Telepolis: Lifelong imprisonment becaus of distribution of unused machine time? In this article Birgitte Zarzer reports about the system administrator David McOwen, who provided unused machine time of several computers of the University of Georgia to distributed.net, and thereby catched harshly trouble in return. He will face court in January and possibly will catch very long lasting imprisonment. There are also many Amiga users helping distributed.amiga.org to crack the RC5 key. This worldwide competition is about to crack a 64bit key by calculating all of the 18.4 trillons of possibilities. One can provide unused computing capabilities of the own machine for this matter by using some specified software.
