Individual Computers: New power supply units can be preordered
From now on it is possible to preorder new power supply units from Individual Computers for the keyboard Amigas A500, A600 and A1200. The delivery is planned for 10th August. The offered solution consists of a common laptop power supply unit as well as a second unit put between the power supply unit and the computer which is in a C64 module case featuring additional Amiga specific elektronics and the power switch.

According to the developer the "CA-PSU", available for 75 Euro, "is the first power supply on the market that fully complies with the original Commodore specifications, introducing cable drop compensation for best regulation that even settles the voltage drop in the input filter of the target computers. This means that the voltage on the main 5V rail will never deviate more then 0.9%, measured inside the computer - no matter if the computer is in vanilla configuration or heavily expanded. Conventional power supplies will either supply too-high voltage to a vanilla machine, or too-low voltage to an expanded machine, causing malfunction or even defects." (cg) (Translation: dr)

Emulator: WinUAE 4.4.0
Version 4.4.0 of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE has been released.

New features/improvements:
  • 68000 address and bus error (bus errors are not used in Amiga) stack frames are now 100% accurate, including all undefined behavior like partially updated flags or registers. Last missing part that wasn’t fully accurate previously.
  • 68010 emulation is now cycle-accurate. Including loop mode.
  • 68030 MMU emulation simplified and optimized.
  • CPU tester detected rare CPU/FPU bugs fixed.
  • Multiple CPU tester detected undocumented CPU and FPU (all models) behavior emulated, mainly edge cases that almost never happen normally. More information in detailed changelogs.
  • Debugger assembler and disassembler updates and fixes.
  • 1x-8x CPU multipliers are now also supported in prefetch (more compatible) CPU mode.
  • Implemented Paula serial port emulation receive break condition detection support.
  • “diskchange rdh0:” can be now used to eject drag&drop mounted directory/file/archive harddrive.
  • On screen led floppy leds have brighter border if inserted disk is write protected.
  • If 2 light pens/guns enabled and if gun 2 moves, enable only gun 2 crosshair. Previously gun 1 move enabled both crosshairs.
  • “Default” filter mode now enables aspect ratio correction and scales to window/screen size only when display size is too large or too small.
  • Ignore ncap/winpcap dll version because recent ncap versions have smaller version number than old winpcap versions.
  • GUI Reset button now copies current full GUI config to active config, including options that normally can’t be changed on the fly.
  • FPU default is back to 64-bit. Very few programs require 80-bit accuracy, it wasn’t worth the speed loss.
  • Black borders are not anymore enabled in autoscale center mode.
  • Few custom chipset and CIA emulation updates.
  • Added easy to use and transparent printf()-like debug logging method for developers.
Fixed bugs:
  • If disk read DMA was started without any selected drive(s), it was always emulated in turbo mode.
  • Screen capture to clipboard created blank image if 256 color or less RTG mode and capture before filtering was set.
  • When ejecting directory filesystem that points to plain file or archive, not all host file handles were closed properly.
  • Switching GUI panels left stale entry in internal array, possibly causing random crash after switching panels many times.
  • Config file (*.uae) icon is now correct again.
4.3.0 bugs fixed:
  • Some RTG to RTG mode resolution switches didn’t resize windowed mode correctly.
  • CD32 pad red button didn’t always work as a normal fire button, depending on how it was configured.
  • CD32 ROM delay loop patch was skipped. Broke CD32 CD if CPU speed was too fast.
New emulated hardware:
  • Hardital Dotto (clone of ICD AdIDE)

Individual Computers: Indivision AGA Mk3 can be pre-ordered
From now on you can pre-order the third generation of the scandoubler/flickerfixer "Indivision AGA" from Individual Computers. The currently offered version is meant for A1200 and A4000T - this one requires a minor modifications to the A4000T mainboard by the user - computers.

This third generation now "supports synchronisation of the output signal with the computer's V-Sync signal" which "allows sliky-smooth animations and perfect scrolling without tearing". This requires a monitor supporting a refresh rate of 50 Hz.

The developers also wrote: "Another improvement over the predecessor models is automatic monitor recognition: The configuration tool can detect what size of monitor is connected and make suggestions for ideal output frequencies that are within the specifications of the monitor. This reduces the "first setup" to a matter of minutes, maybe even seconds if you're using one of the presets for popular display panel sizes that we provide.

Indivision AGA Mk3 is plugged over the Lisa chip. For the first time, a second connection is required to take advantage of all features of the product: An additional adapter is clipped on top of a CIA chip to route keyboard signals to the flicker fixer. This gives way for a huge practical improvement over previous versions of the flicker fixer: You can now make small adjustments to the output picture format, including positioning and re-sizing of the output picture without the need to load the configuration tool. While Indivision predecessors required the user to exit a game, load the config tool, make adjustments and then re-boot into the game, you can now open a simple menu using a hot-key combination, make adjustments with the keyboard or mouse and then exit this live configuration menu - all this without leaving the game or demo that's currently running."

The new Indivision AGA is suppoed to be delivered from 10th August. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Company history: Commodore's involvement in a financial scandal in 1965
Many users know that Jack Tramiel's company Commodore was experiencing financial difficulties back in the 60s and could only continue existing by the help of Irving Gould. That those financial difficulties are related to a financial scandal some users might know as well. But you cannot find detailed information in the Internet or in books.

The brief summary of this story published by Brian Bagnall in his first part of Commodore's history encouraged the American "Zube" to look for more details. For a limited time he could read the 3000 page final report of the investigative commission which examined the crash of the Canadian financial institution Atlantic Acceptance Corporation  - this finance company which in the middle of the sixties did hold many shares of the "Commodore Business Machines".

In the text which "Zube" already published in 2007 he painted a very gloomy picture of the persons involved. But he explicitly states that he did not had sufficient time for reading the whole documents and that he is not an expert. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Game Construction Kit: Scorpion Engine
The "Scorpion Engine" developed by Erik 'earok' Hogan allows you to develop game running on an A500 with a screen rate of 50 Hz. The editor runs under Windows. Graphics are imported as PNG files, levels created by using the editor Tiled. For sounds, music and animations the Amiga formats are used (mod, 8svx, anim5).

For some days an update is available which additional to the full example project Amigo the Fox includes diverse changes and improvements:
  • Mid-air platformer control is drastically improved, though there's still some refinements to be done
  • Ability to set collision handling per direction. It's now possible to define that an enemy will bounce off walls but won't bounce when hitting the floor from height, for example
  • Ability to configure a platformer actor so it won't walk off it's platform (this is done from the 'collision down' parameter)
  • Previously, a "player projectile" type couldn't collide with the player itself. This has been fixed, allowing for objects that collide with both the player and other objects
  • Removal of various unused parameters for simplicity
  • Improved efficiency of animated tile system
  • AGA enhancement: Fades are super smooth 24 bit. On OCS machines, fades remain at 12 bit
  • AGA enhancement: Color palette is 24 bit. On OCS machines, palette remains at 12 bit
  • Map compilation has been made much more powerful. You can include any number of background and foreground layers and the compiler will merge them all down to a tight and efficient tileset, containing no visually redundant tiles
  • A1000 officially supported
  • ECS/AGA enhancement: Border blank. Border is always black, even when index 0 of palette isn't
  • Various improvements for Backbone importer
  • Default fonts are included with every new project (cheers to Koyot for this)
  • Commercial derived sample games have been depreciated, and will be replaced and removed in future updates. They were never meant to be finished, they were simply meant to show that commercial quality, console like games are entirely possible in the engine. They'll be replaced with similar games featuring free assets
  • Various other minor tweaks to support 'Amigo the Fox' and future Scorpion games
