Swedish print-magazine: Amiga Forum 2
Since July there is a swedish Amiga print-magazine again - for the first time since seven years. Now the second issue of "Amiga Forum" is available, covering MorphOS and the AmigaOne 500 among other topics. As before, the magazine consists of 28 A5 pages (eight of them in colour) and costs 39 SEK (almost 5 Euro). (snx)

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.73 (beta version)
X-bEnCH is an Amiga game launcher with 128 colors on screen (even on a simple A500). This frontend autoscans the harddisk to find WHDLoad games or .exe files and and organizes them into launching listings. X-bEnCh also has an integrated CLI fully compatible with the Workbench CLI feature.
Version 0.73 is a bugfix release:
- Fixed the display speed problem on little cpu (68000/68010) in the menu
- Fixed the display speed problems on high end cpu (68040/68060) in the menu and the launcher
- Fixed a bad multitasking management when launching an .exe file

AROS: Distribution AspireOS 1.95
Nikolaos Tomatsidis released a new version of his AROS distribution AspireOS. It is made for the Acer netbook Aspire One, but does also fully support the Toshiba notebook Satellite Pro A200; also on other hardware the distribution should run, but this is untested.
Changes include a Wifi scanning tool, the editor Annotate, an AmigaOS 3.1 theme, new wallpapers, an optimisation of the boing icon bar and a bugfix for downloading Youtube videos. This time there is no update option for existing systems available, though, instead a fresh installation of version 1.95 is recommended. (snx)

Multi-purpose tool: Jack 3.2.5
Jack is a multi-purpose utility for all Amiga systems. Besides basic file operations Jack features image editing, saving screenshots, a music player, AppStore functions, weather forecast, currency conversion and a diary with connection to the Google diary.
Changes in version 3.2.5:
- AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5's introduction of asynchronously loading the TCP/IP at Workbench startup exposed a new bug in Jack. The DELAY tooltype was previously being ignored, this has now been fixed. If you still see an error message if starting Jack this way simply increase the value of the DELAY tooltype. Value is no. of seconds
- Python ITC Extractor has been updated to version 0.3.2 which adds support for Apple's use of ARGB images in album cover artwork. Thanks to Simon Kennedy
- Moved php scripts to another server, older versions of Jack will continue to run for a limited time only

Amiga Inc.: Bill McEwen's name spotted at BlackBerry live demo
After the official Amiga Inc. press release on availability of classic Amiga games for the BlackBerry tablet PlayBook and the upcoming smartphone BlackBerry 10 (amiga-news.de reported), a video of this cell phone's live presentation has been discovered which supports the claim of a business relationship.
At the title link, Bill McEwen's name has been spotted as a contact person on the phone. Although the corresponding photo does not depict the longtime CEO - allegedly it is the junior -, the entry is titled "Amiga". At minute 4:41 a virtual customer meeting can be seen and at minute 6:16 there are OSNews articles about Amiga from June/July. (snx)

Frode Solheim's FS-UAE (Screenshot) for Windows, Mac OS X 10.5+ (i386, PPC) and Linux (i386, AMD64) is based on WinUAE and completely accessible by joypad.

MorphOS: Sudominator 1.1 and U1Synth 1.2
Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski has updated two of his programs - the Sudoku solver Sudominator and the software synthesizer U1Synth. Both can be also installed by Grunch now.
Sudominator had some problem with new MUI 4 transparency effect for disabled gadgets. This effect has been unnecessarily applied to the sudoku field when live solver was running, so the whole thing was unreadable. U1Synth has got an octave switch, a first small step towards changing it from a toy to a simple, yet usable synthesizer. (snx)

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.72 (beta version)
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interface with 128 colours which is meant for starting WHDLoad-games (.slave, .exe).
In version 0.72 a bug was fixed. Additionally now by pressing the DELETE-key it is possible to prevent X-bEnCH to be loaded and instead to start the Workbench.

XRoar ported by Ventzislav Tzvetkov emulates the 8-Bit-systems Dragon and Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer. A minimal firmware is included in the archive but for the real compatibility the ROM-image of the emulated computers is required.

MorphOS: Audio-converter Zormanita 1.1
Zormanita is another example how the Reggae-library can be used. The source code is available under a BSD-licence. Currently Zormanita can convert AIFF-, 8SVX-, 16SV-, WAVE- and MP3-files to the formats AIFF, WAVE or RAW. Altivec is supported.
Version 1.1 also includes an update for Reggae which now supports the 24- and 32-Bit modes of AIFF, WAVE, and RAW. Additionally default file name extension based on selected codec was added.

Hollywood-Plugins for Android available
Since July the development environment Hollywood also supports Google's Handheld operating system Android. Meanwhile most of the Hollywood-Plugins also are available under Android.
The plugins are available in two different versions: The so called "armeabi"-Build works with floating-point numbers in a software library similar to AmigaOS' math*-libraries. The "armeabi-v7a"-versions use the faster floating-point hardware of modern processors which all newer Android-devices contain - in case of doubt have a look at the manual of the device if it supports hardware floating-point calculations.
The plugins have to be copied to the directory "Hollywood/_Plugins" on the SD-card of the Android-device. You can get more information in the Android Release Notes.

Event: Saku 2012 in Oulu (Finland)
Official press release:
OULU, FINLAND - September 22nd, 2012 - Finnish Amiga Users Group holds its 5th Saku event in Oulu, Finland on Saturday, September 29th. The event is free for anyone interested in the wide range of current Amiga compatible systems. Admittance is free of charge and refreshments will be available. Saku 2012 will start at 13:00 on September 29th at Oulun Tetra ground floor conference room at Mäkelininkatu 31.
There will be several classic and new generation Amiga compatible systems available for testing. Classic AmigaOS is running on several A1200 models and on an A4000/060 with three (you read it right, 3!) Picasso IV graphic cards. A SAM440ep system will be running the new AmigaOS 4, and the latest MorphOS 3 will be demonstrated both on a G4 Mac mini and a G4 Powerbook. AROS is running on a PC, and Minimig will also be available for testing.
Gaming is available on several classic Amiga systems. Linked games are played via two A1200/030 computers. The legendary A500 is also involved. A1200 expansions like the BlizzardPPC, BVision and Indivision AGA MK2 are among the hardware displayed, not forgetting the up to 16GB CF drives.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Commodore 64 we have a fully packed C64 with an LCD display and a keyboard, double SID chips, the MSSIAH MIDI expansion and a Turbo Chameleon multipurpose expansion cartridge. There will also be gaming competitions arranged on the C64.
Visitors can take part in several game competitions and a Hello World programming competition. Latest Amiga magazines are available for reading and visitors can also bring their used items for sale. Finnish Amiga retailer Gentle Eye will be present, and Effi ry is sponsoring the refreshments and also selling their support products. The user group has their promotional T-shirts for sale as well.

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.7 (beta version)
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interace with 128 colours which replaces the Workbench for starting WHDLoad-games (.slave, .exe).
According to the developer the programm works with all Amigas (OCS, AGA) equipped with 68000 to 68060 processor and requires few virtual memory.
Changes:
- Start faster than with the previous release
- Added a roto-starfield effect in the background of the main menu
- Now autoscan your keymap type (QWERTY, QWERTZ or AZERTY) and correctly assign the keys to the FastJump feature
- You can now disable the unused listing with the setup
- Added a rainbow effect to the title name of the displayed list in the launcher
- Launcher reactivity optimisation
- CLI fixed in many cases but maybe still buggy in some cases...
- Now the name of a listing can be up to 8 character long (5 previously)
- Now in the setup save the name of the listings if you change it either if you don't have updated any list
- Fixed many ugly visual bugs when opening/closing the display
- Fixed a redisplay bug in the Menuscreen and the launcher screen

AmigaOS 4: Tetris clone Nelipala 0.9
Nelipala is a SDL-based Tetris clone for AmigaOS 4 and Windows. The game was tested by the developer on a Sam440. Full screen and sound effects are still not supported in version 0.9.

AmigaOS 4: AmiSystemRestore Release 1 beta version 4
Chris Handley's AmiSystemRestore offers a Windows-like system restore for AmigaOS 4.
Changes:
- Got rid of some common but mostly-harmless issues that were being reported in the debug log. Many thanks to those who reported them to me
- AISS is no-longer required
- The installer now handles problems better
- The main window now resizes when you change the "Show size of restore point" preference
- Improved the info reported in the debug log

Amiga Inc.: Amiga classics for the Blackberry Playbook tablet
A few years ago, Amiga Inc. used to sell classic Amiga games for Windows by bundling them with a modified WinUAE build. A similar approach is now apparently used with an offering available through the Blackberry's official app store for the Playbook tablet: In addition to various titles from Team 17 the publisher "Amiga, Inc." is also offering the Turrican series aswell as Xenon and Xenon 2. AmigaOS 4: RadeonHD driver 0.53
Under the title link registered customers can download for free version 0.53 of the RadeonHD driver which is supported by A-EON Technology. AmigaOS 4.1 (update 5) is required.
Changes:
- VRAM buffer management is now fully implemented. The driver can now handle 3D drivers allocating more buffers than fits in VRAM
- Intelligent shadow buffering of VRAM buffers added - reducing the need to copy the buffer back out of VRAM should it be paged out again without being modified
- The RadeonHD_RM.resource is now enabled

AROS: New DevPak for AmiDevCpp
The AROS-DevPak for the integrated development environment AmiDevCpp was updated. The AROS versions AROS-i386, AROS-x86_64 and AROS-ppc are supported.
A DevPak includes all parts of a Software Development Kits (SDK) which are required to create executable programs for a platform. This means they are archives which consist of Includes and Linker-libraries. Those DevPaks are installed by a package manager included in AmiDevCpp. An automatic deinstallation is possible as well.

MorphOS-user donates 2000 Euro for Radeon-driver
In order to accelerate the development of the 3D-driver for the R300-chipset which is used in several Powerbook models (as well as Radeon 9500/9700 graphic boards) the MorphOS-user William "Fraggle" Morris has made a donation of 2000 Euro to the developer Mark "bigfoot" Olsen. This is supposed to enable an earlier completion of the driver.

MorphOS: Audio-converter Zormanita
Zormanita is another example for an application of the Reggae-library. The source code of the program is available as BSD-licence.
Currently Zormanita can convert AIFF-, 8SVX-, 16SV-, WAVE- and MP3-files into AIFF, WAVE or RAW. Each audio codec which is added to the system is automatically supported by Zormanita. The program has a graphical user-interface and supports Altivec.

Carl Sassenrath on the future of REBOL
In a blog entry Carl Sassenrath - who also is the author of "Exec" - has announced that he will probably finish the development of his programming language REBOL.
Originally the language has been a commercial product. But the "old model of how proprietary software products make money has been turned inside-out." He also said that "I also need to tell you that I don't have much time to help out with whatever the REBOL future may be. I can help a little from time to time, but generally I'm very busy these days."
Sassenrath has invited all users to post comments on how the future of REBOL is supposed to look like.

Jump and Run: Sqrxz for OCS-Amigas available as download
The recently released port of Sqrxz for OCS Amigas is now available as free download in the form of an ADF image. The game requires at least Kickstart 1.2 as well one megabyte of memory, of which at least 512 KB should be ChipRAM. A version of the game which can be installed to a harddrive has already been announced.

AmigaOS 4: Atari-Emulator Hatari 1.6.2
For the Atari-ST/STE/Falcon-emulator Hatari a new update has been published. Additional to the new version 1.6.2 older versions are available as well which might be less accurate but faster. But on an Micro-A1 games run without breaks (video).

Scriba is a simple text processing softare which is still in development written by Carsten Siegner. With version 0.6.0 all limitations of importing OpenDocument text files of the previous version (amiga-news.de reported on it) were lifted. Additionally the TurboPrint print module was reworked.

AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS: AmiDARK-Engine 0.6
The AmiDARK-Engine written by Frédéric Cordier is a "Game Development Kit" inspired by DarkGDK. It is a collection of macros and functions for C-programmer which aims to simplify developing games. The changes of the (limited in time) demo version 0.6 are listed under the title link. Donators will get a full version.

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.6 (beta)
X-bEnCh is an Amiga game launcher & more. In a 128 colors display (ECS compatible), this frontend can autoscan your hard-drive to find your WHDLoad games or your .exe files and organize them in launching listings. X-bEnCh also has an integrated CLI fully compatible with the Workbench CLI feature.
Changes:
- A New Amigaguide full doc.
- Fixed some files check on startup that were wrongs.
- Now pressing the "Del" Key when startup will cancel the X-bEnCh loading.
- Now display the release number under the X-bEnCh startup logo.
- Now working with a temp dir to leave the Ram free.
- New scroll text "Credits screen".
- Launcher Reactivity optimisations and lighter code.
- FastJump added. Now simply use your keyboard's key to jump where you want.
- MegaRam option Added. Can save from 34kb up to 136 kb of ram.
- Now return where you was before, after leaving a game.
- Now before loading a .slave/.exe, check if exist a .xbs script and use it if exist.
- Now autoscan the tool types of WhdLoad. If none found, use the default tooltypes you've set in the setup screen.
- Now display the number of files in the listing, right to the listing name in the launcher.
- Now in the launcher, a short push on the 2nd joy button will switch between your listings and a long push will escape to the main menu.
- Now the game name in the loading screen is truncated and centered.
- Big fail fixed in the cLi.
- Added the "help" command to the cLi to list all the extra X-bEnCh cLi commands availables.
- Added the "resetxset" command to the cLi. Really useful to clean up a buggy install of X-bEnCh.
- Now the subdirectorys level scan is unlimited.
- Now the listings are 3 time lighters than with the previous release.
- Now listings are of real unlimited size.
- Now ending a path with a "/" in the setup will work as same as without.
- Now display the number of files added to a listing when updating in the setup.
- No more create a bugged list when there's nothing to add to the list in the choosed path.
- Xsetup executable is 25% lighter.
- Fixed a small palette bug when leaving the setup.
- Sometime the setup exit on a black screen.. Fixed.
- Preload switch added as a whdload global option.
- Display switch added as a whdload global option (Switch PAL/NTSC).
- Cache switch added as a whdload global option.
- MMU switch added as a whdload global option.
- AutoVec switch added as a whdload global option.
- Music switch added as a Launchers global option (Switch On/Off).
- MegaRam switch added as a Launcher global option.

AmiKit is a complete distribution for UAE-users and now is available as version 1.6.2. The update which is automatically installed if there is a previous version includes bug fixed audio file types for Magellan II as well as updated versions of 20 programms and components, e.g. AmIRC, NetSurf and Scalos.
