The partnership between Amiga news.de, Erkrath, and AMIGAPlus, Cologne, leads to a bundling of the know-how, to garanty and expand a daily competent reporting about the Amiga market and the adjacent surrounding field. In the context of the partner contract laid out on a long-term basis the team of amiga-news.de, wich is highly recognized in the industry, will be supported by the AMIGAPlus editorship in terms of creating content and write reports. AmigaTalk V2.3 uploaded to Aminet
The latest and greatest version of AmigaTalk (V2.3) has been uploaded to Aminet. The most significant change is the addition of catalogued language support to the main program. Please send me any translations that you develop for inclusion into later versions of the program, thanx, Jim Steichen, author of AmigaTalk.

For version 2.3 the following enhancements/bug fixes were made:
  • Added catalog support for the program (now, send me your translation files!)
  • Added Layers.st to the Intuition/ directory to support using layers.library (why anyone would want to put themselves through the torture of using layers is beyond me).
  • Fixed some bugs in GadTools.st so that the test files now run correctly.
  • Added ARexx.st to the System/ directory.
  • Added MsgPort.st to the System/ directory.

Soms3D voting results new shots and help wanted
The online poll regarding the future of the Soms3D engine has been finished. The Silent Hill like engine was voted by 51 voters, role playing game got 41 votes and the GtA3 like engine got 31 votes.

So a game like Silent Hill got the most interest through the online and the mail vote. Because of that we have already put two new screen shots online.

Furtheron we are looking for capable raytracers respectively 3D object creators who are willing to work with us. Pixler are welcome, too. (ps) (Translation: wk)

»Interview with lawyer Thorsten Feldmann
Discussions about placing computer games on the index are quite often in the public but do often lack the legal base. AmiChess: bugfixes
There's an update for AmiChess on the home page (title link) that contains some bugfixes.

  • Small fixes in the source code.
  • The loading of PGN files (game files) and the creating of the openings book is now possible in the PPC mode, too! So there are now limitations of the WarpOS version compared to the 68k version anymore.
  • The archive on the Lycos server was unfortunately defective. I have now corrected this and have uploaded an unpackable archive (has been successfully tested). Sorry to all who wanted to download the archive.

My thanks go especially to Georg Steger of the AROS team who has helped me very much. By the way, he has already managed to do an AROS port of AmiChess! (ps) (Translation: wk)

RPG: eVe status update
In January 2003 announced Emerald Imaging, known through the adventure game 'Aqua', a new role playing game (RPG) called 'eVe'. The game will contain hand drawn scenarios and chosen music is said to improve the gaming fun. Here a current status update:

Well, it's been a month since eVe was announced so it's time for a quick status update. The programming is coming along great and already the main play screen and character/collision detection etc. are working. The graphics work is moving a bit slow right now but Darko Ponos has recently signed on to help with some great graphics. Quite a bit has been done on the game design too. Hopefully within another month some screenshots of a nearly fully working version can be shown and maybe some concept artwork etc. before then. The game will be targeted at OS4/MorphOS/Amithlon users. (ps) (Translation: wk)

Network from the socket
At this Cebit the company devolo from Aachen will introduce its new product "devolo MicroLink LAN" (title link) to the market. With this device it should be possible to realize a DSL network over the mains supply of the house - without boring holes or pulling cables. "Simply put it in the socket and connect it with an Ethernet card on the PC."

According to the documentation a bit rate of up to 14Mbit in a circuit of 200 m is possible. The data transfer is described as safe. The electric meter is supposed to work as a firewall and a DES encoding with a 56 bit key will be used.

The device has a driver. All operating systems like Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and all TCP/IP operating systems will work with it. Maybe the Amiga, too...? (ps) (Translation: dr)

Limitations/specialities of the demo version:

  • some features of the full version are missing completly or are disabled
The demo version comes with all native modules for 68K, PPC (WarpUP, PowerUP, MorphOS) and x86 (Amithlon) and gives you - except for the limitations of the demo - an impression and some insight of fxPAINT 2.0. (ps)
