AmigaOS 4: Text typeset system LaTeX 3.0 (alpha)
"Jack" has published a first alpha version of a port of the text typeset system LaTeX. A viewer for DVI-files is still not implemented. SDK (Software Development Kit) and a current version of abc-shell are required.
The author asks for feedback of users with LaTeX experiences but he points out that the installation guide still was not completed.
Hint: In the distribution archive there is a damaged version of the file "etex". It is absolutely necessary to download the working version of etex and to copy it over the original version.
Direct download:
Distribution: tetex-3.0_build_alpha1.tar.gz (160 MB)
etex-Fix: tetex-3.0_build_alpha1_etex_only.tar.gz (367 KB)

AmiWest 2007: AmigaOS 4 for PowerUp on November 30
In the course of AmiWest in Sacramento, which takes place this weekend, Steven Solie has announced, at the request of AmigaOS 4 developer Hans-Jörg Frieden, that starting from November 30, AmigaOS 4 will be availabe for Amiga computers with PowerUp accelerator cards.
The Amiga models 1200, 3000, 4000 and 4000T are supported, provided that they are equipped with a BlizzardPPC or CyberStormPPC card.
An existing AmigaOS installation is not required, merely a hard disk as well as a floppy disk and a CD drive. When booting from the enclosed floppy disk, the CD-ROM driver will be loaded. Should a system already be installed, the installation can be started directly from the CD as well.
Upon an inquiry on supported expansions, Hans-Jörg 'Rogue' Frieden points out that there will be a hardware compatibility list with all relevant information.
But at the moment, there is a Highway driver for USB, and if he remembers correctly, FastATA and IDEFix as well as similar hardware are supported as well. However, the installation process currently requires that you have
connected either an IDE or a SCSI CD drive to the CyberStormPPC. The SCSI controller of the BlizzardPPC, on the other hand, is not currently supported, so only the IDE port of the Amiga 1200.
Support for other hardware could possibly be added within the scope of an update. With regard to PCI, all Prometheus-esque PCI solutions as well as the Mediator 1200 and 4000 expansions are supported, no "DMA tricks" though. (snx) (Translation: cad)

AmigaOS 4: Epistula parially released under LGPL
The Author of the instant messenger Epistula notified that due to job occupation he virtually cannot continue the development of the programme. Because he does not expect a change ofthis situation in the foreseeable future, teh source code for the ICQ and MSN plugins for Epistula will be released under the LGPL.
The source code of the main programme will be withheld for a while, because a final decision regarding that has not been done yet. Beside the option to keep the source code to take up development at a later date, the author also thinks about relasing the source when a a bounty is reached or sell the rights with some auction.
