Lawsuit: settlement agreement between Amiga and Hyperion published
In October, Hyperion had announced that it had reached an agreement with Amiga Inc. regarding the rights to AmigaOS 4. A few days ago, the actual settlement agreement between both parties has been published in the court archives as part of the judge's recent order to accept the agreement and close the case.

The most important points of the agreement are:
  1. Hyperion is the sole owner of the operating system they are distributing, excluding the parts derived from AmigaOS 3.1 - for which Hyperion will get a new licence from Amiga Inc. (see below)
  2. While Amiga Inc. is described as the "sole owner of the software 'AmigaOS 3.1'", they exclusively license most rights associated with the product to Hyperion, including the right to sell AmigaOS licenses to other parties.
  3. Amiga Inc. may only distribute AmigaOS 3.1 bundled with "gaming content" - and only as long as it is not modified and the user interface of AmigaOS is never shown to the user. An example mentioned in the contract is a retro games console, but the games/WinUAE bundles distributed through Amiga's shop would also fit this description.
  4. Hyperion now has an exclusive license to the "Amiga OS" and "AmigaOne" trademarks. Both parties may use the "Boingball" on their products.
  5. Existing licensees (e.g. Cloanto) are not concerned with this agreement.
The agreement, which is signed by Bill McEwen for Amiga und Evert Carton for Hyperion, does not describe what kind of compensation - if any - Amiga Inc. recieves in return. (cg) (Translation: dr)

MorphOS: OWB 1.6 inclusive Flash-Plugin
Fabien "Fab" Coeurjoly has published a new version of the Origyn Web Browser for MorphOS. Besides other changes (siehe Readme) a graphical use-interface for blocking contents was added, the download manager was improved. As usual there are two different versions: OWB-nosvg without support of the SVG-format. This version requires a little bit less memory.

The Flash-Plugin which is based on swfdec and developed by Coeurjoly was now published. In the past the author always pointed out that it was a test version because the available open-source Flash-decoder are still not sufficient for day-to-day need. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Software-News: Game Chips, Text editor Annotate 2.7, MPlayer-GUI 1.47

AmigaOS 4: Game Chips

Chips is logic game written by Ventzislav Tzvetkov where the player have to build a computer from the chips placed around the professor's laboratory. After for AmigaOS 3 there is now also a version for AmigaOS 4 with improved graphics and animationens. Additionally the game can be played in a window modus.

Text editor: Annotate 2.7

The open-source text editor Annotate is available for all Amiga systems. For the first time there is also a version for AROS. Further changes in version 2.7:
  • Annotate can now be compiled for MUI instead of ReAction! The OS4 version uses ReAction since it looks better and has more features under OS4. All other targets are compiled for MUI but can be compiled for ReAction/ClassAct as well.
  • AROS is now supported
  • Added simple project support. This makes it possible to save and load a project file which will contain the current configuration of opened files and their editors/windows. Makes for a quick way of reopening all the files and windows you were working on yesterday, or before a crash
  • Annotate's editors are now AppWindows which means that you can drop icons on them to open files
  • Having a requester opening when Ann is started from Workbench is now optional
  • Realtime update of colors in the editor when they are changed from the Config
  • Added an expiration date to the "remembered lines"
  • Fixed the auto-update function so that it will download the correct binary for your OS (Will of course only work the next time)
  • Pasting an text that started with a linefeed at the end of a line didn't work correctly
  • Possibly fixed some random garbage that could have been inserted when cut'n'pasting vertical blocks with empty lines in the middle

AmigaOS 4: MPlayer-GUI 1.47

MPlayer-GUI is a Reaction based graphical user-interface for the video player MPlayer. Changes in version 1.47:
  • Made use of application.library which now also takes care of sending the filenames to an already opened MPlayer-GUI
  • Found a cool feature in intuition. Have compositing enabled and you can't miss it ;-)
