Press release: The Amiga Future 73 (July/August 2008) has been released. This means that all subscriptions, pre-orders and dealer supplies have been shipped. Now it's out of our hands and up to the postal service when the magazine actually gets to you.
In this issue you'll find recent reviews of OWB, MySpellChecker, Sputnik, Deneb and lots more. Needless to say the specials like Game Endings or a report about Jagged Alliance are also in this issue. Also in the magazine, we have interviews with the makers of NatAmi and Thilo Köhler.
You can find a more detailed description of the full content on our website.
As always on the Amiga Future cover CD you can find lots of PD software and some full versions like Hoi, Clockwiser and Real3D.
Amiga Future is available as a German and English print magazine directly from the editorial office and also through some Amiga dealers. Amiga Future is also available as a single issue or by subscription, each with or without a cover CD.
We ask all interested users to order this issue as soon as possible because we print only a few magazines additional to the subscriptions and pre-orders.

MorphOS: AppendDate 1.3
AppendDate by Grzegorz Kraszewski is a CLI tool for inserting a date into file and directory names. Version 1.3 can insert the date not only at the end of file, but before the original name as well.
It has also smart name extension detection mode, where the date is inserted right before the extension. A serious bug has been also fixed, causing program crash when month or weekday names were used in the date template (snx)

MorphOS 2.0: Transparency-patch Lucy
The new transparency functions in MorphOS 2.0 cannot be set for all windows but must be started by the applications. The patch "Lucy" written by Matthias "UltraGelb" Böcker uses this function to make currently inactive and/or unfocussed windows translucent. Lucy requires MorphOS 2.0 and enabled 3D Layers.

Information, tools and screenshots about MorphOS 2.0
If you cannot test MorphOS 2.0 at Youtube you can find a Video which demonstrates the operating system. Martin "Senex" Heine has published some screenshots at Photobucket.
Michal "Kiero" Wozniak has published a tool called Scube (159 KB) which demonstrates the new 3D-functions of MorphOS.
MorphOS 2.0 has still some bugs:
- There are not any working audio driver for Efika motherboards
- SCSI-devices are not always recognized correctly
- There are some problems with certain Pegasos-/Radeon-combinations (e.g. a Pegasos 2/G3 with Radeon 9000 Pro)

AmigaOne: Linux-Kernel 2.6.18
Under the title link Gerhard Pircher has published the Linux-Kernel 2.6.18 for AmigaOne-computers. It contains a workaround for network lockups (for the built in ethernet only), where the machine locks up after the first dozen of MBs have been transfered.
Unfortunately the network data corruption couldn't be fixed: The update only improves ethernet operation.
Suggestions are very welcome. Installed Mac-on-Linux-moduls of version 2.6.18 should work.

AmigaOS 4: Jagged Alliance 2
is a round based strategy game with roleplay elements. There is an open source SDL-port of it called ja2-stracciatella (screenshots: 1, 2, 3).
Hans-Jörg Frieden has ported the game to AmigaOS 4. The latest version of AmigaOS Richard Rummond's libSDL-port as well as the English original version of Jagged Alliance 2 are required. The author is going to publish further languages and invites you giving a little bounty as support.
The AmigaOS-version is a full port of ja2-straciatella 0.9. SDL may cause a Grimreaper at the beginning of the game but which you can ignore - the bugs is knwon. Should the game itself crashes it may help if you delete all files in the directory data/temp. You can get further information on Hans-Jörg Frieden's website. (cg) (Translation: dr)
