Preview-Videos: Point'n Click-Adventure "The Secret of Middle City"
"The Secret of Middle City" (TSMC) developed by the Italian team GDG Entertainment is a Point'n Click adventure written with Hollywood, which is supposed to be released for AmigaOS and Android. The programmer Gianluca "g0blin" Girelli has released some screenshots of the latest level of development of the game:

On Youtube during the last months videos of some "Tech Demos" (1, 2, 3) have been released, which do not show the latest graphic level of development but diverse technical aspects.

Since the year 2000, TSMC was anounced time and again (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), but meanwhile, according to Girelli, now the game is being developed further - a first alpha version was sent to testers. (cg) (Translation: dr)

68k-Core for FPGA: The "Apollo-Core" in use
The "Apollo-Core" is the reimplementation of a m68k-CPU in a FPGA, which was originally developed for the Natami.

Because instead of a CPU the Vampire 600 has a FPGA-unit, it can be used as test environment for the Apollo-Core. Now the developers (group shot) have released a first video (AVI-file), which shows a Vampire together with an Apollo-Core, running Amiga demos.

In order to be able to compare the demonstrated speed with different computers, the used demo is available for download (Executable, 70 KB). It shows the calculated frames per second: three figures in orange are integers, the fourth blue figure shows a tenth of a whole frame.

The Core is supposed to be made available as a free update to all owners of a Vampire, as soon as all software tests have been passed. According to Boehn other accelerator boards are in development, which have more powerful FPGAs and therefore are able to use other ALUs.

According to Gunnar von Boehn on a1k.org, the Apollo-Core is not a complete m68k-implementation. Currently it has the following features integrated:
  • + the major part of the 68060 instruction sets
  • - Bitfields are deactivated in the build
  • + 68020 EA-modes are activated - if they use the Brief-Extension Format
  • + indirect jumps are activated in the memory
  • - indirect EA with Inner/outer displacement are deactivated in double memory
  • The caches are coherent.
  • - Memory stream detection and automatic prefetching are deactivated
  • + Out of order memory access is activated
Hint of the editorial team: We do not kno how this limitations affect the compatibility or speed of different software. Because the used demo was offered by the Apollo developers themselves, it must be assumned that it is adapted to the features of the Apollo-Core at best. (cg) (Translation: dr)

GUI-development: MUI Royale 1.1 for Hollywood (Update)
Press release: Airsoft Softwair is proud to announce the immediate availability of MUI Royale 1.1. This update contains some minor fixes and new features..

MUI Royale is a plugin for Hollywood 5 (screenshots: 1, 2, 3) that finally allows you to easily create MUI GUIs with Hollywood. MUI Royale supports over 40 MUI classes including popular third-party classes like TextEditor.mcc and TheBar.mcc.

Creating and managing menustrips is also fully supported. The plugin sets new standards concerning the ease of use because the GUI layout can be conveniently defined using an XML file that is converted into a MUI GUI by MUI Royale on the fly. GUI design has never been so easy! Of course, new features of MUI 4.0 are also supported.

The highlight of MUI Royale, however, is certainly its inbuilt Hollywood MUI class. This class allows dynamic embedding of complete Hollywood displays into MUI GUIs which can be used to combine the best of both worlds - MUI's proven GUI skills and Hollywood's unequalled multimedia capabilities - into one powerful application, limited by the scope of your creativity only.

MUI Royale requires at least Hollywood 5.2 and is provided free of charge for all users of Hollywood. It is available for AmigaOS 3 (m68k), AmigaOS 4 (PPC), MorphOS (PPC), and AROS (i386).

The package comes with almost 20 example scripts, many of which are direct ports from the MUI 3.8 SDK by Stefan Stuntz, but there are also original developments like demonstrations of how to create a video player using the combined power of Hollywood and MUI. On top of that MUI Royale comes with extensive documentation as a 280 page PDF file which is also available in the HTML, AmigaGuide, and CHM formats thanks to the Hollywood documentation system.

All this makes MUI Royale the truly royal MUI experience, carefully crafted for you Kings and Queens of MUI!

Update: (18:14, 09.05.14, snx)

Changes in version 1.1:
  • Change: Updated documentation
  • New: VideoPlayer example allows you to switch between antialias interpolation and simple scaling
  • Fix: Fixed a bug in the Slider.Stringify; it didn't block Hollywood's refresh server which could lead to a deadlock, for example in the VideoPlayer.hws example; this fix requires a Hollywood version newer than 5.3
  • New: Added Texteditor.GetText method; this allows you to get the partial contents from a text editor gadget (requested by Richard Lake)
  • New: Window.PubScreen allows you to open windows on all public screens; use this only if you have good reasons because normally this is something that the user should decide (requested by Richard Lake)
  • Fix: Window.Borderless didn't work because MUI Royale enforced a window title (reported by Jörg Renkert)
  • New: Popfile, Popdrawer, Popfont, and Poplist classes support the AdvanceOnCR attribute now for their string gadgets (requested by Richard Lake)
  • New: Window.ActiveObject can also be used as a notification attribute now (requested by Richard Lake)
  • Fix: Application.AboutMUIRoyale() didn't work when MUIRoyale.hwp was in a folder that contained spaces (reported by Achim Kern)
  • New: All of the Column class attributes have an applicability of ISG now which means that you can also change them during runtime
  • New: Added Listviewcolumn.Hidden attribute which can be used to show/hide single columns; this requires at least MUI 3.9 (requested by Richard Lake)
  • New: Added Listview.Rename() method that allows you to rename entries in a listview row (requested by Richard Lake)
  • Fix: Listview.Sort() didn't work correctly; it now accepts an additional argument which tells according to which column the list view should be sorted (reported by Richard Lake)
  • New: Area.ContextMenu can be used with mui.Set() now to change the context menu of a MUI object; to remove the context menu from an object completely, pass the special constant "(none)" in mui.Set() (requested by Richard Lake)
  • New [OS4/MorphOS]: Listview.TitleClick allows you to get notified about clicks on the title bars of a listview (requested by Richard Lake)
  • Fix [AROS]: MUI Royale uses relative search paths now when looking for TextEditor.mcc and TheBar.mcc custom classes (reported by Nigel Tromans)
  • Fix: Area.ContextMenuTrigger didn't set the TriggerValue correctly (reported by Richard Lake)
  • Fix: When using Listview.GetEntry together with "Active" on a Dirlist object in which no entry was active, MUI Royale crashed (reported by Richard Lake)
  • New [OS4]: Pixel-exact virtgroup resizing now possible because it is now supported by OS4's MUI now, too
  • Fix: "Selected" attribute in button class did not work when used with "True" or "False" (reported by Matthias Rustler)
  • Fix: Installer didn't work with paths that had spaces in them (reported by Richard Lake)
