individual Computers: Demo-party sponsoring and shipping of new products

individual Computers sponsors Breakpoint

For the tenth time in a row, a big Scene-event takes place in Germany at easter time. The well-established successor to the legendary "Mekka/Symposium" parties Breakpoint will make the small city Bingen, Germany, the destination for the whole European demoscene for the fourth time now.

Demos are non-interactive programs that show the capabilities of makers and machine with music, graphics and animation. The special thing about demos is their strict limitation for example in size, which is done in order to achieve comparability in competitions. Demo parties are non-commercial events where entrance fees and sponsor's donations are used mostly to cover prizes for these competitions.

Individual Computers is proud to support this form of art as "silver sponsor" again. An invitation to such a demoparty is of course done with a demo that's available on the party's FTP server as a free download (12MB). If the demo doesn't run on your type of computer, you can also watch the XVID AVI video. At 98MB, it's more than 8 times as big and cannot offer the same picture quality. Even if you can't come to the party, it's worth watching! For fans of the Commodore C64, there's an invitation demo that you can download here as a D64 archive.

New products shipping

The clockport-adapter for the Amiga 500 and the USB-converter for Commodore-keyboards Keyrah will start shipping to our retail partners on monday, march 20th. Please mention your type of keyboard when ordering, because Keyrah must be programmed with your keyboard layout at the factory.

The scope of delivery has also been decided now: Every Keyrah comes with a screwdriver and a 2-meter (6.5 ft) USB cable. Versions for Amiga keyboards come with an assembly kit that ensures contact even to partly damaged foil connectors of the A600/A1200 keyboards.

Customers who have pre-ordered the special edition of the Buddha controller for Phoenix-Amigas will recieve an eMail from us in the next few days. (snx)

AmigaJoker.de celebrates third anniversary
AmigaJoker.de, the self declared "computer forum of the cool generation", is celebrating its third anniversary today. Meanwhile there are more than 350 registered members.

Please read the following official statement of Amiga-Joker.de:

Three good Years?

Since exactly three years now we make you happy, us and the rest of the amiganized world with the "computer forum of the cool generation". And they were three really exciting years: It is up to the German ministery of statistics to recalculate all the events and stories. ;)

Finally we have enjoyed so many highlights and sometimes we were angry with several discussions. We could experience various trends and the birth of new hard- and software jewels - in the Amiga as well as the pc- and console area. Above all we have seen how a small fan bulletin from the user "grand_diablo" with his "PC Joker Forum" and a few users have changed to a bigger and pleasant community of Amiga-, pc- and console users, 350 members so far, after their move to AmigaJoker.de.

I want to thank you in the name of my moderators and I hope this community will be still alive for a long time! Of course wishes and suggestions are always welcome - as well as helping hands for their realization!

How could it be different as there is a lottery in the tradition of the joker called "the millions' joker lottery"! You will find it at: AmigaJoker.de -> Sonstiges -> JokerGames -> Joker-Millionspiel. Please read the text very CAREFUL! ;)

I wish you a lot of fun with AmigaJoker.de so far and hope you will still heavily join the community. Should you face problems with your account, please send an e-mail.

Regards Brork (snx) (Translation: ts)

On September 30th and October 01st 2006 the Classic-Cpmputing 2006 takes place, this time in Nordhorn, Lower Saxony.

On about 1.100 square meters users, clubs, vendors and collectors of history computers from all over Germany, Benelux and many other Countries will meet. Beside the possibility to play with one of the many arranged computers and consoles, you may inform yourself about repair and maintenance of your "oldtimer" through members of the "Verein zur Enthaltung klassischer Computer" an other Collectors and trader. You may also trade or buy whole computers, games or accessories from traders or private sellers. A large number of collectors, vendors, and the "retro-press" have already announced theirs participation. Of course, not only members but also all friends of classic computers are invited.

A special emphasis is put on the still very actibe Amiga sceme this year, so many vendors and users may be expected. But also friends of other computers will sure not be dissapointed. Traditionally, like every year many MSX-computers, Commodore 8 bit computers, Ataris, old Apple-computers and historic professional computers from the time before windows will be there to be seen and experienced.

Admission for visitors is 2 EUR. But there are also very attractive fees for traders, collectors and second-hand dealers, to make this a real mega-event-

MorphOS: Package Manager MorphUp 1.0 (Bounty Release)
After six months of development Rupert Hausberger today released version 1.0 of his package manager MorphUp. This Version meets the terms of the "Bounty" posted on morphzone.org. The author thanks all donators and those who support the project in other ways.

Introduction

MorphUp is the result of the ezPM bounty, released on morphzone.org. So far, when installing a new application, AmigaOS/MorphOS users often had to visit various internet pages and download, unpack and install several archives manually. The packet manager MorphUp is to take over this time consuming and error-prone process from the user.

MorphUP consists of two parts: the "Generator" used by developers to create so-called "packages", archives which contain the actual software. Those packages can be hosted on any HTTP server. The MorphUp client then assumes the download and installation of those packages on the computer of the user.

Features of MorphUp

Package system:
  • Packages can be grouped by type.
  • Theoreticaly unlimited packages per group and unlimited dirs/files per package.
  • Can handle file size up to (the DOS limitation of) 2 GB.
  • Extraction of files without the need of unpacking the whole package.
  • Real directory structures in packages.
  • 3 different package types:
    • Full packages, to transfer a huge amount of files at once.
    • Single packages, to safe bandwitch if only a few files need to transfered.
    • Link packages, to refer to other archives.
  • Full packages automaticly split into parts if they grow too larger while generation.
  • Dynamic block compression based on zlib.
  • Fully asyncron, any function can be aborted at any time. The task-priority can be set for each asyncron function.
  • Differentiation between system and application files.
  • Fast installation, uninstallation, extraction and convertion routines.
  • Tag-based saving to easy add things later.

Graphic User Interface:
  • Multithreaded MUI applications, can handle multiple indexes at same time.
  • Many editing functions like: add, remove, makedir, add recursive...
  • Cut&Paste edit mode, even over different packages.
  • Dynamic context menus everywhere, even in list-titels.
  • Full locale support.
  • Disabling of unwanted indexes, package classes and packages.
  • Setable colors, styles and dateformat in all listtrees and lists.
  • Controlable through application menus, contextmenus, keyboard.
  • Detailed information groups for packages and files.
  • Toolbar with replaceable icons.

Other:
  • Configurable datatype system with MIME-support.
  • Configurable data classes system, to avoid hardcoded paths.
  • Configurable package classes system, to avoid hardcoded paths.
  • Uses XAD system to support many types of archives in link packages.
  • Packages can have a picture, any size and type is supported.
  • Multilevel log system with possibility to log to disk.
  • Small memory usage.

New Edition of the SUBWAY USB-Controllers
Due to the high demand E3B is happy to anounce a new editon of the reknown and popular USB controller SUBWAY for the Amiga Clockport. Production could commence before the research period of Michael Böhmer and is already revved.

The new edition is supported actively by the former competitor on the USB market. Massimo Mancini - designer of the UltraBUS, unfortunately produced only as a prototype - has ceded its store to E3B and therefore enables a smooth reissue of the SUBWAY, which otherwise almost had failed due to the sales policy of the semiconductor industry and their germand distributors respectively.

As before, Chris Hodges popular USB-Stack Poseidon will be included in the 2.x version. The convenient upgrade-offer, E3B will take over part of the liscencing costs, also applies to the reisued SUBWAY modules and so far is available only for E3B products in the section of USB controllers for the Amiga.

E3B will announce the beginning of shipment for the SUBWAY as usual on the popular news pages. It is already a fact, tha SUBWAY will be available at al major Amiga vendors worldwide. As a novelty, this time distribution for chosen countries will be handled through individual computers to enable al vendors to purchase at low cost (thus enabling low consumer prices).
