MakeHTMLMap: Update version 4.017 to fix some errors
Roland Heyders Shareware-Program MakeHTMLMap is update to version 4.017. The software createds Picture-galeries and online-shops. The Systemrequirements are AmigaOS 2.04 and 2 MB RAM. This update fixed some errors during naming of PHP-files.

Statement of Roland Heyder (in german): "Ja, ja, da hat Murphys Gesetz mal wieder voll zugeschlagen.

E Compiler: Update for ECX to version 1.4.6
ECX is a compiler for the E programming language for AmigaOS and MorphOS. The update of the compiler to version 1.4.6 requires the package of the forerunner version (exc48.lha) and brings about diverse error corrections and improvements.

A previous installation of the Amiga-E package (amigae33a.lha) and, at least, the EMODULES: assign with the V40 EModules are required.

The compiler needs at least a 68000 processor, AmigaOS V37+ and 2 MB of memory. The compilations require a 68020 (+68881 if using floats) and AmigaOS V37, or a PowerPC and MorphOS as minimum.

Features:
  • 68xxx and PowerPC CPU support
  • EC binary modules as well as new binary modules support

Laser inscription with Amiga motifs, Part III
amiga-news.de reader Gernot "Gerry" Stühn had already made promotions multiple times, where Amiga users could get individual laser engravings on (for instance) stainless steel cups. Because of the surprisingly good response at that time, he would like to submit such an offer again. Stühn writes:

"As you still surely know, some time ago I had started an attempt to revive the Amiga and its corresponding remaining spirit again. In collaboration with my company, I had offered some products for laser engraving.

The response for this spontaneous promotion was amazingly good. Unfortunately, or, put another way, thank God, I am now no longer working at my former employer, "Lasertechnologie Winter." But in a short time I will consult four local laser companies, among others, about my new concept (am now self-employed). Thus, another chance to bring up some things, also in the Amiga domain again, arises of course, which could go in the direction of stainless steel unicums in matters of laser inscription.

But for this, I must necessarily know if there is still interest at all. Please use the contact form on my page for this (alternative link). I would be glad if we wangled it one more time.

AMIGA rulez..
Greetings,
Gerry ;)" (cg) (Translation: cad)

ODW-Review of the British print magazine "Linux User & Developer"
The British print magazine Linux User & Developer has published a review of the Genesis Pegasos II based Open Desktop Workstation (ODW).

The ODW would be a powerful, but affordable PowerPC-workstation which is targeted straight on the linux market.

The unit recommends itself as an excellent and good equipped computer at a good price. The only weak, but not production specific point would be that the PowerPC-based linux version generally runs behind the x86 version regarding to popularity. The ODW got an appropriate score of 5 from 5 points.

Amiga-Portal: amiga-resistance.de
The administrators of amiga-resistance are announcing the opening of their Amiga portal:

"Hello community,

Amiga Resistance has officially opened its gates now. But be aware that the amount of the pages is in a very early state. As a consequence the project pages are a little thin. But we hope to change this item as soon as possible with your help.

Our intention: We want to act as a central address which could be used from beginners and newbies as well as experienced amiga users.

What we offer:
  • A forum as a communication platform, where users can help each other.
  • A large download archive which offers much more besides drivers, user manuals and install disks.
  • The project pages, where users introduce their own projects. From conversions over upgrades of the Amiga to own software projects. The project pages are serving as a reference book or an incentive being active on his own to do something. From users, for users.
  • A chat where you can communicate to other users, or to get quick help

Of course Amiga Resistance exists from the participation of its users, too. If you have interesting material, workshops or similar items which could help other users, please send it to us. We will make it available that other users profit from it.

The Amiga Resistance team is eager for letters, suggestions, criticisms or material for our homepage." (cg)

Editor's Thoughts and Introduction:

As summer comes to an end (sigh) we find we have a couple of
interesting shows to report on this time, and some interesting
software. My favorite this month has to be the Mindspace drawing
program, honestly released as "vaguely usefull". Now there's a
designation you aren't going to see from Micro$oft although it would
be appropriate in many cases.
It's not an Amiga only item, but the mid-air display announced this
month by the folks at IO2technology has to be about the coolest
thing to come along in quite a while, and is probably the current
ultimate geek toy. For a number of days after the anouncement you
simply couldn't get into their website for the traffic. You can read
about it below, but be sure to check out the website for yourselves
and take a look at the videos. Reading between the lines, it seems
they may only have prototypes actually built so far, but the product
seems real enough. Wonder how well - or if - it will work with an
A1? As soon as someone knows, please tell us!
We hope you enjoy this issue.
 Brad Webb,
 Editor

>From IO2 Technolgy:

Overview

The Heliodisplay includes patented and patent pending technology to
transform normalambient air and display video images into free-space.
Some Heliodisplay models are interactive allowing a finger or hand to
move images around in the air as if one were grabbing a tangible
object.

The Heliodisplay requires a power outlet, and a computer, TV, DVD or
alternate video source. The current version of the Heliodisplay
projects a 22" to 42" (depending on model) diagonal image that floats
above the device. The Heliodisplay system is backward compatible and
accepts most 2D video sources (PC,TV, DVD, HDTV, Video game
consoles). For connection to a computer, the Heliodisplay uses a
standard monitor VGA connection; for TV or DVD viewing, it connects
using a standard RGB video cable.

Heliodisplay images are easily viewed in an office environment. Like
any computer monitor or TV, images appear brighter the lower the
ambient light. Also, just like viewing any computer monitor or TV,
viewing a Heliodisplay image in direct sunlight is almost impossible.

The Heliodisplay is interactive, like a virtual touchscreen. A hand
or finger can act as a mouse. No special glove or pointing device is
required. Just as you use a mouse to move the cursor on a traditional
computer monitor, you can use your finger to move the cursor around
the Heliodisplay image (see: Images & Videos). The Heliodisplay
connects to a computer (at least: Pentium III 400MHZ;25MB free disk
space;Win2000/XP) through a USB port.

Operating the device will not change a room's environment, air
quality or other conditions. Air comes into the device, is modified
then ejected and illuminated to produce the image. Nothing is added
to the air so there isn't any harmful gas or liquid emitted from the
device. If a Heliodisplay were left running for a week in a
hermetically sealed room, the only change to the room`s environment
would be from the electricity used to run the device. Although the
Heliodisplay uses lasers, the images are not holographic.

The image is display into two-dimensional space (i.e.planar).
Heliodisplay images appear 3D when viewed from more than a few feet
away because there is no physical depth reference. Images can be seen
up to 75?off aspect for a total viewing area of over 150?- similar to
an LCD screen. Viewing requires no special glasses or background
foreground screening.

The Heliodisplay is backward compatible and accepts most 2D video
sources (PC,TV, DVD, HDTV, Video game consoles). For connection to a
computer, the Heliodisplay uses a standard monitor VGA connection;
for TV or DVD viewing, it connects using a standard RGB video cable.

This version of the Heliodisplay is interactive, like a virtual
touchscreen. A hand or finger can act as a mouse for mouse/cursor
control. No special glove or pointing device is required. Just as you
use a mouse to move the cursor on a traditional computer monitor, you
can use your finger to move the cursor around the Heliodisplay image
(see: Images & Videos). The Heliodisplay connects to a computer (at
least: Pentium III 400MHZ;25MBfree disk space; Win2000/XP) through a
USB port

E-UAE 0.8.28
============

This is a fork of UAE, the Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator, with an
emulation corebased on WinUAE. It attempts to bring many of the great
features of WinUAEto non-Windows platforms. This version now finally
has a name, E-UAE, sincethat's what everybody was calling it anyway.
The 'E' can stand for anythingyou fancy. Experimental, extreme,
exciting, egalitarian, eggplant, . . .

Currently it will build and run (with a varying degree of supported
features) on Linux and other Unices, Mac OS X, BeOS, AmigaOS itself
(either for 68k machines or PPC machines with OS4.0) and the AmigaOS
clones AROS and MorphOS. OS X requires either LibSDL or an X server
for graphicsoutput, but native graphics are supported on AmigaOS and
BeOS, although, at the moment, SDL is also preferred on BeOS since
the native driver is incomplete.

E-UAE is open-source software and is made available under the terms
of the GPL. See the COPYING file included with the E-UAE archive for
details.

E-UAE is based on the work of dozens of contributors including Bernd
Schmidt (the original author and maintainer of UAE), Bernie Meyer
(the author of the x86 JIT compiler), Toni Wilen (the current
maintainer of WinUAE), and many more.

To make full use of E-UAE you will need access to an image of some
version of the Amiga Kickstart ROM (although UAE does include a ROM
emulation which may work with some old games). The Amiga Kickstart
ROMs are copyrighted material and may not be freely distributed (so
don't ask me for a copy). If you don't have an Amiga from which you
can legally make a ROM image, a selection of ROM images are available
for purchase online from Cloanto (publishers of the Amiga Forever
distribution). Seehttp://www.amigaforever.com/

What's new since 0.8.27
=======================

General
-------
* Many core emulation changes and fixes merged from WinUAE 1.0.
* Optimized interpretive 68k emulation with speed improvements of up
to 30%.
* Fixes for building with GCC 4.0.
* Fixes for building on 64-bit hosts such as the AMD64.
* Option not to use the CPU's time-stamp counter for synchronization
on x86,
AMD64 and PPC machines (generally you will want to).
* Fixed virtual filesystem bug that was causing IBrowse to crash.
* Improved 'new' bsdsocket emulation (and it now works on OS X and on
  AMD64/Linux too).
* Better screenmode support in SDL graphics driver.
* X11 driver supports raw key-mapping for xfree86 keycodes.
* Documentation updates (thanks to Henrik Farre for documenting the
  command-line options).

Linux
-----
* Faster start-up on x86 and AMD64 systems and PPC systems with Open
Firmware (it's no longer necessary to perform TSC/TBC calibration at
  start-up).
* CPU frequency scaling supported on x86/AMD64 systems.

OS X
----
* Faster start-up (it's no longer necessary to perform timing
calibration at start-up).
* Improved Cocoa dialogs (thanks to Steve Saunders).

AmigaOS (and clones)
--------------------
* Fixed virtual filesystem bug that broke mounting of a host path
ending in
  a ':' or a '/'.
* Faster start-up on OS4 on AmigaONE hardware (it's no longer
necessary to
  perform timing calibration at start-up).
* High/true-colour rendering supported on AROS.
* AmigaOS graphics driver now works on OS4 update 3.
* Emulated SCSI device and hence CD32 emulation now work on OS4.0
(support other Amiga-like OSes will follow).

Win32
-----
* Rudimentary support added for compiling with MinGW32 against SDL
(and I've also heard that it works with Cygwin). This is just for
fun right now, and if you want UAE on Windows you're much better off
sticking to WinUAE.

Still to do
===========

The following features of WinUAE are not supported:

* Serial and parallel port emulation.
* AHI soundcard emulation.
* Catweasel support.
* OpenGL rendering and graphics filters.
* Snapshots
* Emulation of a CD32 controller.
* Floppy drive sounds.
* Everything else that I've forgotten about.

Known problems
==============

Some significant misfeatures that I know about and am working to fix:

* Only platforms supporting the GTK+ toolkit have a useable
configuration GUI (and the GTK+ GUI is still incomplete).
* JIT direct memory access only works on Linux/x86 and, by default,
you may only emulate up to 32MB of direct ZIII RAM; select more
than that and the JIT will fall back on indirect memory access and
hence will be slower.
This is due to a system limit on the size of a POSIX shared memory
segment. You can overcome this limit my modifying the value of the
procfs setting, /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax.
* Autoscroll screens are broken in Picasso96 emulation.
* Virtual filesystem doesn't support platforms which use UTF-8 for
filenames (e.g., OS X, Linux with a UTF-8 locale, etc.). Filenames
with characters outside of the core ASCII range will be mangled.
* Hard files are limited to 2GB in size.
* Full documentation is lacking.

Using E-UAE
===========

Documentation is a work-in-progress. See the docs directory.

AmiPodder version 1.2 is now available for download. This release
speeds up the "Update all Channels" operation by checking to see if
the channel has been updated before downloading and processing the
feed. It's a small change but makes the "Upate all" feature much more
usable.

Podcasting is a new way for anyone (from large companies to
individuals) to distribute radio programs they have made themselves.
Podcasting has rapidly gained popularity, particularly with the
recent addition of podcasting support to Apple's iTunes music
software. AmiPodder enables you to subscribe (for free) to podcast
fees on your Amiga!

Once you have subscribed to a feed within AmiPodder, you can browse
the available podcasts and download the ones that interest you.
AmiPodder can be configured to download new podcasts automatically so
there is always something fresh and interesting to listen to. Once a
podcast has been downloaded AmiPodder can play it using MP3 player
utility on your Amiga and, optionally, copy it onto a portable MP3
player for listening anywhere.

What is it? - RockBEAT is a simple software drum machine for
AmigaOS4.It is a tool for musicians that allows you to create
drumming tracks. It can create multiple tracks, each one being 4x 4/4
measures with 16th notes. You can save individual tracks as wav
files, or the whole thing as one big song. You can drop in your own
16bit 44100Hz PCM WAV samples in the drumsamples/ folder if you like.
Great for the bedroom guitarist!

- RockBEAT 1.1 now available. It
fixes a few teething problems

- No more grim reaper alerts when starting then stopping playback
quickly I removed an AbortIO() call that wasnt really needed.

- Theres no more excess silence at the end of wav files for
individually saved tracks

- Button graphics are freed up when quitting now

- All message ports are emptied and deleted when quitting. No more
"unfreed signals" error messages now, and I think it has brought up
stability a little.

- Drum samples limit changed to 20. It used to crash after more than
10 samples were loaded due to a silly programming error. i.e. looping
up to 20 times when there were only 10 available spaces in the array.

- Adding new samples to the drumsamples/ folder will no longer make
old projects invalid

- Better compatibility with some WAVs. RockBEAT used to assume a
certain WAV header value was a always certain size, but I've found
out it can bedifferent.

- I have included a cool cymbal sample to the default drumsamples/ set

The demo is restricted to 10 minutes. If you like it, you can
purchase a keyfile from me for $15 USD.
This is not an automated process. Once I recieve notice of your
payment, I will email you a keyfile as soon as possible. This
shouldnt be longerthan 48 hours.

The AROS Archives: File Area for AROS opened
"The AROS Archives" is up and ready to accept your files. This web site will be the main repository for all AROS software, but we need your help. Software needs to be uploaded to the site. Developers are definitely encouraged to upload their own software.

The site has went through some changes. We started out with a Microsoft ASP coded site, but with help from Björn Hagström, we were able to have the site coded in PHP, which makes it much easier to maintain. Damir Sijakovic did a great job on the design for The AROS Archives.

This web site is supported by AROS-Exec.org and is located at archives.aros-exec.org.

I want to thank the following people for their help with the project:
Björn Hagström (OS4Depot.net)
Damir Sijakovic (d980)
Ola '4pLaY' Jensen (AROS-Exec.org)
Nicolas 'nicomen' Mendoza (AROS-Exec.org)

If you have any questions, please post in the forum of AROS-Exec.org, ask in the #aros IRC channel at the Freenode network or send an e-mail to archives@aros-exec.org.

Thanks and enjoy!

Database: Golden Amiga Games Encyclopedia updated
The Golden Amiga Games Encyclopedia by Volker 'Dr. Zarkov' Mohr has been updated to version 14.0. 100 games have been added, the information of 31 further ones updated.

The online-database started as an AmigaGuide document with the goal to list all Amiga Games that were compatible with AGA and 68020+ Amigas.

Because many games didn't work on upgraded machines, Volker Mohr started testing them with all kind of degrading tools and added this information to the database. Today, besides the compatibility, you can also find information about the publishers, cheats, docs, walkthroughs and screenshots. (snx)

Linux: OpenSuSE 10.0 for PowerPC / Short guide for installation on Pegasos
Due to the large number of requests, again a PowerPC version of the Linux distribution OpenSuSE has been released in version 10.0 beta 3 ("Bangalore") at the title link.

At PPCZone Marcel 'Frostwork' Unbehaun has published a short guide for installing OpenSuSE on the Pegasos. All you need is a Pegasos-compatible kernel, no further modifications are required.

How to install OpenSuSE on Pegasos computers:
  • Boot the first SuSE-CD with the following parameters: boot cd suseboot/inst32 minmemory=0 MemYastText=0 sysrq=1
  • You will be guided through the installation process
  • When installation of the first CD is finished, the computer will reboot
  • Now copy the kernel-modules of a Pegasos-compatible kernel to /lib/modules/"kernelversion" of your new system
  • Copy a Pegasos-compatible kernel to your boot-hd (if it isn't already there; if you choose a special filesystem like reiserfs, make sure it is compiled into your kernel)
  • In the Open Firmware, a usual linux-boot parameter-path is everything you will need: boot "SuseKernel" root=/dev/your-chosen-hd (plus additional parameters you want to use, like video=xxx)
  • SuSE should boot now with your kernel and finish installation

MorphOS: libnix updated
There's a new libnix available for MorphOS in the download area of the MorphOS Developer Connection. It is recommended that all registered developers updated an installed MorphOS SDK with this new version.

Among other things were the following changed or are new:
  • added lfind/lsearch.
  • fixed access(), which didn't work properly at all.
  • optimized fseek(), should be much faster with in-buffer seeks now.
  • fixed scanf() (and all related functions (including strtod)) parsing of sequence of floats.
  • qsort() no longer compares the same elements against eachother (pointless, and broke some compare routines).
  • support printf/scanf (and related functions) %hh formatting.

MorphOS: ressources-friendly MUI settings (2nd Update)
Oliver 'Bladerunner' Hummel made ressources friendly MUI settings available for users of the PowerUp version of MorphOS. In addition, he recommends the use of the skin "Rainy Blue" that is available on the CD. The effect is clearly visible. Further help can be found in our forum.

Download: Muilight.prefs (15 KB)

Update: (22:15, 28.08.05, snx)
Since the main reason for the performance gain seems to be to avoid the use of gradients, Oliver Hummel has released new MUI settings at MorphZone. Because of a minor mistake in the original settings for Oliver's Cyberstorm skin it is recommended for its users to download these new settings, too.

Alternatively, our reader Jean Holzammer suggests to avoid using skins at all and force the original look of Intuition instead. To do so, you have to rename (or delete) the skins directory in both SYS:Prefs and MOSSYS:Prefs.

Update 2: (22:38, 28.08.05, snx)
Another hint has been posted by 'rzookol' - according to him, the missing font vera.ttf in the mossys:fonts/_ttf directory is also a reason for a lower performance of the PowerUp version. As a solution, you can rename a copy of the font verase.ttf: "copy sys:morphos/fonts/_ttf/verase.ttf sys:morphos/fonts/_ttf/vera.ttf". Pegasos owners can copy the missing font from their corresponding MorphOS installation. (snx) (Translation: wk)

Microsoft (E-mail)

10 years Windows 95
On August the 24th, 1995 Windows 95 replaced MS-DOS with a simple to use graphical user interface and a fast system kernel. Contemporaneous Office 95 had been released and the Microsoft Network service (MSN) has been lauched.

Windows 95 was based on 32 bit technolgy and replaced the MS-DOS extension Windows 3.x. Thus, the PC evolved to an universal work tool and conquered the digital household. This version became the most successfull software of its time for business and private customers. The new features included the start button with its embedded menu, long file names and internet connectivity usind TCP/IP of the integrated MSN client. Thus, Windows 95 was anticipating many imortant developments. A similar big step for the IT will be the coming release of Windows Vista.

Today Windows, as a former concurrent system to the Amiga, plays an important role for the Amiga scene providing a base for the Amiga emulator WinUAE. (nba) (Translation: ub)

MorphOS 1.4.5 Free Edition for PowerUP Amigas

Five Year Anniversary - MorphOS 1.4.5 Free Edition for PowerUP Available

24th August, 2005 - The MorphOS development team would like to celebrate the five year anniversary of the first ever publically available MorphOS release by announcing the immediate availability of MorphOS 1.4.5 Free Edition for PowerUP accelerators by phase5 & DCE.

By releasing the latest end user version of MorphOS for PowerPC-equipped Commodore A1200, A3000 and A4000 computers, the OS is brought back to its origins. Prior to creating versions for the bPlan PEGASOS and various embedded hardware platforms, development started out on the forementioned computers by Commodore Business Machines and resulted in a first beta version to be released in August 2000.

For information about supported hardware configurations, installation instructions and the actual download location, please visit

http://powerup.morphos-team.net

Please note that the MorphOS Development Team is unable to provide direct end user support for this specific version of MorphOS. If you encounter any problems, please use the PowerUP forum on MorphZone to ask for help and support.

http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewforum.php?forum=42

We sincerely hope you enjoy the Free Edition of MorphOS 1.4.5 and would like to welcome you soon as regulars on a MorphOS community website.

Thank you for your interest,
The MorphOS Development Team (cr)

AmigaOS 4: Drum-Computer RockBEAT 1.1
RockBEAT is a simple software drum machine (Screenshot) for AmigaOS 4. It is a tool for musicians that allows you to create drumming tracks. It can create multiple tracks, each one being 4x 4/4 measures with 16th notes. You can save individual tracks as wav files, or the whole thing as one big song. You can drop in your own 16bit 44100Hz PCM WAV samples in the drumsamples/ folder if you like. The new version 1.1 is out now including several fixes.

Changes in detail:
  • No more grim reaper alerts when starting then stopping playback quickly I removed an AbortIO() call that wasnt really needed.
  • Theres no more excess silence at the end of wav files for individually saved tracks.
  • Button graphics are freed up when quitting now.
  • All message ports are emptied and deleted when quitting. No more "unfreed signals" error messages now, and I think it has brought up stability a little.
  • Drum samples limit changed to 20. It used to crash after more than 10 samples were loaded due to a silly programming error. i.e. looping up to 20 times when there were only 10 available spaces in the array.
  • Adding new samples to the drumsamples/ folder will no longer make old projects invalid.
  • Better compatibility with some WAVs. RockBEAT used to assume a certain WAV header value was a always certain size, but I've found out it can be different.
  • I have included a cool cymbal sample to the default drumsamples/set.
The demo is restricted to 10 minutes. If you like it, you can purchase a keyfile from the author for $15 USD. (nba)

PBEM game: Tamar needs new land! (VI)
The Massive Multiplayer PBEM game 'Tales of Tamar' will be extended by another area of land. The following announcement is taken from the game's forum:

For the sixth time, we start our event 'Tamar needs new land!'. - Once again, all of Tamar has been settled, and new land has to be found for new realms.

Don't miss that opportunity! It will take place on September 1st, only 10 days from now. Start with other players under equal conditions, and show that your a contender for the rank of emperor!

Explore regions of Tamar that no man has set foot on before. Meet unique challanges like dragons, undead and other creatures, and prove yourself in the contest with other human players.

Hint 1:
Our price of 500 Euro for the first emperor among the realms created after January 1st 2005 has still not been claimed. (You'll find the detailed rules in the ToT forum).

Hint 2:
If you enter the keyword "Shareware" in the field for the serial number while registering, you can start playing for free. A turn fee will only apply once you got deeper into the game. Also please add the remark that you want to start on September 1st.

Hint 3:
Since the clients for Mac OS and Linux are also playable on the same world, we need some beta testers for these systems.

Wishing you a lot of fun,
with best regards,
Your ToT-Team & Wolfen (snx)

Genesi: Support for the AMCC 440EP Yosemite board (Update)
Press release Genesi is pleased to announce that it will provide under license the Pegasos hardware abstraction layer and IEEE 1275 compliant Open Firmware (HAL/OF) for the recently released AMCC 440EP Yosemite Board.

The Pegasos HAL/OF approach brings with it immediate GNU/Linux kernel support as well as support from a growing number Linux distributions, including Debian, Gentoo, YDL, Ubuntu, CruxPPC, Montavista and Fedora. An OpenSolaris PowerPC port is also underway. The Pegasos HAL/OF has been used and is being used to support PowerPC-based platforms from Freescale, IBM and now AMCC.

Genesi recently participated in the first European meeting of Power.org held at the Barcelona Super Computer Center. At the Event the Pegasos HAL/OF approach was discussed as a potential standard for PowerPC based boards to speed system enablement.

"Already, companies like Genesi USA Inc. are building PowerPC processor-based systems using the IEEE 1275 Open Firmware model to bring PowerPC technology, flexibility, and efficiency to the desktop, low-end server, home entertainment, and pervasive computing markets at an affordable price. The hardware abstraction layer of the PegasosPPC has been integrated into the mainline GNU/Linux kernel and includes an x86 emulation extension which allows generic PC-based components to be used."

The Pegasos HAL/OF approach enables the vast software resources currently available on the Open Desktop Workstation to be shared with other PowerPC-based platforms. The Open Desktop Workstation is a CHRP compliant platform based on the Pegasos and composed of standard PC components. The Pegasos HAL/OF provides a logical successor to the CHRP standard replacing hardware dependent code with API callbacks to an abstraction layer that provides a common interface to operating systems and/or applications as required.

Update: (18:51, 23.08.05, snx)
At linuxdevices.com you can find a photo and an article about the Yosemite board. (snx)

Kick Off 2: World Cup 2005 in Germany
The 5th official Kick Off 2 World Cup is coming to Germany. It takes place from November 12th to 13th, 2005, in Cologne. After England, Holland, Greece and Italy had the honor of hosting before, it is Jörg "Panni" Pansen and Sascha Weigelmann who organise this big event in 2005. They expect guests from all over Europe and as the hosting country they hope that a lot of fellow countrymen join them in the games, partying and finally battle for the World Cup title.

The official forum to the WorldCup is at . On this forum there are - sometimes rather vivid ;) - discussions concerning the rules and all kinds of Kick Off related topics.

Kick Off 2 is a computer based football game from the company Anco back from the year 1990, which was mainly successful on the Commodore Amiga and the Atari ST. The game is still fascinating today because of its rapid gameplay and the unique way of steering, where it needs real skill to control the ball. The fun while playing is enormous and even so many years after the release there is a giant fanbase. (snx) (Translation: nba)

Feelin: Patch for beta version 050819
Olivier Laviale has released a patch for the recently published beta version 050819 of his object-oriented system Feelin (amiga-news.de reported).

The patch does fix the following bugs:

1. dos.library/DupLockFromFH() does not work with WinUAE virtual volumes (and maybe large disks). Because the function was used by FC_Document, Feelin was unable to read XML files, which result in an empty preference editor. This is fixed now.

2. "Prefs" has not been linked properly, resulting in a crash when the program ended. This is fixed now.

Furthermore, one person reported a dimension problem: the preference editor window was too big, ~1500 pixels. The author would like anyone to contact him who has experienced the same issue.

Commodity: Dragon imitates draggable screens (update)
Dragon from #AmigaZeux is a little program, wich imitates the function of Amiga's screendragging under CyberGraphX (Screenshot, Video).

With the left mousebutton the front screen can be pulled down and sideways to have a look at the screen behind. A click of the right mousebutton switches to this screen. Moreover a GUI offers certain options.

Download: Dragon.lha (62 KB)

Update: (12:01, 22.08.05, snx)
Meanwhile the version 1.1 is available under the same download link.

Besides a general code cleanup the old Mode-ID is reused and the BestModeID is skipped if the screen to be opened has the same depth as the minimum required depth.

Moreover the indication of the version in the OpenLibrary()-function call was corrected: Minimum required is V41 of the cybergraphics.library and not V42, as mistakenly mentioned. (snx) (Translation: ts)

  • Flexible access control list, with multiple passwords with different settings. You can for example disable mouse, keyboard and clipboard for users who don't know the password for full access. You can allow or deny any IP/Mask
  • Realtime Settings: Change setting and the change takes action immediately. Settings are saved automagically when VNC Server is quit
  • Extensive security features: By default will prompt local user to accept/reject incoming connections. Also, only LAN connections are allowed by default
  • Logical view of connected clients, with possibility to disconnect (Kick) or block and disconnect (Kickban) selected client or all connected clients
  • Support for Remote FrameBuffer (RFB) protocol upto version 3.8
  • Clipboard support: You can copy text between server and client
  • DisplayBeep support: The client 'bell' event it sent when DisplayBeep occurs
  • Support for ZLib compression with conforming clients (MorphVNC and TightVNC for example). Using ZLib enabled client is highly recommended
  • Support for framebuffer resize extension with conforming clients (RealVNC, TightVNC and probably other modern clients)
  • Support for screen swap: All screens are displayed properly (Palette indexed screen support is not fully finished in current version: Palette changes are not promoted to clients, and mouse pointer can appear with weird colours. Clients that don't support framebuffer resize extension will only display left-top part of the larger screens)
  • Support for local mouse pointer extension for faster client mouse pointer movement
  • No slow full screen polling, but instead implements intelligent routines to detect display changes. There is very little system load when display is idle
  • Fully asynchronous design with advanced state engine. There are no blocking operations, so connected clients will continue to run normally even if other clients attempt to connect or if settings are being changed
Update: (11:55, 15.08.05, snx)
Meanwhile, version 1.0RC3 has been released at the title link. The update does fix the bug of not being able to load disabled state of some options. (snx)

Report of the PUSH 2005.2 / Interview with Genesi (English)
Kristian 'Ironfist' Eklund has published an English report of the PUSH 2005.2 which took place last weekend under the title link. At the third PowerPC party there were Pegasos computers as well as AmigaOnes and Macs.

The Altivec speech by David Holm as well as the release of the MorphOS program SnapIt and of the Linux program Mupper were the highlights of the event.

Additionally Bill Buck from Genesi was interviewed via IRC. There he confirmed that the "Pegasos 2.5" is a reference board made by Freescale called HPC I (High Performance Computer) and HPC II.

As the CPU cards for the Pegasos probably the processor MPC7448 will be used instead of the MPC7447A. A new Pegasos generation will be introduced with the MPC8641.

Genesi hoped that there will be a sales version of the Efika-board at the end of the year. But this was a question of the available capital. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Russian development of a ColdFire accelerator preliminary stopped
Another trial, the development of a ColdFire based accelerator card for the Amiga, was nearly unknown, apparently because of a language barrier. You can find the Turbo-CF project of Vladimir 'Vovanius' under the titlelink.

Because of the lack of money for the production start of the board the ColdFire-project is preliminary stopped sine last month. But they want to use the time to develop a PowerPC based accelerator board. (snx) (Translation: ts)
