TCP stack: Roadshow 1.12
Press release: The Roadshow TCP/IP stack for the Amiga has been updated to version 1.12 and is available immediately. An updated demonstration version is available too, as well as the updated software development kit.
A free update is available for customers using Roadshow 1.11, upgrading it to version 1.12. Note: if you are still using Roadshow 1.8 you need to upgrade to version 1.11 first before you can upgrade to version 1.12.
The changes in Roadshow 1.12 are as follows:
- A buffer overflow bug has been fixed which could occur when
querying network interface hardware addresses. This bug could
cause the "ShowNetStatus" command to crash.
- The ftp command has been reworked, fixing bugs which had been
present for years (buffer overflows, etc.).
- Overlapping name resolution operations can no longer collide
with each other so easily and produce corrupt query data. This
problem could occur only very rarely.
- New API functions for name resolution have been added, which are
common in the Unix world, for which no alternatives had been
available before. These enhancements are new for Amiga
TCP/IP software in general.
- If Roadshow sets up a network interface using the DHCP protocol
it can now request that the DHCP server sends its responses
directly to Roadshow (unicast) instead of broadcasting them to
the local network.
- Changing the system clock time (e.g. during daylight saving
time transitions) no longer affect Roadshow's internal
time keeping.
- A new ready-made network configuration file for PCMCIA cards
using the "cnet16.device" driver is provided under
"Storage/NetInterfaces/CNet16").
- The reference documentation has been updated.
More detailed descriptions of the changes can be found in the "ReadMe" file of the Roadshow archive, and the SDK archive.

AmiWest: Dickinson and Solie talk about A-EON's and Hyperion's current projects
This year's AmiWest is taking place in Sacramento (USA) this weekend. The first presentation was a joint effort of Trevor Dickinson (A-EON) and Steven Solie. The latter was introduced as the "AmigaOS team leader", which he confirmed by replying "for now, hehe". Actually, Solie had stopped describing himself as "Team leader" a while ago and only referred to himself as the team's spokesperson, while Costel Mincea was supposed to act as Hyperion's technical director.
Dickinson and Solie gave short talks about A-EON's and Hyperion's current projects and then answered questions from the audience. The following topics were discussed during the presentation:
AmigaOne X5000
Dickinson officially announced the X5000 going on sale. Solie confirms that the Release Candidate of AmigaOS 4 for the X5000 is currently being tested and will be shipped with the computer. The onboard network controller is not supported yet, a replacement network interface card will be delivered with complete systems though. According to Solie, Multicore support has been deferred so the team could concentrate on finishing the X5000 port, but will be the focus once the X5000 version is shipping.
The cheapest complete systems will ship for 1700 GBP, which would be about 1900 Euro (excluding taxes and postage). Dickinson states he brought two bare X5000 motherboards to the show, which can be bought by visitors for 1350 USD (about 1200 Euro).
Tabor
The Tabor motherboard is currently booting into Workbench. The developer assigned to it is working hard to get it to a state where the rest of the team can help with the porting. Dickinson says the target price for Tabor is "below 400 Euro", the boards will be sold at net cost. A-EON is hoping that the increased userbase will result in improved software sales, which is how Tabor is supposed to make them money.
AmigaOS 4
The OS team is also working on "AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 1", a Release Candidate is curently being tested. Solie expects it to be released before the end of the year. Only one feature of the update is mentioned: extended memory is supposed to work properly now. While AmigaOS can still only adress two gigabytes of memory, up to four gigabytes are supported now and will be used by modules like the Ram Disk.
LibreOffice
The port of LibreOffice is said to be "usable" now, beta testing has just started. A copy of the office suite is apparently installed on one of the machines at the show, so that visitors can have a closer look.
Gutenprint
A-EON acquired Timothy 'Terminills' Deters' sources of his AROS port of Gutenprint, Tony Wyatt is working on adapting it to AmigaOS 4.
Amiga Enhancer
Work is ongoing on both a port to AmigaOS 3 and an update for the PPC version. Additionally, a cheaper version will be released that is not containing any of the parts that are not compatible with or useful on weaker machines - Warp 3D Nova is mentioned as an example.
A.l.i.c.e.
The laptop with preinstalled emulator environments will include officially licensed copies of both Amiga Forever and the Final Edition of AmigaOS 4.1. Additionally, a MUI license has been acquired from MUI's original author, Stefan Stuntz. Dickinson estimates that the cost of the entire package would be "a couple of hundred Euro" higher than that of the original laptop, due to all the software licenses. Assuming the laptop would cost 450 Euro, he thinks it might be possible to sell A.l.i.c.e. at 650 Euro.
Miscellaneous
Using amigadeveloper.com, A-EON is currently managing 50 projects with 22 paid developers working on them. The SVN repository has recieved 2885 commits so far. 900 customers registered for Amistore and purchased about 3000 items. Amistore is currently offering about 50 titles. (cg)

Trevor Dickinson hoping to present LibreOffice at AmiWest
On September 16th Trevor Dickinson (A-EON) attended the Amiga & Retro meeting in Adelaide. In his presentation from minute 20 he also talked about LibreOffice and hoping that the software, which is financed by him and developed by the Frieden brothers, can be introduced at the AmiWest (8./9. October, Sacramento, USA) running under AmigaOS 4.

French MorphOS group established file archive and and small ads platform
For some time WArMUp ("World Association of MorphOS Users") provides a separate archive for MorphOS software, which is supposed to replace the closed MorphOS-Files and wants to become a competition to the Aminet: MorphOS Storage offers screenshots, links to Youtube videos and a comment function.
Simultaneously the maintainer also has established the MorphOS Store, which is a snall ads platform for MorphOS users: Registered users can publish offers and requests in different categories for hardware and software. The website is available in different languages but currently the English and German translations are incomplete - the maintainers would be grateful for any support.

MOD-Streaming: AmiModRadio 0.994
AmiModRadio can play over twenty thousand music moduls from the Aminet. In version 0.994 now almost all parts of the graphical user-interface are working, the lists with directories, files and mods are presented in different windows and the "auto-ban"-function leaves out lowly rated moduls. Besides, some minor bugs have been fixed.
AmiModRadio is free software, the C source code is available on Bitbucket. The author asks the users to use its bugtrucker for reporting bugs.

A-EON is going to start delivery of X5000 soon, first price information
Apparently, the first customers who expressed their interest in an AmigaOne X5000 are contacted (German) by their distributors and asked for an advance payment for the computer. Shipment is allegedly (German) starting in a few weeks. Customers who got contacted describe (German) the prices like this: Depending on the configuration, a complete system will cost 2300 to 2500 Euro, a naked motherboard will cost 1700 Euro.

AROS: StackMon 0.1
For his own needs, Yannick Erb has written a little stack monitor based on the source codes of SysMon to see, "how much stack my apps are actually using".
After launching the programm, "just select the task/process you want to look at. If task/process is not in the list click on Refresh button or select auto refresh (task list will be updated every second)." After choosing the tasks/processes, you get two information: The currently used stack (used in the last 20ms) as well as the maximum ("measured while the current task is selected").

Playable previews: Bridge Strike and Small Cars Drag Race
"Bridge Strike" (Youtube video) developed by the Tanks Furry authors is a vertically scrolling Shoot'em Up. The first demo version requires an Amiga with 68020-processor and one Megabyte RAM. It is a very early beta version, the authors recommend to start the game without startup-sequence. So far Bridge Strike was successfully tested on an Amiga 500 with Kickstart 1.3 and on an A600.
S.C.D.R. ("Small Cars Drag Race", Youtube video) simulates a drag racing, where two cars compete. The game was developed on an A500 with one Megabyte RAM.
