MorphOS: Installation, MorphVNC Client
In the Italian online magazine Amigazette an Italian installations guide for MorphOS was released.

On 31. August 2001 Mark Olsen released the VNC client 'MorphVNC' for MorphOS supporting encodings like raw, copyrect, RRE, and CoRRE.

VNC means 'Virtual Network Computing'. VNC allows to control one computer from another via the Internet by transfering the GUI of one machine to the other, not constrained by the systems used.

With permission of GP Software now 'Directory Opus 4' is online on 'AMI Sector One'. Information about newer versions and version 6 for PC are to find on the GP Software website.

'The Bible' consists of 4 disks and contains both the old and the new testament.

Keith Golden and Laurent Arditi allowed 'AMI Sectore One' to offer their games for download at games area: 'Adventures through Time' was one fo the first point'n click adventures for the Amiga. 'Skweek' and 'Super Skweek' are about two Arcade / puzzle games with cute characters by Laurent Arditi. 'Cyber Man' is a very joyful 3D Pacman clone.

Printer-Spooler: PrintManager V39.32
PrintManager v39 is a so called printer-spooler, it intercepts all printer. device calls to the parallel-/serial.device and saves the printer specific raw data to a file. This way, programs sending data to the printer don't have to wait for the slow printer to continue. PrintManager also gives you some control over the data sent to the printer. You can even print files directly from inside PrintManager using the datatypes-system.

'PrintManager' also can be configured to make the spooler catch printing commands directly sent to the parallel or serial device.

Changes:
when changing the screenmode or screenfont of the workbench screen, PrtMan closes and reopens its window, now. This feature requires OS3.9.

Features:
  • caches only printer.device calls
  • can cache all calls to parallel-/serial.devices
  • allows to exclude certain tasks from spooling
  • nice gui which works with proportional fonts
  • files can be printed from inside Printmanager (uses datatypes.lib)
  • works with datatypes.library v45 (v45 recommend, not required!)
  • own FAST parallel.device (registered version only)
  • localized
  • after reset/crash unfinished printings are recovered
  • delayed printing
  • print count function
  • allows to redirect printing to another device
  • upto 10 devices can be spooled

AmigaDE: Tool - memprof V1.0
On 01. September 2001 Fleecy Moss released version 1.0 of the memory profiler 'memprof' for the AmigaDE SDK.

This tool does some crude but useful memory profiling. It works only for VP apps at the moment and only profiles application memory (i.e. memory that a developer asks for and frees). It does not cover system memory such as pixmaps, etc.

Game: Earth 2140 Update
"Some people reported problems running the game from CDROMs connected to their BlizzardPPC/CyberStormPPC SCSI controllers, getting "phase mismatch" errors. This version fixes the CDDA code to support those controllers too. In addition to that we have fixed some problems regarding the speed setting within the game. So if the game is too slow now, just move the speed gadget up again - it's better than the other way around, as before."

Swiss local store AMIGALAND closing down
Marianne E. Vokinger wrote:
For health reasons I, Marianne E. Vokinger, holder of AMIGALAND in Switzerland, unfortunately have to finally close down the local store AMIGALAND after 9½ years of business.

I will appeal to keep existing contacts and to go on working for the dispatch. But until the entire liquidation was done and I'm of somehow stable health again it quite sure will be October 2001 for me to able to be active again. I'm very sorry to not having another option and I'm often remembering the 'GOOD OLD TIMES', these days.

I would like to thank all of my customers both at home and abroad for they have been faithful for many years, as well as my distributors! Also a special thank to you, Petra, for you already let me off the hook on the Neuss show :))

Who knows, maybe we will meet again on some show :-) I wish you much success further on.

Image processor SViewIV: New ImageFX loader/saver modules
Andreas Kleinert writes:
There's a new version of the SViewIV ImageFX loader/saver available for download on my WWW site.

It now allows to save images as well (previously only worked as loader), the loading process is much more efficient and less memory consuming and support for saving of paletted (imagefx-rendered) images has been added.

This module requires a SViewIV keyfile to work.

The Register

The Register: Amiga flogs Win, Linux Amiga DE player for $20
Tony Smith has written a critial, partly unobjective, article for ´The Register´ on the AmigaDE Player which is offered in the AmigaDE Shop for $20.

Here an excerpt:
»If Sun couldn't make it happen with Java on the basis of allowing anyone to write JVMs and give them away for free, we can't help but think Amiga's plan to make people pay for this stuff has even less chance of success.
Doubly so when this allegedly advanced technology can only be used to knock up half a dozen puzzle games of the kind we haven't seen since we won an Atari Lynx in 1989.«
