Announcement: Inviyya 2 for Amiga (AGA) and Neo Geo in development
Originally Michael 'Tigerskunk' Borrmann wanted to port his shoot'em up 'Inviyya', which was released in spring for the Amiga, to the Neo Geo console. However, while creating the graphics for the Japanese console, he found himself creating completely new levels - he then consequently went on to develop a new game straight away.
'Inviyya 2' is still at a very early stage, being developed in parallel on Neo Geo and an Amiga 1200, the latter will probably have to be equipped with some Fast RAM. (cg)

MorphOS: E-Mail-Programm Iris 1.0
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 1.0 of his email program Iris today, ending its beta status. On this occasion the author has published a separate statement:
"After about 5 years of development, the first non-beta release of Iris is now available for download!
Iris is the most advanced and modern mail client among all of the clients available on MorphOS and Amiga. It's the only client to support OAuth2 for GMail, Yahoo and Outlook. It's the only client to support full html viewing and editing of emails, thanks to the inclusion of a stripped down WebKit. Iris is the application that has sparked off countless innovations in other parts of the OS, including adding ObjectiveC support and Unicode support into MUI.
Getting to the 1.0 version would not have been possible without the support of all of the betatesters, translators and users who either donated to the project or sent me bugreports and logs. I would also like to single out Christoph Poelzl of https://rms-communications.ch for all of his contributions and pushing me to add features to meet his business use cases. Iris would not have been what it is now without your input. Thank you!
There's still a long TODO for Iris, so keep looking out for future updates."
Among the new features of version 1.0 is the long awaited keyword search in email body.
For feedback to the author, the corresponding MorphZone-discussion on the topic can be used. (dr)

Amiga Assembly For Beginners: Let's Make an Amiga Game Tutorial
Prince', founder of the former demo group 'Phaze101', streams the assembler programming course "Corso completo di programmazione assembler in due dischi" in English on Twitch and uploads the respective episodes time-shifted to YouTube (amiga-news.de reports regularly).
Among other things stimulated by our inquiry, to what extent the newly acquired knowledge is practically applied by his participants, Prince has now decided to give further assistance and to show the conversion into assembler for the Amiga step by step on the basis of the small C64 game 'Poop's Journey'. The episode 1 has now been uploaded to YouTube. (dr)

Hollywood plugin: hURL 1.2 for several data transfer protocols
Press release: Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are back on your screen with a major update of hURL - the ultimate multi-protocol data transfer plugin for Hollywood, which allows Hollywood scripts to transfer data using all kinds of different network protocols including full SSL support.
Version 1.2 is a major update that now supports Hollywood 9's extended network adapter so that Hollywood's DownloadFile() and UploadFile() functions can now handle all protocols supported by hURL instead of just HTTP. This makes it much easier to use hURL because you often don't have to use hURL's lowlevel interface any longer but can just use DownloadFile() or UploadFile().
hURL supports an incredibly wide range of transfer protocols, e.g. DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, Gopher, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, Telnet and TFTP. As with all Hollywood plugins, hURL comes with extensive documentation in various formats like PDF (over 300 pages!), HTML, AmigaGuide, and CHM that contains detailed descriptions about all functions and methods offered by the plugin.
All of this makes hURL the ultimate data transfer tool for Hollywood that contains everything you need to send and receive data via almost any transfer protocol on the planet.
hURL is now available for free download from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS 3.x (m68k), AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, Linux (PPC, ARM, x86, x64), Mac OS (PPC, x86, x64), Windows (x86, x64), Android (ARM, ARM64), and iOS (ARM, ARM64) are provided.
Note that on AmigaOS and compatibles, AmiSSL 4.x is required by hURL for SSL transfers. Since this isn't available in a native MorphOS version yet, you can just use the 68k version of AmiSSL 4.x on MorphOS. It has been verified to work fine with hURL. (snx)

FPGA: First Playstation1 game for MISTer
In mid-August we reported that Robert 'FPGAzumSpass' Peip had announced a Playstation1 emulation for the MISTer. In mid-October he announced via YouTube video that first games would basically run. Now yesterday via Twitter announced that with RidgeRacer the first PlayStation game is now playable on MiSTer: Some bugs are still present, but encourage testing. Unfortunately, those who do not have a second SDRAM available will have to wait a few more days.
He has documented his efforts in a GitHub project. (dr)

Accelerator board: Last Buffee status update for 2021
In our last new item we reported that the Buffee accelerator boards had to be sent back for revision. Now the developers have published a last bog entry for this year (pictures available under the title link):
"I have many words for the last year, none of which I can really express here. Suffice to say that this “chip shortage” has pushed back retail production run into January – at least at this point – I believe nothing anyone’s saying until I have boards physically in hand. Despite the delays, our beta testing is going along well, but very, very slowly. We’re still waiting for the last of the beta boards to come in before we begin shipping, and I absolutely appreciate everyone’s patience with this. Software is coming along nicely and we have good timing on the bus and can read and write, so that’s progress!
Debugging the bus aside, we’re well along testing PJIT and the C (slow) emulator. But I wanted to take a small step aside and talk about what we’ve been developing ON. Say hello to the DIP-64 version of the MiniMig currently under development!
While I’d love to say that this is just for Buffee, this opens the MiniMig up to running basically any 68000 accelerator, fast RAM or IDE expansion, adding a ton of utility it never had before. Want a 68030? Ok. Maybe an 8MB+IDE board? Sure. How about a Vampire? Hey, sometimes Buffee gets along with Vampires too. Anyway, this is an amazing bit of kit and of course, can still run the SEC000 at 50MHz giving it near Amiga 3000 speeds.
I’m also taking a stab at fixing up some of the old MiniMig Verilog code to add real Amiga mouse support (quadrature decode) as well as proper scanlines that don’t darken the screen along with aspect-correct scaling. Wait, what’s that, you haven’t heard of this? Well, most scanline implementations just black-out or dim alternating lines which dims the screen. Given that LCD’s already have a horrid dynamic range compared to CRTs, it’s not great makign the screen dimmer than it has to. The magic is in using what is basically an overlay filter, combined with some horizontal (but no vertical) smoothing. I think the look is fantastic.
We’re also looking at updating some other aspects like removing the antiquated PS/2 ports and supporting the 50MHz mode with Buffee to have a 50MHz bus to chip RAM. Fun times ahead, we just need to be a little more patient." (dr)

The Amiga video memory: Amigavideo.net
Amigavideo.net collects on its site any videotapes dedicated to the Amiga. Amigavideo wants to make available hours of videos to the Amiga community, "from TV commercials to boring 2-hour long tutorials, without forgetting the institutional films selling the machine as the 'most amazing' computer ever."
The first goal of this website is to gather as many Amiga related videos as possible, preferably in the best available quality. As Thierry further reports, many of the videos can also be found elsewhere. With Amigavideo.net one simply wants to increase the chances for the Amiga fan to find and watch the video he is looking for. Besides, so many websites have disappeared without a trace, Commodore Billboard or Back2roots come to mind.
Thierry was kind enough to tell us the following about the history of the project:
"The website has been officially launched on Oct 2017 (quick panel during AmigaON, an Amiga reunion that took place in Ontario, Canada)
The first idea of this website surfaced around 2015 when my pile of Amiga VHS tapes was getting bigger and bigger. I'm a big Amiga fan/user (since...1990) and also Cinema/AudioVisual enthusiast, the reason of my "attraction" to everything involving Amiga and Video.
The main reason was to "share" those tapes instead of just keeping it in a storage and with a "better" interface than YouTube or etc (where pretty much all the videos already are...but good luck to find anything if you don't know the exact name of the video...
Recently, the whole collection has been upscaled to 720/60p with noise reduction....insanely long process but I'm very happy with the result."
A future step would be to obtain master copies (also on loan) and preserve them (at least digitally) in as future-proof a state as possible. (dr)

Emulation: vAmiga as web port
Christian Corti has obviously specialized in web conversions of emulators and programs with his web presence NEOART Costa Rica: Thus, besides the web conversion of the C64 emulator "VirtualC64" and the music tracker "Future Composer" in the form of a remake, he also offers the web conversion of the Amiga emulator for MacOS vAmiga developed by Dirk Hoffmann. All that is needed is a current browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox. The required ROMs are provided in the form of an 'AROS Replacement Kickstart ROM'. It is also possible to use your own ROMs, but tests in this regard have failed on our part. Corti explicitly points out the beta status of the project, but we wanted to see how applicable this already is and chose as a test object the game Crazy Columns, which the author Jochen Hoffer provides in the form of an adf file.
After calling the title link, we are greeted as follows:
After a "Continue", the settings page awaits us:
We decide for "Install AROS" and thus for the "AROS Kickstart Replacement ROM". In the tab "Hardware" you can load pre-configured preferences. Since 'Crazy Columns' was written for the Amiga 500, we decide to use it. After an "OK" the emulator starts:
Since no action is triggered by pressing the icons, we simply drag the ADF file of the game into the window and the game is loaded. However, the first attempt is still slowed down by the message 'too little memory'. We increase the Fast RAM from the default 0 kB to 512 kB and start again. This time with success:
Furthermore, there is a second web implementation of the vAmiga emulator, vAmigaWeb. This is maintained by GitHub user "Mithrendal" and can be reached at this direct link. As vAmiga developer Dirk Hoffmann tells us, "this emulator is also in beta. At the moment important features like the keyboard are still missing. A mouse support is available since yesterday. This webport should run later mainly on mobile devices." (dr)

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.9.3
RedPill, developed by Carlos Peris, is a game construction kit written in Amiblitz 3.8, which allows the development of games from various genres (see short tests of two Redpill games). RedPill is compatible with AGA and ECS, the "player" for playing the finished creations requires a total of 1.5 MB RAM.
This new version 0.9.3 provides the following changes:
- Profiler update: Trigger conditions and actions are displayed. Also added extra cathegories in the main bar.
- Code for global variables has been optimized.
- Code for input has been optimized.
- Render code has been optimized.
- New action Trigger Sprite Layer to enabled or disable the Level Sprite Layer.
- New action Trigger Sprite Spd X to set up the Level Sprite Layer Speed in X.
- Removed HUD Enabled/Top/Bottom from HUD screen as now the setup is done in Level Properties.
- Audio routines for player and the editor have been unified.
- Code has been converted to ASCII, this is just better for me but could have some unknown implications.
- Some internal code refactoring.
- In Game Setup screen Target FPS has been renamed to Max FPS.
- FIX: Sprite setup not being seen in the Level Properties screeb.
- FIX: When entering the level screen some old projects could crash the editor.

Javascript: Scripted Amiga Emulator 0.9.13
Rupert Hausberger's "Scripted Amiga Emulator" is written in Javascript and HTML5. The goal of his project is to make the 'Amiga Classic' emulation available for browsers. This should not require any browser plugins or third-party scripts, but only HTML5 and Javascript. Finally, it should be possible to play demos, intros or mods, play games or benchmark the browser. After a small break, he has now brought version 0.9.13 online, which brings the following changes:
- Fixed bug in CLXDAT in combination with full-collision-detection. (Thanks 'dirkwhoffmann' for info)
- Fixed Semi-Colon-Key under Firefox. (Thanks 'goldnchild' for info)
- Enabled HTTPS. It should fix the Gamepad-API secure-context problem. (Thanks 'goldnchild' for info)

AmigaOS 3/4: New Netsurf test build
In May 2020 the version 3.10 of the ReAction-based Amiga port of the web browser Netsurf was released. Until the next official release 3.11, so-called test builds are published by the developers, which already include changes but may still contain bugs.
After a longer break, Chris Young has now updated the build version #5314 with the root certificates, which are included in the currently current version #5318. When asked, Chris Young explained to us that especially the OS3 version has to be considered as a pure test version - 'very alpha/beta quality'. Furthermore, he holds out the prospect of a possible special AmigaOS 3.2 version, should it prove true that the ReAction gadgets and his workarounds for the old versions are the cause of the instability.
A short test of the OS4 version first takes us to our main page, which loads without problems. When selecting a single message, three or four seconds pass:
Now the message about Ben Hermans is selected and the source on amigaworld.net is called. The page loads quickly, but an additional window opens with a list of JavaScript errors. At least it becomes clear that the page obviously does not work without the infamous tracking tool..:
Well remembered is that GitHub pages often cause difficulties (under previous Wayfarer versions sometimes no text was visible), so we test the link to Dirk Hoffmann's MacOS emulator vAmiga:
The page itself loads very quickly, but the warning messages increase again. Furthermore, logging in is not possible because the corresponding link is missing. Basically, JavaScript can be disabled in the settings. Furthermore Chris Young gave us the tip to add "log_filter:level:CRITICAL" to the choice file under NetSurf/Users/Default to stop the display of the errors. Finally, we allow ourselves to type a big name into the input field: heise.de:
Apart from the fact that you are overwhelmed by JavaScript errors, this was probably a bit too big. But NetSurf ran stable and one can only hope that the development will be continued to have another alternative especially under AmigaOS 4.

The story: "Christmas Day has come to The Garden. The children are starting to wake up and wander around, still half-asleep, looking for the presents Santa has left them. But none are to be found!
Gather magical gifts as they appear and toss them to the dreaming children. Don't miss, and watch out for the GRONCH dashing around stealing presents! Take too long and the children will wake up to no presents and Christmas will be ruined!"
Turbo Santa (video) has been announced for December and will be available for free. It will require 1Mb Chip Ram and Kickstart 2.04. Music is by DJ METUNE. (dr)

Graphics card: Status update on the ZZ9000
In 2018 the ZZ9000 as the successor of the FPGA-based and open source Zorro II/III compatible graphics board MNT VA2000 could be preordered. The ZZ9000 combines a RTG graphics board, AGA scandoubler and network card equipped with two 666-MHz-ARM coprocessors for applications demanding high processing power like accelerated graphic rendering or JPEG and MP3 decoding. Besides, an USB port provides support for USB mass storages.
Now on the product site the following statement was published: "Due to the global chip shortage, we have decided to stop selling ZZ9000 temporarily. We have preordered all necessary parts to build and ship all existing orders. The current shipping target for 92% of existing orders is January 2022 and the rest in March 2022. Thank you for your patience and support." (dr)

Tools for ARexx development: RxEnv V1.2
At the beginning of September we reported on Carl Svensson's project RxEnv which is supposed to add a 'REPL' to the ARexx development environment.
REPL is for 'Read, Eval, Print, Loop' and offers the option to enter any ARexx code in an interactive window and get immediately response. This might be helpful to find bugs in the code (see this article).
His intension and the story of his project, Svensson has explained in his article The Joy Of Limitations: Writing an ARexx REPL in ARexx. Now he has released version 1.2 of RxEnv with the following changes:
- Implemented immediate mode in the REPL.
- If an error occurs, rxpp now exits with return code 20 instead of return code 1.
- Added malloc() checks to rxpp.
- Added the pprx script.
- Minor cleanups in REPL code.

8-BitArcade-Adventure: "PETSCII Robots" announced for Amiga
PETSCII Robots by popular Texas youtuber 8 Bit Guy is an arcade adventure game originally developed for the Commodore PET, whose in-game "graphics" consisted entirely of PETSCII characters (video).
Since then the commercially distributed title has been made available for various retro platforms (including VIC 20, C64, C128, Plus/4, Apple II, Atari), with each port attempting to exploit the graphical and sound capabilities of the target system as much as possible. In his most recent Youtube release the "8 Bit Guy" now announces further ports, including one for the Amiga 500 - moving pictures of this version can be seen starting at minute 16:50. (cg)

Anniversary: 20 years AmigaSource
For 20 years now Scott Pistorino collects on his site AmigaSource all information around the Amiga. On October 19, 2001 he introduced his project on amiga-news.de. Beside several interviews with Ben Hermans or Fleecy Moss from 2002 there are numerous categories like software, hardware, demos etc. Because Pistorino changed to a new database some time ago, some articles are not yet available again. In the future he plans to add links to all official Amiga systems like X1000, A1222 etc. as well as systems of external developers like MiSTer, Vampire, Raspberry Pi etc. We say congratulations! (dr)

New preview video: Souverän Soccer
Daniel 'Daytona675x' Müßener (Wings Remastered, MiniGL4GL4ES, Tower 57) is working on a soccer game with 3D view called "Souverän Soccer" (amiga-news.de reported) which is supposed to run on unaccelerated Amiga 1200 and CD32 with 50 fps.
Meanwhile the author has published the 20. preview video from which here two screenshots have been taken:
The crowd asset is a temporary placeholder, taken from Super Soccer (SNES). About the history of the game the author wrote:
"Around 1994 or so, when I lived in Ecuador, my friend Patricio Maldo and I were pretty much the only Amiga users all around, everybody else was into PC. Therefore software supply was pretty bad and we usually had to wait until the next trip to Germany to stock up.
Although I actually hate soccer, we both spent hours over hours with the soccer management simulations "Starbyte Super Soccer" and "Bundesliga Manager Pro" (and he constantly beating me ;) ).
Our verdict was clear: Starbyte had the more interesting features whereas Bundesliga Manager had the superior presentation with its great goal sequences.
What we wanted was a mixture of both, so I started coding one. I'm pretty sure it was Patricio who came up with the name "Souverän!".
Back then I used GFA Basic on my A500 with 1MB. By the time it was pretty cool, had lots of advanced features, but the primary reason for using it was: I simply had nothing else ;)
For the goal sequences I came up with something special: SNES Super Formation Soccer like 3D view! I had seen this in an issue of the german games mag "VideoGames", used those mags a lot for inspiration. Well, it was not fullscreen, of course, limited to 4 color IIRC, consisting out of some 10 precalculated base pictures (thanks to DeluxePaint's 3D functions) and parallax scrolling chunks of 5 rows of pixels or so. Was actually pretty cool nevertheless :)
Unfortunately I ran into some RAM limitations at some point, IIRC it was some issue with GFA Basic itself, something like no more arrays available or so, so the project died when it was already fairly advanced.
So, this here is a tribute to this project from ~25 years ago :)." (dr)

Emulator: FS-UAE 3.1
The author Frode Solheim wrote:
"While I'm primarily working on FS-UAE & Launcher 4, I've seen the need to do some updates to version 3 as well. Especially for macOS users where 3.0.5 is not working very well on the latest macOS releases. But it has useful fixes for other platforms as well, including a fix for using .lha archives on Windows and a compatibility fix for using QEMU-UAE on recent Linux distros. I haven't announced version 3.1 on fs-uae.net yet, among other things because I don't have installers prepared yet, and I also haven't had time to make sure that FS-UAE Arcade runs correctly. Apologies for not having a more smooth upgrade path, but I simply haven't had time.
I have made a post over at the English Amiga Board with links to FS-UAE & Launcher version 3.1. I recommend that most users using 3.0.5 upgrade to this version." (dr)

AmigaOS 4: MediaVault 1.5.1
MediaVault is an open source application for AmigaOS 4 which can be used to discover online radio stations and, since Version 1.4.0, also to listen to podcasts. An external player like the free AmigaAmp or the commercial Emotion and the jansson.library v2.12.1 are required. About the latest version 1.5.0 the author George Sokianos has written:
"When I started working on MediaVault I was thinking that I would be very happy to release new versions every two weeks. And here we are, with releases every few days, not even two weeks. Sure, some of them were small or bug fixes only, but the majority had one or two changes that make the user experience better.
Like the way the podcast episodes are shown in this version and the new updates auto check every time you start MediaVault. The latter will keep you updated, without the need to learn about a new release from a blog post or check for that manually.
From v1.5.1 when you select a podcast, either from your favourites list or from the discovery ones, the podcasts list appears at the middle of the MediaVault window. This way it is easier to read their titles and the date they were released, with the need to make the window bigger. You can always return to the search results by selecting the section from the left sidebar.
There were some extra changes and fixes to make the application better all the way and a lot of code cleanup, to keep it readable for other developers.
I would like to thank all of my supporters for helping me develop MediaVault, adding new features and making it better and better." (dr)

Little review: Password management "PassPocket"
Yesterday version 1.1 of the password manager 'PasspPocket' was released in the OS4Depot. However, the archive includes versions for both AmigaOS 3 and 4. We took a look at the version for AmigaOS 4 and daringly left the instructions (in German and English) aside (for now) and started the program directly - hoping to be able to dive intuitively into the world of password management...
After starting the program, we are greeted by the following small window:
Hm, our expectations were dashed right at the beginning: Logically (?) I assumed that some window opens and you are asked whether you want to create a new password database or open an existing one. Since one is asked directly for a password, this can only mean: First start of the program, so a new database is created and I give the password. Which of the readers goes along with this train of thought...? I try to be creative, not to use simply "test" and decide for "OhneAmigaistdieWeltfade" ;) I could have saved myself this labor of love, though, as immediately a window grumbles, "The main password does not match a database". Well, the menu of 'PassPocket' only allows an "Quit". So, with my intuition I didn't get far and now I'll have a look at the manual after all. "Getting Started - Test driving PassPocket." The author probably guessed that there would be questions. There I read that 'PassPocket' always automatically searches for databases in the folder "Database" and in this first case finds the sample database. Aha. The password would be "AmigaRulez!". Let's try, works:
I learn further that pressing the pen (AISS package required!) starts the edit mode of the entry. I try with the "Sample Account":
Oh dear, also caught Google...;) With the magnifying glass the password can be shown, here "Password" is used sensibly. I cancel and want to create my own database now, of course. Using the menu item "Database" and the entry "New", a window like the first one shown above is generated, now with the text:" Enter a master password to create a new database." After so much mental work already done, I now make it easy and use: "Amiga". Thereupon a selection window opens for the assignment of a name for the database. I stay with "Amiga".
I'll do it!
So, how can you use this in a meaningful way? Again a look into the manual. One learns: If an entry is activated (left mouse button), you can use CTRL+Alt+u to enter the web page, for example, in the browser at the top. Works! The username can be inserted with CTRL+Alt+n and the password finally with CTRL+Alt+p. Works.
I am now still interested in what happens after closing and restarting the program. Will I be offered different databases? No, I am simply asked for the main password of the database. Hm, okay, then, I think, it will simply compare all existing databases with my entered password and open them if they match. So I type in "Amiga" and get the disappointing message: password does not match any database. Hmm...Consult the manual again. Oha: I have to change the tooltypes of the program myself and add to my newly created database...:
So I add: 'DATABASE2=Amiga' and 'BACKUP2=Amiga_Backup'. So, now I start the program again and type in 'Amiga' and behold, my "Forum Amiga News" entry appears...But there shouldn't be a more user-friendly solution...? What is also not clear to me: Why is it only possible to delete all account entries of a database and not a single one? It is more likely that I have deleted my access data of a single site, so I don't need them anymore and only want to have this entry deleted...
Since not only IBrowse, but under OS4 also Odyssey Web Browser offers a password management, the question remains: What for and when do I use 'PassPocket'? Since surfing the internet with an Amiga is an exciting and challenging task, which sometimes works better with one browser, sometimes with the other, it would make sense not to create the passwords again with every browser, but to use 'PassPocket'. By the way, the program is free and open source, the source code is included in the archive. (dr)

Famous Amiga users: Horst Seehofer (german politician)
That the parting home secretary of Germany and former prime minister of the german state Bavaria enjoys a model railway in his spare time has been publicly known for quite some time already. Now, however, in an interview with german news magazine "Der Spiegel" (issue 45/2021), Horst Seehofer revealed another, at least former, hobby as well.
Asked what exactly he would like about model making, he answered: "In the past I always unscrewed every Amiga computer because I wanted to understand how it works. Today it's different, most people don't know what a circuit board is today, some can't even fix a bicycle tire. On the model railway you do it all at once: You build with wood. You deal with electrics. You can program." (snx)

ModExplorer 3.8 FE for all Amiga systems
As author Jörg Renkert writes on his homepage, the point of ModPlayer is not to be just another audio player (there are already enough good ones) with which to listen to your music archives. Instead, it offers users mods that they have never heard before. To do this, ModExplorer randomly downloads modules from the Internet (including Aminet, Modland and modules.pl) and plays them. These mods are also not stored permanently. Instead, ModExplorer creates a playlist that contains Internet links to these music files. This way they can be played again later.
The new version 3.8 now also offers a visual plugin that graphically represents the tracks by patterns and equalizers. Likewise, the author has integrated a small Trailblazer game as a gimmick. Besides some bug fixes, the program can now be controlled with the joystick.
The version name has received the appendix 'FE', because according to the author ModExplorer now includes all feature requested from users and also from himself. Therefore, this will be the final version (FE) of ModExplorer. But bug fixes would be made. However, he plans a special version for 68k Amigas for some of the functions of ModExplorer these Amigas so far overload. (dr)

Lionheart Remake: Version 1.20 of Java por of Lionheart in development
After Byron 3D Games Studio had released the amiga game Lionheart for the LionEngine developed by them as Lionheart Java Remake in mid-October in version 1.10, the development of version 1.20 has now been started with the release of first screenshots of the underwater world.
Pierre-Alexandre, one of the developers, told us that the boss is finished. Now there is still some cleanup to do to complete the 'Underworld' tasks. Then he wants to add support for CRT filters and a launchable level editor. Having seen some videos of the remake on YouTube where none of the players could finish the first stage, he now is going to to simplify it.
The source codes for both the LionEngine and the game implementation are available on GitHub. (dr)

Ben Hermans listed as Hyperion's director again
In early May, Ben Hermans was delisted as Hyperion's director and presumably replaced by a judicial liquidator for Ben Hermans B.V. - the company that held the actual director position, while the person Ben Hermans acted as its permanent representative. According to an entry in Belgium's legal newsletter (local copy), Hermans was already reinstated as a director at the end of June (automated translation):
"With judgment of the Dutch-speaking business court of Brussels from June 18, 2021 [...] the judgment of May 7, 2021 where Mr. Jean Louis de Chaffoy de Courcelles was appointed as judicial liquidator, has been overruled. The judicial dissolution of Ben Hermens [B.V.] was revoked and the judicial liquidator was released from his assignment."
This week, Belgium's company register has been updated as well and now lists Ben Hermans' company as a director and Hermans himself as the company's permanent representative in that role again.
In a statement included in our previous news item, Mr. Hermans had announced that his private company had only got in trouble because it failed to file the yearly account for 2019 in time and that he was working on solving that.
Said yearly account is also available online now (local copy). The last page of the PDF file is - in contrast to the Rest of the document - made up of a picture containing scanned text instead of actual text and is therefore not readable for translation software. We OCR'd the document and fed the resulting Dutch text to a translation program. The result tells us the following:
On November 4, 2019 Ben Hermans sold 2165 Hyperion shares he personally owned to his company Ben Hermans B.V, for a price of 402,690 Euro (186 Euro per share). These are likely all of Hermans' shares: After a capital increase just a few months before the transaction in question, Hermans owned about 97% of the total of 2245 Hyperion shares. The transfer of shares from Ben Hermans to Ben Hermans B.V. has to be reported in the latter's yearly account due to a potential conflict of interest: Hermans sold shares of the company he runs to another company, while permantently representing the latter in the former's board of directors.

Accelerator board: First batch of 'Tsunami 1230' delivered
At the beginning of August the developer Miguel Fides had announced a new accelerator board called 'Tsunami 1230' for the A1200. At the beginning of September then a first production run was started. As Miguel announces on the 'The Tsunami Project website, these boards have now been sent not only to the first pre-order customers, but also to selected stores. These include Relec (Switzerland) and Retropassion (UK) as well as Alinea in Germany. When asked, Simon Neumann from Alinea told us that currently, however, no cards have arrived yet.
Those who missed the pre-order campaign for the first production run can still express their interest in the card via Mail. (dr)

AmigaOS 4: FTP-Server 'ZitaFTP' 1.30
Hans de Ruiter has released version 1.30 of his commercial FTP server 'ZitaFTP'. He wrote:
"I have a new ZitaFTP Server update for you. This one has a major new feature that's almost invisible (and that's by design). The new feature is: countermeasures against password cracking. It's designed to keep hackers out of your server and your machine, keeping your files safe.
More specifically, it protects against brute-force and dictionary type password cracking attempts. These attempts involve repeatedly trying different username and password combinations until they finally stumble on one that gets them in. It may sound impractical, but remember that these attacks are automated. Without any countermeasures, many password combinations could be attempted automatically per-second. ZitaFTP Server's password cracking prevention slows down and locks out would-be hackers, thereby keeping your files safe.
ZitaFTP Server is currently designed to be an easy to use private network server. It's perfectly capable of being an internet facing FTP server, but deliberately haven't added that ability to the UI. That's because the internet is a risky neighbourhood.
In the physical world, thieves can rattle windows and doors at night, looking for one that's loose (had that happen in Toronto one night). If they find a loose one, they sneak in. Well, on the internet the entire globe is your neighbourhood. Every single computer on the internet could potentially communicate with your internet facing server, meaning that good, bad, and downright evil people could all potentially come knocking, or rattling your server's virtual windows.
I simply wasn't comfortable adding internet server features to the UI without some kind of countermeasures against hacking attempts. The countermeasures are now here, so adding UI features to make setting up a full internet facing FTP server will be next (e.g., handling an external domain & TLS certificate)."
A single license of 'ZitaFTP Server' is available for about 47 Euro. The program can be tested for free for 30 days. (dr)
