IBrowse: Status-Update
Oliver Roberts from the IBrowse developer team has given a survey of the current status of IBrowse on the official mailing list.
The owner of the copyrights Stefan Burström recently moved and therefore has still not an Internet access. Because the server which the team uses and which includes the source codes, changelogs and similar things is hosted by Burström the development currently stands still.
Roberts assures that the project was not canceled - but currently it is necessary to come to an arrangement with Burström which makes a further development possible. (cg) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: Infrared-receiver and Ethernet-Audio "ParIR"
ParIR written by Daniel Westerberg is a hardware/software combination which consists of two parts: On one hand it is a commodity which recognizes infrared siganls with the help of a hardware which is connected to the parallel port and then starts user-defined Cli or ARexx programs.
The second part sends analog audio signals over a an Ethernet cable to a analog multiplier.
Westerberg uses this combination to listen to the audio playback of his AmigaOne in the living room without laying additional cable.
The archive which the author has published includes the software as well as all necessary documentations for recreating the hardware components.

Amiga Arena: Interview wit Hans-Jörg Frieden
On the occasion of the forthcoming release of AmigaOS 4.1 Amiga Arena has intervied the developer and project manager Hans-Jörg Frieden (in German).
In this interview he told that that currently ports to additional PowerPC platforms are in progress and therefore further announcements for the operating system will follow soon.
According to Hans-Jörg Frieden the goal for AmigaOS 4 is still always the embedded section. There are interested firms which want to use the operating system as "Multimedia-Content-Platform".
He himself is specially intersted in systems based on CELL-processors, the PPC 970 by IBM or Freescales 8641(D). And he does not object if there would be a x86-version but he thinks that currenty it is not realizable.

Amiga Walker: A Clarification
Klaus Schwägerl, meanwhile CEO of Die Projektfabrik GmbH, has sent a letter to us at amiga-news.de about the Amiga model Walker, which was shown as a prototype in 1996 by Amiga Technologies at the CeBIT fair in Hannover, Germany. Below you can find a translation of what he wrote:
I'm just moving with my company and that's why I stumbled across the master design model of the Amiga Walker once again. This made me surf the web for a while to look for articles about the Walker. What I read there astonished me and prompted me to clarify some things:
1. The Amiga Walker has not been designed by Frog Design, but by the greatly talented designer Daniel Gilgen on behalf of Stefan Domeyer for my former company KS Design in Frankfurt, Germany. The idea to expand the Walker step by step until it becomes a tower finally originates from Daniel Gilgen. He was the one who built the prototypes for CeBIT from the master design model which I do still own.
2. The transfer of the rights to the product was dependent on the payment of our royalty. As this money was not paid, the rights to the product stayed with KS Design. After closing down KS Design, the rights were transferred to me as a private individual.
3. Merlancia Industries never had any rights to the product. We also communicated that to Merlancia Industries in this way as that company did ask us for a license. At some point the contact to Merlancia has been lost; we don't know whether this enterprise is still active or not.
I hope this can improve the understanding of the case considerably.
With kind regards and a sad feeling
about this project never entering production,
Klaus Schwägerl (snx)

Chiptune-Tracker: Hively-Tracker 1.5 for AmigaOS 3/4
HivelyTracker is a tracker based on the AHX-format (screenshot). AHX was developed in the 90ies to write music tracks which are similar to the typical Chip-Sound of SID (sound chip of the C64). Changes sine version 1.4:
- A parameter in the undo system was declared as a signed byte instead
of a signed word, which meant that some song parameters got corrupted
when they went over 127. Editing songs over 127 positions long was
buggered, for example. Can't believe i didn't spot this until now :(
- Added Protracker mod import. Just like the one in AHX, it simply strips
out all PT commands that are not equivalent to AHX ones, and all
instruments are set to a simple tone, so you'll still have a lot of
work to do to make it sound nice.
- Added a size optimisation feature. It removes all unused instruments,
and duplicate tracks. If you click with the right mousebutton, it'll
additionally try and use the transpose column to remove tracks which
are the same but transposed. However it doesn't know if sounds
continue after the newly transposed track so you may have to manually
fix any problems with that afterwards. Both modes keep the original
version and open a new tab with the optimise version so you won't
lose your work if it messes up. Both modes also use track 0 as the
empty track as AHX and HVL both make smaller files if that is the
case, however, if there are no empty tracks in the module, it won't
keep track 0 blank unnecessarily.
- Added a new command! When "EF1" is placed on or after the last note
in a track, the "transpose" value for that channel will be preserved
until another note is played in the channel. This overrides the
default AHX/HVL behaviour, which is to switch to the next transpose
value as soon as the next position is reached.
- '=' now does row preview, like enter does in protracker
- '-' now toggles horizontal advance in the position editor
- Added "posedadvance", "notejump" and "inotejump" fields to the
ht.prefs file. They don't show up in the prefs window, though, so
you have to edit them manually (run hively 1.5 and quit it to make
them show up in the file). "posedadvance" is either 0 or 1. When set
to 0, horizontal advance is disabled by default.
"defnotejump" is 0 to 9, and sets the default notejump in the pattern
editor. "definotejump" is the same for the instrument editor.
