AROS: Icaros Desktop 1.5.1
Paolo Besser has released version 1.5.1 of his AROS-distribution Icaros Desktop. Now a new kernel is used which will provide more stability and fix the boot problems of some of the motherboards. The keyboard shortcut Control-Alt-Delete activates a cold start, and Control-lAros-rAROS a warm start.
Additionally the update includes the game Ri-Li, the backup tool BackupCopy and updates of several components of the Distribution.
Hint:
Originally Icaros 1.5.1 was delivered with a buggy version of the FAT-handler which could destroy the filesystems on FAT12-/FAT16 media. If you have already installed the update then check if the new version was installed: You can recognize it by looking at the name of the download archive. The name of the new version was completed by an"-1": "IcarosLive_1_5_1-1.7z.exe" instead of " IcarosLive_1_5_1.7z.exe".

NetBSD: Support of Mediator 4000 PCI
The Amiga-port of the NetBSD now also supports Elbox' PCI-busboard (Mediator 4000 PCI) which was developed for the Amiga 4000. The new driver em4k was tested with SATALink 3114 and NE2000-compatible network boards. The support of graphic boards is currently in development.

Party game: Plouf!
Aurélien Gâteau has translated his 18 years old party game Plouf! (written in AMOS) into English and released it under the GPL. Aurélien Gâteau describes Plouf! as "top-down game where players sit on floats, trying to sink the other players by throwing sea urchins at them."

NetBSD: Switching off the Amiga 1200 with Mediator-board via software
With the new empm(4)-driver for the Amiga-port of the operating system NetBSD it is now possible to switch off Amiga-1200-computers which are equipped with a Mediator-busboard 1200 TX or SX with the help of the command line, if an ATX power supply unit is used (video).

Hyperion: Cinemaware classics for AmigaOS-3.1-emulation under AmigaOS 4.1
The game classics developed by Cinemaware have been available for over ten years for free and have been also offered by Amiga Inc. in its emulator package. Now Hyperion Entertainment has made an agreement with Cinemaware to make available these games registered users of AmigaOS 4.1.

AmigaOS 4: Password management AmiSafe 0.9
AmiSafe for AmigaOS 4 is a ReAction-based programm for centrally collecting passwords as well as credit cards and insurance information. It is similar to BeSafe for the Palm Pilot and encrypts the data with the Rijndael-algorithm. The full version can be purchased for 5 US-Dollar.

Real AmiKit: Distribution for AGA-Amigas (beta version)
The well-known distribution AmiKit for users of emulators now was reworked so it can be also used on real Amigas which is called "Real AmiKit".
The original AmigaOS files and Kickstart-ROM of the AGA-chipset and at least 16 MB RAM are required. An accelerator board is highly recommended. Owners of an Apollo-board should use the RemApollo-patch.

USB: New edition of Thylacine canceled
In October all documents on the Zorro 2 plug-in card Thylacine were released which made it possible to recreate the low-cost USB-controller. Users on a1k.org expressed the wish to have the original design reworked and then sold the construction kit at cost price.
Actually during the first eight weeks several revisions of a reworked layout have been presented which the could have been produced as prototypes. After more than one month of silence the initiator "crasbe" explained that he has canceled the project which was called "Nova-Thylacine".
He has suspend the project in order to prevent "screwing up anybodies business". A commercial competing product which "is not or at least not much more" expensive than the Nova-Thylacine will be available "at the latest by the next quarter".

In the forum of MorphZone an interview with Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski was published. He told about computers who he owned until in 2002 he joined the MorphOS-team. Since then he has mainly developed his multimedia library Reggae as well as helped to integrate the programming language Lua to the operating system.

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.83
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interface with up to 128 colours which replaces the Workbench for starting WHDLoad games (.slave, .exe) and requires less memory. According to the developer the programm works with all OCS and AGA Amigas.
Additional to several bug fixes, with the version 0.83 the mouse pointer can be controled with the joystick (important to Amiga CDTV and CD³²).

Text editor: CygnusED with new website and domain
For several years the well-known text editor CygnuesED has been developed by Olaf Barthel and sold by APC&TCP. Now for the programm under cygnused.de a new website was established.
