bplan: New firmware for the Pegasos II available
bplan GmbH has released a flash update for the Pegasos II firmware. Please read the installation instructions carefully.

Changes:
  • Network boot 10/100 (setenv client-ip/setenv server-ip)
  • 256MB memory limitation under Linux removed
  • RAM Timing changes for better support of different memory modules
  • additional RTAS functions

Benchmark: AmigaOne vs. Pegasos

Download manager: Wallget 0.7.1
"Wallget" is a download manager based on WGet, versions for MorphOS and AmigaOS 3 are available.

The 0.7.1 update fixes a bug that could crash the program when parsing the preferences file. (cg) (Translation: cg)

MorphOS: snes9xstarter 2.0 released
snes9xstarter is an Open Source GUI (screenshot) for the MorphOS port of SNES9x by Fab. Version 2.0 was written from scratch and the main features are:
  • uses Magic User Interface
  • ROM image QuickSelector
  • optimal settings are preconfigured
  • supports all important SNES9x features / settings, also supports 'forwarding' of advanced SNES9x commandline settings, so practically all SNES9x features are supported
  • it's small: just 20,000 bytes
  • comes already with a nice PNG icon
  • has an AmigaGuide documentation

Disk mag: Grapevine revived

MorphOS: OpenPictureSpace v2.1 released
"OpenPictureSpace" (homepage of the Linux version) shows all pictures of a directory as thumbnails. A double click on a thumbnail shows the image in its original size.

Version 2.1 comes with the following enhancements:
  • a click with the right mouse button shows information about the current picture
  • the keys 'x' and 'y' double the height respectively the width of the shown picture
  • lift displayed on right of the screen, but only in read-only for now

Prometheus: Beta testers needed for new drivers
In a message to the Prometheus mailing list, Filip Dab-Mirowski asks people interested in testing new drivers to contact him.

An upgraded Prometheus board with firmware revision 50/27 would be necessary. Preferably, the testers should provide the appropriate PCI cards (FM801, USB and RTL8139) themselves. (cg) (Translation: cg)

Programming language: AmigaPython 2.3.3 alpha 2
Tim Ocock has released another alpha build of his version 2.3.3 update of Irmen de Jong's AmigaPython. New in this version:
  • XML (pyexpat) support working
  • bzip2 and zlib (zip) support
  • socket module for Internet access works
  • uses ieee math libraries instead of FPU only ones
  • more complete Amiga and Amigapath modules, fixing st_size bug amongst others

Text editor: TurboText 2.0 released as Freeware
Martin Taillefer permitted the distribution of his text editor "Turbo-Text 2.0" as Freeware. The software can be downloaded from Tim Ocock's homepage for now, it will be available on Aminet soon.

Please note that "Amiga Forever" also contains a version of TurboText 2.0 which has been modified in several ways to fix various issues. This version has not been released as Freeware, it is still a commercial product. (cg) (Translation: cg)

Black Troll Technology: webshop for AROS complete systems opened
Black Troll Technology have opened their webshop. Next to other products like an AROS shirt they particularly offer the Black Troll Edge LE Basic, a x86 complete system with AROS beginning with a price of 325 US-Dollars.

A part of the incoming through the selling of these systems goes to TeamAROS to speed up the further development of the "Amiga Research Operating System". (snx) (Translation: wk)

Event: First report about the AmCluSt hardware meeting (update)
From the Amiga-Club Steinfurt (AmCluSt) comes a first report about its event that's just happening:

Since yesterday takes in Dreierwalde (near Rheine/Westfalen/Germany) the AmCluSt hardware meeting place. Already on the first day there has been great interest and happenings regarding everything that has to do with the AmigaOS.

Harald Frank presents Amithlon on his laptop and showed because of the great interest already yesterday the possibility of the multimonitoring. Besides that he had brought many hardware with him to upgrade existing Amithlon systems. Among other things he offers many G-Force4 cards priced 15+ Euros.

Axel Knabe demonstrates current software for MorphOS to interested visitors. He also offers useful hardware, not only for the Pegasos.

Guido Mersmann shows the brandnew version 1.00 of the USB driver ArakAttack and the first beta of the IRTrans driver as well as various tools for it. Known programs like BoulderDäsh, MMKeyboard, AmithlonTV are shown there, too.

Everybody who wants to have a look himself/herself has the opportunity to do so until Sunday evening.

OpenOffice 1.1.1 for Linux-PPC released

MorphOS: Port of AROS demos (including screensaver and HTML Tidy)
Ali Akcaagac has compiled AROS demos for MorphOS and made these available for download (1.2 MB) including source codes and makefiles.

There's also the AROS screensaver as well as a new version of the program HTML Tidy included that verifies HTML files for syntax errors, corrects these automatically if wanted and formats the source code for printing.

The author plans to update this archive from time to time. He's aware of the fact that some of the components have already been ported before. (snx) (Translation: wk)

Event: Change of schedule for the live broadcasting from AmigGBG
The schedule for the live broadcasting by AmigaWorld Radio from the Swedish AmiGBG show today with music, interviews and round-ups has been changed.

The broadcasting takes place from 9:50 PM to 16:00 PM UK Time (GMT+1), i.e. 10:50 CEST (New York starts 4:50 AM, Sydney starts 19:50 PM).

Opening speech starts 11:00 UK Time (GMT+1) / 12:00 CEST, the first presentation starts a short while later. The schedule for the presentations is as follows:

1st Universal Space
2nd AROS
3rd Cloanto
4th Individual Computers
5th IBM
6th Eyetech
7th Competition Winners
8th Hyperion
9th Individual Computers (once again)

Additionally, Amigaworld Radio will be hosting Q&A sessions with leading Amiga people, who will be answering questions submitted via their IRC channel, #Amigaworld.

AmigaWorld Radio has the capacity for 300 listeners using two servers:

MorphOS: TGEmu 1.3 released
"TGEmu" emulates the classic NEC games console "TurboGrafx16" (aka "PC Engine"). Many commercial titles are running fast enough and with sound suppport.

The update to version 1.3 includes the following improvements:
  • Added command line interface and Nostalgia v2.2 support
  • Fixed bottom clipping rectangle to match the viewport size
  • Added saving screenshot as a jpeg picture feature
  • Fixed "romname" not being freed on exit
  • Added close gadget to play window
  • Mouse pointer is hidden in fullscreen mode now
  • Reduced sound skipping when resizing or saving screenshot

Amiga User List: GAUHPIL Database now online
The GAUHPIL (Geographical Amiga Users Home Page Internet List) is a list created and moderated by Dietmar Knoll containing websites of Amiga users sorted by continents and countries. Right now, the GAUHPIL is migrating to a MySQL based database solution.

The GAUHPIL database is now publicly accessible, although there is still room for improvement and not all pages have been altered to the new layout scheme yet. On the other hand, the database itself runs stable and the remaining static HTML pages will be adapted one after another. (nba)

SMSPlus ported to MorphOS
Emerald Imaging, developer of the adventure "Aqua", has ported "SMSPlus", an emulator for the Sega MasterSystem / Sega GameGear, to MorphOS. The emulator offers a high grade of compatibility and requires MUI as graphical users interface. (nba) (Translation: wk)
