A Laptop featuring preinstalled UAE: A-EON introduces A.L.I.C.E.
In a press release that was apparently meant to be published prior to AmiWest, A-EON is officially announcing the A.L.I.C.E. project:

Press release: Introducing the A.L.I.C.E. Laptop
A Laptop Incorporating a Classic Experience

Sacramento 17th October 2015
A-EON Technology is pleased unveil the A.L.I.C.E. prototype at AmiWest 2015. A.L.I.C.E. is an x86 laptop that boots straight into the AmiKit Classic Amiga environment.

A.L.I.C.E. utilizes ordinary PC Laptop hardware to achieve extraordinary results. A truly immersive "Classic" experience has been created in a modern portable package by leveraging commodity hardware and existing emulation solutions. The core of A.L.I.C.E. is Amiga Forever and the freely available AmiKit software environment running on top of Linux. The Linux environment is completely hidden, but easily accessed if desired.

A.L.I.C.E. also includes a "Rabbit Hole" feature which integrates both Windows and Linux applications into the AmiKit environment. Amiga document and media files now open up in Libre Office, MPlayer, Firefox, etc. In fact any application that can be installed under Linux can be run from the AmiKit workbench. A.L.I.C.E. also provides a platform to easily access AMIStore and all of the upcoming software releases planned for Classic Amiga users. Exclusive add-on features are also planned that will only be available to A.L.I.C.E. users.

Ján Zahurančík, the developer of AmiKit said, “I have been dreaming about a portable Amiga computer ever since my real Amiga desktop could not keep up with my travel plans anymore. The A.L.I.C.E. laptop is the dream come true. Actually, the reality is more beautiful and more feature rich than the dream itself!”

Trevor Dickinson added, "I've always been a big fan of Amiga Forever and the AmiKit distribution but running an Amiga on top of Windows always felt a little clumsy to me. Several years ago I came up with the A.L.I.C.E. concept for a Classic Laptop but it has taken the combined skills and talent of the A.L.I.C.E. team to make the idea a reality. Amazing-ly, not only is A.L.I.C.E. portable it also delivers a lightning fast Classic experience.”

In addition to AmiKit, A.L.I.C.E. Can also boot into standard Linux and Windows environments and can support AmigaOS 4 Classic if the pre-requisite PicassoIV and PowerPC ROMS images are supplied.

The A.L.I.C.E. Team includes Ján Zahurančík (AmiKit), Ken Lester, Toni Wilen, Rex Schilasky, Kevin Saunders, Michael Battilana (Cloanto) and Pat Wall & Trevor Dickinson (A-EON)

Batch processing: SRename 3.10 Beta 1
Using SRename you can rename a lot of files. After a break of 10 years, Constantinos Nicolakakis has started the development again. The first beta version of SRename 3.10 mainly "fixes some bugs of the previous version and improves a bit the command interface by removing a few unneeded instructions and by some other changes." AmigaOS 3.0 and at least a 68020-processor are required.

Preview and pre-order: Wings Remastered Edition (AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS)
Daniel 'Daytona675x' Müßener has released the first playable preview of his Amiga port of Wings Remastered Edition, which was announced at the "Amiga 30" in Neuss. Müßener emphasises, that it is a very early pre-version which has not been sufficiently tested. Besides, some graphics have been not completed and are replaced by placeholders. Speed and the whole quality will be improved until the final version.

Simultaneously with the release of the preview, the Amiga version can be ordered in the online shop of Cinemaware - you have to pay in advance. Cinemaware stated that the game will be released in February 2016. In order to make the Amiga port happen, according to the developer "sufficient pre-orders" are required. He guesses a figure of about 300. If there will be not sufficient pre-orders, the users will get back their money.

While "Wings Remastered Edition" can be purchased at Steam for 15 Euro, the Amiga port costs 55 US-Dollar. But for this money, the game will be delivered in a big box including a printed manual ad a poster.

Ports for AmigaOS 4 with Warp 3D, AmigaOS 4 with RadeonHD-Compositing (for users without 3D-driver), MorphOS and AROS are available. Some graphics bugs which Müßener reduces to bugs in the graphic boards are already known:
  • AmigaOS 4: Warp3D creates some missing polygons in the corner of the screen
  • AmigaOS 4: Compositing should not be used with SouthernIsland and R200 chipsets due to heavy graphics bugs
  • MorphOS: on some systems (e.g. Powerbook Radeon 9700) the lightning of the 3D models does not properly work; the objects appear too dark, the fog has the wrong colour

Playable Previews: Alter Ego, Chase
With the permission of the authors, 'Asman' has ported two Homebrew-NES-games for the Polish "RetroKomp GameDev Compo" to the Amiga. Originally released in 2011 for the ZX Spectrum, in "Alter Ego" the player has to toggle between his character and its second identity to collect all treasures.

"Chase" is a clone of the classic Pacman. In this version the enemies attack the player more determined. In return, the player is even faster then the enemies.

Both games can be quitted with the last mouse buttom. An Amiga 500 with 512 KB RAM is required.

Database: MUIbase 3.2 (AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS)
Steffen Gutmann has released an update of his programmable database MUIbase. Changes in version 3.2:
  • When a project has been changed, a '*' used to be prepended to the window title. This has been replaced by prepending the text 'Changed' instead. In addition, if a project has been locked by another MUIbase instance, the window title is now prepended with 'Locked'. Finally, if there is a newer version of the project on disk, the window title is prepended with 'Old'.
  • Amiga: allow quick search in select-from-where lists similar to how this works in GTK.
  • The programing functions MIN and MAX are now defined over arbitrary data types not just integers and reals numbers.
  • The generation of the user manual has seen an overhaul and unused document formats such as PS and DVI have been removed.
  • Linux: only non-deprecated functions of GTK3 are used now and the color and font choosers have been updated accordingly.
  • Several bug fixes.
