OnyxSoft: BackUp 1.71 and DECH 1.50
The developers group OnyxSoft has updated two of their programs: BackUp and DECH.
BackUp 1.71
An average copying speed in kB or MB/s has been added to Daniel 'Deniil' Westerberg's backup tool. It will show up after finishing. It's mostly interesting when you make the first complete backup, since all time is considered, not just during actual copying.
Please note that if you transfer more than 2.5 TB in one go, the speed calculator won't cope.
DECH 1.50
Deniil's E-Compiler Handler (which works for make, gcc or whatever too) is a graphical compiler aid. Changes:
- More descriptive gadget names
- Editable gadget names
- Ctrl-C in the console is sent to the executed program instead of eaten by DECH itself
- Added datetime and bold to compile and run output to clearly mark where it starts when scrolling
- Added a window sleepy pointer when compiling
- The compiler priority wasn't properly loaded from prefs
- Fixed some layout issues when using larger fonts

MorphOS: Prospect of version 3.0
Nicolas 'Henes' Sallin has given an outlook on the next update of the PowerPC operating system MorphOS at MorphZone.
- The next public version of MorphOS will be version 3.0 and introduce support for PowerBook (only 15" and 17" PowerBooks of versions 5.6 till 5.9, which are the two latest revisions D and E)
- It will be a completely free upgrade for already registered users
- There will probably be some experimental wireless support for a few external cardbus cards featuring WPA/WPA2; that was demonstrated in Essen
- There will be enhanced 3D drivers for the R2xx range of Radeon cards
- Proper use of AGP bus has been added where reasonable and available, helping on some low vmem issues with Mac mini for example
- There will be a builtin CD/DVD recording tool named Jalapeno
- There will be various other enhancements which are not disclosed yet
- Release date can't be expected before December
Furthermore, G5 iMac/PowerMac support will not be released anytime soon. It was just some experiment and no development work is done on it, Henes continued. The focus would be on bug fixing and implementing remaining features for 3.0 now. Also the OS will not be released for another CPU architecture in the next 12 months. (snx)

AmigaOS 4: integrated development environment CodeBench 0.23
Simon "Rigo" Archer has released a new beta version of his integrated development environment CodeBench (screenshot). Codebench 0.23 requires AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1, but Update 3 is highly recommended for use with Codebench.
The free edition available right now comes in two flavours: One for use with the AmigaOS 4 SDK, one for users of the commercial programming language Hollywood.
Changes in version 0.23:
- When loading a project by double-clicking the project icon, the loaded project was not internally assigned properly. This led to DSI errors when trying to use the menus. Thanks to Paul E. Blodel for the report.
- When selecting a directory of files to be added to the project, the files were added with a root path, rather than in a sub-directory. This would lead to the files being saved into the wrong place, and could potentially over-write an existing file with the wrong contents.
- When switching files, if a file that was not part of the project was made current, the project list still showed the previous file as selected. Fixed
- The enabling/disabling of the "Compiler" buttons has now been moved into each plugin. This should allow a much greater degree of acuracy in determining just what options should be available.
- Now only shows the public screen name in the titlebar when on a custom screen.
- Added a couple more keyboard descriptions in the "Key Bindings" editor for keys that do not print a glyph.
Changes in AmigaOS4SDK.ccplugin 5.1:
- API changes so bumped to V5
Changes in Hollywood.ccplugin 5.1:
- Fixed a problem with loading the dictionary and the description was actually the prototype. Reported by Paul E. Bloedel.
- Added functionality to set the "compiler" buttons as required.
- Any errors or warnings are cleared now when running the script just like when building the script.
- Fixed a few more subtle operational issues.
- API changes so bumped to V5.

AROS: Zune bounty divided into separate projects
The original bounty project for enhancement of the MUI clone for AROS, Zune, is now being split into smaller steps. Current donors are advised to request by e-mail that their contributions are moved to the new "Phase 1" bounty detailed at the title link.
This first step's focus will be to reach complete compatibility with MUI version 3.8. So far, 265 US-Dollars have been donated to it, while 545 Dollars are still with the original bounty. (snx)

Amiga-Meeting 2011: Further exhibitors, dealers and developers wanted
The organisers of this year's Amiga-Meeting in Bad Bramstedt (near Hamburg), Germany, are still looking for further exhibitors, dealers and developers to take part. So far almost 40 participants have been registered. Among them are for example Alinea Computer, Geit, Entwickler-X and the creators of Boingsworld and AmitopiaTV.
Especially AROS has been widely missing in the previous years, thus especially developers of this operating system are very welcome. In this context Sven Scheele of Amiga-Club Schleswig-Holstein would like to remind everyone that developers get a discount on their registrations. (snx)

Emulator: WinUAE 2.3.3
Version 2.3.3 of the Amiga emulator WinUAE has been released today. The update introduces a new VSync mode to solve the problem of complete CPU usage.
New features:
- New very low latency VSync mode, autodetects real refresh rate, no more 100% CPU usage, supports also windowed modes. (Not compatible with fastest possible CPU modes but planned in future)
- Experimental rawinput joystick/joypad support. (-rawhid command line parameter). Added because DirectInput is said to introduce some extra input lag.
Updates:
- Real cause for Max Transfer IDE problem found. IDE emulation detects and logs it now. (*)
- CD image audio buffer increased slightly, some systems had glitches in CD audio.
- Non-configured joystick/mouse autoswitch update: short firebutton press or move left = insert into joystick port, longer press or move right = insert into mouse port.
- Add Harddrive option does not require Administrator privileges anymore, most removable drives can be used without higher privileges, at least under Windows 7.
Bugs removed:
- IDE emulation write hang introduced in 2.3.2.
- A590/A2091 emulation crash if CPU was 68020+.
- On the fly CD switching (both images and real CDs) reliability improved.
- Direct3D blank screen problem is now 100% fixed. Really.
- win32.hardfile_path didn't work.
- On the fly resolution change didn't work correctly, resolution autoswitch improved.
- Key or joystick button mapped to mouse direction didn't work.
- Analog stick mapped to mouse had too fast and unstable speed.
*) Max Transfer problem was introduced with ATA v2 specification. ROM built-in IDE driver assume ATA v1 behavior, some drives are compatible with ATA v1, some are not and will require Max Transfer fix. It is NOT a drive bug. (snx)

NetBSD/amiga now supporting Prometheus PCI
The PCI sub system recently integrated into NetBSD/amiga has been expanded with a driver supporting the Prometheus PCI board. All PCI cards supported by device independent NetBSD drivers will now also work on an Amiga equipped with a Prometheus board - provided they do not require DMA, which the Prometheus hardware does not support.
