Recall of the CD-ROM version Digital Almanac II
To the owners of the CD-ROM version of Digital Almanac II (V1.8.8):
Unfortunately the CD contains a bad bug. Amigans using OS 3.1 are particularly concerned. In this case installing
the main program from CD to harddisk will fail. So if you are belong to this group of people (approximately 15 CDs sold)
you may have the CD exchanged by sending it, along with DM 3.- in stamps (return-postage)
back to the author (not your retailer !!).
If you own OS 3.5 and if the installation doesn't start by double clicking on the installation icon, copy the
Installer V44 (!!) from your OS 3.5 CD-ROM to your harrdrive, to C: for example. As said before:
This exchange can only be claimed by people owning OS 3.1 and the Digital Almanac II (V1.8.8) CD-ROM version.
A new update (V1.8.9) is available at the author's homepage. The Aminet upload will be available as soon as
Paderborn will be online again.

nullsana.device
There are news about a new Sana2 driver called "nullsana". The device can interconnect its units to connect a
Macintosh TCP/IP stack with an Amiga TCP/IP stack. Thus it works similarly to vlink.device.
However the new device is faster, more flexibly configurable and is conform to the newest Sana2 V2 standard
including package filter and mutiple opened units. The device can be configure as Ethernet, SLIP, CSLIP and Loopback.
Ethernet RAW Frames for Shapeshifter are supported. Sana2 statistics are computed. Since Aminet Paderborn is down
you can download the device here.

PC-Welt: Burned by the joystick
"A part of the Nintendo 64 games collection "Mario Party" may cause hand injuries. This has been confirmed by
the US central of the game's manufacturer. Every owner of the video game will now be provided with security gloves
in the USA.
Following a statement of the New York federal prosecutor, many parents have complained over "Mario Party" at Nintendo
in the USA. They say their kids have injured their hands while playing at it. Parents report several kinds of
injuries like burnings, stitches, cuts etc..."
Nintendo have now agreed to deliver four fingerless gloves ,which are reinforced at the palm, to each
american Mario Party customer. This engagement may cost Nintendo up to 80 million dollars. Furthermore the
company will pay for the 75,000 dollars which cost the investigation by the federal prosecutor.
A call at the hotline 0130/5806 from our part showed that there have been no cases or complaints arround
here, at least for the moment. So this may simply be a too early "April Fool's" joke.

New Executive Update
A new Executive Update has been posted:
March 10, 2000
Dear Friends:
With all of the continuing rumors out there, one would think that we
were gone, or just spending the money that we raised on homes in
Hawaii, or doing nothing.
I can assure you that this is not the case. As mentioned in the
previous update, if you do not read it here do not believe it.
This months letter is going to be a long one, and I apologize in
advance for the length. There is a lot of information here so take
your time.
Recently I received an e-mail message that brought to my attention a
sad reality.
When Gateway purchased Amiga in 1997 they made many promises, and in
fact there were 6 different product announcements during their tenure.
I was involved with two of them, QNX, and Linux.
While I believed that we were going to deliver on the two product
versions that I was involved in, they did not materialize, and it has
hurt many of you. The decisions to change or alter either of these
announcements was not mine, but I was a part of the team that was
involved in both. For this I am very sorry.
It is because of the reasons mentioned above that I promised not to
say anything or announce anything until it was done, and ready.
I know that this is difficult, especially with the number of great
people and Amiga companies who are feeling the continued strain, but I
did not want to have us all go through any more false starts, and
undelivered dreams.
April 1, 2000 is the date, and St. Louis is the place. This is the
first opportunity for ``your'' Amiga company to present, demonstrate,
speak, and see the first product to come out of Amiga - The new
Developer System. In fact one lucky show attendee will win one of
these systems.
With all of the above said; Another month, and a great deal of work
has been completed. Many of you believe nothing is happening, I can
assure you that a great deal has been occurring.
Amiga - ``So the World May Know''.
There have been some great new hires, many new partnerships and great
progress as we are moving forward. There is more information about
them mentioned below.
Partnerships
Tao-Group
The first of course was the announcement with Tao-Group which has
been moving along great. In St. Louis we will be showing the first
round of the Amiga/Tao system. There is a great deal of work to be
done, but we are far enough along to launch the new developer system
for Tao at the show.
Haage & Partner
We have entered into a long term relationship with H&P that will
provide API's and a path towards to the future OS. This includes new
updated versions of Storm IDE. They have also committed to porting all
of their software to the new platform.
We are also excited to work with H&P on a new version of the WarpOS
that will allow the new Amiga to run on PPC accelerator cards. This
means that an Amiga that has a PPC card running WarpOS will be able to
run the new Amiga on that card! That's right. The new Amiga running on
the current A1200s!
More on H&P will become public as we continue to move forward and
work through the testing programs.
We are very excited about this relationship.
Hyperion
Hyperion and Amiga have entered into an agreement for the porting of
the existing and new games to the new Amiga. This along with the great
work that Ben and his team have done in working on a new 3D gaming
engine for the new Amiga. They have been working very closely with the
Amiga development team and Tao-Group to make the development of games
for the Amiga a cut above the rest. We are very pleased to be have
them as members of the new team.
Epic Marketing
Thomas Steiding has been a great supporter from the beginning. Epic
has announced that not only will they be making their games available
on the new system, but that they have secured the rights for many new
games. More on Epic with a follow on announcement later.
There are many more partnerships that will be revealed in St. Louis
with even more exciting news.
E-Mails
Where to start. I continue to receive hundreds of e-mails everyday,
and while I am not the only one on the team who seems to be living on
e-mail, we have not been able to answer as many as we would like.
We are listening, and working on many of your comments. Here are some
of your concerns and what we have been doing to help:
Phase 5 and their recent changes.
We have been in contact with Mr. Thomas Dellert, and Mr. Stefan
Domeyer, and we are working with both DCE, and Met@box to provide
solutions for the Amiga market and we expect some great news soon. I
can say that the conversations have been going very well, and we look
forward to working towards an exciting future with both of these
companies.
One of the key benefits with the relationships that we have been able
to strike with both of these firms is their long term commitment to
Amiga.
According to our initial conversations, and project plans we are
working to ensure that the new Amiga will run on both of the PPC
boards supplied by these companies.
We will be providing more detail in product announcements from both
firms.
Dealer and distributors have been contacting us about their current
situations and future plans.
In response to the many requests we have created the Amiga Dealer
Network, or ``A D N''. Randy Hughes our VP of Sales (more about him
later) sent out an e-mail message to over 300 dealers, and the
response has been fantastic. Many dealers are ready to begin carrying
the Amiga again, and more are very excited about the future. The A D N
is a way for us to better communicate our plans, hear concerns, and
work together to create a stronger Amiga. As I am sure that you will
see there are great things to come from the A D N.
Remember that we plan on being able to run the New OS on PPC boards.
Does your machine support that option?
Developers and the future development plans.
Training sessions at Tao-Group have been continuing for some months
now, and we have a better relationship today than when we started, and
we are more convinced than ever that our decision was the right one.
There will be opportunity in St. Louis for others to see the
Tao-System at work, and we look forward to seeing all of you there.
We also will be having a developer meeting in St. Louis on March 31st
at 7:00pm. This is a developer only meeting, and we will be giving
information about the hardware, software tools, and the developer
support program. We know that there is going to great interest in this
seminar to plan ahead and get there early as space is limited.
Please check the St. Louis show site, and the Amiga sites for more
information.
Communication with the Amiga Community.
We have contracted with Equinox Design to create the new ``Amiga
World'' newsletter. This will be available for free to all of the
Amiga community.
Initially this will be made available via the Internet from our new
website and then (if demand merits) we will make a printed version.
This is not in anyway in competition with the existing Amiga
publications that currently are in print. This instead is targeted as
a newsletter designed as a vehicle to help the community communicate
better together. The Editor of Amiga World is Fletcher Haug, the
former Editor and Publisher of the Amiga Informer. The first edition
should be available within the first two weeks of April.
There are no advertisements, and we are using this as another method
to get information out to all of you, and to help the publications
that we have today.
More Communications with the Amiga Community.
As mentioned in the past update, I have reactivated the AAC. There
have been some great discussions and great ideas to come out of the
conversations to date, and they will be a great help in the future as
we move forward. The members of the AAC are:

New Faces for the Team
There are many new people at Amiga, and we are excited about the team
that we are continuing to build. Below you will find some specific
detail on certain team members, here you will find the names and
descriptions of the folks that I get to work the most closely with.
Randall P. Hughes - VP Sales and Strategic Business Development
Randy comes to us after being the VP of Sales at a very exciting Java
technologies company ThinWeb. Randy and I worked together when he was
my primary contact at QNX. He is a very skilled person with
backgrounds in Banking, and technology. Randy understands the Amiga,
and what the future brings. He has had business dealings with some of
the strongest technology companies in the world. He was the person
that QNX selected to open their first office in California. I know
that you will enjoy meeting him in St. Louis.
Now the official comments that will be going up on the web site later;
Mr Hughes comes to Amiga directly from a Java based start up where he
headed the sales and alliances function from inception to its filing
for IPO on the NASDAQ exchange.
Randy was initiated to the Amiga community as the lead manager
responsible for the relationship with Amiga during his tenure at QNX
where he headed the expansion to Silicon Valley and into Southern
California.
Randy was first and foremost a financier from his days at notable
Canadian financial institutions, namely the Bank of Montreal and Royal
Bank.
Randy was educated at the University of Ottawa, Canada and at
Marlborough College in England.
Vincent P. Pfeifer - VP of Operations
Vince and I worked together for several years at ConnectSoft. Vince
has an incredible ability to deliver products. I have seen him time
and again walk into extremely difficult situations with very hard
headed engineers and stupid marketing people, and deliver amazing
products. I am very pleased that he has agreed to join us.
Here is his official web site description;
Vince Pfeifer has 14 years experience in the computer industry with
the last 12 spent in the software area. Vince joins us from GraphOn
Corporation where, as Vice President of Product Development and
General Manager of GraphOn's Seattle based operations, he oversaw all
Engineering resources for GraphOn's multiple development sites. During
his tenure at GraphOn, sales tripled while product offerings doubled.
Additionally, Vince helped oversee the merger that made GraphOn a
publicly traded company whose Market Capitalization quadrupled in
under a year.
Vince has hands-on experience building and managing software
development operations as well as product management organizations.
Vince has experience with both startup organizations (ConnectSoft,
Exodus Technologies, GraphOn) as well as more established companies
(Symantec).
Why I joined Amiga, by Vincent P. Pfeifer
Other than the belief that Bill McEwen could sell ice cubes to
Eskimos, I joined Amiga to take on the challenge of turning a
company's name and image that has become somewhat dated here in the
United States into a top level, respected company in the computer
industry. As I am coming off a successful venture in helping turn
GraphOn into a publicly traded company with record revenues from the
position of Vice President of Product Development, I was ready for a
new set of responsibilities in more areas than Product Management and
Engineering.
Amiga offers a challenge that I look forward to: build a company from
the bottom up with the benefit of having name recognition and some
technology already in place.
It is an opportunity to do something that I have wanted to do since
my early days at 5th Generation when I sat on the Tech Support phones
and listened to average users try to use relatively complicated
software. I know that it sounds like a religious crusade, but I want
to make computers easier for the masses, and with my position at
Amiga, I have an opportunity to help influence that vision
significantly.
Gary Peake - Director of Developer Relations and Support
My favorite man from Texas. Gary has already put thousands of hours
of his life to support the Amiga, and the community worldwide. Now he
has joined our team in delivering his years of experience and
affection for the Amiga in supporting the efforts of the Amiga
community.
Tarah Mallo - Reception and Office
Tarah is our first line of communication to the outside world. She
has been working with the development team gathering information and
support. As well as helping me to get organized. I will state for the
record that the pictures of the original office were taken ``before''
she joined. Say hello to Tarah the next time you call.
Kari Erickson - Executive Administration
Kari is the person who will keep my life and travel plans in order.
She is who you will get to speak to first before getting me, or any
other member of the executive team. Kari joins us after leaving one of
the very prestigious law firms here in the Seattle area, and I am sure
that you can already feel her pain in having to deal with me on a day
to day basis.
Susan Sutton - Director of Finance and Human Resources
Susan is going to take over the collection of funds, and the paying
of bills.
She is also the person who gets to deal with all of the employee
complaints about Fleecy. Just kidding there are more complaints about
me, than there are Fleecy.
Gordon Stone - Director of Information Services and Information Technologies
We refer to Gordon as the network man. Gordon got his start in
computing by upgrading Amiga memory for recording studios in Oregon.
He has since moved onto operating numerous systems, and is versed in
all that is connectivity. Gordon actually will start in two weeks, but
we wanted to introduce him now.
Operations in Germany - New Members on our team
Markus Grohmann - Order processing and EDP
Markus already has a family history with Amiga, as his brother used
to work with us in Braunschweig. We look forward to working with
Markus.
Barbara Nitzsche - Executive Assistant to Petro
With the addition of Barbara to our team in Germany we will be able
to have Petro out more. Next time you call Langen say hello to Barbara
and welcome her to Amiga.
Members of the Development Team
Dean Brown - Dean founded DKB weeks after the first A1000 came out
and then spent the next 15 years designing and producing all manner of
add ons, expansion cards and accelerators for the whole range of Amiga
computers. He brings a deep understanding of the spirit and reality of
the Amiga hardware, along with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of
current and future projects. He will use this to help Amiga and its
partners create multiple hardware platforms for the future.
Dave Taylor - Dave is another scouser, from Liverpool, UK, although
he supports the wrong football team. He has spent the last ten years
designing and implementing distributed manufacturing, control, and
eCommerce systems for small, medium, and large companies across the
globe, on Mainframe, Unix and Windows architectures. The last 3 years
have seen him concentrating on distributed systems, databases, and n
tier commercial systems. He brings commercial world experience,
eCommerce expertise and formal methods with a refreshing new look on
architecture to the company, and was also brave enough to try
snowboarding with Wouter and myself.
Wouter van Oortmerssen - Wouter is a tall, dutch, quake master
currently completing his doctorate at Southampton University. He has
been an Amigan since the early 1990's and is most well known for the
excellent Amiga E language and compiler that grew from a research
project into a professional system. He is bringing a fresh look at
language, conversation and interaction in the new Amiverse.
Andreas Kleinert - Andreas has worked for the last few years
producing public domain, shareware, and commercial applications for
the Amiga, PC and UNIX markets. For the Amiga market, Andreas
concentrated on various graphics and datatype systems before taking up
the challenge of lead developer for the SuperBase database product
line. His deep knowledge of data storage, retrieval and indexing is
core to creating a self describing and multi dimensional amiverse.
Trond Werner Hansen - Some people are leg men, others are face men.
Trond is most definitely a face man - INTERFACE man 8-) Over the last
seven years he has moved from small programs to enhance workbench,
through completely reimplementing layers.library as SuperLayers, to
developing a NG Amiga workbench system. With configurability and
simplicity being central features for the Amiverse, Trond will be
helping to redefine presentation and participation in digital worlds.
The Amiga Developer Support Network Crew!
Gary Peake <gpeake@amiga.com>
Gary has used and beta tested on most Commodore/Amiga computers from
the Vic-20 to the A3000. His organizational, design, and testing
skills will be a valuable asset to providing a unique, forward looking
online developer support system that will set many "firsts" in the
computer industry. And his association with Team Amiga will enable
Amiga Inc. to provide a valuable multi-national scope to Amiga
Developer Support. Gary has many years of experience with online web
applications and will utilize his experience to provide an evolving
Developer Support structure that will grow with us and our Amiga
developers. Gary is also a current member of the 3D Development Team.
Gary will host our first Amiga DevCon in St Louis on Friday March
31st and will be there to answer questions on an individual basis
through April 2nd. The full program details will not be announced
until then, but all developers wishing more information should contact
Gary Peake at gpeake@amiga.com .
For information on the time and place of the DevCon contact Bob
Sharpe at bscharp@icon-stl.net
Ray A. Akey <rakey@amiga.com>
Ray is the creator of CNet BBS for the Amiga Classic and has been
programming for the Amiga for a number of years. Ray's understanding
of all areas of product development from concept to coding to testing
to finished product gives us a unique look at all areas of Amiga
Developer Support needs. Ray's experience with Internet application
programming will prove extremely helpful for the future of the Amiga.
Ray will also be assisting in maintaining some of the online systems
we will employ. Ray currently lives in Canada.
Götz Ohnesorge <gotz@amiga.com>
Götz is one of the most aware Amigan's I know in dealing with
cutting edge products and issues. He has been an Amiga user since they
were first available. Götz is a quick study on high-end multimedia
and new technologies. His expertise in getting the facts quickly and
succinctly will aid us in all areas of developer support. He will be
assisting in keeping information current and available for new
developers in the several online systems we will be providing.
Götz's knowledge of several languages will help the new Amiga
Developer Support System to be truly multi-national. He is a current
member of the Amiga 3D Development Team, as well. Götz currently
lives in Germany.
Jonas Gustavsson <jonas@amiga.com>
Jonas is a long time Amiga user and has excellent experience in
programming, testing and using high-end digital/multimedia
applications. He has worked with 64 bit Alpha's under heavy
multi-media use. Jonas' primary areas of interest is digital graphics,
high-end multimedia, video editing and titling, and he has experience
working in the commercial tv and movie industry as well. Jonas speaks
several languages as well and will be an exceptional asset to the
Amiga Developer Support System in assisting us to be multi-national.
He is also currently a member of the Amiga 3D Development Team. Jonas
currently lives in Sweden.
More information.
We have spending a great deal of time on infrastructure and getting
ready for the next wave.
New Building!
One of the first problems was in the area of Real Estate, we
currently are in 600 feet with us bulging out the walls, and being
located outside of a car wash has its benefits, but it is still rather
annoying with all of the car stereos going at the same time outside
your front door.
We are in the process of moving to our new world headquarters in
Snoqualmie, Washington. The new address will be;
Amiga Incorporated
34935 SE Douglas Street
Suite 210
Snoqualmie, WA 98065
USA
Telephone number +001 425.396.5660
Facsimile number +001 425.396.6551
We officially open the doors and are up and running on March 15th,
2000. However we will begin moving equipment, phones, servers, etc on
Monday March 13th, 2000. This means that it may be more difficult to
get in touch with over the next few days. We apologize in advance for
any hardship this may cause.
New Web Site!
This is one of the number one items on the list, and the largest
number of ``comments'' that we receive from the community.
We have been in process building a new web site for some weeks. The
difficulty has been server location and time. We have now addressed
both of these issues and we plan to have a new site up in the next
couple of weeks.
A web site is a constant work in progress, so we look forward to your
comments, and will continue to try and enhance the experience.
Final thoughts.
This letter does not cover all of the activities that are and
continue to take place. There is so much more happening that I could
spend days writing and still not keep up with it all.
We are extremely busy here, and could not be having more fun. The
company and the people who have contacted us to support what we are
doing have been in many cases overwhelming. We have several more
partnerships that we are going to be announcing in St. Louis, and we
hope to see as many of you there as possible.
I recently asked a long time Amigan, and a member of the select team
that worked with Jay directly the reason that Jay started this
venture. I have heard many ideas as to what Jay ``really'' wanted to
do, and many e-mails inform me that they know what Jay had planned all
along. While I never had the chance of either meeting, or speaking
with Jay I thought I would ask.
Simply stated ``Jay wanted to build the greatest home computing
experience ever, for under 500.00''. I can tell you that his dream
still lives with every member of this company, and we will deliver on
his dream.
I thank each and every one of you for your continued support, and
look forward to the future.
Keeping the faith,
Bill McEwen, and the rest of the Amiga team (Translation: mb)

Aminet Paderborn down
As many have noticed already, the german Aminet server is down. However only the german server
is concerned. The server in the USA, UK, Italy, Sweden... are still working. Those can be found
on my GUI under the corresponding country flag on the UpLoads-Page.
One thing concerning a personal matter: The switching to SSI of my GUI will be delayed since my
10GB harddrive has broken down. I have been trying for a week now to make it work with the FastATA3 controller.

CD32-Alliance news
Sharks! gets "powered by CD-32 Alliance"
CD32-Alliance will release the game "Sharks!", developed by Digital Design. More news about it can be
found in the CD32 corner.
CD32-Corner updated again
Finally we were able to update the CD32-Corner after over a month. Due to a system failure, most of
our files were deleted or couldn't be found again. But we did it, and the CD32-Corner is back with new
links and the latest news about the CD32.
Request
The team of the CD32-Alliance is looking for CD32-users willing to become active for the CD32
Alliance! Currently, we look for web designers and layouters, to rework the CD32 Corner of the
CD32 Alliance, making it more user friendly and professional looking.
We are also looking for someone to continue updates of the "CD32 Cheats Guide", and someone
to translate this guide to English.
Many many CD32 users sending in news and infos!

Server failure
As one or another might have discovered already, the following URLs are currently unavailable:
www.amiga.ac (search engine) and www.amigatools.net (my homepage). Several e-mail accounts
and websites on www.microsoft.nu and www.intermail.nu as well as several other domains located
on the same server.
Reason: The cable modem connecting the server to the net has suddenly failed Friday evening.
Sadly we have to wait for the provider maintenance to replace it, which will not happen before
Monday. Even this was almost impossible to accomplish. We have created a mirror this week,
however the IP routing is not yet active, and usually takes at least 48 hours (plus time shift
to the US, since the second DNS is running there).

Current infos on the CamX/Camouflage project
Martin Endres is still looking
for developers who want to develop audio/video/MIDI modules for
CamX/Elate. Notation editor, sample editor, Uni-SysEx/editor and so on.
As CamX has a modular concept, several (e.g. notation editors) could
be added to the CamX packet. The user could decide then which editor
he wants to use. Or he can use all at once.

Metabox AG looking for programmers
As can be seen from the subject, we - Metabox AG - are looking for programmers short- and
long-term for reinforcing our software team. We have several full-time job openings.
The location is Hildesheim, Germany. We would prefer persons that already wrote software
on the Amiga, and know the AmigaOS concepts. Of course you are free to apply even if you
don't meet these criteria, if you meet the following:
- Required:
- Sufficient knowledge of the English language, e.g. you should be able to
communicate both verbal and in writing.
- Good to very good knowledge of the C programming language. Other languages, like Java,
C++, Rexx, PERL etc. should at least been touched. You should be able to work with
makefiles and complex source trees.
- You must be a ble to work in a team, following given style guides and programming
rules, working with a preemptive multitasking OS ;-). (This only briefly touches Linux.)
- Helpful:
- The ability to read and understand documentations of electronic parts and devices
(network, CPUs, graphics and common peripherals), and convert them into functional driver
software.
- Knowledge of the AmigaOS concepts.
- Basic knowledge of the 68k assembly language. It is sufficient to read them.
- Knowledge in HTML, and XML.
- A certain resistance to stress :-)
- Working area:
- Everything ranging from ultimate "low-level" subroutines up to applications,
with personal preferences and abilities of course being taken into account.
If you are not yet scared away and looking for an interesting job, you should apply
by e-mail at the following people:
schlote@metabox.de
finkel@metabox.de
A note from the translator: Since this was posted in a German newsgroup, and Metabox
is a company located in Germany, firm knowledge of the German language
wouldn't be a bad idea either. ;-) (mb)

C64 Specialists wanted (repost)
Note from the translator: This is a repost, since I fumbled with the layout
of the original post. Sorry. (mb)
Did the C64 work its charm on you fifteen years ago just like us? Well, probably the Amiga did that...?
The Commodore is out of production. But in the eighties, it was the favourite toy of that generation.
Today, it is catching dust in the basement or is used by a few musicians as strange sound machine. But
perhaps you can help us on our search. Perhaps you know exactly the people we have to ask.
WHO WE ARE?
We are two communications designers from Wiesbaden who grew up with the old C64. We were constantly
blamed for wasting our time with that "thing", instead of doing important things. We now catch up
on this. :-)
WHAT'S THE PLAN?
We want to publish our Thesis by the end of 2000: "Commodore 64 Culture" (working title), researching
this phenomenon. We want to show the culture that grew around the C64, and still exists today: The
8-bit machine as stange sound machine, nostalgic toy, collector's item. Experimental, playful,
multimedia. The accompaining CD-ROM will contain well-known songs as well as C64 emulators for
PC and Mac. A webpage is also planned, elaborating on the multimedia part of the book and linking
to other C64 pages.
WHAT WE ARE INTERESTED IN
We are interested in the world accompaining the C64: The history, technical details, sales numbers,
press reviews, games, crackers, hackers, first office applications, copy parties, the marketing
drive of Commodore, the demo scene, today's SID-Chip fans, the self build hardware extensions,
banner printing orgies, computer "summer camps", the booming software industry of the 80ies,
waiting for datasettes, sore fingers while typing listings and what is left of that today.
WHAT DO WE WANT FROM YOU?
Of course we have to do research. We need your help with that. We are collecting opinions, details,
background information, documentation from journalists, fans and developers. From the submissions,
we will create the compendium of the C64 culture. We are looking for every detail around the "bread box":
Every contact suggestion, whom to talk to, every website we can look at. And of course your story.
HOW TO START?
If you are interested in the project, contact us. Forefront, we want to know what kind of C64 user
you have been or still are. Please describe in a few sentences what you did back then. Of course we are
curious about any kind of stories. And of course we are looking for the answers to the most important
question: Why, do you think, has the C64 been so successful, and what did it start? Afterwards, we
will contact you, and would be happy if you could answer us a couple of questions. If you know someone
who is as interested in this subject as we are, send him this e-mail. In any case, you can subscribe
to our mailing list, if you want to know about our project's progress.
DEADLINE
Submissions should be send until end of April, since our thesis has a definite deadline. Many thanks
for your attention and help.

ProStationAudio Millennium Demo available
The Millennium demo includes a full implementation of iRec, live audio streaming capabilities.
Thanks to iRec, the ProStationAudio mixing console input (RecBus) can be switched between a
local audio board or a remote audio server, accessible via Internet or a LAN. Once connected
(Miami or compatible TCP stack required), iRec lets you record live streams. During the
streaming process, ProStationAudio allows you to monitor the incoming signal and record direct-to-disk.

AHX Ripper News
Kĺre Johansen recently released the absolutely
last version of his AHX-Ripper (THX-Ripper) on his homepage.
Since many of the favourite module ripper are outdated and/or no longer in development, Kĺre
plans to write a new ripper (Serial Ripper). This one will offer a fuctional MUI- (perhaps ClassAct,
AmigaOS3.5) interface and support as many sound formats as possible.
Since this is impossible without support from people with the knowledge about the many sound formats,
Kĺre has opened a mailing list especially for this project.
Subscribe at www.onelist.com/group/sripper/
or send an e-mail to sripper-subscribe@onelist.com.
Of course Kĺre is also open for further suggestions and tips.

Hyperion to port SIN to Amiga and Linux
Hyperion has aquired the license to port "SIN" by Activision Inc. to the Amiga and Linux
platforms. "We are working on completing our Amiga port of Activisions Heretic 2", says Ben
Hermans, Manager of Hyperion. Like Heretic 2, SIN bases on IDs Quake 2, so Hyperion is optimistic
that the port can be completed by second quarter 2000. The Amiga version requires a PPC (WarpOS),
and will support Warp3D by Hyperions OpenGL implementation.

AFD-Copyright News
The AFD-COPYRIGHT Official Support Site had just today its
1000th visitor! This shows that there still is interest in the
"Standard Amiga FD-Software Copyright Note".
The recent visitor boom happened partly due to the fact that
so many Amiga News sites reported about the latest release.
Thanks to all news-webmasters for your support!
I collected some of the sites on the page "What's New?"
If you are interested, you can visit the AFD-Homepage at:

The list of news sites even includes one in Russia - and a Russian
translation will be released as the 15th language soon! Keep the

MorphOS status
After MorphOS got attention by small pictures on their homepage (AmigaNews reported), there is now
a small status report on the project itself:
We are currently working on rewriting as many elemental parts of the AmigaOS as possible directly in
PowerPC code. The tests of the 68k emulation have been finished already for some time, and it works
reliable with Workbench 3.1 and 3.5. CyberGraphX, the CS PPC SCSI driver, the CDrive CD-ROM file
system and other stuff has almost completely been ported natively, to achieve best possible performance
even on the current CS PPC card generation.
The ppc.library has also been completed in a full PowerPC version (means the former 68k part is native,
too), so direct compatibility to PowerUP software is ensured, and available software is working directly
without special MorphOS adjustments. For software adhering to the original PowerUP specs there
shouldn't be a problem at all.
Since everything is running directly on the PowerPC CPU, the infamous CPU context switches for 68k
AmigaOS are removed, so PowerUP software is frequently running faster. Programs with many I/O
accesses or graphics output via AmigaOS can profit from this.
We are just now testing several PowerUP software products, and will soon publish a guideline as
well as a list of successfully tested software, so PowerUP software can employed under MorphOS
without problems.
We are working on a developer release; due to several hardware defects, the release date was
sadly delayed.

Working title: "Audiomaster 2000"
Frank Fenn (Bright Light Software) writes:
We (Michael Ulbrich and myself) have taken on the sources of AudioStream, which were released
on Aminet. The goal is to create an easy-to-use, not too complex sample tool in the style of the
classic Audiomaster IV. We consciously don't implement special functions like 2D/3D spectrograms,
since they are of little use for the home user.
Some features are (or are planned):
- Loader: AIFF, WAV, MAUD, 8SVX, RAW, CDDA, MP3, MOD (converting
modules to samples) (plugin concept)
- Saver: AIFF, WAV, RAW, MP3 (plugin concept)
- Clipboard/Range: Cut, Paste, Delete, Clear, Reverse, support for HD projects
- Audio In/Out: AHI only, no native Amiga audio support (what for)
As soon as the first public version is finished, it will be offered for download on the homepage
above (title link). Of course we gladly accept suggestions.

Ncoder V1.55 released
Speed up under PowerUp. A 5.53 min song will be encoded in 3.31 min
(with PPC 604 233Mhz)! Bug fix for BurnIt Ncoder PlugIn. Large sound
quality enhancement compared with Ncoder 1.50.
Please note:
Under OS3.5 you have to disable Skin display if strange crashes occur.
Wrong installed datatypes are responsible for this. Please use the
datatypes provided with the NcoderCD. DON`T mix WarpUS Datatyes with
PowerUp version. If you use WarpUp make sure that you don`t use any
PowerUp software in background (e.g TurboPrint). DON`T use PPCInstall
in your Startup or Userstartup-sequence!! If Ncoder won`t start under
PowerUp. Please start PPCInstall before you start Ncoder. (PPCInstall
is included on BlizzardPPC and Cyberstorm SystemDisks).

Applefritter: AmigaOS as POP (PowerPC Open Platform)
Applefritter writes: Still no definitive words from Amiga, but chances
are good that AmigaOS will be ported to PowerPC Open Platform.
Nobody knows precise details :-(. Sadly. To me it currently seems
to be the other way round. What I read from the last statements and
interviews with Bill McEwen and Fleecy Moss is that they want to
concentrate fully on TAO and their OS and do not plan to support the PPC.
Haage & Partner maintain silence in this matter. (ps)

Amiga 2K new exhibitors
The Amiga 2K Show in St. Louis will have many interesting exhibitors.
A new Amiga Developer System can be won on the show. Read the complete press release below:
Return-Path: bscharp@icon-stl.net
From: Bob Scharp
Subject: Amiga 2K More Vendors
Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 19:03:10 -0600 (CST)
Amiga 2K
Press Release
February 29, 2000
Prizes and more Exhibitors,
The fifth group of exhibitors is now listed on our web site at:
http://www.amiga-stl.com/show.html
In addition, we have started listing the door prizes on the
prize page.
You could be the winner of a new Amiga Developer System. That's
right, an Amiga Developer System. Amiga Inc. is going to donate
one of their brand new "Developer Systems" to be given away as
a door prize.
Now I know you're going to ask... "What's a Developer System"?
Well... you're just going to have to come to the show to find
out.
Or, perhaps you might win one of two rides in a REAL airline
simulator. What's that you ask? Nothing less than the same
thing all the airline pilots are trained in. That's right, a
real full blown airline simulator with an instructor to show you
the ropes on just how to get one of those huge airline jets
off the ground, and of course back on the ground. Lot's of
knobs, swithches, buttons and they all work. Not like a
computer simulator where you move some wimpy joy stick or click
the keyboard. This is the real thing. You sit in the cockpit,
you're trained to move ailerons, rudders and elevators. You'll
move the yoke and control all the radios, navigation systems etc.
You'll be shown how to do takeoffs and landings. Maybe we'll even
show you stalls, buffets, and what the arch looks like at night
from 3,000 feet as you fly your approach into St. Louis. Of course,
all this is simulated, it just doesnt' feel like it. Because an
airline simulator is known to make you feel like your in the real
thing. On top of that, Amigan-St. Louis will give you a real logbook
that you can write your flight times in.
There are lot's more being donated too. If your company wants
to donate prizes to Amiga 2K, simply email Bob Scharp at
bscharp@icon-stl.net and tell him what you are sending. Then
email a web banner and a discription of the prize to him. He
will list you as soon as he confirms your prizes.
Don't forget, it's not too late to exhibit at Amiga 2K, the largest
Amiga show in the Americas. Just fill out the handy exhibitor
form. Go to http://www.amiga-stl.com/show.html and click on the
"Exhibitor" button. Then fill it out. You'll be glad you exhibited.
WOW, Amiga 2K is going to be HUGE!
Regards,
Bob

Digital Almanac II update
The latest version of the astronomy software Digital Almanac II (Rev. 1.8.8) is now available for free to all
users from the author's homepage. An upload to Aminet was also done, so the Archive will soon be
available there soon.
Moreover, the author wants to thank all participants of the DA-PPC survey. The positive feedback of
the survey will therefore be rewarded. As soon as DCE starts production of the PPC boards, DA will
be released in a first trial version for WarpOS. The PPC part of the homepage will therefore be reworked
as soon as the port becomes an issue.

AudioLabs announces iRec (internet Recording), live streaming MPEG capabilities for AmigaOS! This cool
feature comes embedded in any new ProStationAudio version, starting with the forthcoming Millennium
edition.
iRec is fully functional (monitoring and direct-to-disk recording) in the new ProStationAudio demo to be
available for downloading the first week of March 2000. Every AmigaOS user is encouraged to take advantage
of this new free tool.
Thanks to iRec, the ProStationAudio mixing console input (RecBus) can be switched between a local audio
board or a remote audio server, accessible via Internet or a LAN.
Once connected (Miami or compatible TCP stack required), iRec lets you record live MPEG streams. During
the streaming process, ProStationAudio allows you to monitor the incoming signal and record direct-to-disk,
with on-the-fly conversion from MPEG to PCM.
iRec is compatible with a large number of web-stations broadcasting in MPEG, including ShoutCast (TM)
audio servers.
Millennium saves your preferred iRec URL's into an external text file so that you can easily edit/process your
database or share it with other ProStationAudio users.
The ProStationAudio editing application requires a 68040/16MB system to start with, and is optimized for
hi-end configurations including up to two video cards, two monitors and two CPUs.
For more information about ProStationAudio please refer to the official sites:
http://www.audiolabs.it (European server)
http://usa.audiolabs.it (US mirror)

Amiga User meeting in Wolfenbuettel
After I received such a positive response in the amigaOS chat room about
the idea of a club independant amiga user meeting, I though I should follow
up on the idea.
The meeting will take place sometime in early summer (probably from
Saturday-Sunday on the 8th and 9th of July) here in Wolfenbuettel. At this
time I cannot make any statement about the program, since it is largly
dependant upon the amiga community itself. It is safe however to say that
barbequeing is on the adgenda. I will also try to get some "special guests"
to show up. First inquiries in this direction have proved to be very
positive.
We will try to keep the costs as low as possible. I will try to keep it
under 10,- DM per person. The costs however for lodging will most probably
have to be covered by everyone themselves. We may however be able to come
up with alternatives.
However before i can begin with planning, I need to know how many people
would like to attend. It would be great if you could send me an email if you
think you might be attending. (O.Tacke@surfway.de).
This is not a binding application, just a channel to voice your support.
AmiOlli.

At the very bottom of the MorphOS supportpage you can find "Bilder vom

New AmigaPlus has arrived
(German print mag)
The new release of AmigaPlus has arrived. At first to remember: The
magazine is now called AmigaPlus powered by AmigaOS. This is due to the
fact that AmigaOS, who have taken over AmigPlus, also took over the
structure of distribution of AmigaPlus. Let's put it another way: It is
labeled AmigaPlus, but it has AmigaOS inside ;-).
Highlights from issue 03/2000:
News goals of Amiga: Bill McEwen in Frankfurt
Fleecy Moss talking to Amiga Plus
The G3-Hope: met@box interview
Linus talks: An interview with Linus Torvalds
Linux distributions for the Amiga
In detail: Installing Linux on the Amiga
and much more

Voyager 3 statusreport
Since the last update we have worked on a list of bugs and have done
some changes. Right now we are concentrating mostly on finishing
Javascript support and the improvement of the API plugins. Good news are
certainly the fact that Emmanuel Lesueur has made his Apdf PDF-Viewer
available as a V ł-Plugin.
Vflash has been rewritten in many parts and is a lot faster now than the
earlier version. M68k version are already working very well. Zapek is
working hard to finish the PPC-version.
During the next 2 weeks there will be a new Voyager-Version.
Imagedecoder and Vflash-updates might be available earlier eventually.

Amiga Forum completely reworked
We have reworked the graphics as well as the contents of our forum. Take
a look at it and get your own opinion. Questions, suggestions and new
ideas are always welcome.
The forum is, indeed, one of the subpages that already has been translated to English. In fact, it offers a German and an English
"chapter". The English one, however, has seen only a dozen posts or so.
The forum is for you; use it! State your point of view, ask your
questions, tell us what you think of our service amiga-news.de. Aside
from providing valuable (and motivating) feedback for us, the editors,
it might turn this forum from a dusty place into just the place to post

Screenshots of the Tao Video from the Tech Head Stories website
For you Amiga users who weren't able to check out the Java streaming video
Roger B. Wyatt put up at the Tech Head Stories site, yours truly (James Russell
here at Amiga.org and AmigaNation News) has compiled these shots so you can
get a first, agonizing glimpse of the futuristic interface that will be Amiga.
The shots look awful, but they're the same quality as the video but double the
size. One day soon we can look forward to seeing the real thing! Maybe at the
March 1 St. Louis meeting? We can but hope.
I had a look at the video. Nice stuff like transparent / color filtering windows,
and some reassuring talk with one of the Tao Group. They seem to be very serious
about Amino / Amiga, although I think a number of 100,000 to 200,000 (active)
Amiga developers is somewhat overestimated... (mb)

Hacker attack on Cyberdyne Systems
On February 13th, 2000, hackers have manipulated the Cyberdyne Systems homepage. Several files have
been deleted, the start page and the logo of Cyberdyne Systems have been replaced by modified
versions. On calling "http://WWW.CyberdyneSystems.de/" or
"http://WWW:CyberdyneSystems.de/index.html", a logo with a crossbar and the following text was
displayed: "Cyberdyne Systems has cancelled all activities. We thank all users for their support."
This is of course not true. Cyberdyne Systems has NOT canceled its activities. The projects
"HSMathLibs" and "stormamiga.lib" will be continued (details about them soon). By manipulating
the homepage, an automatic security system has been trigered which deleted all important files
(e.g. registrations) and closed all subdirectories before the hacker gained access to them. Due to
this, all affected files showed "ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error". This error message was also
shown for all domains handled by Cyberdyne Systems. In the AMIGA area, this affected the
AmigaClub Leipzig e.V. We are sorry for this problem, which was not caused by ourself. In the
future, we will check the system more frequently to avoid trouble like this.
Except for the Cyberdyne Systems homepage, everything is up and running again. We are
working on solving this problem ASAP, and process all recieved registrations. We ask for
your patience.

Video conference with Bill McEwen cancelled
The Live Interactive Video Conference with Bill McEwen attending, announced for March 1st by GAC (Gateway Amiga Club, Inc.)
has been cancelled:
Press Rlease
Amigan-St. Louis
Bill McEwen - "Live Interactive Video Conference" on March 1
February 4, 2000
Fellow Amigans,
We are happy to assist the Gateway Amiga Club, Inc. in bringing
you Mr. Bill McEwen in...
"Live" from the Gateway Amgia Club"
GAC's meeting will be Wednesday March 1, at the Ladue Horton Watkins
High School Videio Lab. It is located at 1201 South Warson Rd, in
Ladue, MO. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM, with the conference
starting at 8 PM CST.
Mr McEwen will discuss the "OS for the 21st Century" and
demonstrate some "new stuff". This is a meeting you won't want
to miss.
The interactive nature of this conference, will allow the speaker to
view his audience as they view him. Viewers can even ask questions
when their site is selected for viewing.
Amiga Clubs interested in viewing this live interactive video
conference" should go to GAC's web page at:
http://www.icon-stl.net/~amiga
and click on the "Amiga News" link. There you will find the
details of how to apply for the conferences link.
We suggest that clubs attempt to find video conferencing
equipment at their local high schools, colleges, or businesses
to keep their costs down. It is possible to rent Kinko equipment,
but costs can be higher than most clubs can afford.
Due to the video sites needing possible on-site approval, we will
need to have your request no later than February 14. Please
remember to fill out the form on the GAC website.
See you on the Big Screen,
Bob Scharp

Fusion V3.4 (68K) released
Blittersoft announce new Fusion 68K upgrade
All Fusion users (and those anxiously awaiting the pending PPC release) will
be pleased to here that we have a new upgrade to the 68K version. This release
confirms the continued commitment to the 68K Macintosh emulation, but also
provides a number of improvements and enhancements.
Fusion 68K V3.4 is the final upgrade before the release of the PowerPC
upgrade, which is nearing completion.
Changes to V3.4 (since last full release, V3.1)
- Added ICP Transfer Priority. You can now specify the priority the Mac
runs at while the drives are accessed from the Amiga side though ICP.
- Fixed OpenDevice problem with ethernet.
- Fixed ethernet query bug.
- Added TD64 support. A partition that is partially or completely above the
4G point will cause FUSION to fail to start if TD64 support is not available.
Partitions are still limited to 4G in size.
- Added support for block sizes other than 512. Up to 64K valid.
- Fixed ICP MacBinary file copy hang.
- Auto-start doesn't auto-quit if you change the ICP or cpu settings.
- Added tooltype and cli switch for specifying parameter ram file.
- Changed ethernet from software loaded to a hardware card for Open Transport
support. Cleaned up ethernet for better Amiga ethenet card support;
Ariadne card now works.
- Fixed cursor problem with old Lucas Arts games.
- Fixed problem with QD based video drivers.
- Fixed slight problem with autosense SCSI data.
- New ADB drivers with (nearly) all Mac keys mapped.
- Added tooltype support; switches from cli now have Workbench tooltype equivalents.
- Auto-start now also implies auto-quit
- Changed 060 initial settings; now starts with only SuperScalar off.
- Fixed miscellaneous problems with the interface related to the auto-iconify feature
(Tall thin windows on WB fixed).
- Fixed Timer interrupt bug that prevented QueBase from playing.
- Added support for a couple more ROMs.
- Updates to video drivers.
- Updates to RsrvCold, and RsrvWarm which is now called RsrvKick.

Quake 1.09 by Frank Wille released
The Beta-Release of Quake 1.09 supports AGA, CGX, chunkyppc.library
(Screen, Public Screen, WB Window, Double-Triple buffering, P96 PiP), Amiga
Keyboard, -mouse, - joystick, TCP/IP, Sound (audio.device) and CD-Audio
playback. It is available from Frank Wille`s webpage (title link). For a
detailed how-to please read the manual.
These is also the new version 0.7d of the ppclibemu
available. It emulates the ppc.library and PowerUP kernel under WarpOS. An own ELF-LoadSeg
patch is included, and allows many (some?) PowerUP programs to run just like on the original
environment. The programs that run don't show a significant performance penalty. Some of the
programs even run faster under ppclibemu than under Phase5`s original kernel.

Amiga Yellow Pages closed, Amiga Rediscovery re-opened
Micheal Carillo has closed his "Amiga Yellow Page" due to pressure he
received from "BT Yellow Pages" concerning the similiar names. Read
more details
about it.
Depite this - or in spite of, he has begun a new project,
Amiga
Rediscovery. At Amiga Rediscovery you will find old Amiga games, demoes and
coverdisks for free download - starting with the clasic demo "Fury of the
Furries". There are also other demos such as the Christmas Lemmings demo.
For Amiga nostalgia freaks a real treasure trove.

Ragonsoft Directory Lister (RDL) for Amiga?
There is right now only a Windows version of the software available, but if RDL becomes a success, RDL
will also be made available for Amiga. The same is generally true for all our projects, e.g. BusinessHome.
However BusinessHome is currently troubled by a hard drive problem and probably has to be rewritten.
Back to RDL... :-), I will try to explain what RDL is capable of. RDL creates a list from a directory including all
subdirectories. This list is written to a text file (DIR-LIST.TXT).
Since RDL does not overwrite DIR-LIST.TXT files, but expands them, the list can be continuously extended.
So you can create an overview over 5 PCs or 100 CDs in one RDL file, e.g. for sending it to somebody.
Thanks to a filter you can create a list of .wav files or .mp3 files only. RDL was intended for personal use only,
now everyone can get it. If you are interested in a port, contact Imperator.
