MorphOS: OpenPictureSpace 2.5 released
Marc le Douarain, meanwhile the maintainer of the program originally written for Linux by Thomas Hänselmann, released version 2.5 of OpenPictureSpace for MorphOS.

OpenPictureSpace shows a directory containing images as thumbnails (screenshot). Supported are JPEG, GIF, PNG and IFF-ILBM including the Amiga specific HAM and EHB modes.

In contrary to other programs of this kind OpenPictureSpace does not display the pictures in a grid with n x m thumbnails but scales them only vertically and tries to put as many as possible in each row to use the screen space as best as possible.

Changes in version 2.5:
  • Using powersdl.library and powersdl_image.library (makes more image formats in the future possible)
  • Wheelmouse keys can be used for scrolling of the thumbs list
  • Delay when displaying the whole image removed
  • Picture rotation via the '<' key
  • Displaying useful keys at the bottom
  • Do not try to double the size of the current opened image despite the fact that it is possible!
  • Error removed when entering a drive for the path

MorphOS: MisterBanana 1.3 published
It follows the original press release concerning the publishing of the newest version for the known desktop mascot for MorphOS:

"No may without Banana

That's our motto. Sadly current MisterBanana 1.5 with all the cool extra features only works properly with still unreleased MorphOS 1.666. But thanks to the banana god, we could resurrect source code of MisterBanana 1.4 and bumped it down to 1.3 to make this update release happen just in time.

It's hopefully the last before the 1.5 release, and solves no bugs or problems with the previous public release, but adds a few new sayings and options, including faked transparency, an updated hotlist, anonymizer support and a secret feature to destroy the world.

We wish you fun!

Oh.. and get the little fellow from here or become amazed 'bout this very cool screenshot." (cg) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: GUI toolkit FLTK
FLTK is a C++ GUI toolkit for UNIX/Linux (X11), Microsoft Windows, MacOS X and AmigaOS 4.0, that is licensed according to the LGPL. FLTK might be linked static or as shared library. The kit contains a GUI-Builder called FLUID also.

The Amiga version (screenshots: 1, 2) is described by the author as "work in progress", but is almost complete. Nearly all functions of the official version 1.1.6 is implemented already, the following features are still missing and will be added in a following release:

  • OpenGL support
  • Drag and Drop
  • Threads
  • Custom pointers
There are more than 60 demos available which show the potential of that tool kit. The whole package is put to several archives:

Libs, includes and documentation: fltk.lha (1 MB)
Demos: fltk_demos.lha (11 MB)
FLUID: fltk_fluid.lha (622 KB)

The source code will be made available within the next days, until then a "not yet cleaned up" version is obtainable from the author by e-mail request. (cg) (Translation: ub)

Amiga User List: GAUHPIL Database in Spanish
The GAUHPIL (Geographical Amiga Users Home Page Internet List) is a MySQL based database created and moderated by Dietmar Knoll. It contains website addresses of Amiga users, that can be questioned by continent and country. Additionally, it features a flexible search function.

Thanks to the kind support of Dámaso Domínguez, the GAUHPIL is now also translated to Spanish. Furthermore, Dámaso again found many users from the "Lost Links List" by hardworking research. Other defective links were moved there. So the database contents could be cleaned up significantly.

Currently, the GAUHPIL lists 713 users from 38 countries. The number of users for each country can be found on the page "All Countries". (snx)

Current state of DKG II and SN-Archiv homepage
The SN-Archiv homepage is now accessable via the short URL sn-archiv.de, too.

Of SN-EuroArchiv is version 1.95 under development. Image support for the HTML support for course coins sets was added that will be available in the future for special coins, too. Additionally, some bugs were removed that concerned the HTML support. An example for the new ccs generating can be found here (needs some loading time because of the images).

Steffen Nitz also decided to create an images gallery for SN-EuroArchiv. The page is still under construction and can be accessed via this URL.

There are thoughts to create a similar gallery for "Die Kleine Gilde II" to show the scope of the game. DKG II v0.70 is almost finished but the author has had not found the time to do the last adaptions to release this version. Things like town fires, burglary and sabotages like setting fires or placing bombs at competitiors buildings were added. You can now place things in buildings that are quite helpful, e.g. against fire and burglary. (ps) (Translation: wk)

Update of AmigaSYS 1.7.1 for E-UAE (beta version)
AmigaSYS is available in a new beta version for E-UAE. AmigaSYS is a collection of a comfortable Workbench environment for use with the Amiga emulator UAE in the way of AIAB ("Amiga in a box").

AmigaSYS contains no Kickstart-ROM because of legal reasons and you need a Workbench 3.0/3.1-disk. The installation itself runs automatically.

To the current beta version for E-UAE Calo Nord wrote:

"Many users have already heard of AmigaSYS and some of you were missing the E-UAE-Version for Linux, MorphOS and AmigaOS4. Now there is a first and also last version for E-UAE. Because of the limited possibilities of E-UAE we will not work with it in future.

We have released a beta version of AmigaSYS 1.7.1 with little modifications for E-UAE. Under MorphOS the packet unfortunately does not work proper which is caused by E-UAE.

Under AmigaOS4 there is a bug when unarchiving the Startup-Sequence. After the installation this must be copied manually from the archive to the installed AmigaSYS directory. A packet created under AmigaOS4 will follow soon.

Under Linux AmigaSYS should work so far with the known limitations. If there are bugs after installing the archive the packet probably was extracted in a wrong way. This is not caused by AmigaSYS but by the unarchiver program or the Linux file system.

The current version has been successfully tested under AmigaOS4, Debian Linux PPC, SuSE 9.2 x86, Mandrake Linux 10.1 x86 and Mandrake Linux LE 2005 x86.

Because we will not develop further for E-UAE there is no support. But bug reports can be always sent to my e-mail address. If E-UAE should get remarkable progress some times later I probably will continue my work."

MUI: BetterString.mcc / HotkeyString.mcc under LGPL published
After having saved the source codes of the known MUI-Custom class BetterString.mcc and HotkeyString.mcc from the hard drive of the former author Allan Odgaard the complete source code has been published under the GNU Lesser Public License (LGPL) as Open Source and has been put together in a seperate project on Sourceforge.net.

Interested developers are encouraged to take contact to the current main authors (Jens Langner and Ilkka Lehtoranta) if you want to develop further BetterString.mcc and HotkeyString.mcc.

Search for the Best Websites of Germany
Everyone certainly knows about the problems with search engines. When you type in your search words you get a long list of hits, but most of them don't have a thing to do with what you're looking for. However there's an unusual searcher that's been established, one that targets the websites that you're really after. "Turn the page, don't Google it" is the new trick to find your way in the Internet maze. The "Web Address Book" is a reference work in book form.

CAD: Full version of "Cycas" released to Aminet
Cycas is a program for architectural drawing in two and three dimensions. Additional to the normal CAD function Cycas offers some special elements and techniques for architecture and construction drawing.

Perspectives, isometries and planar views of a building can be rendered as line graphics and can also be reworked.

3D data can be exported in different exchange formats to programs which can render graphics from the data. That allows a rapid and high quality simulation of buildings.

Further development of the Amiga version is put to halt currently, for that reason the latest full version is now available for free.

Amiga User List: GAUHPIL database reworked
The GAUHPIL (Geographical Amiga Users Home Page Internet List) is a MySQL based database created and moderated by Dietmar Knoll. It contains website addresses of Amiga users, that can be questioned by continent and country. Additionally, it features a flexible search function.

In the past few weeks, the PHP scripts have been completely reworked and new functions have been added. The former country search links have been replaced by "real" country lists and a few more flags and internal links have been added.

The moderation script now finally allows to add new links, that have been mailed to the moderator. Nevertheless, the preferred way should be that interested users type in their data themselves.

Currently, the GAUHPIL lists 730 users from 39 countries. The number of users for each country can be found on the page "All Countries". (snx)
