US trademark: "Amiga" now registered by Amiga Corporation
Last autumn, Hyperion had withdrawn its opposition against Cloanto's registration of the US trademark 'Amiga'. According to current paperwork from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) the mark is now properly registered.

The document still lists Cloanto Corporation as the owner of the mark. We are told by Mike Battilana (Cloanto, Amiga Corporation) that this is caused by the USPTO's slowness when adding results from the assignment queue to the public database. He points out that the the mark has already been assigned to Amiga Corporation back in January and that he expects the USPTO database to get updated accordingly in the next few days.

Note from staff: Since the USPTO is already pointing out a "likelihood of confusion" of the US marks Hyperion applied for (AmigaOne, AmigaOS) with the 'Amiga' mark, we assume that these attempted registrations will be denied in the near future now that the latter has been registered. VirusZ III: Bootblock file updated
In December the Virus Help Team reported a new bootblock virus (amiga-news.de reported). A week ago a new bootblock file was released to use with VirusZ III v1.02. The team wrote: "Some of the bootblock viruses we have added to the VirusZ_III.Bootblocks, will make checksum changes with each mutation, that means that every time the virus infects, it change code. So there is absolutely no guarantee that the new viruses, we have added it will be reported as a the virus, because the virus could have mutated and changed it's code. But we will add as many mutations as we possible can."

The team also explained under the title link: "VirusZ is still the classic antivirus software for Amiga computers. Virus Help Team have made this VirusZ_III.bootblocks file, because there is nothing else we can do, no one from Virus Help Team knows anything about programming and can't make an antivirus program and Virus Help Team does not have the scource code for the xvs.library by Georg Hörmann. So that is why we think this is better than nothing, at least now VirusZ III can find bootvirus unknown to xvs.library." (snx) (Translation: dr)
