AmigaOne: Gamestar reports about AmigaOne
In the latest issue of the games magazine 'Gamestar' (05/2002) you can find the following (Cebit?) news on page 18:

Amiga returns- Under the title AmigaOneG3-SE the venerable home computer Amiga returns. Incorporated in this computer is a firmly welded Power-PC-G3 processor with 600 Mhz. The mainboard, called A1.5, corresponds to the ATX standard and therefore fits in any common PC case.

The set of chips supports AGP2x, 4 PCI boards and 2GByte PC133 access memory at the most. Drives and input devices are connected via IDE, PS/2 and USB interfaces. To increase competition, dealers are allowed to fix prices for boards as well as complete systems. The manufacturer Eyetech is leading the way: The A1.5 mainboard with processor is only supposed to be 600 EURO, including VAT and delivery charges. The operating system AmigaOS4 is available at 70 EURO, not including VAT. www.eyetech.co.uk.

The magazine shows a picture with an open PC case and the caption: 'Incorporated in AmigaOneG3-SE is a G3 processor with 600 Mhz from Motorola.' (sd) (Translation: sr)

AROS: Survey about requested features
Matt Parsons has included a new page in AROS, a feature request page. It allows users and potential users of AROS to vote for the feature they want to see most.

At the moment it's possible to vote for one of the two options: Should the AROS team focus either on Workbench or on drivers and other low-level systems (OOP)?

Since the vote on the above mentioned page can only be called up via JavaScript, Matt Parsons has sent amiga-news.de the formula to publish it direct.

«Is it better for the AROS team to work on a Workbench now (and have one ready in a couple of weeks) or spend more time on drivers and low-level (OOP) system and worry about the workbench later (in about three to four months)? If we make a desktop now, it will only be a stop gap (with only the features of the original Workbench) and will be much improved later once the OOP system is finished to provide a more modern desktop environment.»

Should AROS get a Workbench now or later?

Original style Workbench Now (with a better one later).
Low level (OOP) stuff now, and Workbench later.

Amiga Speed update
On the Amiga Speed there's a new poll with the subject AmigaOS 4.0. Next to this have all 3D games reviews been updated and the clarity has been improved. New is also a Voodoo3 (Mediator) 2D GFX review in 32 bit colour depth. This test shows quite good on which operations the 32 bit mode brings advantages compared to the 24 bit mode while using the same number of colours. (ps) (Translation: wk)

Matrix screen blanker v1.9
Matrix is a screen blanker for AmigaOS 68k and MorphOS. It works (or should work) on OCS, ECS, AGA, CGX and P96. This update fixes the problems under OCS/ECS/AGA and Picasso96 introduced in v1.8.

Detailed changes:

  • The version string is back. [Hexaae]
  • Fixed AGA screen depth and improved performance with FBlit. [Hexaae]
  • Fixed P96 screen depth. [kakace]
  • Should work without NoJoyCheck on systems where it was necessary before (A4000 with nothing plugged in joy port 1, for example).
  • AntiBlanker feature: you can create a ENV:AntiBlanker.cfg file which contains a list of tasks that prevent blanking. [ChaoZer]

Game: ScummVM MorphOS with new interface
The new CVS-snapshot of ScummVM finally contains a completely new MorphOS-interface. Two of the most important news are the scaling engine which can scale the pictures with antialiasing to a double size (for that please have a look at the pictures on my homepage - they can tell more than thousands of words) as well as the support of CD-ROM-audio.

The new archive can be downloaded under the title link.

Now the details to the news

  • New scaling engine with antialiasing. When playing the game you can switch between the scaling engines at any time.
  • The program contains code for the MIDI-music. The MIDI-music starts playing as soon as AMidi will have been published for MorphOS.
  • Support of the CD-ROM-audiotracks of Loom and Monkey Island. The MorphOS-version is the first one after the SDL-version which supports audiotracks. Because of that I have created a new CD-audio-library which is enclosed in the archive as a beta version and which can automaticly recognize CD-ROM-drives connected to the computer and if there is more than one CD-drive which can automaticly find the one with the "right" game-CD.
  • Standard MorphOS command line (instead of the usual Unix like one).
  • Start possible over pictprogram from the workbench or from the toolbar without having to write a script for this.
  • Support for the video sequences of The Dig and Full Throttle.
  • Manual with 26 pages in PDF-format and with detailed FAQ (requires Apdf).
  • Archive contains colourful pictprograms for all supported games.
  • Before publishing as usual all supported games have been tested that they are work like the Windows/Linux-versions.
  • ... Many more minor improvements and bugfixes.

t-dsl from May 2002 via satellite
From May 2002 t-online will also offer t-dsl via satellite. The basic charge for t-dsl is 19,95 Euro/month. Additionally you have to have either a dsl modem or an Ethernet-card or only an USB-dsl modem.

Another precondition for using t-dsl via satellite is a t-net/ISDN-telephone connection and a satellite bowl for Astra. With a TV-card you can also simultaneously watching TV as well as listening to the radio. If you want to get more information (in German) the have a look at the title link under the section "t-dsl via satellite". (ps) (Translation: dr)

Development of GoldED Studio for AmigaOS stopped
Developer's Notice - Discontinued
I regret to inform AmigaOS users that all software on this web site is now discontinued (due to lack of time on my side to continue with AmigaOS software development).

What will happen to the BASIC interpreter?
Expect the source code to be made available under the GPL in the near future (in a nutshell, a GPL is a public domain license).

What will happen to the GoldED Studio software?
GoldED will remain available as a commercial product while stock lasts. Personal technical support will end this year. No future updates for AmigaOS will be released from the original developer. (ps) (Translation: dr)

Amiga Arena: Interview with Jakub Brzezniak
Not only the commercial Amiga game market has been almost vanished but also the PD game market! You cannot find new interesting games on Aminet except some few ones. Because of that it is more than pleasing that from time to time some little "WB mind"-games like "Swapper" or "Magic Numbers" are published.

Jakub Brzezniak of "Magic Software" who is the developer of the above mentioned games answers in an English spoken interview the standard questions of the Amiga Arena. But it is less pleasing that future versions of the games will be probably published only for the PC! (ps) (Translation: dr)

Back to the Roots Amiga-News 237
Easter is over but the rabbits are still busy. The lovely rabbits from "Back to the Roots" brought you some nice surprises with their latest update.

If you have a look at their Easter nest you'll find games like Rings of Medusa, Super Cars 1+2, Genetic Species Heimdall 2, Larry 1 Remake, Sherman M4, Pinball Magic and many others. Besides that many scene demos from the fantastic Mekka+Symposium 2002 demo party have been added, more music from the demoscene came online and the picture galleries are now containing some extremely colorful little eggs.

Happy (late) egg shaking! (ps)

Amiga Arena: Full Version of "AmigaBase V.2.6"
In cooperation with Steffen Gutmann, Amiga Arena is making possible the opportunity to download the full version of AmigaBase V.2.6.

About AmigaBase:
AmigaBase is NOT a relational databank with SQL-crosspoints or the like. AmigaBase IS a hierarchical, programmable databank. In spite of that, or straightaway because of it, AmigaBase is prominently suited for the management of music and video cassettes, addresses and so on.

But also complicated applications, for example bookkeeping with automatic referral and the writing of calculations, are no problem for AmigaBase.

A complete documentation of AmigaBase including all the programmable possibilities is provided in German and English in PostScript and PDF formats.

Amiga Arena offers our thanks to Steffen Gutmann for allowing us to offer this, and we would like to call attention to the development of the successor to AmigaBase, at MuiBase. (ps) (Translation: dm)
