AmigaOS 4: First upgrade for ignition-OpenDocument support
In December Achim Pankalla released an extension for the spreadsheet ignition, which added the option of reading and writing OpenDocument files (amiga-news.de reported). This format is used by LibreOffice and OpenOffice-Calc, but also can be imported and exported by any other spreadsheets.
Version 0.20 of this addon now provides a first update of the functions and some bugs fixes. ignition 1.0 beta4 and AmigaOS 4.1 FinalEdition are required.
For this addon still is a beta version, the author asks for your comments, bug reports and possible updates for functions. Please write them in the forum of OS4Welt.

External HDMI-converter D520 in development
Thorsten Schubert is working on a device, which converts the analogue video signal of the Amiga as well as the sound into a digital signal in order to make it possible using current monitors with a HDMI-port. The external module will be connected to the video port of the Amiga.

Hollywood: Graphics library G2D 1.8
Fabio 'Allanon' Falcucci's G2D (demo video) is a graphics library for Hollywood programmers, which provides commands, objects and methods for manipulating 2D-graphics and offers a skinning system. G2D also is used in Falcucci's GUI-system HGUI.

AmigaOS4: eNewsReader R1
Chris Handley's commercial "eNewsReader" follows RSS and Atom feeds as well as Twitter and Facebook acounts but "you will need to give eNewsReader permission to access your Timeline posts on Facebook."
Currently you can download a "trial" version from the website of the author which is not limited. After a certain period of time and the amount of downloaded files, the author will decide how much the full version of eNewsReader will cost.

Hollywood: RapaGUI 1.1

OpenStreetMap viewer: MUIMapparium evaluation version 0.1

Trademark: Application of new "Commodore" refused
Two years ago, Italian Massimo Canigiani tried to have the mark "Commodore" registered in the European trademark registry using his UK based company "Commodore Business Machines Ltd.". Although the design of Canigiani's mark was pretty much identical to the famous original mark - which is still listed as active in the very same EU trademark registry - he hoped to get away with this by applying for registration in a different procduct area (smartphones). But this hope has been dashed: The owner of the original trademark successfully appealed against Canigiani's application last autumn.

AmigaOS 4: File manager Dir Me Up 3.2.0
Jérôme 'Glames' Senays' commercial file manager "Dir Me Up" (video) among others offers browsing history and preview images or thumbnails. Amiga Inc. loses US trademark, new registrations from Cloanto and Hyperion
For years, Amiga, Inc. has been losing registered trademarks (examples: 1, 2) since expiring registrations were not renewed in time - but so far, only duplicate registrations or less important marks ("powered by Amiga") had been affected. On December 31 the final deadline for extending the registration of the only remaining US "Amiga" trademark expired: for a short period of time, the term was not a registered mark in the United States.
It looks like Italian software developer Cloanto, who acquired most of the Amiga copyrights in 2012, has been following these developments closely: On January 2 - i.e. the first working day after Amiga, Inc's trademark expired - Cloanto
applied for the "Amiga" trademark. The company already owns the registered US marks "Workbench" and "Amiga Forever".
It seems that Hyperion was not as alert: It took them until February to apply for their own marks. According to the information available so far, Hyperion did not try to dispute Cloanto's application for the "Amiga" mark, the Belgium company responsible for AmigaOS 4 applied for AmigaOS, BoingBall and AmigaOne. These trademarks, which had not or no longer been registered before, were originally licensed to Hyperion in the 2009 settlement agreement with Amiga, Inc. - apparently Hyperion's management operates under the assumption that Amiga, Inc. will be unable or uninterested in defending these marks after losing the more important "Amiga" mark.
After losing the US Amiga mark, the most important trademark registration still owned by Amiga, Inc. (list of US and European Amiga marks) is probably the registration of the "AMIGA" trademark with the European Intellectual Property Office, which expires in May 2018. This registration covers all of Europe, including countries like Germany or the UK - where the local "Amiga" registrations have already expired aswell.
Note from the editor: In all public trademark databases, Amiga, Inc's original Amiga trademark is still listed as active - trademark offices usually take several months to update their databases once a mark expires. But the entry in the US Patent and Trademark Office's database (search for serial number 73571532) features a section labeled "TSDR" which has a "Documents" tab containing a list of submitted documents - the most recent one is dated 2006 - and a "Maintainance" tab offering a pretty definite statement regarding missing documents.

Virtual Amiga Multimedia Player 1.70
V.A.M.P. (Virtual Amiga Multimedia Player) is a video and sound player written with Hollywood. Version 1.70 is available for AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS and Windows and was compiled with Hollywood 7. A Greek translation was added and the Polish one improved. Besides, the archive contains some new skins created by Czesiu Mnich.

PDF magazine: REV'n'GE 73 (Italian/English)
The PDF-magazine REV'n'GE ("Retro Emulator Vision and Game") is available in Italian as well as in an English-language translation. REV'n'GE compares and reviews games on vintage computers.
Among others the latest issue includes articles about the Amiga games "Indigo", "The Three Musketeers" and "International Karate 2013".

New Elbox tower case: BlackBOX 1200
Sinse the older tower cases of Elbox have not been available, the company now presents the third generation of A1200 towers: In a "BlackBOX 1200" an A1200 with accelerator board and Mediator or GRex busboard can be put and is available for 300 Euro (plus shipping).

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.5.0 (alpha)
RedPill is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - published videos show versions of Pacman and Pang. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires 1 MB Chip as well as some Fast RAM.
For the program currently there is only a closed Facebook group, but the authors also can be contacted via eMail. The latest alpha version can be downloaded via Google Drive.
Changes in version 0.5.0:
- Main feature of this release is that now it uses advanced scrolling implementation. This will allow RedPill games to make use of larger maps in the future v0.5.x versions. It also allows RedPill to use less ChipRam. This could lead to some bugs that will be fixed in next versions. Look at ScrollingTrick in Aminet to know more about the implementation
- Now multiple tile changes can happen in every frame
- Object rendering has been changed too, BBlits are no longer used
- Projects now have a target frame rate in the Game Setup screen: 50 fps, 25 fps, 17 fps, 12 fps. Default is 25 fps
- Angular phyics have been redone with a more robust implementation. Shot type objects now can follow the same direction of the object Instantiating them
- Collisions have been changed again to be more optimal and perfect.A side effect is that ramp collisions are lost in this version, they will be back soon
- Frame offsets have been added: Now you can modify the display offset by frame
- Grid slice has been optimized, now shapes are trimmed to its visible size
- Animations are now changed once per frame and now everytime a PlayAnim trigger is triggered
- Stop Anim trigger does not need a parameter anymore
- Global air friction has been added
- Friction now works as it should, 1 means full friction and 0 means no friction at all
- Temp files that are stored on ram: when playing from editor now use a common name
- Debug info removed from tile properties screen
- File names in tileset menu and sprites menu are truncated if length of name is too big
- Fixed a bug that made not possible to modify condition parameters in lines 2-5
- Fix in calculate map dimensions
- RedPill(Debug).exe renamed to RedPillEditor(Debug).exe

Picasso96 sold to Individual Computers and Hyperion Entertainment (Update)
According to Alexander Kneer and Tobias Abt under the title link, they have decided "to sell the Picasso96 intellectual property to a joint ownership between Hyperion Computer Entertainment and Individual Computers GmbH (Jens Schönfeld)."
They also wrote: "Hyperion and Individual Computers have assured us that they will continue to support both the classic Amiga and next generation systems as well. They plan to integrate P96 into upcoming new OS releases."

In a statement on a1k.org (German, requires registration), Jens Schönfeld from Individual Computers explains that the Picasso96 distribution on Aminet will remain available and is still freely distributable. AROS: A week in AROS (from 27.03.2017)
Additional to his work on AROS, since September 2014 Krzysztof 'deadwood' Śmiechowicz summarizes the latest progresses and developments of the AROS-programmers for every week. A year later he also published monthly highlights until November 2016. On 2 April Krzysztof Śmiechowicz announced that he is going to take a break from AROS. The last entry of "A week in AROS" which he wrote was published on 3 April.
Now Oliver 'o1i' Brunner continues the summaries. We would take this opportunity to again report about the open source AmigaOS clone every week.

Anim player und converter: RNOAnim 1.0
RNOAnim "is a compact animation player that also has some conversion and editing functions." The program was written with Hollywood and has the following features:
- MUI-GUI (MUI Royale)
- Internal loaders: IFF, GIF, AVI (uncompressed/MJPEG)
- Included plugins: APNG, FLI/FLC, YAFA
- Can save (convert) to: GIF, APNG, and AVI (MJPEG)
- Can export frames to PNG images
- Animations can be resized freely by resizing the window
- Several options to alter the playback speed
- Animation frames can be added, inserted, or removed
- All changes (size, speed, frames) will be saved when saving a new animation
- Drag & drop loading
- Extensive ARexx support
- Keyboard and mouse controls

WHDLoad: Version 18.3 and new installers until 08.04.2017

Web-Browser: Release of IBrowse 2.5 might come closer
For more than ten years the website of the internet browser IBrowse as well as its programmer Oliver Roberts has been pointing out to a forthcoming version 2.5 of the programm, if any kind of problems or necessary updates were addressed. Many users gave up hope that IBrowse -which also cannot be purchased for almost ten years - that an update will be released.
Now the website of the browser has been updated: " As we move closer towards a new IBrowse release, we've updated the FAQ a little and uploaded an unedited history log of all the changes made since IBrowse 2.4 was released (these will both be updated at various times in the future as development continues)." A precise date of a forthcoming version 2.5 is not mentioned in the FAQ, but it is said that "various stumbling blocks have been removed".
Mainly IBrowse 2.5 will provide minor improvements and adaptions to current MUI versions. Additionally, AmiSSL 4 is supported. If the update will be available for free "has yet to be decided".

An update for the menu of the accelerator board ACA500plus developed by Individual Computers is available.
- New feature: User ROM name support, start offset changed. User ROMs must be re-flashed

- Fix: launching a profile (=bypassing the menu) on power-up does not crash any more

Jérôme 'Glames' Senays' commercial file manager "Dir Me Up" (video) among others offers browsing history and preview images or thumbnails. Version 3.10 provides some handling improvements and bug fixes.

AnimWebConverter 2.70
AnimWebConverter is a little tool for AmigaOS 3/4 and MorphOS written with Hollywood, which can convert IFF animations of the Anim or Yafa format into animated GIF and PNG files. Changing the size of the pictures is possible as well. In version 2.70 some bugs have been fixed.

amiga.net.pl announced English magazine "Amiga User"
The publisher amiga.net.pl is more focused on the English-language market. After an AMIGA OS 3.9 User's manual, an English-language printed magazine is supposed to be published.
The first issue "Amiga User 0/2017" will be delivered in July and features 90 pages, which will be printed in colour. The digital version is available for 4 Euro, a printed magazine for 9 Euro plus shipping, which also includes a free download of the e-book.

MorphOS: Aquaria 1.1.3
The port of the MorphOS version of the commercial 2D action adventure Aquaria developed by Bit Blot was updated. Additional to original game, all updates are required (look at the download links).
Robert 'Phibrizzo' Krajcarz and Filip 'widelec' Maryjanski, supported by "False.Genesis", have updated the port of MorphOS which now loads faster, has an improved add-on manager and a bug fixed volume control.

Amiga France: New french Amiga website
A new Amiga and Commodore 64 website in french language has been launched. Contents are news, interviews and tutorials as well as forums for discussions and sales. Each month there is also a poll and a game challenge (currently on Test Drive 1). Furthermore FTP access for members and a YouTube channel are announced.
Some redactional parts will also be translated into english language as it has been done already for an interview with "Paula Powered", a digital punk rock band that utilizes an Amiga 1200 on stage.

In October Hyperion released the port for AmigaOS-4 of the strategy roleplay game Gorky 17 on CD. Now you can purchase a download version for a discount price of 24,95 Euro directly at Hyperion.
Additionally there is reworked installation script in the download area of Hyperion for purchasers of the CD version, which fixes problems of the installation of the game under the Final Edition of AmigaOS 4.1.

Hollywood 7: Eternity available
Press release: In the year of Hollywood's 15th anniversary, Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are back on your screen with Hollywood 7: Eternity. Hollywood 7.0 is a massive update with many new features and bug fixes.

MorphOS: AutoVisible.sbar
Thomas Igracki has created a screenbar module for Ambient called AutoVisible.sbar. On MorphZone the author wrote:
"If you are using an AutoScroll screen (where the real width of the screen is greater than the visible width) and it annoyed you that not all sbar modules, especially the clock;) are visible if you are "working" on the left side of the screen, then you should my new screenbar module!
If the "left" side of such a screen is visible, then some of the screenbar modules aren't visible in the titlebar because they are adjusted to the right and therefore (partially) in the invisible area.
AutoVisible.sbar adds an extra empty space (depending on the position of the screen) to the titlebar, to have all your sbar modules in the visible area. Well, only if you are not having that many modules, that they don't fit into the visible area;)"

AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS: Ask Me Up XXL 3.0.7
Jérôme 'Glames' Senay's 'Ask Me Up' is a one to five player quiz game for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and Windows featuring 17000 questions in 17 categories. A demo version containing 80 questions is available for free.
In 3.0.7 two new game modes were added ("Quiz" and "Survival", the previous Quiz mode now is named "Studies") and the display of the online highscore has been reworked. Additionally, some graphics have been exchanged and graphic bugs fixed.
200 questions have been reworked as well and two new add-ons are available: "Girls Band" includes two new avatars for the players and is available for free. And for 3.99 Euro you can purchase the "Multitheme #1", which is a collection of 400 new questions in 15 different categories.

AROS: Vector graphics program ZuneFIG 1.3.343

Shoot'em Up: RESHOOT R in development
Richard Löwenstein is working on a sequel of his commercial bullet hell shooter RESHOOT which was released last summer. Some screenshots of a prototype have been published on the Patreon website of the project. The final release is meant to be available in October 2017.

Successful Kickstarter campaign for book of David Pleasance, Interview
A few days ago David Pleasance, CEO of Commodore UK from 1983 to 1995, had announced a book about his time at Commodore, which will be crowdfunded. Meanwhile the Kickstarter project was started. So far 25.289 £ of the aim of 25.000 £ were donated and thus successfully financed. The E-Book "Commodore: The Inside Story" will cost about 17 Euro and the printed book about 34 Euro.
Corresponding issue 29 of Krzysztof Radzikowski's podcast "Amicast" has interviewed Pleasance, recordrd at the Amiga Ireland MeetUp.

WHDLoad: New installers until 11.03.2017
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. The following installers have been added until March 11th, 2017:

AmigaOS 4: Update for retro arcade game "Huenison"
Huenison is an arcade game with retro look for AmigaOS 4 and Windows, which according to the developer combines elements of Arkanoid, Decathlon, Dynablaster, Impossible Mission, Oil's Well, Pac-Man, Pang, Qix, Slam Tilt, Space Invaders, Tetris and Vital Light.
The game is available for about 5 US-Dollar. Now an update has been released which provides an improved joypad handling, reworked controls reconfiguration and
minor internal improvements.
