Pressemitteilung:
Wir sind der Meinung: Es gibt zu wenige Retrocomputing-Veranstaltungen im Süden der Republik Deshalb
findet am 03.08.13 die erste RETROpulsiv an der Hochschule Augsburg statt.
Viele erinnern sich noch aus Kinder- und Jugendtagen an Computer wie den Commodore Amiga, den Atari ST oder den Schneider CPC. Die IT-Welt in den 80er und frühen 90er Jahren zeichnete sich durch eine geradezu spektakuläre Vielfalt aus. Noch bevor Windows überhaupt auf dem Markt war, rangelten zahlreiche Computersysteme auf dem Markt um die Gunst des Kunden. Nicht wenige der "Generation Golf" sind mit diesen Computern aufgewachsen, haben sich darauf an zwar technisch wenig aufwändigen, dafür aber inhaltlich umso spannenderen Spielen amüsiert oder erste Gehversuche in der Programmierung unternommen. Die Knappheit an Rechenleistung und Speicher in der damaligen Zeit führte zu kreativen Höchstleistungen in der Programmierkunst.
Die erste RETROpulsiv an der Hochschule Augsburg lässt diese Zeit wieder lebendig werden. Anhand zahlreicher Exponate demonstrieren Zeitzeugen die IT-Techniker der 70er, 80er und 90er Jahre, als 8 Bit der Standard, Taktfrequenzen 1-2 stellig und 1 MByte unglaublich viel Speicher waren. Taucht ein in die spannende Jungzeit der IT-Technik!
Die RETROpulsiv ist eine geschlossene Veranstaltung. Das heißt, teilnehmen kann jeder, der sich vorher anmeldet. Bitte nutzt hierzu das unten angefügte Formular. Einfach ausschneiden und und ausgefüllt per Email bis spätestens 27.07.13 an anmeldung@retropulsiv.de senden
Die Veranstaltung beginnt um 10 Uhr und endet um 23 Uhr. Sämtliche anfallende Kosten werden von der Hochschule übernommen, ein Eintritt o.Ä. wird also nicht fällig.
Und natürlich freuen wir uns über mitgebrachte Exponate aller Art aus der Welt des Retrocomputing!
Wer von Euch Interesse hat, die anwesende Community mit einem Vortrag zu beglücken, sei hierzu herzlich eingeladen. Interessant sind alle Themen rund um Retrocomputing im weitesten Sinne.

PC OpenSystems LLC kündigt "Amiga OpenLinux" sowie AmigaOS-Unterstützung an
Roberto J. Dohnert von PC OpenSystems LLC, der vor einer guten Woche die Umbenennung seiner Linux-Distribution in "Amiga OpenLinux" angekündigt hatte, hatte sich bereit erklärt, sich in der Nacht von Sonntag auf Montag einem moderierten IRC-Chat mit Amiga-Usern zu stellen.
In dem rund zweistündigen Gespräch (kompletter Mitschnitt s.u.) erklärt er, dass er die Markenzeichen "Amiga OpenLinux", "Amiga Enterprise Linux" and "Amiga Education System" beim US-amerikanischen Marken- und Patentamt habe registrieren lassen. Dies sei möglich gewesen, da Amiga Inc. bereits seit vielen Jahren keine Betriebssystem-ähnlichen Produkte mehr unter diesem Namen vertreibe und schon seit langem kein Warenzeichen für Software mehr registriert habe (Anm. d. Verfassers: Amigas registriertes Warenzeichen gilt lediglich für Computer-Hardware).
Einige Stunden vor Beginn des Chats hatte Dohnert auf amigaworld.net eine Auflistung der Dinge veröffentlicht, die er und sein Team zum eigentlichen AmigaOS beitragen wollen: Darunter Portierungen von Qt, Gtk, Java und Chromium, oder eine Virtualisierungslösung um Linux-Anwendungen unter AmigaOS laufen zu lassen. Auch im Chat bekräftigt er diese Pläne nochmals, Nachfragen zum erwarteten Aufwand werden jedoch nur sehr ausweichend beantwortet. Seine Motivation zur Mitarbeit sei lediglich der Wunsch zu helfen.
Praktisch zeitgleich mit dem Chat wurde auch ein neuer Blog-Eintrag auf os4online.com veröffentlicht, in dem erneut ein neues Logo für Dohnerts Linux-Distribution angekündigt wird: Das Wahrzeichen soll nun doch ein weiß-/roter BoingBall werden - aber einer, der nach links statt nach rechts geneigt ist und (Zitat Dohnert) "sich nur dreht, und nicht hüpft".

<rjdohnert> We secured the US trademark through registration with the USPTO of Amiga OpenLinux, Amiga Enterprise Linux and Amiga Education System
<Ken> eliyahu So that means you have no license from the IP owners, correct?
<rjdohnert> Yes, we are the IP owners of Amiga OpenLinux, Amiga Enterprise Linux and Amiga Education System
<Ken> broadblues what is the purpose of you chanig your brand name to include "amiga"
<Ken> pjsX1K How many people (full time, part time, outside) in your organization and please give some history of it (dates, accomplishments, etc)?

<rjdohnert> Amiga has always meant to me cutting edge, it also means user friendliness and the ability to use the computer to do your tasks quickly and efficiently. Now the Amiga OS in all of its days has done just that and we want to bring that to the Linux world. We feel and our users feel we are the most user friendly, cutting edge distribution of linux on the market today
<rjdohnert> So we share a lot in terms with what Commodore did all those years ago

<rjdohnert> We have about 5 full time employees, we also have numerous contributors that help out. Our passion has always been to bring the best technology to the masses, we did that with PC/OS , OS4 and we intend to keep doing that with Amiga OpenLinux and Amiga Enterprise Linux

<Kelli217> <eliyahu> OK. So, again, you did not secure a license for the marks from Amiga, Inc.? <Kelli217> I would expand on eliyahu's question ... That is, you either contend that Amiga, Inc.'s trademarks are abandoned or you are purposefully posing the issue in order to force such an opinion?
<rjdohnert> Once again, we didnt need to get an IP license from Amiga Inc. We are our own brand. Since Amiga Inc no longer owns, resells or develops computer systems or general computer operating systems we feel they have indeed abandoned the market. The current buisness of Amiga Inc is in the game market and mobile market and we do not intend to get into that market.

<Ken> broadblues do you assert that the amiga linux and amiga (traditional shall we say) tardmarks do not conflct?
<rjdohnert> No they do not and if you do a USPTO look up, Amiga Inc owns the trademark regarding computer hardware, they lost the trademark for computer operating systems and software development tools
<rjdohnert> Those trademarks have been dead for quite a number of years now

<Ken> pjsX1K What specific experience (things done?) do any of your staff have in coding & completing AmigaOS apps?
<rjdohnert> Our CTO, Cristobal was an Amiga developer, Seth and Daniel, who are on our team also are Amiga enthusiasts and worked in the traditional Amiga market. Plus with the 5 of us we have a lot of years in computer development

<Ken> PaulS what makes the amiga linux different from other linux distributions, is it just looks
<rjdohnert> No, its a stable product. If you look at traditional Linux distros you are a constant beta tester. They push new kernels, new drivers and beta and sometimes alpha quality software on their users. We dont do that. We use a stable version of the kernel, our apps are the production ready stable releases and we test our distro alot before we release. So users know they are getting a stable, ready product and we wont push out
<rjdohnert> a new kernel and take the chance of crashing their systems or interrupting their infrastructure.

<Ken> liyahu How large is your current community? Do you think having the Amiga brand will help add to those numbers significantly?

We are hoping that the brand shows the Amiga community that we are there to help them, they can continue their hobby with Amiga OS on the powerPC and use our distro for more modern needs, running servers, being able to access modern tools and technology that the Linux community has to offer. The list was determined by
<rjdohnert> the team and we looked at the current situation of the Amiga and asked how can we contribute? These solutions were reasonable, it helps the community. A-EON is assisting us with our port of OS4 PowerLinux, that product will be for the PowerPC processor, Why did we name the product OS4 PowerLinux. Because we felt in the PowerPC market where Hyperion and the Amiga OS were present, that we didnot want to confuse users or cust
<rjdohnert> omers on whether they were getting Amiga OS traditional or what they were getting. So since our position is not to interrupt Hyperions market we decided to keep the name OS4 for the PowerPC distro. We are hoping to extend cooperation with other PowerPC developers as well

<Kelli217> <JimS> Could you explain what your product means to say classic users under UAE, OS4 users on PPC hardware, and AROS users on x86?
<rjdohnert> AROS users, will benefit because they have a wider usage scenario, using Hosted AROS will allow them to keep running their classic apps and give them a modern platform for them to be able to accomplish tasks they may want to do that the classic Amiga cant do, It also helps get AROS out there into a broader audience who may want to join the hobby and elp extend and expand that. Since Amiga OS 4 does not have a server component
<rjdohnert> to it, OS4 PowerLinux works in two ways users can continue to use Linux in conjunction with Amiga OS 4, we do intend to make it as user friendly as our x86 distro, and also when the time comes and they buy a new machine for the Amiga OS, they can recycle their current investment and set up a simple file server at home or use it as their Linux desktop

<Kelli217> <broadblues> How does you "stable" PC/OS OS4 Amiga Linux compare with a standrad distros stable release?
<rjdohnert> Even when a tradition, stable distro gets released it still has a lot of beta and sometimes Alpha quality software and they claim its stable. With our distro, if you download it and look we do not mix in software from beta channels. So you are getting the latest stable release of ALL your applications.

<Ken> ktadd You mentioned assisting with writing device drivers for AmigaOS4. What types of devices do you plan to support?
<rjdohnert> Wifi devices, hopefully through AROS get touch screen working properly, and also common networking devices. If the time comes and AROS, Amiga OS, and even MorphOS has a problem with getting certain devices to work we will offer our expertise and development resources to helping them get it to work properly.

<rjdohnert> No, as a matter of fact its a very up to date distro. If you look at our product when an application achieves stable release status we compile and include it in our repositories and thats why if you download our distro, certain software versions are ahead of what Ubuntu or Linux mint includes

<Ken> Derfs you have talked about java and Qt for amiga os, have you spoken to the people working on the amiga os ports of them already?
<rjdohnert> Yes I have, and that conversation is ongoing. We are not here to throw bones to the community, we are fully commited that when say a new release of QT is available to immediately start work on the new release, same with Java and same with our port of Network Manager. We see how sometimes these releases that were produced before get 5 or 6 releases behind. With us working on Java and QT that wont happen.

<Kelli217> <alanwall> since the ppc is considered end of life,how are you able to keep a distro up to date/are you able to port x86 apps to ppc ? Thanks !
<rjdohnert> The PowerPC is not EOL. There are several chip companies out there, IBM and Freescale who produce and continue to produce chips and systems with those chips. We need to open up dialogue and refresh the supply.
<rjdohnert> What apps we can port from x86 we will work on. Obviously things like Flash and other closed source software we cant.

<rjdohnert> A-EON and other companies, both. Some of those companies are under NDA. We have a few announcements coming within the next 48 hours and some of these have been in the community before.

<Kelli217> <ktadd> Chromium for AmigaOS4 would be great to have. How much time would you guestimate porting something like that would take? How could the community help
<Kelli217> bump it up on your priority list?

<rjdohnert> Well its not a easy port, we are guestimating something like that would coincide with our release of our first betta of OS4 PowerLinux. Also, testers if we have committed testers we can produce a stable product.

<rjdohnert> Yes we have.

<rjdohnert> because we believe in community and we believe in helping alleviate problems. Since we are planning to be involved in the PPC market as well it will help benefit the users as they will be able to use the same hardware for OS4 PowerLinux without having to swap out devices because it doesnt work with the Amiga OS. So this helps users, and its the right thing to do as a citizen of a community.
<rjdohnert> Think of it like this, if you live in a village where you have an electronic water pump and your neighbors dont, are you going to just let them use yours or are you going to help them build one for themselves.

<rjdohnert> We plan to release that in conjuction with our final release of OS4 PowerLinux so far its feasible, doable

<rjdohnert> That depends on Hyperion. If Ben Hermans wants to open up discussions with us and let us join as a part of a developer network, we are more than happy to do that and we believe cooperation is productive. If he doesnt then we will work with other Amiga OS developers and help them. What Ben does is up to him but we encourage you, the community, to contact him personally and urge him to do the right thing.

<Kelli217> PaulS How much RAM will the distribution need to run properly or does it require recent x86 hardware and will it have features we like so much in AmigaOS like a
<Kelli217> RAM disk that is available right after you booted.
<rjdohnert> 512 mb of RAM is the sweet spot for our distro on x86, we use a the XFCE window manager and its very fast and lightweight and except for the screen fan feature, which I would love to have, its very comparable to what is available in the Amiga OS in terms of ease of use.

<Kelli217> <Derfs> are you looking at having an amigaos cross compiler pre-setup in the os4 linux distro, and if so when do you see this happening?
<rjdohnert> We are planning for the cross compiler to be ready for the 14.0 release coming in August. For 13.6, Hosted AROS will have all development tools installed.

<rjdohnert> Its not a boing ball, its a checkered sphere which is different in the rotation of a boing ball. Ours will spin in the new Plymouth theme and not bounce As for the traditional Boing Ball, I could use it, the trademark for that has expired as well

<rjdohnert> The biggest challenge, Amiga Inc and Hyperion. I dont think from a legal standpoint as some have suggested. Getting them to be productive and assisting giving us straight answers. The code part while challenging is just time sensitive. Another challenge will be community support. Tho I think when we show them we are not here to play heart strings, we are here to be productive members I think that will help.

OS4 Linux: Anbieter will AROS optional mitinstallieren (Update)
Wie PC OpenSystems LLC, die Firma hinter OS4 Linux (amiga-news.de berichtete), unter dem Titellink ankündigt, will man Hardware-Kunden ab Montag auf Wunsch AROS ohne Aufpreis mitinstallieren - zunächst als Gastbetriebssystem unter VirtualBox und später, falls AROS den jeweiligen Rechner vollständig unterstütze, auch als zweite Boot-Option.
Die Computerpreise haben es allerdings in sich, wie etwa das Beispiel eines im OS4Store "Indigo Desktop" getauften HP-Pavilion-23-Systems zeigt: mit AMD-A4-Prozessor, 4 GB RAM und 500-GB-Festplatte schlägt es mit 1100 US-Dollar zu Buche, während ein mit größerer Kapazität ausgerüstetes Modell beim Hersteller mit 700 Dollar veranschlagt wird.

Instant Messenger: Jabberwocky 1.9
Bereits vor über einer Woche wurde mit der Version 1.9 ein Update des MUI-basierten Instant-Messenger-Clients Jabberwocky veröffentlicht. Das Programm ermöglicht über sogenannte Server-Module den Zugriff auf verschiedene Messenger-Netzwerke (u.a. AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo) und liegt in der aktuellen Fassung für AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4 und MorphOS vor.
Changes:
- Minor updates to Jabberwocky guide and readme files
- Fixed crash when login window register button selected with no JabberID
- Changed the way the "resource" part of the JabberID is added so that
the default "resource" will also be displayed with the JabberID in the
status block at the top of the main Jabberwocky window
- Added xmpp:ping namespace for recognizing and responding to ping requests
- Added bug fixes to Iksemel library from Iksemel SVN repository
- Changed sound noticication function to skip invalid/failed sound

Jens Henschels Amiga-Target (AmigaOS/AROS; die Ergänzung um MorphOS ist vorgesehen) für den Transpiler Monkey (amiga-news.de berichtete) liegt jetzt in der Version 0.12 vor. Den Neubeginn der Nummerierung (zuletzt erschien 0.26) begründet der Autor mit den grundlegenden Änderungen an jenem Basic-Dialekt durch dessen Programmierer Mark Sibly.

Amiga Meeting 2013 (11. bis 13. Oktober, Bad Bramstedt)
Sven Scheele schreibt: Von Freitag, dem 11., bis Sonntag, den 13. Oktober 2013, findet in Bad Bramstedt auch dieses Jahr wieder das beliebte Amiga-Meeting Nord statt. Das Anmeldeformular auf der Homepage wird in den nächsten Tagen freigeschaltet.
Geplant ist wie immer ein großes Netzwerk mit Internetzugang, Präsentationen aktueller Entwicklungen, ein Abend mit Vorführung von Scene-Demos, Erstellung einer Party-DVD und vieles mehr. Der Spaß steht natürlich im Vordergrund! Auch Entwickler sollten sich die Möglichkeit nicht entgehen lassen, ihre Produkte oder Projekte auf dem Meeting zu präsentieren! Interessierte Entwickler können das Kontaktformular auf der Homepage nutzen.
Leider sah sich das Hotel gezwungen, aufgrund allgemein gestiegener Kosten,
die Preise zu erhöhen. Der z.T. sehr günstige Preis vergangener Jahre war u.a. auch darin begründet, das das Hotel im Oktober nicht ausgelastet war.
Dies ist mittlerweile aber nicht mehr der Fall. Die Preise (ohne Gewähr, es gelten die Preise im Anmeldeformular):

AmigaOS 4: UFRaw 0.19 für AmiCygnix
Mit UFRaw lassen sich RAW-Grafiken bearbeiten und wandeln. Das Programm
basiert auf Dave Coffin's "DCRaw" Version 9.17 und unterstützt eine große Anzahl an Formaten. UFRaw kann eigenständig oder als Plugin für die Bildbearbeitungssoftware "The Gimp" verwendet werden. Bei der Installation von UFRaw wird "Gimp" erkannt und die Installation des Plugins angeboten.
Unterstützt werden zudem das Lesen von Exif-Daten, Farbmanagement über
"Little CMS" (lcms) und jetzt neu auch "Lensfun" zur Beseitigung und Simulation fotografischer Linsenverzeichnungen.

AmigaOS 4: Midi-Sequencer BarsnPipes 0.9.98
Lyle Hazelwood, der die Weiterentwicklung der AmigaOS 4-Version des MIDI-Sequencers BarsnPipes von Alfred Faust übernommen hat, stellt ein erstes Update des Programms zur Verfügung. AmigaOS 4: Gimp 2.6.11r2 für AmiCygnix
Für die X11-Umgebung AmiCygnix steht jetzt ein Update des Bildbearbeitungsprogramms Gimp zur Verfügung. Die Änderungen im Vergleich zur vorherigen Veröffentlichung:
- Die im ersten Release versprochene Unterstützung für Dead-Keys und Nicht-ISO-8859-1 Tastaturen funktionierte nicht. Wurde behoben.
- Menü-Shortcuts funktionierten nicht. Ebenfalls behoben
- Sieben neue zu Python-Plugins gewandelte Script-Fu Skripte.
- Dokumentation überarbeitet. Verschiedene Python-Plugins benötigen andere Plugins, die in den optionalen Plugin-Paketen enthalten sind. Wird jetzt explizit aufgeführt.
- Eine neue Startgrafik im Amiga-Stil

ACSH Hardwaretreffen 2/2013 in Schwentinental (3. August)
Der Amiga-Club Schleswig-Holstein lädt am Samstag, dem 03. August, zum 2. Hardwaretreffen 2013 ein. Dieses findet wieder im Jugendhaus "Neue Heimat", Dorfstr. 101 in 24222 Schwentinental (Ortsteil Klausdorf), statt. Auf Wunsch kann eine Wegbeschreibung per E-Mail zugesandt werden.
Wer seinen Rechner mitbringen möchte, möge sich bitte per E-Mail anmelden. Beginn ist offiziell um 13 Uhr, die Anreise ab 12 Uhr möglich. Steckdosenleisten, Netzwerkkabel etc. müssen wie immer selbst mitgebracht werden. Neben "Amiga & Co." sind auch andere alternative Computersysteme willkommen.
Da die LAN-Party des ACH (Alternative Computersysteme Hamburg) diesen Sommer ausfällt, versteht sich die Veranstaltung auch als alternatives Angebot an die LAN-Party-Besucher. (cg)

Linux-Distributor kündigt Nutzung des Amiga-Namens an (Update 3)
Unter os4online.com wird bereits seit einigen Jahren eine kommerzielle Xubuntu-basierte Linux-Distribution namens "OS4 OpenLinux" angeboten, von der auch eine Enterprise-Edition existiert. Die Namensgleichheit mit der umgangsprachlichen Bezeichnung für AmigaOS 4 war englischsprachigen Nutzern bereits mehrfach aufgefallen (1, 2) - zuletzt hatte sich Roberto J. Dohnert, der Mann hinter dem OS4 OpenLinux-Distributor "PC OpenSystems LLC", gar selbst mit einem ausführlichen Statement zu Wort gemeldet.
In der folgenden Diskussion erläutert Dohnert, dass er selbst einen Amiga-Hintergrund habe und auch mit Barry Altman vom Markenverwerter Commodore USA kurzfristig in Kontakt gewesen sei. In einem Beitrag vom gestrigen Freitag behauptet er Amiga Inc. wegen einer Lizenzierung des Markennamens kontaktiert zu haben - jedoch ohne eine Antwort zu erhalten. Direkt danach kündigt Dohnert an, dass er darüber nachdenke die Verwendung des immer noch geschützten Warenzeichens einfach auf seiner Webseite anzukündigen und abzuwarten wer ihn daraufhin kontaktiert.
Diesen Plan hat man jetzt offensichtlich in die Tat umgesetzt: In einem Statement auf der Webseite seiner Linux-Distribution kündigt PC OpenSystems die Umbenennung der beiden Software-Produkte in "Amiga OpenLinux" und "Amiga Enterprise Linux" an, außerdem wolle man (x86-/x64-basierte) Server, Desktop-Computer und Laptops mit Amiga-Schriftzug anbieten.
Dohnert nimmt weiterhin an der Diskussion auf aw.net teil und betont nochmals, dass der Sinn dieser Aktion sei mit den Rechteinhabern in Kontakt zu treten um über eine ordentliche Lizenz zu verhandeln.

Inzwischen wurde die Ankündigung wieder von os4online.com entfernt - knapp 30 Minuten nachdem Ben Hermans kurzzeitig auf Amigaworld.net eingeloggt war. Einen Screenshot der Ankündigung haben wir auf unserem Server abgelegt.

Dohnert hat zwischenzeitlich erklärt, dass Amiga Inc. mit ihm Kontakt aufgenommen und eine Lizenzierung für Linux verneint habe. Dennoch wurden ihm angeblich genaue Lizenzbedingungen genannt: 600 US-Dollar sowie eine "jährliche Gebühr von 5 Prozent".
Kurz darauf wurde das Logo von OS4 OpenLinux in ein stark vom BoingBall inspiriertes Design geändert. Inzwischen ist auch trotz Dohnerts Erläuterungen die ursprüngliche Ankündigung, das Produkt als "Amiga OpenLinux" vertreiben zu wollen, wieder online.

Emulator: WinUAE 2.6.1
Der bekannte Amiga-Emulator WinUAE liegt jetzt in der Version 2.6.1 vor. Ein paar Konfigurationsoptionen sind neu hinzugekommen, außerdem wurden einiger Fehler beseitigt:
Neue Funktionen:
- Input panel Invert option added (press becomes release and vice versa,
joystick and mouse movement is inverted)
- FPU unimplemented instruction emulation can be optionally disabled,
emulates real 68040/68060 CPU behavior
- >2M Chip RAM is now merged with original Chip RAM pool
Fehler der Version 2.6.0, die beseitigt wurden:
- OFS formatted partition hardfile didn't mount
- Some AGA demos had horizontally duplicated graphics
- Direct3D hq2x shader filter did nothing

Petro Tyschtschenko: Weitere Amiga-1200-Pakete erhältlich
Wie Petro Tyschtschenko mitteilt, erhält er am 20. Juli eine weitere Lieferung Amiga-1200-Pakete. Eine erste Charge war im November an Endkunden ausgeliefert worden, eine zweite wurde diesen Monat erwartet. Der Preis beträgt wiederum 150 Euro zzgl. Amiga-500-Nachbauten: Amiga 550 und Amy the Dream Clone
Gegenwärtig befinden sich mindestens zwei Projekte in Arbeit, ein erweitertes Amiga-500-Board herzustellen.
Das niederländische Austauschboard Amiga 550 soll dabei mit einem Zorro-II-Anschluss für eine Picasso-II-Grafikkarte, IDE-Anschluss und zwei Uhrenports sowie Anschlüssen für den MAS-MP3-Player und Turbokarten (68020/030/040) aufwarten.
In Schweden hingegen wurde die Platine des "Amy the Dream Clone" bereits auf der Retrospelsmassan 2013 in Göteborg vorgeführt (Foto). Dieses Board von 'Mr. Andersson' orientiert sich jedoch nicht an den Maßen des Originals, sondern wurde mit dem Ziel entwickelt, in Mini-ITX-Gehäuse zu passen und ergänzend auch PC-Tastaturen sowie -Mäuse verwenden zu können. Zudem weist es gleichfalls einen Zorro-II-kompatiblen Steckplatz auf. (snx)

Hollywood: MiniHollyEdit 1.6
Bei MiniHollyEdit 1.6 des französischen Programmierers 'ArtBlink' handelt es sich um die erste öffentliche Version eines ARexx-basierten Editors für die Programmiersprache Hollywood, da ein solcher bislang nur in der Windows-Fassung enthalten ist (Screenshot

ComputerClub 2: Interview mit Andreas Magerl (Amiga Future)
Für sein Blog ComputerClub 2 hat Dennis Tippe unter dem Titellink ein Interview mit Andreas Magerl geführt (Chefredakteur des Magazins Amiga Future). Diesem zufolge könne er sich vorstellen, dass "AmigaOS 4 auch mal auf einer anderen Hardware-Plattform laufen" werde, schränkt aber sogleich ein, dass man Ankündigungen dieser Art mit Vorsicht genießen solle, "weil es leider niemanden gibt, der solche Informationen bei AmigaOS 4 richtig formuliert und zum richtigen Zeitpunkt publik macht". A-EON Technology: Keine Veränderung durch Varisys-Aufkauf
Nach der Übernahme des Nemo-Board-Entwicklers und -Produzenten Varisys durch Ultra Electronics (amiga-news.de berichtete) hat A-EON Technology nun auf seiner Facebook-Seite eine Pressemitteilung veröffentlicht, derzufolge hieraus keine Änderung der weiteren Pläne erwüchse:
"Auf die Nachricht hin, dass Varisys, unser Hardware-Partner und Entwickler des Nemo-Motherboards, von Ultra Electronics aufgekauft wurde, haben wir bezüglich aktueller und künftiger Entwicklungsprojekte in engem Kontakt gestanden.
Adam Barnes, der Technische Direktor, sagte hierzu: 'Wir freuen uns, die Beziehung mit A-EON und der Amiga-Gemeinde fortzusetzen. Wir hatten immer gehofft, durch die A-EON-Projekte geistiges Eigentum (IP) für Embedded-Anwendungen zu gewinnen, und daran hat sich nicht das geringste geändert.'
Paul Gentle, der Geschäftsführer, fügte hinzu: 'Adam und ich bleiben im Geschäft und sind von den künftigen Aussichten und Gelegenheiten, die sich ergeben werden, begeistert.' Matthew Leaman, Direktor von A-EON Technology, kommentierte den Aufkauf folgendermaßen: 'Wir möchten Varisys zu seiner Übernahme durch Ultra Electronics gratulieren und freuen uns darauf, unsere enge Geschäftsbeziehung zu intensivieren.'" Individual Computers: 100-MBit-Netzwerkkarte angekündigt
Im Forum von a1k.org kündigt Jens 'Paradroid' Schönfeld (Individual Computers) eine 100-MBit-Netzwerkkarte für sowohl Zorro-II- als auch Zorro-III-Steckplätze an (autosensing). Der Prototyp laufe nun stabil, so dass in etwa zwei Monaten mit der Verfügbarkeit gerechnet werden könne. Angepeilt sei ein Preis von 130 Euro. (snx)

Veranstaltung: Geit@Home #2 2013
Pressemitteilung: Von Freitag, dem 12., bis Sonntag, dem 14. Juli 2013, findet wieder ein Hardware-Treffen des Amiga-Clubs Osnabrück und des Amiga-Clubs Steinfurt statt.
Wer sich über die aktuellen Entwicklungen bzgl. MorphOS informieren will, ist herzlich eingeladen. Wir erwarten neben Pegasos-Rechnern auch Apple-Computer (Mac mini, PowerMac, PowerBook, iBook, PowerMac G5, iMac G5) und natürlich Efikas. Andere Systeme sind selbstverständlich ebenfalls willkommen. So wird auch mindestens ein AmigaOS-4-System erwartet. Mehr wären natürlich besser.
Teilnehmer, die ihren Rechner mitbringen wollen, werden gebeten, sich bitte anzumelden, da nur eine begrenzte Anzahl von Rechnerplätzen für externe Gäste zur Verfügung steht. Ansonsten steht es jedem frei, einfach mal so vorbeizuschauen.
Wer seinen Laptop mitbringt, braucht zwar keinen festen Platz, sollte sich aber dennoch anmelden, damit ich etwas den Überblick behalte. Denn eins ist jetzt schon klar: Es wird mächtig voll! Der Eintritt ist wie immer frei. (snx)

Amiga-/Atari ST-Klon: MiST
Till Harbaums "MiST" ist ein FPGA-Motherboard, das mittels verschiedener "Cores" unterschiedliche Heimcomputer oder Arcade-Automaten nachbilden soll. Ursprünglich als reiner Atari ST-Klon gedacht und deswegen - analog zum Minimig - "MiniST" getauft, lief zunächst ein Minimig-Core auf der Hardware. Seither fungiert das Projekt als "MiST" (aMIga/ST).
MiST verfügt über einen größeren FPGA, der auch eine 68000-CPU emuliert und so einen zusätzlichen Prozessor überflüssig macht. Das Motherboard hat u.a. vier USB-Ports, einen SD-Kartenslot, zwei Anschlüsse für Amiga-/Atari Joysticks sowie einen VGA-Ausgang.
Als Vertrieb fungiert der polnische Anbieter Lotharek der für ein einzelnes Board inklusive schwarzem oder weißen Metallgehäuse 190 Euro (zzgl. Versandkosten) verlangt. Zur Zeit werden die Gehäuse produziert, mit der Auslieferung der Rechner soll Ende Juni begonnen werden. (cg)

Speichererweiterung: A604n
Als Nachfolgerin der Amiga-600-Speichererweiterung A604 von Individual Computers (amiga-news.de berichtete) ist seit heute die A604n im Handel (Alinea, AmigaKit, Vesalia). Anstelle der integrierten Echtzeituhr trägt das aktuelle Modell einen Anschluss für das optionale Uhrenmodul des Herstellers. (snx)

amiga-news.de: Alte Meldungen in News-Datenbank importiert
Wie viele andere Webseiten dieser Zeit bestand amiga-news.de von 1998 bis 2001 hauptsächlich aus statischen HTML-Seiten, die damals mit GoldEd und einigen ARexx-Makros gewartet wurden - bei 300 bis 350 Meldungen pro Monat keine ganz einfache Aufgabe für die damaligen Redakteure. Im Januar bzw. Juni 2001 wurden dann die deutschen und englischen Bereiche des Angebots auf eine von Sven Drieling maßgeschneiderte Datenbanklösung umgestellt, die heute noch verwendet wird.
Christoph Gutjahr und Sven Drieling haben nun sämtliche rund 10.000 Meldungen aus der "statischen Phase" von Amiga-News in die Datenbank integriert. Unter anderem mussten dabei an die 900 HTML-Dateien konvertiert, zugeordnet und Korrektur gelesen werden - außerdem verwaltet der Server jetzt entsprechend viele Weiterleitungen, damit möglichst alle externen Links auf unser Angebot weiterhin gültig bleiben.
Insgesamt enthält die Amiga-News-Datenbank jetzt knapp 50.000 Meldungen, wovon rund 60% auf den deutschen Bereich entfallen. Ein Streifzug durch unsere Archive ist dabei durchaus ein abwechslungsreicher Zeitvertreib - finden sich doch traurige und noch traurigere Nachrichten genauso wie äußerst gelungene Kommentare zum Geschehen oder gar die eine oder andere Skurrilität. Spielestarter: X-bEnCH 0.90 Alpha
Bei X-bEnCH (Youtube-Video der Version 0.8) handelt es sich um eine grafische Oberfläche mit bis zu 128 Farben, welche zum Starten von WHDLoad-Spielen (.slave, .exe) die Workbench ersetzen kann und wenig Ressourcen erfordert.
Weitere Eigenschaften sind die sogenannten X-bEnCh-Scripts, mit denen sich bspw. auch Nicht-WHDLoad-Spiele aufrufen lassen, und eine zu den Workbench-CLI-Befehlen kompatible Kommandozeile. Das Programm läuft nach Angaben des Entwicklers auf allen Amigas von OCS bis AGA sowie vom 68000- bis zum 68060-Prozessor und benötigt im Betrieb sehr wenig Arbeitsspeicher.
Die Version 0.90 ist noch unvollständig und soll durch weitere 0.9x-Fassungen ergänzt werden. Bereits implementierte Hauptneuerungen:
- Top15 listing: This new feature is able to create a top of all your lists. Note that the top15 is already functional as previously planned, the needed database is created from the 0.8x versions
- Multikeys FastJump: Simply type the name of the game that you want and the new search engine will drive you directly to that one
- XplorEr: The long awaited X-bEnCh file manager is finaly here! Still young it will evolve quickly in the nexts release

Ultra Electronics erwirbt AmigaOne-X1000-Entwickler Varisys
Der britische Militärdienstleister Ultra Electronics hat die bislang im Besitz der Gründer Paul Gentle und Adam Barnes befindliche Varisys aufgekauft. Das Unternehmen war in Amiga-Kreisen durch die Entwicklung und Produktion des AmigaOne X1000 im Auftrag von A-EON Technology bekanntgeworden. (snx)
