developers. Thus PD disks were passed on at cost price of 1 DM. The profit-sharing of 50% for the programmer was unusually high.
Programs like CygnusEd, DigiBoosterPro and Databench as well as games like Flyin High and Pinball Brain Damage are only a few examples of our software.
Besides our own shareware series and many commercial software titles, we were also working for various companies. We took care of the distribution of promoting games and created cover CDs for magazines such as Amiga Plus, Amiga Games and Amiga Special. For some time we also created the PD series disks of Amiga Magazine, wrote reviews for various magazines and organized ticket sales for Amiga shows and much more.
In 1997 we decided to publish a print-magazine for the Amiga. The Amiga Future was first published by ICP-Verlag, then by Falke-Verlag and since issue 27 APC&TCP also acted as the publisher.
Now we have released issue 96 and issue 100 is getting close. Meanwhile APC&TCP also sells various Amiga merchandising products, such as stickers, mouse pads, posters and much more. Thus now, after 20 years, APC&TCP still exists. To celebrate this, we have some special offers in our online shop. These offers are only available in May 2012.
To the next 20 years!
Andreas Magerl

Retro computer case: X500 Plus
Loriano 'TheDaddy' Pagni, who some years ago offered self-developed Minimig cases, now presented an all-in-one-case called "X500 Plus" which is inspired by Amiga 500 (Youtube-video).
Pagni's case originally was developed for his Sam 460 but can be used with each Mini-ITX or Flex-ATX motherboard which is up to 58 millimeters high. Due to the use of an internal power supply unit ("PicoPSU"), the power of the included hardware should be lower than 160 W.
In the case additional to the motherboard and the power supply unit, two or three 2,5"-harddrives or Solid State Drives, a 3,5" multi card reader as well as a Slimline DVD drive can be used.
Pagni at least needs 50 advance bookings to be able to produce the cases. He points out that for the assembling a certain accurateness and experience is required to to guarantee sufficient ventilation.
If you are interested in the case you can write to the developer under amigarulez@hotmail.com. Currently minor change requests can be taken into account.
Soon some pictures will be added to Pagni's private website.

FS-UAE 1.2.0
Frode Solheim's FS-UAE for Windows, Mac OS X 10.6+ and Linux (i386, AMD64) is based on WinUAE and aims at playing disk and CD-ROM based Amiga games on the PC. The user-interface can be operated by controlpads entirely (screenshot). Therefore this version of UAE is especially useful for HTPCs.
In der Version 1.2 (Release Notes) wurden insbesondere folgende Neuerungen vorgenommen:
- Great rendering performance improvements, especially on slower hardware
- OpenGL renderer compatible with older GPUs (only requires OpenGL 1.1 now)
- Input devices and options can be changed in the menu while running FS-UAE
- UAEGFX card (Picasso 96) is implemented
- Added A4000/040 model, running in fastest possible mode
- Support for mounting CD images for all Amiga models (built-in CDFS and CD image switcher in menu)
- Fullscreen/window mode switching with Alt+Enter, better fullscreen handling
- Better net play support (show dialog while connecting, will retry connecting until successful, continue in offline mode if connection to server is broken)
- A1200 model can be used in net play mode with accuracy < 1
- UAE core code updated from WinUAE 2.4.0
- Advanced options for tweaking vsync method
- Common host options can be specified once in Host.fs-uae config file
- Many other fixes and improvements
