MorphZone (Forum) MorphOS: mldonkey 2.7.4
Christian Rosentreter has provided the MorphOS version 2.7.4 of the filesharing client mldonkey. Besides the present archive the last complete version 2.6.3 as a basis is necessary, the content of the archive must be copied by using "bzip2 -d" over it. Additionally under MorphOS 1.4.x yarandom mut be installed.

Stock exchange software: proBonds V2.30
Sven Dröge's stock exchange program proBonds (Screenshot) is now available as version 2.30. Among other things the compatibility with AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS was increased, although the latest prerelease-update of AmigaOS 4 makes its contribution to the improved ability.

Detailed information of the changes can be found in the changelog proBonds_Info included in the program archive

Overview of the most important new features:

Support of further languages, a test version of the English catalogue file is included; the language is automatically adapted to the system language at the program's start and cannot be changed manually in its current condition
Improved compatibility with MorphOS and AmigaOS 4
Small changes of the user interface
Redesign of the import manager

MorphUp 0.956

The MorphOS packet manager MorphUp is avaiable in version 0.956 now. The new features include more preferences and the option to open a detail group by dobble clicking the packet.

Please note that after the update and before the next launch of MorphUp (client or generator) the following two files must be deleted to init the new default settings: config/cl.cfg und config/gen.cfg.

TD MPlayer GUI 0.6

TDolphin`s GUI for the video player MPlayer is available as version 0.6 for download. Among many minor changes and improvements, the tooltypes VIDEOPAT and SUBTITLESPAT were added.

Minimig: Technical specifications of the Amiga-clons fixed
Dennis van Weeren, Developer of the FPGA-based Amiga 500-clons Minimig (amiga-news.de reported) , has now the technical specifications to tranfer his prototype on a board fixed.

A keyboard support, a on screen menu and if possible the support of all games which needs 1MB memory will be added if this board is finished.

Martin 'Mason' Merz (ANF) Toolbar icons: Amiga Image Storage System 2
Amiga Image Storage System (AISS) is a system for managing toolbar pictures under AmigaOS and comes with a big collection of default icons. The pictures are saved in two separate directories (standard images and further icons added by the user) which can be accessed via a common assign.

Jens Langner (ANF) Charset conversion: codesets.library 6.0
The codesets.library allows applications to use codeset/charset tables via a unique interface and to convert between different charsets, e.g. within an email client from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1.

Applications already using the codesets.library are among others the Instant Messenger 'Epistula' and the current "developer" versions of the known mailer software YAM.

The library (recently released under the LGPL) is available as version 6.0 for AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOSt. Next to the porting to AmigaOS 4 were numerous changes made in this version making it in some points incompatible with earlier versions. (cg) (Translation: wk)

Andreas Magerl (ANF) Car racing: update for Desert Racing released
There are three patches available for the racing game Racing for the full version and the demo version. While the patch files for the full version can only be requested via email because of copy protection you can download those for the demo version using the title link.

The demo version can be downloaded there, too, if needed (230 MB, reuired hard disk space 600 MB). To receive the patch for the full version your real name and the retailer's name and the invoice number are needed if the game's bought somewhere else than from APC&TCP. (snx) (Translation: wk)

MorphZone (Forum) MorphOS: MorphUp beta version 0.955
MorphUp is a packet manager for MorphOS written by Rupert Hausberger and it is now available in version 0.955. This update contains a new toolbar with exchangeable graphics sd well as some optimations and bug fixes.

MorphUp is a packet management system as you can find in the Linux world, too. You do not have to take care of the newest software versions by looking at every corresponding website - so for missing libraries or MUI-classes. For the daily CVS-builds of the MorphOS-workbench Ambient (amiga-news.de reported) Mario Kuban has released 120 filetypes for the most common file formats.

Please consider the installation notes in the readme file included in the archive.

Updated MorphOS for PowerUP Users
Press release The MorphOS development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of an updated MorphOS version for computers equipped with PowerUP accelerator cards. The included changes are as follows:

Vastly improved graphics hardware compatability: MorphOS now includes 68K drivers for popular graphics cards such as the Cybervision64, Cybervision 64/3D and the Picasso IV.
Problems on machines with more than 128MB of memory were fixed.
hal.com1 was updated in order to allow proper support of CV3D support.
The RegTool (registration application) was updated as well.
An experimental version of 4IDE support was added. (Please read the IDE splitter section in the "morphos.readme" text file.)
The update also includes new Hungarian locale settings.

The MorphOS Free Edition for PowerUP can be downloaded from powerup.morphos-team.net. We suggest to carefully read the instructions on the website as well as in the included "readme" text to make the installation process as effortless as possible.

Steffen Nitz (ANF) Strategy game: "Die kleine Gilde II" - image galery updated
The image galery of the realtime management simulation "Die kleine Gilde II" (eng= "The little Guild II") has been revised and many new images have been added. Additionally, in the section "Sonstige Gebäude" ("Other Buildungs") a screenshop of the warehouse can be found. Work on the warehouse feature have been completed, an update will not be released until spying on competitors is also possible.

http-handler by Chris Young provides a virtual drive "HTTP:", through which resources on the Internet can be accessed. Features of the program:

Allows access to web-hosted files via a virtual HTTP: device.
Supports Open(), Read(), Close() and Seek().
Implements HTTP redirects (301,302) as soft-links - even works with redirects that point to local files.
Optionally supports gzip and deflate content-encoding for faster download times, if z.library is installed.
Will work through a (non-authenticating) proxy server.
Can connect to HTTP services running on ports other than the default.

Tristar - AMI_TRS (ANF) Tristar: The Lotus Turbo Musik Disk with Amiga remixes
Tristar has undertaken a second release of the Remixes series for all old Amiga fans. This one deals with the game "Lotus Turbo" and contains remixes of all three themes of the Lotus Trilogy.

The members of Tristar have taken the criticism on the last Musik Disk to heart and stored the three songs in an extra folder - that way, users of other operating systems can also play back the melodies now.

Cranu is a graphical user interface, with whose help, LhA, LZX, Zip, tgz or tar.bz2 archives can be created very easily (screenshot). Using so-called profiles, support for other archive formats can be supplemented.

Jörg Strohmayer has released a special version of the file system SFS, which also supports files larger than two and four gigabytes, respectively. "SFS2" is not compatible with the forerunner SFS, but both versions can be used concurrently. The author specifically points out the beta character of the software.

Thomas Meigel has released an update of his program amiShuffle. New in version 0.7.0 is the possibility to be able to adjust the volume individually for every title saved on the iPod Shuffle. Other changes can be gathered from the accompanying Readme file.

The program amiShuffle makes it possible to use the iPod Shuffle on the Amiga, like every other USB flash-stick with integrated MP3 player. After copying the MP3 files onto the iPod, you must merely start amiShuffle, to fill the database (iTunesSD) with the appropriate information.

Minimig: Report on the FPGA-Amiga presentation in Maarssen
Today, in the club meeting of the Commodore Gebruikers Groep in Dutch Maarssen, the FPGA-based Amiga replica 'Minimig' was publicly introduced by its developer, Dennis van Weeren (reported by amiga-news.de).

Volker Mohr has visited the event and composed a short report for amiga-news.de. You can find his photos at the end of this article. In addition, he writes:

"On February 18, the 'Commodore Gebruikers Groep' (CGG) invited to one of their regular meetings in Maarssen near Utrecht again. In the homely setting, this time there were three interesting news at once to gaze at. Two of them were Jiffy DOS for the VC 20 - a highly compatible fast-loader with extended operating system - as well as the 1541-III by Jan Derogee.

The latter is a PIC microcontroller, which uses an MMC/SD as drive via the IEC bus - and can thus be used on the C 64, VC 20 and even the C64-DTV. Thereby, the circuit behaves like a 1541 drive, hence was the name 1541-III chosen. On the FAT-16-formatted MMC/SD card, disk images in the well-known D64 format are located, which are recognized as 5.25" disks.

However, the actual sensation of the day is the Minimig. Club member Dennis reproduced a complete Amiga 500 with OCS in FPGA technology. As can be recognized in the pictures, the prototype, except for puniest errors, already behaves like a real Amiga.

Games were usable with mouse and joystick, a keyboard was yet missing. The laptop on the fringes served merely as floppy substitute, to be able to run disk images on the Minimig. Jens Schönfeld from individual Computers from Aachen was enthused as well and talking shop with Dennis for a long time.

In any case, it is certain that the Amiga clone based on FPGA, mentioned for the first time in December of last year in the forum of Amiga.org, is by no means a matter of hoax, but an amazing marvel of technology.

So let's hope that this device can arouse interest in the industry, because as compact games console like the C64-DTV, it could bring the name Amiga back into the awareness of the public again."

The websites of AmiDevCpp and AROS for Amiga OS can be accessed over amidevcpp.funpic.de as well as over www.commodoreweb.com/~amidev/ and amidevcpp.amiga-world.de/.

On the main page there is also a preinstalled "AROS Max" enviroment for Windows. The packet contains of Qemu as well as preinstalled harddrive and ISO-images and is mainly meant as test enviroment for AROS programs which were developed with AmiDevCpp. But it may be also interesting for people who want to experiment with AROS or simply want to play DOOM again.

For the data transfer with the Windows site the UltraISO is very useful.

Amigan Software has introduced the newest development "AmiArcadia" which is the first Emerson Arcadia 2001 emulator for the Amiga. It is an extended public Amiga port of Emulator 2001.

AmiArcadia emulates the consoles family Emerson Arcadia 2001 to which belong the following models: Bandai, Emerson, Grandstand, Hanimex, Intervision, Leisure-Vision, Leonardo, MPT-03, Ormatu, Palladium, Poppy, Robdajet, Rowtron, Tele-Fever, Tempest, Tryom and Tunix.

AmiArcadia offers the following features: ReAction GUI, Loading and Saving snapshots, windows and full screen modus, CPU Tracing, Trainer, Drag'n'Drop support, iconifying, Graphic scaling, automatic loading of configurations, Autofire, Warp-modus and Raser based emulation.

According to the developers the emulator supports all games. A BIOS-Image is not required.

A new snapshot of the Amiga Research Operating System (AROS) for x86-systems is available for download under the title link. It is dated on February 7th and unlike the so called 'Nightly Builds' it was shortly tested from different developers until its official release today.

Power.org (Forum) Genesi: Development programs for High Density Blade Server and OSW
On PPCZone.org Genesi has started development programmes for the announced products High Density Blade Server (HDB) and Open Server Workstation (OSW).

OSW is supposed to carry two 970MP PowerPC-processors by IBM (altogether four processor cores) and will be available in June 2006.

Whereas the HDB is to be equipped with two PowerPC-G4-processors by Freescale and a Tsi109-Northbridge by Tundra.

Both development programmes have been opened, own project ideas can be registered. Handling of new applications for the already active Efika-programme is supposed to be continued in the first week of March. (snx) (Translation: iw)

Mark Olsen adapted FuhQuake for MorphOS. This is a Win32/Linux-Quakeworld-Client, which among other things also brings about some visual effects (screenshots).

Pegasos.org (Webseite) MorphOS: PowerSDL 11.6
Ilkka Lehtoranta published version 11.6 of PowerSDL, which is the Simple Direct Media Layer for MorphOS. A new part of the package is the powersdl_sound.library 1.0, in additon the powersdl_net.library on version 7.4 has been updated.

With the update of the powersdl.library to version 11.6 especially the remaining keyboard problems with DosBox are corrected, as well as the pixel32 related problems.

The development package cc65, which contains among others a macro-assembler as well as a crosscompiler for systems with 6502-processors, is now also available for AmigaOS 4. Originally the compiler has been adapted for Atari-8-bit-systems.

Afa: AROS for AmigaOS 3.92.1
A new update is availlable for AfA(AROS for AmigaOS). Beside improving the Fasticons-Function and the picture.datatype the new AROS-Version of Mulitview is now included.

Details of the Changes:

Because of Fasticons programs like Amistart or the oscilloscope of the Eagle-Player, which need an exclusive pin, now work due to sufficient free pins.
Programs like Thumb, that were not supporting the picture.datatype, should work now - if any more problems should occur feedback is resquested.
In directory c: multiview_afa is now included; this might be lacking of i.e. a fullscreen mode or saving the standard prefenrences, but using the AROS-picture.datatype the images can be enlarged and adjusted to windowsize.

With Niktarix Nick Niktaris created another Linux live CD for Pegasos (ODW) (Screenshots).

Components from Knoppix, Kanotix and Debian Sarge were used here; contained are in addition to Kernel 2.6.11 among other things KDE 3.3.2, UnionFS, Mozilla/Firefox, Open Office and GIMP.

UnionFS, which takes some time while booting, makes it possible to work like you have booted from the hard disk instead of from a CD - in this way it is possible for instance to install or remove .deb files.

Marco 'Blackbird' Möring has linked to the header a "Pre-68k-fix-Version" of the GFXprogram PerfectPaint released, which makes the running on AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS possible. PerfectPaint was writen from Georges Halvadjian in BlitzBasic.

AmigaOS 4: archiver frontend Cranu 0.2
Cranu is virtually the counterpart to Unarc: a graphical user interface to easily create LhA, LZX, Zip, tgz or tar.bz2 archives (screenshot). Using so called "profiles" Cranu can be extended by the user to support further archive formats.

MorphOS: Daily CVS builds of Ambient
Experienced MorphOS users who would like to give the latest Ambient CVS compiles a try, can now find daily builds at the easier to remember URLs ambient.pegasos.org or ambient-desktop.org, ambient-desktop.net and ambient-desktop.com.

Required are MorphOS 1.4.5 and MUI 4 alpha. Please also note the following warnings:

Warning: No documentation. Daily builds do not include documentation
No support: Due to the nature of daily builds, no support can be provided
No Installer: You must be capable of moving files to their proper locations yourself before attempting to use a daily build
Changelog: Go over the changes carefully before downloading and installing a new build
Dynamic Functionality: Function availability is dependent upon build development, and any given function or group of functions may be disabled in a daily build
Use backups: It is highly suggested that regular backups are performed when using Daily builds

If you feel that anything from the list above is overly complicated, too difficult, or more than you can handle, please consider limiting yourself to the latest officially released version of Ambient. (snx)

11.Feb.2006 MorphOS: Interest in DVB-S playback software? (Update)
At the title link, MorphZone published information by Ralph Schmidt about a MorphOS program for DVB-S playback (support for DVB-T and DVB-C could be added by some further work as well). It's been used for prototyping the technology and thus not fully polished yet to be useful for sale.

Therefore there is the question if there is a big enough interest for such a program to justify polishing it to sell it. A few unsharp cam pictures of it with a down-scaled window are available at MorphOS-News.de. A poll for the interest in this software will be added at MorphZone as soon as some technical difficulties will be solved.

The first public version of the modular instant messenger Epistula is available under the title link, together with a preliminary plugin development kit. As no plugins were released so far, Epistula is for now only inteesting for developers who want to write their own protocol plugins. The first plugin for the MSN protocol will be available as soon as a required library will have been public (probably at the end of the week).

Elbox Computer (ANF) Elbox: IDE Trade-Up Program
Elbox Computer are offering a "Trade-Up" program for IDE controllers to their EU customers. The program requires a credit card and provides a 30 Euro mail-in rebate for their FastATA controllers in case the customer trades-in his old 4-way IDE interface or Zorro II IDE adapter.

The offer is valid for the purchase of a FastATA 4000 MK-III, FastATA 1200 MK-III or FastATA ZIV. According to Elbox, their FastATA controllers - unlike the aforementioned solutions - do also support PIO-3, PIO-4 and PIO-5 modes. (snx)

No longer Apple but IBM is operating the fastest PPC: The completely renewed JS21 blades are using two 970MP at a time with a little extent- as dual cpu with 2,5 GHz or with a deactivated second core but 2,7 GHz then.
