Vom 30. Juni bis zum 2. Juli findet im italienischen Udine die diesjährige Codex Alpe Adria statt, eine Veranstaltung rund um alternatives Computing.

Neben der Firma Cloanto, die für das Emulatorpaket Amiga Forever bekannt ist und deren Amiga-Abteilung zu den Organisatoren zählt, haben auch Jens Schönfeld von individual Computers und der UAE-Autor Bernd Schmidt ihre Teilnahme bereits fest zugesagt.

Die Veranstalter weisen auf die relative Nähe vieler touristischer Ziele in den Alpen und an den Mittelmeerküsten sowie von Städten wie etwa Venedig, Florenz, Mailand und Salzburg hin und laden dazu ein, den Besuch der Codex Alpe Adria mit Reisen an diese Orte zu kombinieren. Freie Zimmer gibt es auch noch im offiziellen Hotel für die Veranstaltung in Udine.

Zum Rahmenprogramm gehören neben Festplattenweitwurf und einem Demo-Wettbewerb, bei dem unter anderem ein seltener C65-Prototyp sowie ein C-One-Entwicklersystem gewonnen werden können, auch kulinarische Aspekte wie Pizza und Pasta bei Ciccio (gefolgt vom traditionellen Codex Alpe Adria-Absinth) am Freitag und ein Friaulisches Bankett am Samstag.

Codex Alpe Adria 2006, the friendly alternative computing event, will take place in five weeks in Udine, which is within a one-hour drive from three airports, as well as from the Alps, beaches, Venice, Trieste, Austria, Slovenia and other beautiful locations. Florence, Milan, Salzburg and other popular tourist destinations, as well as major shopping malls (open on Sunday), are within easy reach, also for day trips from the event.

Jens Schönfeld (developer of tools such as the C64 Ethernet interface) and Bernd Schmidt (author of the UAE Amiga emulation software) already confirmed their attendance, while other familiar retrocomputing and demoscene personalities are finalizing their plans. It has become known that several software and hardware developers plan to make important product announcements during Codex Alpe Adria 2006. This is your chance to meet these legends in person. Cloanto's Amiga staff will also be there, as they are behind the event.

The new Codex Alpe Adria venue, conveniently located next to the Udine north highway exit, has ample open air space, resident WiFi, and supports sleepovers (rooms are also still available at the official hotel, which is in the city center next to the train station, and is connected by bus to the event). Prizes of the Codex Alpe Adria demo competitions include a rare and very valuable C65 prototype and a C-One development system. Other activities include pizza and pasta at Ciccio's (followed by traditional Codex Alpe Adria absinthe) on Friday, a Friulian banquet on Saturday, a hard disk throwing contest, and numerous excursions.

Great flight connections are still available at bargain prices. For example, GBP 1.79 (plus taxes) can buy you a ticket from London Stansted (STN) or Frankfurt Hahn (HHN) directly to Udine/Trieste (TRS) airport. Ryanair also flies to nearby Treviso (TSF) airport from Brussels Charleroi (CRL), Dublin (DUB), Girona/Barcelona (GRO), Liverpool (LPL), Paris Beauvais (BVA) and Shannon (SNN).
