MorphOS: Pre-release of the screen grabber SnapIt
At PUSH event in Sweden, Stefan Blixth of OnyxSoft released version 0.1 of the screen grabber SnapIt for MorphOS (screenshot).

SnapIt is a screen grabber that works similar to Stephan Rupprecht's SGrab, but features a MUI-based user interface and is MorphOS-native.

Versions for AmigaOS/68k and AROS are planned for the future. A native version for AmigaOS4 has not been possible, though, since the author doesn't have the chance so far to compile one.

Retro computing: CAPS becomes SPS
The CAPS team ("Classic Amiga Preservation Society"), working on the archiving of old copy protected games including the copy protection, is renamed into "Software Preservation Society" (SPS). This name change is the result of an expanding of the activities which now include other computer platforms, too.

In the past months were technologies developed to be able to archive pratically every copy protected disk format. Because of the less flexible drive controlling on other systems in comparison to the Amiga they are now capable of to archive almost all known disk formats after reworking the internal analysis and conversion programs.

For now the^y will concentrate on the archiving of other 3,5 inch formats (MS-DOS, Atari ST) but 5,25 or even 3 inch systems will be supported soon. The main focus lies on the archiving but as for the Amiga there should be emulation libraries available soon to make the use of SPS disk images with known emulators possible. (cg) (Translation: wk)

This multi-game unit plugs directly into a TV set and allow players to play three classic games developed by Sensible Software, including Sensible Soccer, Cannon Fodder and Mega-Lo-Mania.

The product is available yet for a retail price of approximately £30 through British shops ("Where to buy?). The game is designed to replicate the high quality of the original Sega Mega Drive versions and will feature two controllers, enabling one or two player gameplay.

Pat Feely, Radica’s President and CEO said, "Sensible Software was one of the most important video game development houses of the nineties, creating fun, highly playable games and building a huge following. AmigaOS 4: PocketPC as remote control for the Amiga
At the "Boinged in Belgium", taking place tomorrow in Bruxelles, will Davy Wentzler (Audio Evolution) show another use of his multimedia synchronization interface "extream Sync": via an application running on a PocketPC he will remote control an AmigaOne.

To do so the network interface of extream Sync comes in use: via wireless LAN you can control all Amiga applications with support for Wentzler's synchronization library. The starting of programs or ARexx scripts is possible, too. (cg) (Translation: wk)

AmigaOS4: IRC-Client WookieChat 1.7
James Carrol has published a new version of his MUI-based IRC-Clients WookieChat. Since version 1.6 this program is only available for AmigaOS4. Additionally the MUI-classes NList.mcc, NListtree.mcc and BetterString.mcc are required.

Changes to the previous version:
  • Automatic log reloading bug fixed; wasn't displaying the last line if the log had less lines than the "amount of lines to reload" setting
  • New "global query tab" to display all private messages in that don't already have their own tab
  • In the server selection window, clicking on a server group and trying to connect to it will no longer give an error, it will now expand the server group tree showing a list of actual servers in that group
  • Changed internal limit of 400 nicks per channel to 2500, so joining a channel with more than 400 users wont crash anymore
  • Moved the "Perform on Connect" button to the Server window and made it work better; you can choose any server entry: click "Perform on Connect" and it will edit the script for that group
  • File Transfers that have been aborted by the other person/not by you will show up as "Incomplete" now
  • Channel keyword text field now displays dots instead of text for better security
  • Your own "chat history" in the string gadget (that is accessed with cursor up/down) works properly now
  • Support for CTCP TIME requests, so other users can find out your local date and time
  • The time the channel topic was last changed is now displayed in the "topic set by/last changed" line
  • Added "Quit Program? Yes/No" Requester to avoid accidental exiting
  • "/names" command fixed to be able to get lists of users in channels you're not currently in
