Event: Website for THE PARTY updated
The website of one of the oldest scene parties at all, THE PARTY, was put
online with an new design today. The Party is held, like every year, from
December the 27th to December the 29th in central Denmark at the congress
center in Aars. Unfortunately there is only little left from that scene
spirit of the first years. The Party became more a meeting point for
gamers and those, who only want to fill up their hard drives via network.
Those who are atracted by the prizes (at least EUR 1000 for the 1st prize
at the mixed double demo competition) and the professional organisation
should have a view to the new homepage.

Event: Radwar birthday party in early November in Heinsberg
At November the 9th 17 years ago the C64/Amiga group Radwar was foundeed and
for that score the boys from Heinsberg like to go wild and party once again! Mws, Arnd, Crazy & Co. have gained some attention with well organized scene parties during the recent years. This year it is again that you leave your own computers at home because it's a party for the people not for their equipment. It's partytime! (ps) (Translation: ub)

Datatypes: akJFIF/PNG/TIFF Update Version 45.7
Due to a screwed test setup, a buggy akJFIF 45.6 version went to Aminet.
As a result, 45.7 of all three datatypes now is available for download on
my website (www.ar-kleinert.de) This is because Aminet has a 10 day
upload delay for updates - and additionally I might not be able to do any
uploads the first week of November.

MPEG: SMPEG V0.4.4 - MPEG-1 player library for SDL
An Amiga version of the MPEG-1 player library 'SMPEG' with sound support has
been released, including a simple player program.
Video playback is based on the Berkeley MPEG player 'mpeg_play v2.2'. Sound
output is by way of a slightly modified version of the 'mpegsound-Library' of
Splay V0.8.2.
SMPEG thus supports MPEG audio (MP3), MPEG-1 video and MPEG system streams.
The library is subject to the GNU Library Public License (LGPL) Version 2 and
has been compiled with -m68020-60.
With 'plaympeg', a simple video player for testing the library is included (also required is the SDL library: CGX, AHI, etc.).
The C library interfaces are 'documented' in the file 'smpeg.h' and the MPEG*.h
files.

Geek Gadgets: Status after breakdown on 10th October 2002
On 10th October 2002, the Geek Gadgets project's hardware (gcc,
ixemul.library...) broke down. This affected the power supply as well as two
hard disks, one with the current system backup and another with the complete
system backup (about a year old).
Currently, only the mailing lists are active. Due to the low activities in the
lists, these have been reduced to 'gg-announce' and 'gg'.
The 'gg' list currently has a discussion about the status and the future of
Geek Gadgets.
