individual Computers: Software updates
Press release: We're providing a hotfix for the Catweasel drivers that corrects writing of Amiga-disks. The only updated file is the Imagetool, please only use it with the latest beta-drivers V2.3.0.0. Download: imagetool_hotfix.zip (77,6K). Caution: This hotfix has only been tested with Amiga-disks!

Oliver Achten has done a lot of work on the MMC64: Since MMC- and SD-cards with a capacity of more than 4G are already available, MMC64 now supports the FAT32 filesystem. This more modern filesystem also has advantages on smaller flashcards, because most C64-files are so small that FAT16 will only waste a lot of space. The new BIOS also made updates on the plugins necessary, most plugins experienced a complete re-write, the old plugins will be updated shortly and can currently only be used with FAT16. The MP3-plugin can now playback whole directories as playlists, the AVF-plugin plays an MMC64-proprietary video format that also utilizes the MP3@64 module. The Picture-plugins have also been updated and they are available in version 1.3 on our support page. An example video file in AVF-format is also located there, because we don't have a converter for your videos yet.

Peter Wendrich has made major updates to the C64-core for the C-One in the past few months. The interrupt behaviour of the CPU has been corrected, a bug in sprite display in the lower screen area has been removed, and the timing-behaviour of the CIA-chips has been implemented according to the results of Peter's detailed research. The new core is available in the download-area of the C-One Webseite. (cg) (Translation: cg)

Photos from a Polish MorphOS 2.0 presentation
The clues are increasing that the next version of MorphOS should carry the version number 2.0 and the time to the release must no longer be counted in years, but in months: As yet unconfirmed rumors have it that Jacek "Jacadcaps" Piszczek has made a MorphOS 2.0 presentation at the Polish event Amimajówka 2007.

Those who inspect the photos from the event more closely, will actually discover some improvements: For example, semitransparent windows or screenshots from a TCP stack can be seen, among other things. (cg) (Translation: cad)

Law Suit Amiga vs. Hyperion: First Claims from Hyperions lawyers
In the law suit Amiga Inc. vs. Hyperion Hyperion's lawyers have made their first declaration. The claims and declarations as well as the other court files are available on the net:

hyperionobjectshow_case_doc.pdf
amigakinselnotappshow_case_doc.pdf
hyperionaffservshow_case_doc.pdf
hyperioncertservshow_case_doc.pdf
kinselsupdecshow_case_doc.pdf
hyperiondeckinsellshow_case_doc.pdf

Hyperion's lawyers are mentioning only formal juristic problems without giving a statement to the descriptions and claims of Amiga Inc.'s complaint: During the commencement of proceedings Amiga has applied for an "expedited discovery" - this is an expedited procedure whereas the accused party is only given a period of ten days instead of 30 for answering the items of the charging party.

Hyperion argues that the requirements for this "expedited discovery" would not exist, as they are only allowed in rare exceptions. Obviously Amiga would try to capture Hyperion the possibility of an adequate defence. Further arguments are mentioned that Hyperion wasn't informed in time of the commencement of action - as required by law together with the opening of the proceeding - and the claim wasn't delivered in one of Belgium's national languages but English . Hyperion is complainig this as illegal with a referral of the "Hague Convention for service of process overseas".

Contentwise Hyperion denies Amiga's demands for the intellectual property of AmigaOS 4.0 and announces a vigorous resistance against the accuser's claims. (cg) (Translation: tz)

Thumbnail icons: Eastern 1.6
Stephan Rupprecht's Eastern is an Workbench plugin which displays thumbnail preview icons instead of the default icons for those picture files that do not have own icons.

With the latest version a bug has been removed, which lead to a creash when started from Workbench with undefined tooltypes. Also the design of the wildcard icon has been changed slightly.

Eastern is available for AmigaOS 3 and OS4 (cg) (Translation: ub)

APC&TCP Celebrates 15th Birthday
Pressrelease APC&TCP Celebrates 15th Birthday We have overlooked it nearly. APC&TCP got 15 years old this year. Being as active as in the beginning. Currently we have a survey for a reprint of the AmigaOS 3.9 book and the English Amiga Guru Book. New versions of Desert Racing and AmiATLAS are in the works, MTRechnung for OS4 will be released soon and some other projects are close to their release. Meanwhile we have adopted the English print magazine Total Amiga and on 5th July the first English version of the Amiga Future is going to be released. By the way the Amiga Future will get 10 years old this year. To celebrate a little we have reduced many prices in our online shop permanently. Quite recently we have dropped the price for an subscription of the Amiga Future to foreign countries. The price for shipping and handling to foreign countries has been reduced aswell. Even though the postal office raised prices for it by 50 percent starting from 1st January. This way we hope to get some more subscribers for the Amiga Future to secure the future of the magazine in a long term. (snx) (Translation: aj)

Alfred Faust (ANF)

MIDI-Sequencer: BarsnPipes New 1.26
Alfred Faust has a new version of the Multimedia-MIDI-Sequencers BarsnPipes published. This update fixes all Problems which are reported to the author, among others:
  • If the synchronisiation is not selected it is now really deactivated.
  • All GUI pics are reintegrated into the main program. The possibility, to create own GUIs was used only very rare. The loading procedure takes a big amount of time. Because of the rare used nice "Skinability"-feature I've decided, to remove it again. This reduces the start-time of the program very much.
  • Now 3 different Versions are available for OS3.0 or higher a 32-color-GUI (for AMIGAs with graphics-card), for OS3.0 or higher a 8-color-GUI (for AMIGAs without graphics-card) and for OS2.1 8-color-GUI (ONLY for OS2.1)

Hyperion comment on their dispute with Amiga Inc
Press release:
Leuven, Belgium - May 1, 2007.

Whilst it is not Hyperion Entertainment's policy to comment on ongoing litigation, we would like to reassure our customers (whom we wish to thank for their very numerous notes of support following the news) that development of AmigaOS 4.0 related components is still ongoing and will continue apace during the duration of the litigation with Amiga Inc.

Following over 18 months of unproductive negotiations with Amiga Inc. through our management and attorneys, we welcome the opportunity to finally present our case in a court of law which was regrettably the only remaining avenue after Amiga Inc. repeatedly and consistently stonewalled any attempt to resolve the outstanding issues (including the "Party Pack" and "I am Amiga Club" voucher schemes and the failure to acknowledge the intellectual property rights of third party developers) through mediation and binding arbitration.

Despite the failure of Amiga Inc. to secure access to the Amiga OS 3.5 and 3.9 source-code and indeed the reworked Amiga 3.1 source-code, Hyperion Entertainment has, in the form of Amiga OS 4.0, delivered a product which meets and surpasses all contractual design and development goals (e.g. full Amiga chipset independence), a fact which was previously acknowledged contractually and publicly by Amiga Inc. Under the 2001 agreement with Amiga Inc. Hyperion is entitled to all revenues stemming from distribution of Amiga OS 4.0 irrespective of the execution of the "buy in" clause which relates solely to subsequent versions (Amiga OS 4.1 and beyond).

We will therefore vigorously defend the claim which we consider entirely devoid of substance and we are extremely confident of a favorable outcome.

In closing, we would like to remind dealers and other third parties that distribution of Amiga OS 4.0 without the prior permission of Hyperion VOF and certain third party developers is illegal under EU, US and international copyright legislation and therefore entirely at their own risk. According to Aaron Digulla, initiator of the open source code operating system AROS, the name "Amiga" will be deleted from the project name because of the legal steps of Amiga Inc. against Hyperion.

Because of these reasons the project simply is called "AROS", "AROS Research Operating System" or "AROS Research OS". Of course you can call the project just like you want but in eMails, articles and on websites it should be called "AROS - The AROS Research Operating System". (snx) (Translation: dr)

AROS for AmigaOS: Updates to icon.library and picture.datatype for AfA
Bernd Roesch has released updates to icon.library as well as to picture.datatype for his AmigaOS port of AROS components, "AROS for AmigaOS" (AfA).

With these, it is now possible to employ the Workbench plugin Eastern for generating thumbnail icons under AfA as well (reported by amiga-news.de).

To this end, the icon.library now supports "globalidentify hook," which is required by Eastern as well as by DefIcons. Additionally, the version was changed to V51 and AmigaOS 4 compatibility for reading and writing 24 bit icon data was added.

Version 1.5 of Eastern is required, in addition, when using cache, the Raw option must be set.

The new picture.datatype now supports scaling in the function DT_Readpixelarray, which is also required by Eastern. Also, more 8 bit ILBM images are displayed correctly on a "classic" Amiga with Picasso 96 or CyberGraphX.

Moreover, in 32 and 24 bit images on 16 bit screens, a dithering takes place, so that color gradients as in the original picture.datatype are not visible. In this regard, the author Thilo Köhler thanks for the source code.

The update is rounded off with an extension to the FAQ collection for Eastern and the picture.datatype under CyberGraphX on Amiga computers.

Thumbnail Icons: Eastern 1.5
Stephan Rupprecht's Eastern is a Workbench plugin that automatically displays a thumbnail preview instead of the default icon for images that do not have their own icon. The latest changes:
  • v1.5: added RAW/S option to speed up loading of cached icons
  • v1.4: no longer needs progressive mode for the cache, added WAITUPDATE option
  • v1.3: in 1.2 the cache was limited to Workbench, now all apps are cached. The 68k build of Eastern assumes an OS4 compatible icon.library when the version number of the library is v51 or higher. In this case truecolor icons will be created. internal release

Eastern is available for AmigaOS 3 and 4. (cg) (Translation: cad)

Do It Yourself: Right angled adapter of make DIY
After the right angled adapters for the PCMCIA port of the Amiga 600 and 1200 had no longer been produced for some time, Jörg Thomas has also given thought to a solution to this problem, besides amigakit.com (reported by amiga-news.de).

Under the title link, he describes how he crafted such an adapter by himself, with many photos. (snx) (Translation: cad)

Reissue: PCMCIA right angled adapter for A600/A1200
Those who want to transplant an Amiga 600/1200 in another (tower) case, are often confronted with the problem that the PCMCIA slot lies directly to the case wall and is no longer accessible.

Since the PCMCIA right angled adapters, which were developed for such problem cases, are no longer being produced for years, the British dealer amigakit.com has decided to reissue the product. (cg) (Translation: cad)
