WinUAE: MP3-encoding with support for multiple processors
Bernd Roesch's winuae_lame for the Amiga emulator WinUAE (starting from version 1.3.4) allows the use of multiple processors and cores when encoding MP3 files. At the bottom of it is the use of the native LAME version for Windows.
Here, each launched winuae_lame process searches for a free processor. Thus, with four processor cores, three of them can create an audio file in MP3 format each, while the fourth continues to be fully available for the Amiga emulation.
Included in the archive is, in addition to the Readme file with the installation instructions, the source code as well. This shows how to query messages of a Windows program under AmigaOS, and can serve as a guideline for other programs with multiple processor support.
But reportedly, instead of using Windows programs, you could also write your own program code in alib.
Version 1.3.4 of WinUAE is required, since only starting from this is it possible to obtain the corresponding Windows path information for an Amiga file name.
It must be pointed out that files within hardfiles cannot be used for this purpose, but Amiga drives are required which can be accessed from the Windows side as well.
The author wishes everyone a happy new year.

AmigaOS 4: FinalWriter patch for the Final update
Because the word processor FinalWriter 97 doesn't work anymore under the Final update of AmigaOS 4.0 Peter Gordon wrote a patch as interim solution.
This one was done "quick & dirty" so it should only be used if you do rely on FinalWriter 97 (or another program affected by this - e.g. possibly older versions of GoldED). It is not ecxluded that the patch will cause problems with other programs (e.g. IBrowse).
How it works: The 68k functions AllocMem() and AllocVec() are patched so that these functions make 8 bytes available at the beginning and the end of the buffer. In addition is the size of the allocated memory area at AllocVec() - as under AmigaOS/68k - saved in the four bytes before the affected area.
If you call the patch from the startup-sequence please put "Run >NIL:" before it as the patch can't be finished, otherwise the startup-sequence would stop.

MorphOS: libnix-Update
For the MorphOS-SDK there is an update of the statistical GCC library libnix for developers under the title link.
Changes:
- stdio init no longer reads off bounds memory if __stdiowin is set to "" (it's still not valid to do so though (read SAS/C docs))
- strcoll/xfrm won't pull in libauto/external LocaleBase any more
- mbstowcs/wcstombs behaves properly when destination is NULL (they are still dummies though, so don't expect widechar to work)
- no more semaphore lockups that could occur in certain situations (thanks to HAK for finding such a situation)

Systempatch 2.98
SystemPatch written by Sante Nocciolino changes diverse operating system routines to increase the performance of computers with newer 68k-processors. The highest speed increase can be gained on 68060-systems but the patch can be applied on all Amigas from a 68020 upwards.
Version 2.98 does not use CPU specific CopyMem-routines anymore because the versions which does not depend on processors are faster.

AfA: Second beta version of Zune port AOZ
Bernd Roesch still has published a second beta version.
The new AOZ-promoter can now move tasks which were started by the Shell. If the promoter window is open (Ctrl+Shift+Z) all tasks are displayed which tries to access MUI. So it is easier to find the task name of the program which is to be moved. You have to copy the promoter to the WBStartup folder.
Please take care that you will not move the task ramlib if you want to continue using MUI (otherwise some MUI-programs may crash).
From this version on you can find a FAQ file where it is described how you can continue running programs under Zune (Scalos is the only program which is known).
The installer now copies the MUI classes Speedbar, MCPFrame, Filelist and Hotkeystring. If you have not installed these classes so far and do not require them nevertheless you can accept the corresponding message of the installer - AOZ will be installed correctly.
The repeated drawing has been fixed which mainly slowed down YAM and SimpleMail.
MUIM_Application_NewInput has been introduced as new function which makes other programs working - e.g. Voodoo-X.
