Trademark rights: "Commodore" announced PET-Smartphone
In April the Italian Massimo Canigiani announced with his company "Commodore Business Machines Ltd.", registered in Great Britain, plans for a Commodore-Smartphone. According to wired.com Canigiani alleged having "acquired" the trademark rights of the Commodore-brand for the mobile sector in 38 countries inclusive USA.

Probably it is meant that a registration was applied: At least in the database of trademark rights of the EU there is a corresponding application for the well-known Commodore-logo. It is not known if C= Holdings, the holder of the already registered original Commodore trademark, will proceed against it.

For weeks, the new smartphone namend "PET" is promoted on its website and got feedback and adequate attention: As expected, the "PET" is not a new development, but a merchantable Android-smartphone produced in China with Commodore lettering. Meanwhile the news service 9to5Google has identified the device: The "PET" is a Orgtec WaPhone. While the original is sold for 144 US-Dollar, the Italian smartphone at least will cost 300 Dollar.

Additional to the logo, supposedly the "PET" features a second unique selling point: Emulators for C64 (VICE) and Amiga (uae4All2-SDL) are preinstalled, which the editor of Wired could not test because it was still not available. The producer said that there are talks with different software developers to get the consent to deliver some of the best games from the 1980s.

As far as we know, "Commodore Business Machines" currently does not own licences for the ROM-files which are required for an emulation. (cg) (Translation: dr)
