Interview with Deftone (SMSEngineerMUI)
On the Amiga Future website an interview (title link)

Deftone talks about how he started programming, what he likes on the Amiga, and
what is being planned for future versions of SMSEngineer. An ARexx-port of which 90% have been
finished belongs to this plans , and maybe to part program and GUI to
make it possible to support other GUI systems.

R-Type Title Song as Ringing Sound for your Cell Phone
Dennis Lohr, aka Psyria, has got another
licence from Chris Huelsbeck to convert one
of his songs into cell phone format. This time it's the title melody of "R-Type".
For everybody who doesn't need a picture, here's the notation sequence:
4G#4, 4D#5, 4G#5, 8D#6, 2C#.6, 8C6, 8A#5, 4C.6, 8G#5, 4D#.5, 8G#5,
2C#.5, 8D#5, 8F5, 4D#5, 4D#5, 4G#4, 4D#5, 8D#6, 2C#.6, 8C6, 8A#5,
4C.6, 8G#5, 4D#.5, 8G#5, 2A#.5, 8G#5, 8A#5, 4G#5, 8G#5, 1P
First number: kind of the note (full, half, quarter, ...)
Letter : note height (if need be with "#" + ".")
Third number: Octave (note height)
People who'd rather see a picture can find this at Psyria on the homepage (title
link) at the download area.
On "www.mp3.com/huelsbeck" you can find
the old pieces of Chris Huelsbeck in studio quality.
The next conversion for the handy will be "Giana Sisters". Be anxious. ;)
Psyria wrote:
You have to set the speed for the song for yourself!
This is needed because every cell phone producer uses a different way for the speed
display. For example: for Siemens cell phones it's 1 = slow to 30 = fast and for
Nokia cell phones it's in bpm.
On Siemens cell phones it would be 7 or 8 ;) (tested on S25 & S35)

REBOL: Function Dictionary, Sound Support, VID FAQ
Function dictionary
On the 10. May 2001 has REBOL Technologies released an update of the
'Function Dictionary' where the functions of the REBOL system
are described. The functions are sorted by categories and alphabetically. The
dictionary is available as
HTML file (almost 900 KB)
and in the REBOL desktop via 'REBOL.com/Ref-Make'. This script loads around 40
KB from the REBOL site and generates the file
'/public/www.rebol.com/view/docs/dictionary.html' within the REBOL directory.
Sound support
REBOL/View/Pro supports from the version 1.2 on the output of sound samples.
For the loading of samples is a subset of the WAV format (PCM samples with 8 or 16
Bit) supported.
The sound output is possible on the systems AmigaOS (AHI, audio.device),
BeOS, Linux/x86 (Open Sound System) and Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000.
Further information can be taken from the
REBOL sound documentation.
VID-FAQ
A faq regarding the REBOL GUI dialect 'VID' can be found via the REBOL desktop
on
http://www.compkarori.co.nz/index.r within 'VidWiki'.
Information: REBOL
REBOL is a cross platform system developed by Carl Sassenrath (Amiga-Exec) that was
first released in November 1997. The REBOL programming language
allows an easy use of the internet including the programming of CGI scripts and
the easy creation of GUIs.
On 24. April 2001 was REBOL/View V1.1 released. From this version on
REBOL offers the REBOL desktop. This makes it possible to put REBOL scripts on
every web server, so that these scripts can be called and executed via the
desktop. Herewith REBOL offers similar possibilities as Java does. The
examples listed on REBOL include
games like Tetris and Minesweeper and tools like a pocket calculator and a
script for sending e-mails.

Amiga port of SiN Finished, but...
From a posting of Ben Hermans of
Hyperion Entertainment it is evident
that the Amiga port of the game 'SiN' is ready but the actual Amiga hardware
isn't enough to cope with the requirements of the game. The port will be hold
back until the AmigaOne hits the market.
Hermans said that particularly the lower-end Blizzard acceleration cards couldn't offer
the CPU speed needed for 'SiN'.

Intel: Itanium Set in May
Intel plans the release of the first batch
Itanium chips for the end of this month. It is expected that two or three
versions of this chip will arrive. One with 733 Mhz and a 800-Mhz version with
2 MB cache. A 800-Mhz version with 4 MB cache is said to come, too. Amiga should
now mention whether an Itanium compatible translator (VP) is planned.
Itanium chips are 64Bit processors that can among other things manage 32 GB
memory. Enough for complete websites or the content of big harddrives.
IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and other big computer distributors will soon present
computers with 2, 4 and even with 16 processors that for the first time will have
the 64 bit Itanium chip.
