Elbox: Mediator Multimedia CD update 1.26 supports further TV cards
Elbox Computer is pleased to have completed development of drivers for a series of new TV card models, these drivers being released today. See the Mediator Driver Guide for the current list of PCI TV cards supported in MEDIATOR busboards. The MM CD 1.26 update is free for all registered Mediator Multimedia CD users.
Additionally, the new tv.library ver. 4.0 has added Stereo-NICAM TV sound processing for TV cards fitted with a single-chip Digital TV Sound Demodulator-Decoder TDA9874A by Philips.
The new library has added processing of the new Front End by YMEC: TVision 5V TVF-8533B/DF. These Front Ends are installed in the latest Prolink TV cards, e.g. in the now-supported PixelView PlayTV Pro MPEG (model M4800). New Front Ends are much more sensitive than those fitted in older TV card models. Quality of the broadcast is now excellent, even when the antenna signal is relatively weak.
The new library has added processing of the new radio sets installed in the latest TV cards. These are single-chip, digitally tuned FM stereo radio sets TEA5767 by Philips.
To ensure handling new radio sets, the API of tv.library was expanded. The current developer's documentation (ver. 4.0) is available from the Mediator Multimedia CD 1.26. The new tv.library is compatible backwards with all the previous tv.library functions maintained. As a result, the current versions of TV card control GUI -- like TvR and SuperTV -- work with the new tv.library without any modifications.
The MM CD 1.26 update includes also the new driver for Fast Ethernet 10/100Mbps cards. The FastEthernet.device ver. 1.15 driver has been reworked for AmigaOS4 compatibility.
Info on the current versions is available in the DOWNLOADS | Mediator section. The current list of supported PCI cards is available in the Mediator Driver Guide. The info about Mediator-related sources you will find in the COMMUNITY section. (snx)

Minipeg: Germany's smallest Pegasos computer/GPS support included
The Minipeg is a Pegasos I/G3 board built into a custom small case of stable V2A stainless steel. The case measures 34 x 9 x 19 cm, the steel has a thickness of 1 mm. The second component is a 7" TFT monitor which power is supplied by the Minipeg. The monitor has VGA input and a remote control. Keyboard and mouse are wireless. Furthermore, a fanless Radeon 7000 graphics card and a 2.5" hard disk are used.
The Minipeg is powered either by a small power supply, a car battery or some nickel-cadmium accumulator batteries. The power consumption is 24 Watt at 12 Volt. Instead of a normal ATX power supply, a fanless DC/DC converter with an ATX mainboard cable is used. The converter works with 10-30 Volt direct voltage.
Also integrated into the Minipeg is a GPS receiver, for which a custom navigation software has been written. Thus, the Minipeg can be used in a car or possibly even at hiking.
The software currently uses a map of Germany scaled 1:600,000 and operates in two modi: as a viewer for road maps and for GPS navigation. The first modus allows to scroll or zoom the map. In the second modus, the map display is directly linked with the data coming from the GPS receiver. After switching into the GPS modus, the map is centered to the current GPS position once the first data are received from the GPS module.
Alternatively and independent of the chosen modus, it's possible at any time to display the GPS information in a transparent window.
The projection of the reticule of longitude and latitude degrees on the current map unfortunately doesn't deliver an exact positioning. The aberration on this map may be up to 10 km depending on the direction. The work needed for a correct calculation of the position on this map would not be justified by the cost-value ratio. But the inaccuracy gets moderated by using a GNS database.
A GNS database contains coordinates linked to the corresponding places. These GNS databases do exist for all countries and can be downloaded from Internet. The accuracy of this database for Germany is about one square kilometer. These places are displayed also by the software when the map gets centered to the current position of when these data are displayed in a separate window. This way, the user always knows where on the map he's currently located. (snx)

E3B: USB controller 'Subway' - another production run? (Update)
E3B are currently gauging the demand for their clockport USB controller Subway. Using this
expansion, even Classic Amigas lacking Zorro- or PCI-slots have access to
USB peripherals. The remaining stock of Subway cards has been sold quite
some time ago - but given sufficient demand, E3B would be willing
to produce another batch.
If you're seriously interested in purchasing a Subway USB controller,
please contact Michael Boehmer. At least 30 orders are required to justify the production costs. The anticipated price for a single unit would be about 89 EUR (incl. VAT).
Update: (07.09.2004, 13:45, cg)
To use the Subway with an Amiga 600, a socalled 'A600 clockport adapter' is required. Jens Schönfeld from Individual Computers tells us that these adapters are in stock right now and ship for 9.90 EUR. (cg) (Translation: cg)

- Region marking was inaccurate.
- Problem when viewing small images, like icons, etc.
- Levels operator. Formula was slightly broken. If somebody misses old mode then I can re-add it.

- Added mask shape selection to median filter.
- Added "border mode" to resize operator. Works the same way as in ImageFX.
- Now it's also possible to delete directories (a bit limited though. You can't unprotect files for example).

Amiforce Redesign
CJ-Stroker has reworked amiforce.de from ground up. The frames are now past, the usage of the new site should now be very user friendly because of a "navigation history". Some spots need some finetuning according to the author but it is being worked on.
With the redesign new rubrics find their way onto the page, planned is among other things an OS4 project section. At latest with the existing of according hardware will a special aspect lie on the new AmigaOS.
The site is optimized for a resolution of 1024x768 and should work with every browser except Opera that causes some problems. The compatibility with Amiga browsers was important here.
For constructive critics and suggestions to improve the site is the author always eager to listen to.

New AmiBlitz distribution with numerous improvements
From now on there's a much improved AmiBlitz2 distribution available for download. Because of the many changes and their size an update archive for an earlier distribution doesn't make sense anymore. Update archives will be available with the next version.
Unfortunately, many things were missing in the last distribution so that a seamless working wasn't possible. Thanks to Marco Möring aka Blackbird without whom the bugs and incompleteness of that distribution would probably never have been noticed.
Next to Marco my thanks go to his wife Margit Möring. Together we three could translate further guides into German.
Thanks go of course to Bernd Rösch and Thilo Köhler who work without a break on the future of AmiBlitz2.
Changes:
- Much improved install/deinstall scripts.
- After the installation are all settings immediately available.
- After the deinstallation is the archive in its original condition and can be installed again in the particular version.
- New Ped.prefs for the NEWCOLORMODE. Important: works only in screenmodes with 8/16 colours.
- More German translation of AcidGuides.
- Two versions of all (English/German).
- Further includes by Thilo Köhler.
- New Usermacro.guide.
- Many errors removed.
- Contains now many missing components, e.g. MUI2.res.
AmiBlitz2 reference manual in HTML:
Thanks to Markus Rütter is the reference manual for Blitz2 now available in an HTML version.
Next to the online version on Amiforce the manual is available for download, too.
Thanks to Markus Rütter who kindly gave the permission to do so.
News about the German manual:
At the moment is a PDF version of this manual being worked on. The available Postscript version can only be opened and printed with Pagestream. The PDF version will follow soon. So everybody can now print his/her manual. Planned is for now a version for the print of pages in A4 size. These can perfectly be put into a file. Thanks go to Andreas Röhr aka trion who really helped me very much. Thanks go also to Silvio Kurze aka MangaClub who made a first conversion.

OnyxSoft: Updates for JoinSplitter and TheMPegEncGUI
The Swedish developer group OnyxSoft introduces Adam 'ChaOzer' Waldenberg who is
an Amiga and now also MorphOS developer for many years as a new member.
Additionally there are updates of the programs
JoinSplitter and
TheMPegEncGUI. Others are
supposed to follow.
TheMPegEncGUI is a graphical user interface for the following MPEG-Audio-Encoders:
- MusicIn (68k or PowerUP)
- Pegase (68k or WarpOS)
- Ncode (68k, PowerUP or WarpOS)
- Lame (PowerUP or WarpOS)
- BladeEnc - (68k or PowerUP)
- MP3Enc (68k)
- Ogg Vorbis
- MPEGA (68k, PowerUP or WarpOS)
In version 2.41 now the rawbyteorder-function works. Besides this a bug has been cleared
when putting back the estimated time of completion.
And here are the changes in version 1.16 of JoinSplitter which is a program that can
split or join bigger files:
- Worked around a bug in the GUI-engine which made the Splitter part crash under OS4
- Reworked the gauges a little to be more sensitive to different window border sizes
- Fixed a bug in one of the split modes if memory was running low. It would generate the wrong size for the splitted files
- Fine-tuned the conversion between kilos (1024<->1000)

Spiel: ToT - Tamar needs new land!
For the third time the popular action 'Tamar needs new land!' gets started.
Since Tamar is once again completely settled new regions have to be opened to give space to new settlers.
These opportunities are really rare and you should use these!
On September, 1st there's such an opportunity. Start with other players under the same conditions and show them that you are the one who should get the emperor's crown!
Learn about regions of Tamar that no man has entered before. Be challenged by dragons, undead and other creatures and show that you can compete with other real people.
Hint 1: Our price (250,- Euro) for the first emperor of Tamar who founded his/her empire after January, 1st 2004 can still be won and we would be pleased if you'd be the winner (rules for this can be read in the referring action in the ToT forum).
Hint 2: Enter the keyword 'Shareware' in the serial field when registering for ToT to play for free for some time. A round fee will be demanded when you are deeper into the game. Enter in the notes field that you want to start on September, 1st on new land.
Enjoy playing ToT.

Announcement: New Amiga game WizardGrounds
For some time now I'm working on a new game for the Amiga. It is called WizardGrounds and it is meant to become a small RTS game.
Now that I've assembled a first alpha I thought I should announce it. There aren't many actions right now and no end, either. It is just a beginning and is still in development (that is moving not regularly).
For now it is only tested on my A4000 and under WinUAE. I'd be pleased to get a little bit of feedback (e.g. on which systems it is running, etc).
Enjoy it!

RP-Online: Law-court dismisses suit against Grokster and Morpheus-creator
»San Francisco (rpo).
An American law-court decided that the authors of the exchange programs Grokster and Morpheus
are not responsible for the violation of the copyright done by the users.
Because the illegally exchanged films and songs have not been saved centrally on servers
of the software developer thus they are not responsible for the content of the files.
Thus the law-court dismissed a suit of the film studios and record companies.« (ps) (Translation: dr)
