Heise: LinuxTag: Corel gibt CorelDraw für Linux frei
«Manchmal ist Corel, der inzwischen zum Linux-Distributor gewandelten kanadische Spezialist
für Grafiksoftware, außer für schlechte Geschäftszahlen auch noch für eine Überraschung gut.
Auf dem LinuxTag führt Corel seine Linux-Grafiksuite CorelDraw 9 bereits vor (Stand 5.1.1.9).
Obwohl es anfangs hieß, das Paket werde voraussichtlich erst im Herbst veröffentlicht, kam
dann Freitag Nacht das Okay von der Corel-Zentrale in Kanada: CorelDraw 9 für Linux ist jetzt
freigegeben und soll in zwei bis drei Wochen im Laden stehen, allerdings nicht kostenlos. Die
Bildbearbeitung Photo-Paint steht dagegen schon jetzt im Web gratis zum Download bereit.»

Neue ppclibemu
ppclibemu ist eine Emulation der ppc.library und des PowerUp Kernels unter WarpOS. Ein
eigener ELF-LoadSeg Patch ist enthalten, und erlaubt es somit viele (einige?)
PowerUp-Anwendungen genau wie unter der original Umgebung zu starten. Dabei zeigen
die Programme die funktionieren keinen spürbaren Geschwindigkeitsunterschied. Einige
sind sogar schneller als mit dem original Kernel.
Neu in V0.8: PortLists, PPCFindTask, PPCFindTaskObject, PPCSignalTask, PPCDeleteTask.
Bitte testen, welche von beiden mit vorhandener PowerUp Software besser läuft. A oder B?

Update der Homepage und neue Domainnamen
Nicht nur das Design hat sich geändert, sondern auch unsere Domainnamen. Der alte Domainnamen
www.amigadev.de wird in den nächsten Tagen an Amiga Inc. übertragen.
Wir haben uns zu diesem Schritt entschlossen, da die Domains amigadev.COM und amigadev.NET schon
Amiga Inc. gehören und wir teilweise Verwirrung bei den Usern gestiftet hatten. Unter amigadev.DE
hatten einige logischerweise das deutsche Gegenstück zu amigadev.COM vermutet. Um diese
Verwirrung zu beenden und Amiga Inc. die Möglichkeit zum Erstellen von deutschen Seiten
unter amigadev.DE zu bieten, haben wir unserem Webhoster vor ein paar Tagen der Auftrag zur
Übertragung des Domainnamens an Amiga Inc. erteilt.
Unsere neuen Domainnamen lauten ab jetzt:
www.highantdev.de und www.highantdev.com
Die .DE Domain wird auf die deutschen Seiten und die .COM Domain auf die englischen Seiten
führen. Da die englischen Seiten im Moment noch nicht fertig sind, landen Sie derzeit noch

STEVE YOUNG, CNNfn ANCHOR, DIGITAL JAM: A computer company once on the
endangered species list is making a comeback. Amiga, which won raves
15 years ago but not enough users, is finding a new life after a
former truck driver bought the company. Just a few weeks
ago, Amiga released a new operating system and a new Amiga computer is
due out by the end of the year. But the company's chief has
his sights on something bigger. He wants Amiga in computers, PDAs,
cell phones, everywhere.
Joining us now to talk about Amiga's rebirth is its president & CEO
Bill McEwen. This really is a cult computer, isn't it?
BILL MCEWEN, PRESIDENT & CEO, AMIGA: Oh very much so.
There's quite an active following. In fact we've been very surprised
to have the support of numerous people and even larger corporations
wouldn't even know Amiga's existed in. It's been very exciting.
YOUNG: I remember going to stores in the '80s that had
Amigas. They were very advanced for the time with dedicated graphic
tips. That was one of the big deals, right?
MCEWEN: Absolutely. In fact, that's where, especially in the United
States, it's still in use by many studios, Disney (Company:
The Walt Disney Company; Ticker: DIS; URL:
http://www.disney.com/) , Warner Brothers, Universal Studios. We even
got words at some folks down in Atlanta CNN still use Amigas for doing
some of the video production there.
YOUNG: I want to bring in one of your debotees, Dick
Van Dyke, who's in Malibu, California. And how many Amigas do you
have?
DICK VAN DYKE, CELEBRITY: At the moment I have four, Steve.
YOUNG: What do you do with four Amigas, Dick?
VAN DYKE: Well they all network together. I'm using also some of the
better known computers, which I'll get rid of as soon as
the new Amiga comes out. Hi Bill.
MCEWEN: That's right, Dick.
YOUNG: There's no operating system Bill. We'll be able to do what?
MCEWEN: Well this is a different model than what we've
traditionally. Most operating systems today are tied to a chip set. In
other words, Windows is X86 based. Macintosh is PowerPC. Our new
operating system is independent of the processor, so when a developer
writes to the new Amiga software, it will automatically run
currently on 14 different processors. And it will also run not only on
our own operating system in a native format, but in a self host
environment it will run on Windows, on Linux, on Windows
CE, on OS9 and other products. In fact right now, the exact same OS
runs the Motorola (Company: Motorola Inc.; Ticker: MOT; URL:
http://www.mot.com/) P1088 JAVA SmartPhone.
YOUNG: Dick, everybody of course knows you as a wonderful performer,
comedian. Are you really a digital guy? Do you follow this tech talk?
VAN DYKE: I cannot follow the tech talk. I'm a graphics artist, Steve,
and I started out with the Amiga and it Wall Street the only game in
town for the graphics back then and still as far as I'm
concerned, the only one. But I'm not a technician, so I need a
forgiving computer that will cut me a little slack, and Amiga does that.
YOUNG: A graphics artist. Are you designing stuff for TV, for films,
or for print or what?
VAN DYKE: I do animations, composites, I do special effects. I've done
a little work from my own television series. I'm really an amateur,
but getting better.
YOUNG: We need you to send us some files. We'll put them on
the air and look at them.
VAN DYKE: Well I'd be tickled to death.
YOUNG: Bill, it sounded to me as if there were some similarities
to what that new company TransMed is saying about emulating
stuff in software and being able to run on any kind of operating
system.
MCEWEN: In many ways we can run on the TransMed chip
itself. We're taking what made the Amiga so great in its multimedia
capabilities, its library classes, everything that Dick enjoys with
the Amiga, and we're extrapolating that from the chip set
so you don't have to be bothered about having the greatest chip
because the operating system takes care of all that for the
individual. Folks at JAVA One saw the operating system
running on a Sega Dreamcast, on an LSI Logic (Company: LSI
Logic Corporation; Ticker: LSI; URL: http://www.lsilogic.com/) set top
box, on an X86 machine running Linux, on a Windows machine, and from
armed computing, their new prospector notebook computer, and the
code was all identical across all machines.
YOUNG: Dick, I saw in a research note that you leave you ravishing
house there in Malibu and drive into LA for Amiga club meetings. What
are those like?
VAN DYKE: Well we have people who have been with Amiga. Some people
who've been with Tim Genesis new tech-the toaster, which so many of us
still use for our graphics, and to trade ideas, and to show
each other our work. It's just kind of a social event.
YOUNG: Is it a little weird though, I mean like a Star Trek
convention?
VAN DYKE: Not quite that nerdy, but we're bad enough, Steve.
YOUNG: Bad enough. OK. Well thanks very much to both of you
for joining us tonight on DIGITAL JAM. The Amiga is a cult thing that
just won't go away. There are by the way something like 7 million. How
many of them do you have in inventory?
MCEWEN: Well there's an install base of 7 million, and then
we still have the A1200 model that people can still go out and buy
today. We've got about 17,000 of those in inventory now.
YOUNG: OK. Well Bill, Dick, thanks so much for joining us.
VAN DYKE: Thank you.

the last time that the magazine is released in this form and in
this site. From next month our magazine will be in html form and
most of the subjects will be renewed everyday. It also will not be in
amiga.gr but in www.hittp.com
The hittp.com will be a site which will be refering in other platforms
too, like Mac,Linux,PC and even consoles.
At this time we are waiting from software & hardware companies,
user groups and simple users who have done some work their
contribution in order altogether to give a better informing and nice

AppMI ist eine große Sammlung von Images für Toolbars im GlowIcons Design, die vielleicht
ein Standard für das Classic Amiga-System werden könnte. Die Sammlung ist frei erhältlich
für Programmierer und alle Interessierten, aber um das Archiv zu erhalten ist eine
Registrierung nötig und jeder, der ein Produkt, das AppMI benutzt, veröffentlicht, sollte
mir eine Kopie der Vollversion des Programms zukommen lassen.
Aus diesem Grund erhalten nur registrierte Benutzer das Archiv. Die Registrierungsseite für
AppMI ist jetzt online und die Veröffentlichung ist für Ende Juli 2000 geplant. (ps)

AMIGA Offering two A1200HDs as Raffle Grand Prizes at AmiWest 2000!
Amiga International, Inc., has donated two Amiga 1200HDs (260 MB hard
drives) with Magic Packs which will be given away as grand prizes at the end
of the show days on both Saturday and Sunday.
Hourly raffles will be held on both Saturday and Sunday of the show where
prizes, donated by the vendors and other sources, will be given away.
These can include hardware as well as software. You must be present at the
raffle to obtain your prize. We will not ship prizes.
AMIGA has also provided an assortment of the round Amiga mouse pads and the
"Back for the Future" CDs which will be given away during the hourly
raffles.

Neue Aminet Uploads mit Schmankerl der Woche (Update 2)
Wie bereits vor einigen Tagen bekannt gegeben, wird Alfred ab und an einzelne Aminet-Programme
kommentieren. Heute hat er sich eingehend mit RndWbPix von Stephan Rupprecht befasst.

Da mein alter A3000 in jeder Hinsicht extrem treu und zuverlässig ist und
mich nur ganz selten mit unvorhergesehenen Wundern oder Katastrophen
überrascht, musste ich mir zur Auflockerung des grauen Compi-Alltags
einen zusätzlichen Kick installieren: Backgroundpics, nach dem
Zufallsprinzip ausgewählt, machen jeden Neustart zu einem
1-Minuten-ÜberraschungsEi.
Um das richtige Programm dafür zu finden, habe ich längere Zeit im
AMINET herumgestöbert und verschiedene Tools ausprobiert; schliesslich
bin ich bei 'RndWBPix' hängengeblieben. Die Gründe? Nun:
- 'RndWBPix' ist Freeware, genauer gesagt: Mailware.
- Es verbraucht extrem wenig Massen- und Arbeitsspeicher.
- Es hat gerade nur die Features, die tatsächlich benötigt werden und ist
deshalb äusserst einfach zu installieren.
- Es verlangsamt nur unwesentlich den StartUp, da es im Pic-Verzeichnis eine
Index-Datei anlegt, aus der dann bei jedem Neustart das
entsprechende Hintergrundbild ausgewählt wird.
- Ich habe in den Monaten, wo ich 'RndWBPix' benutze, keinen einzigen
Absturz gehabt, der auf dieses Proggy hätte zurückgeführt werden
können; auch konnte ich keine Unverträglichkeit mit irgendeinem anderen
Programm feststellen.
Was ich mir von einem zukünftigen Update wünsche, ist allenfalls
noch ein Bilderwechsel nach voreinstellbarem Zeitintervall; dann wäre
mein Glück mit 'RndWBPix' vollkommen. Eine solche Erweiterung
könnte allerdings auch dazu führen, dass das kleine Programm dadurch
zu klobig und unhandlich wird...
Es spricht aber sicher nichts dagegen, dem Stephan Rupprecht das mal
vorzuschlagen?!
Nun noch einige kurze Anmerkungen zur Installation:
'RndWBPix wird' zweckmässigerweise nach C: verfrachtet. In die
startup-sequence, und zwar vor (!!) IPrefs, kommt eine kurze
Kommandozeile, in der der Pfad für die Bilder angegeben sein muss sowie
der Ort, wo sie sich präsentieren sollen: WB-Window und/oder WB-Screen
und/oder Window-Hintergrund; dies ist genau im DOC beschrieben.
Ausserdem kann man vorgeben, ob die Bilder nach Zufallsprinzip oder in
alphabetischer/numerischer Reihenfolge geladen werden sollen. (Ich habe
letzteres gewählt, weil ich sichergehen will, dass tatsächlich jedes
meiner supercoolen Pics einmal drankommt - und ich diesem Zufalls-Generator
noch nie so recht getraut habe...).
So, und dann kann man abends in seiner Stammkneipe zum Besten geben: "Leute,
stellt euch vor, heute habe ich RNDWBPIX installiert!"
Fazit: wer den grossen Nervenkitzel sucht, sollte besser einen
Abenteuerurlaub in südlicher Inselwelt buchen; Für den
kleinen Nervenkitzel zwischendurch ist 'RndWBPix' genau das Richtige.

Neue AmigaAMP Plugins
In den letzten Tagen sind zwei neue AmigaAMP Visualisierungs Plugins
erschienen, die sich meiner Meinung nach wirklich sehen lassen können:
1) WaterPlugin von Lukasz Lica alias BBAMIGO
Es sieht ähnlich aus, wie das gute alte FullSpectrum Plugin, hat jedoch
dank Warp3D zusätzlich eine schön wellige Wasseroberfläche vor einer
hübschen Berglandschaft. Poppig bunt ist es außerdem noch dazu :)
2) Subspace aus meiner Feder
Es sieht aus wie 3D, ist aber komplett zweidimensional und basiert auf den
bekannten WinAMP Plugins Geiss und G-Force. Die Wellenform des gerade
abgespielten Tracks wird in sich stetig verändernden und ineinander
übergehenden Mustern und Formen dargestellt. Das so entstandene Bild
wird zusätzlich auf verschiedene Arten verzerrt und weichgezeichnet, sodass
sich die unterschiedlichsten Effekte ergeben. Von einem rasanten Flug durch
einen wabernden Korridor über die Korona einer totalen Sonnenfinsternis
bis hin zu scheinbar davonfließendem Wasser ist alles dabei :)
Beide Plugins benötigen einen PPC und WarpUP v4. (ps)

Ab heute gibt es xadmaster.lha,
die neue Version vom Archive-Extrahiersystem XAD im Aminet. XAD unterstützt über 40
Datei- und Diskettenarchivtypen und mehrere Amiga-Dateisysteme. Mit
Voodoo-X.lha als
Oberfläche ist es beim Extrahieren von Archiven kaum schlagbar. Ausserdem

Die WWW-Seite enthält jetzt ein umfassendes Download-Archiv, das sich insbesondere
auch an "UAE"-Nutzer wendet. Außerdem besteht die Möglichkeit, sich in einen
Informations-Verteiler eintragen zu lassen, über den man vor allem über das Erscheinen
neuer Ausgaben unterrichtet wird. Ausgabe 45 wird jedoch nicht pünktlich erscheinen
können. Stattdessen ist mit voraussichtlich 2-3 Wochen Verspätung zu rechnen
(Beiträge werden freilich noch gerne entgegengenommen). Was davon nun eine gute
und was eine schlechte Nachricht ist, möge jeder selbst entscheiden... (ps)

In einer Pressemitteilung gibt Amiga Inc. bekannt, mit Compuquick Media Center eine strategische
Vertriebsvereinbarung getroffen zu haben. Compuquick Media Center (Columbus, Ohio, USA) wird das
neue SDK (Software Development Kit) und die Amiga Classic Produkte vertreiben.
