NGL's system architecture
In the beginning, our initial design was primarily text-based. We wrote a library of text window routines, including editable fields, pull-down menus, and lists. As we were new to a multitasking OS for the PC, we had no idea what kind of performance we would get. At first, we put off any ideas about networking and kept message passing to a minimum. We used an Amiga computer (controlled by QNX via RS-232) to graphically display vessel and ROV positions.
