Acquisition of Amiga: Summary of Mike Battilana's speech at Amiga34 (Update)
At the "Amiga 34" in Neuss, Mike Battilana spoke at last. On the timetable he was not announced as "Cloanto" but due to his acquisition of the rights from Amiga Inc. as "Amiga". We want to summarize the most important facts of his speech:

Mike Battilana underlined his efforts of collecting the whole Commodore heritage to establish a reunited company "Commodore-Amiga". Again he suggested the idea of a foundation as a possible legal form for a new "Amiga" parent company as well as to release the source codes of software developed by Commodore.

About all other plans he has to remain discret but probably he could help developers by providing free licences. To be on the safe side, he acquired the domain amiga.com twice - for the first time in the course of Amiga, Inc.'s acquisition but also for the second time from Vince Pfeifer.

He is not offended by AmigaOS 3.1.4 at all but he would have preferred to be released after the lawsuit. Besides, he thinks that it should be available for free because the developers also have not get any money. Finally it should lead to an open source project.

With regard to the legal dispute he has emphasized his interest of coming to an agreement and that he commnunicates with Hyperion's CEO Timothy de Groote daily and meets him on a monthly basis. They were on good terms.

With regard to P96 he explained that in his conversation with Jens Schönfeld a settlement has not been reached but he is glad that they talked and at least could clarify some details. Furthermore he pointed out that he himself would have never spoken about lawsuits. Instead, he would prefer to solve problems quietly.

He has also told how interesting it was having a look at the Commodore documents because the business processes in many ways were ahead of the times. His company has a large archive of internal, electronial Commodore documentation and communication but having an eye to the privacy of the parties involved it would be difficult to make it available. Maybe step by step the archive can be partly published.

Update: (18:23, 02.11.19, snx)
Correction of the final sentence about P96, which had been interpreted more liberally before. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Crowdfunding: Mechanical Amiga-500/1200 keyboards
Similar to the project, announced by the A1200.net team, under the title link the Australian Liwei Guan offers a crowdfunding campaign for mechanical keyboards for the computers Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200.

They are meant as replacements for existing keyboards because the metal carrier and the controller are not included. Additional to the US/UK keycaps also German ones are planned - other languages will be offered if there is sufficient demand. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Real-time strategy game: AI
Samuli Holopainen writes: AI was made for Christiandevs annual Speedgame 2019 competition where it became #1 in both categories of "Best Fun Game" (shared #1) and "Most Original Concept", in which AI scored the maximum score of 5 points. Overall ending however only at #3.

In AI you are in control of an AI sending Robots to kill Humans. There's a catch however, you cant control Robots individually, but you can only control from where and when to send Robots, and what ALL Robots will be targeting at any time and then Robots will themselves decide how to achieve it.

The version sent to the competition is not the same as this release version. This release version is worked a bit further, adding such features as Save Game (autosave), Upgrades, bug fixes, other tweaks, and the possibility to actually complete the game properly.

Notice, however, that this game does need a heavy machine, and no real AmigaOS 3.x machine is able to run this, AmigaOne X1000 or equivalent is recommended. Although if you don't mind a slower speed, then you could play this with some lower spec machines. In addition, there is also a possibility to make the speed faster for slower machines, but this happens with the cost of stability. You might be able to play this with for example lower-spec Sams but prepare for bugs then.

You can check a bit about this game (the competition version) from a video about all Speedgames.

As usual with my games, to support Indiego Appstore, this game will first be available only through Indiego Appstore. But it will be released to Aminet later as well. (snx)

Amiga floppy reader: ADF-Copy 1.012
Dominik Tonn wrote: "ADF-Copy is a small hardware i developed which uses a Teensy 3.2 microcontroller to read and write non copy protected Amiga disks with an out of the box PC 3.5" Floppy drive connected to the microcontroller which can be build with a few jumper wires on a breadboard with no additional component. The low level stuff is handled in the microcontroller which is controlled by a Java application." (amiga-news.de reported).

Version 1.012 provides bug fixes for users of OpenJDK - if you use the original Java then you do not need this update. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Web browser: IBrowse 2.5.1
An update for the web browser IBrowse has been released which fixes some minor problems introduced with version 2.5. Among others now also a native Javascript library is available for MorphOS.
  • Updated Danish, Spanish and Swedish catalogs, by Niels Bache, Javier de las Rivas and Pär Boberg respectively
  • Localised missing strings in spoofing preferences
  • Fixed corruption in built-in MSIE User-Agent strings
  • Tweaked the installer to make 2.5.x upgrades nicer
  • The F5 key can now be used to reload a page
  • JS: MorphOS native javascript.library available again
  • 68k: Handle datatypes that expand 8-bit + transparent colour images to 32-bit RGBA (fixes our 256 colour icons having non-transparent magenta backgrounds in MorphOS)
  • 68k: Full alpha channel support enabled for systems using CyberGraphX V51 or higher (MorphOS)
  • OS4: Enabled 2.5 updates via AmiUpdate (exit IBrowse before performing any updates)
  • Changed the default JPEG decoder swap memory limit from 1Mb to unlimited on OS4 and MorphOS
  • Fixed NOTRANSPARENT tooltype being ignored for GUI images
  • Fixed broken HTTPS proxy functionality, where incorrect hostname was used for SNI
  • Fixed broken MUI 4/5 detection that was causing problems in TextEditField and preventing context-sensitive mouse points from working with MUI 3.x
  • Added some workarounds in the install script so that it doesn't error with the MorphOS installer
  • 68k: Now works again on Workbench 3.0, after incorrect requirement for keymaps.library V39 (Kickstart 3.0 has V37)
  • 68k: Fixed crashes when external modules (e.g. codecs and protocols) fail to load for any reason
For owners of a license of IBrowse 2.5 the update is available for free. Users of AmigaOS 4 also can install the update using AmiUpdate.

A known problem are crashes of AmiSSL 4 on systems having a 68020 or 68030 processor without FPU. The developers hope that this bug will be fixed with the forthcoming version 4.4 of AmiSSL - but have to wait until it is done. Due to changes in the AmiSSL-API afterwards IBrowse 2.5 has to be adapted. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Crowdfunding: Updated 68k back-end for GCC
Currently the Gnu Compiler Collection (GCC) comverts the back-ends - this is the part of the compiler which creates the specific CPU code - to a new model (technical details in GCC-Wiki). The support for the old back-end model will be discontinued soon. This would mean that GCC 11, probably released in 2021, will not provide support for the m68k architecture.

In order to prevent it, at bountysource.com a crowdfunding campaign has been started which is supposed to encourage the developers porting the m68k back-end from GCC to the new model. Currently the funding target is nearly 3500 USD (about 3100 Euro). (cg) (Translation: dr)
