Mai Logic Inc. earns "Ready for IBM Technology" Validation
FREMONT, CA. February 10, 2003. Mai Logic Incorporated, a
technology design house of integrated circuits/systems,
announced today that it has achieved "Ready For IBM Technology"
validation for its Articia S system controller and Teron CX
and Teron PX evaluation system boards for IBM's 750CXe and
750FX PowerPCTM processors based applications.
"MAI Logic has successfully developed optimized supporting
devices and reference designs for PowerPCTM microprocessor
application platforms which have passed a rigorous PowerPCTM compatibility validation testing process by IBM Microelectronics
labs," said Lisa Su, Director of PowerPCTM and emerging products,
IBM Microelectronics. "Solutions like MAI's 'Ready for IBM
Technology' chipset and evaluation systems give developers more
ways to enhance their applications, resulting in improved time
to market, more cost effective designs, and improved performance
products by our OEM customers."
"We at MAI are very excited about this latest achievement," said
Jason Hou, CEO of Mai Logic, Inc. "We will continue working
closely with IBM to better our product designs and development
following IBM's PowerPCTM processor roadmap. By leveraging the
strong ties we have with our manufacturing partners in Taiwan
and the close relationship with the leading developers worldwide,
MAI intends to deliver the most cost-effective, highest-quality
PowerPCTM offerings to the traditional PowerPCTM market place
and expanding it into new applications presently not in the
PowerPCTM application domain. This validation will further enable
IBM's and MAI's customers to accelerated time to market coupled
with significantly reduced resource deployment and management
costs."
Articia S
Articia S is the first in the Articia family of chipsets
designed with the revolutionary "Bus-Centric" methodology
to achieve a more balanced and efficient architecture serving
both CPU and peripheral bus requirements. Articia S can
support single- or dual-processors at 133MHz CPU bus speed.
It is also the first commercialized system controller to
provide AGP support for RISC processor based systems.
Next-generation Articia Sa and Articia P will soon be
available. For product details, please visit: http://www.mai.com.
Teron
Teron CX and Teron PX evaluation systems are generic ATX
motherboards built with PowerPCTM processors. The former is
the first PowerPCTM processor based board with enhanced AGP
option and the latter equipped with a 300-pin MegArray
connector, provides easy configuration to a range of
development platforms driven by single-processor and
dual-processor CPU module cards (including the latest
PowerPCTM 750FX processor).
The "Ready for IBM Technology" program is developed to help
OEMs identify hardware or software of IBM Business Partners
that have received validation with IBM's products. Eligible
participants must complete the validation process to obtain
the approval and use of the "Ready for IBM Technology emblem
as well as to further distinguish their product listings in
the IBM Global Solutions Directory. For more information,
please go to: http://www-3.ibm.com/chips/products/wired/alliances/rfit.html.

e.p.i.c.: Puzzle game BoXiKoN finished for MorphOS
The addictive puzzle game BoXiKoN from e.p.i.c. interactive has been
finished for MorphOS. Originally developed for the Amiga computer this
game has become very popular on other desktop and handheld platforms
including Macintosh, PocketPC and Windows.
BoXiKoN is a fun and addictive new puzzle game of strategy and
logic. The game belongs to the family of shape games but BoXiKoN really is
quite different. There is a large emphasis on planning, organization and
selection and less on arcade style quick reactions. You can find out more
on BoXiKoN in the projects section of the e.p.i.c. homepage (see title
link).

Get your Amiga "Boing" water tank!
Your Amiga is not complete if you don't have your own 'Boing' Water Tank!
By following the title link, you will see something that looks familiar.
They [American Models] call it an "Automatic water tank" but we Amigans
know better: It's really a 'Boing' water tank!
This is not intended to be an advertisement for American Models (a model
railroad supplier), but just in case you do like it and want to have one,
you'll know where you can buy one... (it's item #772). (ps)

Elbox: Spider gathers USB 2.0 High-Speed
ELBOX COMPUTER is pleased to announce that from now on, Amiga has
the possibility of using new generation USB 2.0 devices in the
USB 2.0 Hi-Speed mode. This has become possible with the Spider EHCI USB
driver developed by Elbox for the MEDIATOR PCI busboard series.
When Spider USB 2.0 controller was released in September 2002, it
was supplied with the OHCI USB 1.1 driver. EHCI USB 2.0 support was
lacking but promised as soon as possible. Today Elbox made good on
that promise. The Spider EHCI USB Hi-Speed driver is now included
in the Spider CD. All registered Spider users are now receiving
this new driver as a free update.
USB 2.0 is the fastest USB standard released so far, supporting data
speeds up to 480Mbps, that is 40 times faster than USB 1.1. This makes USB
2.0 an ideal technology for external storage devices, digital cameras,
webcams and much more.
Spider USB 2.0 card features:
- Five USB 2.0 Hi-Speed ports: four external ports and one internal port
- Compatible with both USB 2.0 (480Mbps) and USB 1.1 (12Mbps) devices
- Compliant with EHCI, OHCI and PCI 2.2 standards
- All ports can handle Hi-Speed, Full-Speed and Low-Speed transaction
- 5-port EHCI (Enhanced Host Controller Interface) USB 2.0 controller
- Two independent OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface)
USB 1.1 controllers
- Supports up to 127 downstream USB devices
- Supplies 500 mA power to each USB port
- Supports PCI-Bus Power Management Interface
- Hot Plug Capability

individual Computers: New drivers, higher shipping costs
individual Computers writes:
"Dirk 'Doj' Jagdmann has updated his
Linux-drivers for the Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper. In addition to
SID functions, joysticks and an Amiga keyboard is now supported.
The drivers, as well as the source codes, can be found on the
author's website: http://llg.cubic.org/cw/.
The Amiga One now supports our PCI POST code display. The diagnostic
tool shows valuable information during system startup that can be
debuggin-information for developers, or give hints for technicians
in case of a defect.
The cooperation with the development team of the Amiga One and Amiga
OS4 has also been intensified on another field: Parts of the source
code for the keyboard driver for the Catweasel MK3 have been given
to Hyperion.
We're especially happy to announce that individual Computers has found
a new distribution channel: The wholesaler APi has started selling
the PCI POST code display under article number 11008. Several
tenthousand PC-resellers and workshops now have an easy possibility
to get hold of this useful tool. APi does not sell to end users.
Deathbed vigil DVD in stock: The must-have collector's item, the
DVD-edition of Dave Haynie's movie about Commodore's demise and
lots of bonus material is available and in stock. It's a DVD+R in
NTSC video standard. All players convert automatically from NTSC
to PAL-60 if necessary. Since some stand-alone DVD players have
problems with DVD+R media, please check for compatibility before
you buy. In any case, the DVD can be played back with a PC. The
best thing: Each DVD has Dave Haynie's signature! Price: 39,- EUR.
Bad news at the end: The Deutsche Paketpost has informed us in
an automatic mailing that shipment cost will go up by more than
68% on March 1st, 2003. Therefore, we can only offer the special
domestic rates of 4,- EUR for pre-paid goods and 8,- EUR for
cash-on-delivery until the end of this month. Starting March
2003, we'll only ship with the Deutsche Paketpost in exceptional
cases, we're already negotiating with UPS and DPD/German parcel
service. International shipping rates are not affected." (nba) (Translation: nba)
