Cracker group Digital Corruption: OS3.5 cracked?
Set aside the fact that you shouldn't use pirate copies at all (they are illegal, and severly harm the Amiga), we can only warn of this cracked version, since it contains some nice backdoors for sure (like those viruses that appeared on Aminet recently, which did send out eMails unnoticed). (ps)

Iwin people: Put an End to This!
We have recieved several eMails by people who asked Tulip about the actual state of talks about the Commodore logo. All recieved the same answer by Tulip:

"Dear Sir,

This is not true, the only thing that has happened is,
that iwin has contacted us with this request.
However, we have not even had a first meeting to
discuss this possibility.

Kind regards,
Justine de Jong"

With other words: Except for a request by Iwin, there's nothing to put a hand on. (ps)

geeknews: Q & A with Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner
Q: Will we see a project from Opera to support the upcoming AmigaOS?
A: We will have to wait and see. At this time we do not know what will happen with the new Amiga and what it really means. I have had my share of Amigas in the past and I still have a couple at home so I would love to see the Amiga prosper. At this time, however, we do not know what is going to happen. There have been a lot of announcements without results from Amiga Inc. and we are still waiting to see real results. If they deliver we will consider a port.

geeknews has not forgotten to ask about an Amiga version of Opera. As before, the situation is such that there is no development taking place. (ps)

Dear Stefan,
thank you for your message and interest in the A4000 Power Tower case.
Reading your description of the Power Tower in www.amigaextreme.com,
I have the impression that you must have been a little distracted while
installing Amiga in the new case.

First of all, seeing your photos, it seems to me that you were
installing the Amiga motherboard, the ZORRO board and the turbo card
without removing the side assembly wall.
The Power Tower stands out with its immense ease of assembly with its
removable specially-designed side assembly wall. After removing the
external case, the side wall is removed, which is secured with only two
hexagon screws. The Amiga motherboard, ZORRO III and the turbo card are
all installed onto this side wall when outside the main tower case.

You have stated that a better fixing of the ZORRO III bus board
would be useful and handy in the tower case. Well, it is ready and
waiting, but you seem to have missed it. Three hexagon bushes for
securing the ZORRO bus board are already mounted, with two more
provided in the box with special accessories and which are supposed
to be screwed into the holes in the Amiga motherboard. If you make
use of them, everything must run perfect.
Before the side wall with the Amiga motherboard, the ZORRO bus board
and the turbo card is replaced inside the case, you should have
installed a FDD floppy drive, your hard disks, a CD-ROM, etc... Only
now the side wall with all the electronics is to be mounted inside
the case.

Are you wondering what the STANDBY switch is used for? If you install
some cards in the ISA slots, which are present in the ZORRO bus board,
you can then use this switch :-)

As regards your CVPPC problem, you can order a special short-lenght
front bay for 3.5" devices to the Power Tower 4000. As a standard,
the Power Tower 4000 is sold with bays for 8 x 3.5" devices (1 front
bay for 4 x 3.5" devices and 1 rear bay for 4 x 3.5" devices).
Having ordered a special shorter front bay for 2 x 3.5" devices and
installing it instead of the front bay for 4 x 3.5" devices, you will
quite easily find room for your CVPPC card inside the Power Tower 4000.
You can also remove the front bay for 4 x 3.5" devices altogether, and
mount the floppy drive in any of the 5.25" bays with a 5.25"/3.5"
assembly kit. Your 3.5" hard disks, if you have not more than four
of them, you can then place in the rear bay.

I hope that all your doubts are now cleared. We are sure the new Power
Tower is an advanced design, and the ease of its assembly may be
something completely new to Amiga 4000 desktop users.

Please repeat the installation as I have written it here. I am sure you
will be more than pleased with your case then.
Anyway, if you have any more inquiries, please do not hesitate to
contact our technical support: support@powerc.com or support@elbox.com

Best wishes
Darek Smietana

Iwin plans to present the new computers in Germany
In a posting to csam Iwin states that they will release further technical details on their website within the next two or three days, and that Martin Steinbach has agreed with Thomas Raukamp of the German "amigaOS" print magazine to make a presentation in Germany shortly before the official release date. Thomas confirmed the agreement.
Still, we stay very wary, we can still imagine this could be a well-done hoax, and will only be convinced otherwise when we have seen the promised machines in action. (ps)

Gaddar writes:
In our online magazine, we have opened an area (link: Desktop) for Opus Themes. (Themes are preconfigured layout presets for DOpus 5.8x). The themes already available are looking great and we hope we can upload many more Opus Themes. (ps)

Important info for DraCo users
Computer Corner in Munich just informed us that there is now a new library for Diavolo Pro Terra. So, MovieShop 5.2 users can make backups of their audio and video partitions again.
The library is free for registered users and can be ordered from Computer Corner by eMail.
Phone Computer Corner: +49 - (0)89 / 7141034
eMail address: computer.corner@crevico.com
At the same time, Eiperle CGM informed us that a free update is offered for the CGM DVE Vol. 1 CD-ROM, so the included macros can continue to be used with MovieShop 5.2.
If that ain't good DraCo news for a change. (ps)

Iwin-Corp.

Iwin announces new computers based on Amiga
On the website, two new Amiga-based computers are announced. For one the A510, which is planned as a workstation with Motorola 68k (M-version) or PowerPC (P-version) CPU. The other is the A1010, with special CPUs for Java and multimedia applications added.
More links on the subject: The Register and AmiUpdate interview with Martin Steinbach.

Since the Iwin-Corporation (? I win?) is completely unknown to us so far, we did some research on our own. The domain iwin-corp.com has been registered on June 21st, 1999, by Martin Steinbach, 85375 Neufahrn, Germany. The given phone number is a mobile. The phone register does list neither a Mr. Martin Steinbach nor a company called Iwin-Corporation. The Iwin-Corporation is not registered as a licensee by Amiga. The software named is non-existant. The trademarks A510 and A1010 do already exist.
Due to this, we think this website is a fake. (ps)

Jason Kroll: BeOS Release 4.5
Thomas Wölflick writes:
I have found an interesting article in "Be Magazine" at www.bemagazine.com/articles/beos-4.5.html (title link). There, Jason Kroll writes about the BeOS Release 4.5 in whole, its chances and future.
Especially interesting was the honorable mention of Amiga in the paragraph before the last one. Here, he writes:
..."One impediment to development, and to users switching to BeOS, is that we don't know for sure how secure the future will be. For one thing, Amiga, supported by Gateway, is probably in cahoots with Transmeta, and based on the free Linux kernel, is about to make a monster reappearance, supposedly based on technologies we have never seen in home computers. How will BeOS fare against competition from the rebirth of the original multimedia machine?"...
Preliminary congratulations, fear of an undead, or how would you call it? (ps)
