HivelyTracker: Source Code released
HivelyTracker is a tracker based on the AHX-format. AHX was developed in the nineties to be able writing music tracks which sounds like the typical chip sound of the SID (sound chip of the C64).

The source code of version 1.6 was now released. Currently it was only compiled for AmigaOS 4. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Cloanto: Amiga Forever 2010.1.5.0 and C64 Forever 2010.1.5.0
Version 2010.1.5.0 of Cloanto's complete emulation package Amiga Forever fixes three crash conditions reported by users via WinQual submissions and one bug that could lead to duplicate entries in a content list. Furthermore the update improves handling of RP9 files generated by third-party tools such as Simon Mathiassen's RP9 Editor and uses new image resize algorithms for better quality preview thumbnails. This is the 2010.1 "gold" update that also went on the new CD masters.

In parallel also the emulation package C64 Forever has been updated. Below you will find the corresponding press release.

Amiga Forever and C64 Forever 2010.1 Released

Amiga Forever and C64 Forever are the easy to use emulation, preservation and support packages published by Cloanto, Commodore/Amiga developers since the 1980s. Beyond nostalgia, the packages make accessible to a wide audience a wealth of content and history that is engaging yet casual, and which can still teach a few lessons in gameplay.

Features of the new 2010 versions include:
  • Support for new emulated systems (CDTV, CD32, Amiga 600)
  • Extended RetroPlatform Library (more than 20,000 titles) and content recognition code
  • Support for Open RP9 format (packs multiple disk images and configuration in one file)
  • CDTV/CD32 games run directly from original CD media, or from RP9 or ISO images
  • Integrated printing via original Amiga EpsonQ drivers (via emulated printer)
  • Optimizations for "power users" (content cache, performance, etc.)
  • Hundreds of improvements to make the software more powerful and easier to use
For the new CD and printing support we worked closely together with Toni Wilen, so a big thank you again goes to Toni for his help.

The latest versions of Amiga Forever and C64 Forever work side by side to play games directly from a variety of emulation sites, as well as from some types of original media. Content is recognized using the built-in RetroPlatform Library database, which helps identify and automatically start the correct hardware configuration (different PET/CBM models, VIC 20, C64, Amiga, etc.)

In addition to the hundreds of titles which come preinstalled with the software, tens of thousands of games and demoscene productions have been released by their authors for publication on preservation sites. And that's not just C64 or Amiga content, as you can try for yourself...

Some of our original favorites include a Space Invaders clone for the PET 3032 (only 7 KB, download or open to play directly with C64 Forever; scroll down to "space invaders.prg", right after the simpler PET 2001 version) and this Galaga clone (second from top - German page, but software is in English) written in 10 KB of pure machine language.

The above were written almost 30 years ago. With C64 Forever 2010 they can still be click-and-played today - no complex configuration or technical knowledge required. If a more modern system is preferred, Amiga Forever 2010 can recognize, autoconfigure and play most CDTV and CD32 titles (Commodore's Amiga-based game consoles). This includes both original media, and RP9, ISO and .bin/.cue CD image files.

The 2010 versions of Amiga Forever and C64 Forever had originally been released a few weeks ago, and were announced on private forums. Features like the new Open RP9 file format and CD support were so successful among emulation "power users" (who often have thousands of games and gigabytes of CD-based content), that we spent some more time to optimize the experience when the software is used under heavy load. The updated 2010.1 versions, released now and available as free updates to existing 2010 users, reflect this community feedback.

Amiga Forever and C64 Forever passed official Windows 7 logo tests on both x86 and x64 systems. For more information: RetroPlatform Project (snx)

Text viewer: EvenMore 0.69 (2.8.10)
EvenMore is a test viewer written in AmigaE and by Chris Perver. The following features have been added since our last message:
  • Fixed bug which stopped hyperlinks to files outside the EvenMore path from working
  • Amended EvenMore data objects to allow it to handle exec lists as file buffers instead of a standard memory block. This will enable files to be loaded much quicker through plugins, etc. without having to worry about allocating enough memory beforehand
  • Enabled parsebuffer() and getlines() functions to scan through execlists. Optimised code for these routines so hopefully they should be faster too
  • Amended clipboard, printing and file saving routines so they will work with exec lists
  • Modified file search function to send results to the main window, using an exec list as a file buffer
  • Modified Dir2Text plugin to use an exec list as buffer, instead of a standard memory block

Chris Perver's EvenMore is a text viewer written in AmigaE. Changes since the last release:
  • Sped up various parts of the code by moving ListItem() functions out of loops and replacing them with static lists
  • FileTypes.plugin now uses less memory, and doesn't have to scan all of filetypes.txt if a match is found
  • Fixed memory allocation problems in Arc2Text which would cause it to lose file information if you browsed more than one LHA archive
  • Fixed bug in EvenMore which sometimes prevented more than one plugin processing a file
  • Updated HTML2Text plugin to open files viewed through the LHA plugin
  • Arc2Text plugin will now store LHA output in a unique filename in RAM: using the timestamp of the file in question. This will enable the plugin to skip the LHA extraction if the file has been viewed recently.
  • Directories will now be displayed first in the Arc2Text viewer
  • Arc2Text can now extract files and view them by clicking on a file name

AROS: Gallium3D bounty completed
The Gallium3D bounty project by Krzysztof 'deadwood' Smiechowicz has been completed and can be found in the Nightly Builds. The author would like to thank everyone who donated to this bounty as well as members of AROS community who helped him with testing the drivers on their systems.

The project which was started almost one year ago provided the following components:
  • Mesa.library - the latest version of Mesa3D library which implements OpenGL API
  • Gallium.library - a client library allowing other modules to access 3D rendering capabilities. This can be used by clients like OpenGL, OpenVG or OpenCL (in future)
  • Software 3D driver - rendering emulation using CPU. Works on any system where hardware 3D is not available
  • Hardware 3D rendering for nvidia cards - supporting GeForce 5XXX cards and newer provides hardware rendering capabilities
  • As as additional bonus, the bounty brough a new 2D accelerated driver for the complete GeForce family as well as AGP support for some mother board chipsets

OpenSSL 1.0.0a Rev#2
The OpenSSL Project is a collaborative effort to develop a robust, commercial-grade, full-featured, and Open Source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols as well as a full-strength general purpose cryptography library.

The AmigaOS-port is completely native, the ixemul.library is not required. Developer documenations are part of the distribution. The latest version "Rev#2" includes some minor improvements:
  • Compiled using GCC 3.4.0 for better speed (please report any issue, i didn't trust so much this compiler)
  • Optimized bzero/bcopy/memmove/memcpy functions to achieve a somewhat faster speed. (libnix)
  • Implemented alarm() to perform the tests, we'll no longer have to wait those long times
  • Time spent on speed tests are now calculated using ReadEClock()
  • OPENSSL_assert() will now open a ReAction/Intuition requester (usefull for WB-only progs)
  • Enabled MD2 and RC5 which was disabled by default..
  • Added 68040 build (user and dev)
  • Added new set of root certificates
  • Included Installation script

AmigaOS 4: ffmpeg 0.6
The latest version 0.6 of the program ffmpeg is now available as common and Altivec-optimized version (as gpatch-file) for AmigaOS 4.

Sine the last version for AmigaOS 4 the following formats were added: Deluxe-Paint-animationa, CD-graphics, Apple Core Audio, Chinese AVS-video, Adobe film strip, Dolby TrueHD, Sony Wave64, Psygnosis YOP, VP8-Video, WMA 9 Professional, Blu-Ray-Audio, DivX-subtitle, the WebM file format, RTMP-stream support and many more.

According to the author Michael Trebilcock ffmpeg could run under AmigaOS 4.0. But ffplay requires a fast processor as well as probably AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1.

x264 encoding is broken and has bad quality, but has been included anyway. It may work properly on machines with Altivec support. This is yet to be tested..

ffmpeg 0.6 and libx264 revision 100 have incompatible default settings. Due to this, .ffpreset files can be used and are included. libx264 encoding was not available in the previous OS4 port. No functionality has been lost.

Software-News: EvenMore 0.68, Amiga Media Center Preview-Video

Text viewer: EvenMore 0.68 (5.7.10)

Chris Perver's EvenMore is a text viewer written in AmigaE. Changes since our last message:
  • Amended EvenMore executable to allow you to pass an extra filename on to the plugins. If you click on a link beginning with a #, EvenMore will pass this link on to the plugins along with the path to the currently opened file. This will allow EvenMore plugins to browse inside archives while still keeping a note of the actual file being accessed.
  • Amended Arc2Text.plugin to browse LHA files, although there are still some bugs, the code needs to be optomised and files cannot yet be extracted.
  • Fixed bug in filetypes plugin. Was incorrectly using pattern string as the buffer as well for the pattern parsing function.
  • Created a basic LHA viewing plugin and preferences. You will need to delete the #?.lha filetype from the filtypes.txt file in order for this plugin to work.
  • Hyperlinks to files no longer needs full path to be specified. EvenMore will append the path of the currently viewed file to any linked files. Also amended Dir2Text plugin so that it does not use full paths any more. This should speed things up.
  • Mariusz Danilewicz of the ATO team has kindly updated the Polish catalog.
  • Removed patternStringF module and replaced with my own RawDoFmt() code.

XPro Software: Interested in Amiga-version of texture collections? (Update)
The Italian developer XPro Software is thinking about an Amiga version of his texture libraries about materials, sky, trees and trees from the bird's-eye view if there is sufficient interest.

By request of amiga-news.de, XPro Software told that such a Amiga version would not only include IFF-conversions and a "cover in Amiga style" but would also do not cost so much money in order to promote applications on Amiga systems.

The company tries to find out if there is a demand of professional applications in the sections graphics, construction, architecture and 3D.

If you are interested in such an Amiga version of the texture collection of XPro Software then please use the following contact form.

Update: (19:14, 04.07.10, snx)
As XPro Software told us, in case of sufficient interest in the Amiga market for their products also porting of their applications GeniuX Photo EFX and GeniuX Arch EFX (without DWG support) as well as two further programs currently in development might be possible. 3D GeniuX, however, would be too big to be ported to AmigaOS, MorphOS or AROS currently.
