Von dem Malprogramm PerfectPaint von Halvadjian Georges ist Version 2.925 verfügbar. In dieser Version wurden folgende Merkmale hinzugefügt oder geändert:
- Improve PPM and PBM format.
- Separate Brush, Picture, palette and anim path for each buffer.
- New color correction tool:
- "Adjust RGB level", "Auto RGB level" and pixel count.
- "Chromatic correction" (usefull for chromatic aberration)
- "Optimize palette" and the arexx command:
Will remove unused color from the palette to reduce
the depth of the picture without lost.
Can also sort the palette with unused color in the end.
- Fix somme little bug with CMAP palette, brush album
- Keyboard F10: Now remove not only toolbox window but all floating window.
- Improve text requester
- Number of font in listview are now unlimited.
- Improve turboprint communication (correct Inch are send, Menu and color works well)
- New arexx command: pp_GetDPI
- Improve template requester, with preview.
- Fix a bug (introduced in the last version) with processing tool
- New powerfull processing tool:
MagicSpray, will spray current brush or severall brushes (Magic Album)
with variation of size, color, rotation, shadow ... in real time.

A.D.A.: Zwei neue Intros von Nature
Der Demo-Online-Sammlung "Amiga Demoscene Archive" wurden mit
"Grid 2" und "Zeon" zwei neue Intro-Titel der schwedischen Gruppe
Nature hinzugefügt.
Grid 2: Nature ist eine dieser Gruppen, die stets versucht, die Grenzen der Hardware zu erreichen. Die Intro "Grid 2" wurde auf der Sceneveranstaltung "The Party 2000" veröffentlicht und erreichte den erstem Platz in ihrem Wettbewerb. Genießen Sie diesen coolen Flug durch riesige Tunnel, der mit fantastischer Musik unterlegt ist. Empfehlung!
Zeon: Zeon ist eine weitere coole Intro von Nature, wurde auf der
Mekka Symposium 2001 veröffentlicht und landete auf Platz 2. Code von
Pipe, Yomat und Pezac, Grafiken von Rex und Yomat und Musik von Pipe.

"Der deutsche Bill Gates": Unspektakuläres "Kimbeln"
Der Börsenboom ist vorbei, überall werden die Trümmer zusammengekehrt.
Viel Geld von Anlegern wurde verbrannt, aber Konkretes
wurde nur selten geschaffen. Die Resultate liegen irgendwo
zwischen der Schaffung von neuen Konzernen und Vetrieben
(AOL-Time-Warner, Amazon, ebay) und totalen Pleiten mit z. T.
kriminellen Luftnummern (Lets-Buy-it.com oder Kim (Kimble) Schmitz). Unter dem Titellink lesen Sie einen Artikel über Lars Windhorst,
ein Wunderkind, Hoffnungsträger und Jungunternehmer dieser Zeit,
der schon von einigen als der "deutsche Bill Gates" bezeichnet wurde.
Zwar hatte er etwas mit Computerhandel zu tun, hat aber im Gegensatz
zu Bill Gates nie eigene Produkte veröffentlicht oder gar
programmiert. Seine Bedeutung für die deutsche Computerindustrie
müsste eigentlich irgendwo unter Manfred Schmitt liegen. Das Thema
ist nicht ganz "Off Topic", weil es sehr schön Methoden, Auswirkungen
und Folgen einiger hochstapelnder Computer- und New Economy-Unternehmer
beschreibt. Wer noch immer glaubt, dass ein Kim Schmitz wirklich
reich und erfolgreich war, der sollte sich diese Story mal
durchlesen. Auch Leute, die in einer anderen Liga als Kim Schmitz spielten, haben inzwischen Probleme. (nba)

Veranstaltung: C-One Release-Party am 4.5.2003
Eine Computerlegende kehrt zurück: Der C-One, Neuauflage
des meistverkauften Computers der Welt (Guinnesbuch der
Rekorde), wird am 4.Mai 2003 offiziell bei einer
Release-Party eingeführt.
Der neue Computer wurde von einer Amerikanerin entwickelt: Jeri Ellsworth,
28, begann im Herbst 2000 mit dem Ziel den Commodore 64 mit modernen
Mitteln nachzubauen. Was als Hobby-Projekt begann, zog die weltweite
Aufmerksamkeit der noch heute aktiven Benutzergruppen auf sich.
Seit April 2002 ist die Aachener Firma individual Computers aktiv an dem
Projekt beteiligt. Wesentliche Dinge wurden in enger Zusammenarbeit mit
Jeri Ellsworth verändert, um den Computer flexibler zu machen als je ein
anderer Computer zuvor gewesen ist.
Beim vollkommen neuen Prinzip "reconfigurable computer" verschmelzen
die Grenzen der strengen Trennung zwischen Grafikkarte, Soundkarte
und Prozessor. Der neue Computer ist so flexibel, dass er sich
den Programmen anpassen kann, die auf ihm laufen sollen.
Zur eindrucksvollen Demonstration können nahezu alle Programme
benutzt werden, die für den legendären C-64, den meisterkauften
Computer der Welt (Guinnesbuch der Rekorde) geschrieben wurden.
Der C-One ist dabei um ein Vielfaches schneller, und verfügt
über Standard-Schnittstellen zur Kommunikation mit der Außenwelt.
Modernes Zubehör kann am C-One angeschlossen werden, aber auch
die Peripherie des liebevoll "Brotkasten" genannten Computers der
80er Jahre findet am C-One Verwendung.
Die Firma individual Computers und Radwar Enterprises geben am
4.5.2003 eine Party für den C-One.
Presse und Fachpublikum sind herzlich eingeladen, ins Cafe Bistro Campus, Markt 25, 52525 Heinsberg. Beginn ist um 19:41 Uhr, der Eintritt ist frei.
Jeri Ellsworth war bis zum Jahr 2000 Besitzerin der Ladenkette "Computers
made easy" an der Westküste Amerikas. Sie verkaufte die Läden, um sich
einem neuen Geschäftsfeld zu widmen: Der Entwicklung eines eigenen
Computers. Auch der Diebstahl eines frühen Prototypen hielt sie nicht davon
ab, ihr Ziel weiter zu verfolgen. Zweieinhalb Jahre nach Beginn des
Projektes ist es nun soweit: Der C-One ist fertig - made in Germany.
Die Aachener Firma individual Computers ist bekannt für Spezial-Hardware,
sowohl in Eigenentwicklung, als auch im Auftrag anderer Firmen. Es wird
hauptsächlich Zubehör für Computer angeboten, dessen Namen wir lange nicht
mehr gehört haben: Amiga. Aber auch für den C-64 und heutige PCs werden
Produkte gefertigt. Jens Schönfeld, seit neun Jahren Inhaber von individual Computers, sieht den C-One gleichzeitig als Schritt in die Zukunft und in
die Vergangenheit. "Mit der neuen Technik können wir Computer bauen, dessen
Rechenwerk bei Bedarf vergrößert werden kann, zum Beispiel auf Kosten der
Grafik- oder Musikfähigkeiten".
Radwar Enterprises begann Mitte der 80er Jahre als so genannte Cracker-Gruppe.
Seit 1988 werden Partys organisiert, die in der Szene Kult-Status erlangten.
Aus den Crackern von damals sind die Experten von heute geworden, die den C-One
schon jetzt als die Legende von morgen sehen. Man hat sich daher entschlossen, zu
Ehren des C-One eine Release-Party zu organisieren.

Bluetooth-Adapter am Amiga (RS232)
On a Bluetooth-enabled PC, Amiga Explorer also works with a Bluetooth serial adapter attached to the Amiga serial port. The PC side must support the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile, which makes it possible to select the Amiga side as a standard COM port in Amiga Explorer. Depending on the adapter, no configuration may be required (the adapter attached to the Amiga serial port automatically runs as a "slave"), or, in some cases, the adapter must first be connected to the PC serial port and configured via the included software. Some adapters have a built-in web server which allows for remote configuration.
In either case, no Bluetooth software is required on the Amiga. A 9-pin to 25-pin adapter may be required to connect a 9-pin Bluetooth RS-232 adapter to the Amiga DB-25 serial port connector. Such Bluetooth devices can cost as much as $200.00, and include Blue2Space's blue2link, Sphinx Elektronik's PICO Plug, LinTech's Bluetooth RS232 Adapter, Inventel's BlueAirPlug, Laurde's Serial Port Adapter and SMART Modular Technologies' Blue Lapis Serial Port Adaptor (these devices are not endorsed and have not been tested by Cloanto). NetBSD 1.6.1 veröffentlicht
Das NetBSD-Projekt freut sich, die Verfügbarkeit der Version 1.6.1
des NetBSD-Betriebssystems bekannt geben zu dürfen.
Über NetBSD 1.6.1
NetBSD 1.6.1 ist eine "Wartungs-Veröffentlichung" (maintenance release)
für Anwender von NetBSD 1.6, die die folgenden Updates bezogen auf 1.6
beinhaltet:
Zahlreiche Sicherheitsprobleme wurden behoben.
Einige Performanceverbesserungen wurden eingebunden.
Verbesserte Geräteunterstützung in einigen bestehenden Treibern.
Einige neue Gerätetreiber wurden hinzugefügt.
Der evbsh3-Port wurde in die fertigen Distributionen aufgenommen.
Einige kleinere Änderungen am Userland wurden vorgenommen.
Die NetBSD 1.6.1-Distribution besteht aus dem kompletten
NetBSD-Quellcode, fertigen Distributionen inklusive dem X
Window-System für 40 Architekturen und der NetBSD-Paketsammlung
1.6.1 (packages collection).

Tool: Identify 37.1- Inoffizielle Veröffentlichung
Richard Körber schreibt:
Die Identify-Library dient dazu, Zorro-Karten zu identifizieren und
weitere Systemmerkmale zu liefern. Ich habe das Projekt unter LGPL
auf Sourceforge veröffentlicht.
Vor kurzem hat Thore Böckelmann ein Update der Identify-Library (V37.1)
ins AmiNet gestellt. Diese Veröffentlichung geschah ohne mein Wissen.
Mir ist auch nicht bekannt, was sich in der V37.1 geändert hat. Laut
den Mails von Benutzern, die ich seitdem erhalten habe, scheint diese
Release allerdings fehlerhaft zu arbeiten.
Bis auf weiteres empfehle ich, sicherheitshalber wieder die zuletzt von
mir freigegebene Version zu installieren (siehe URL zum Titel). Ich habe
bereits Kontakt mit Thore aufgenommen und hoffe, dass wir bald ein
offizielles Update nachschieben können. Ich muss mir hier leider selbst
den Vorwurf machen, dass ich nicht genau genug darauf hingewiesen habe,
dass die Weiterentwicklung ausschließlich über das Sourceforge-Projekt
ablaufen soll.

heise: Forschungsfreiheit von "Super-DMCA" bedroht
Der amerikanische Bundesstaat Michigan und sechs weitere Bundesstaaten
haben einer Erweiterung des Digital Millenium Copyright Act
(DMCA)
beschlossen. In dem Ergänzungsparagraphen 3 wird jegliche Literatur
verboten, die dazu dienen könnte, ungesetzliche Kommunikationsgeräte
zum Verschlüsseln, Entschlüsseln oder Verzerren bauen zu können.
Diese neuen Gesetze bekam der Diplom-Informatiker Niels Provos aus
Bad Schwartau zu spüren, der am Center of Information Technology Integration der
Universität von Michigan an einer Promotion arbeitet.
Provos ist für seine Mitarbeit an der Entwicklung von OpenSSH für
OpenBSD bekannt, und er ist Experte für Verschlüsselungstechnologien,
insbesondere der Steganografie. Entsprechend lautet das Thema seiner
Dissertation "Statistical Steganalysis". Niels Provos ist auch
Autor des Honeypot-Daemons Honeyd.
Die neue amerikanische Gesetzgebung hat zur Folge, dass Provos sein
Internet-Angebot auf einem holländischen
Server anbietet.
Ganz bewusst hat er nicht auf einen deutschen Server gesetzt.
"Leider ist Deutschland dabei, ein Paradebeispiel für ein europäisches
DMCA-Gesetz zu installieren, das sämtliche Fair-Use-Rechte an die
Entertainmentindustrie abgibt, Forschung in vielen Gebieten der
Informatik verbietet und Innovationen behindert", erklärte Provos
gegenüber heise online.

Weekly Q&A's mit Fleecy Moss - Runde 6
Das englischsprachige Online-Magazin AmigaWorld hat die Folge 6 der wöchentlichen Fragen und Antworten an und von Fleecy Moss, CTO bei AMIGA, Inc., veröffentlicht (Update, 17.03.2012, cg: Meldung um das eigentliche Interview ergänzt, da das ursprüngliche Dokument nicht mehr verfügbar ist):
1) realize: How do you intend to get people to develop native OS4 apps? ( This is what will make you sink or swim)
Fleecy: By offering direct support to them, a variety of incentives and most importantly, a succesful new platform that both allows them to do what they can't do on other platforms and which allows them to make money and enjoy themselves.
2) Desmon: Why hasn't Amiga.inc stepped into the Amithlon/Umilator argument and taken on the distribution themselves?
Fleecy: It is a very complicated situation in which multiple parties have taken positions that have made it difficult for any solution that is acceptable to all to develop. We are as interested in seeing a resolution as everyone else but a lot needs to happen to achieve this.
3) Dave_P: Why do you still bother? I am serious. With all the mud that is thrown day in day out, the small Amiga userbase, the innuendo and flack. Why exactly do you bother to get out of bed and not take an IT job in the mainstream industry but continue persist with the Amiga against such odds?
Fleecy: We have a firm view of the future that many people find exciting and, despite the volume of noise, most of it is from a relatively small group of people who have a varied set of reasons for making that noise. That is not to say we don't deserve it - we are the first to admit that mistakes have been made but there have also been other circumstances that have made our progress difficult. Luckily, the majority of Amigans have stayed Amigans because they are committed to having the best digital platform on the market and, as with us, we are in it for that target, not for the sight seeing on the way.
4) ssolie: Amiga Inc. has been accused of spreading FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) do to its past announcements and delays in shipping product. Does Amiga Inc. have a policy regarding FUD and if so, what is that policy?
Fleecy: We have made mistakes in our PR and communications strategies. As I have said previously, we are caught between those who want lots of information and those who only want information about shipping products or what they call 'tangible news'. We have been rightly criticised for saying too much about some developments that have not worked and wrongly criticised for others, as in the case of the Nokia Media Terminal and Sendo, both signed deals that fell apart after announcement not because of us but because the products were then pulled by their parent companies.
Our current policy is to make PRs only about things that can be proved. In this way we hope to win back the trust of those who believe we have misled them, although it will annoy those who want more information.
5) Doobrey: With regards to all the FUD and mud slinging, what is your opinion of the legality of MorphOS ?
Fleecy: As an officer of the company, my opinion is that of Amiga Inc. As CTO I concentrate on technical issues and our legal department concentrates on issues of legality.
6) z5: how many people are working at Amiga Inc?
Fleecy: That is internal information and I don't have exact numbers but we operate with a small group of employees and a larger distributed number of contractors.
7) SlimJim: AInc often refer to "internal developers" when talking about what is being done behind the scenes. In contrast to the people working on AOS4, very little is known about AInc's "own" development muscle. Can you give some more information about these famed "internal developers"?
Fleecy: No. Last time we did that, a few of them got mail bombed.
8) Dandy: I can remember of an official AInc-Announcement of July 14th, 2001, stating that "StormC" of Haage & Partner had been chosen by AInc as official developing environment for the next generation Amiga platform. Is this statement still valid?
Fleecy: No. We haven't heard from H&P for over a year now and the last thing I heard was that they were threatening to give up on Amiga and move to other platforms. We are investigating doing our own development environment.
9) alx: In Week 3 Q4, you mentioned how ExecSG was now capable of running OS3.9. Can you confirm that integration of emulation (the main setback) is now finalised?
Fleecy: The test suites for OS3.9 and OS4.0 on the CSPPC are progressing rapidly and despite a few glitches caused by the CSPPC itself, we have found very few problems. The test suites are not complete yet so I can't say it is finalised but we have been very pleased with the performance, stability and compatability so far.
10) jumpship: Is AmigaINC planning on comissioning a standard case for the AmgiaONE? Maybe not for this release, but for the future?
Fleecy: We have discussed it in terms of a marketing identity but there are no firm plans yet.
