Crowdfunding: New, Amiga compatible joypad 'Protopad'
Protovision - a group of develolpers and graphic artists for developeing games for the C64 - is going to pre-finance new joypads which will be developed explicitly for the C64. The pads have eight buttons, one button emulating 'up'. The pad is described as "also compatible with Atari and Amiga". But it is not clear how many of the seven buttons the Amiga can control.
The crowdfunding campaign was started on the Protovision website and does not run on one of the well-known donation portals. The money you give always is described as donations but it is promised to pay back the money if until January 2025 no joypad will have been delivered. You can donate via Paypal or bank transfer. If you donate 50 Euro or more you will get a 'Protopad' as soosn as the production was started.

Jump'n Run: Boxed Edition of Sqrxz 4 released
Press release: APC&TCP is proud to announce that after Trap Runner and Fred's Journey, Sqrxz 4 is now also available as a boxed edition. As usual with Retroguru, the game was published in a DVD case with floppy disk, booklet and A3 poster. ATTENTION! Be warned! This game requires very good and very quick reflexes. Adding a HDMI port using a Raspberry Pi: Amiga-Digital-Video
The goal of the Github project Amiga-Digital-Video is to add a HDMI port to an Amiga 500, 1000 or 2000 or to a CDTV. A small adapter board is put under the Denise chip. With the help of a ribbon cable, the Raspberry Pi can extract the RGB signals of the Amigas and convert them into a digital video signal using the RGBtoHDMI software.
The software runs directly on the Pi - without requiring an operating system. According to the developer the "HDMI picture has a very low latency (a few milliseconds at most)". Therefore this solution can be also used for games. By watching some videos (1, 2) you can get an idea of the qualitiy.

Commodore's DSP software running on a prototype of an A3000+
After Commodore's software support for the AA3000/A3000+, which was never placed on market, showed up, fans tried to make it running on a replica of the AA3000. Obviously they succeeded now: the DSP response to commands of the controlling software.

Amigakit: RAM-/Flash-ROM expansion for A1200
A new expansion for the A1200 developed by AmigaKit does not only provide 8 MB Fast-RAM (configurable via jumper or "Early Boot Menu" as 4, 5.5 or 8 MB) but additional to FPU socket and clockport also 4 MB FlashRAM which is writeable using the included configuration tool. How the memory is mounted while booting the computer, the website of AmigaKit does not exactly explain: On one hand they are taking about " Kickstart modules or even full Kickstart images" but on the other hand also about software "instantly available on power on". Additionally the card also emulates the non-volatile Flash memory of the CD32, in which games can save e.g. highscores and scores.

Platform game: Looty v2
'Looty' (video) is a single screen platform game inspired by an old Spectrum game. Originally the game was released in the mid-90s as Freeware and now was updated providing some bug fixes and optional cursor control. The background music can be turned off. The developer is looking for a graphic artist for his game.

Action adventure: Port of Heart of Darkness (1998)
Heart of Darkness, released in the late 1990s, is inspired by Chahi's classic Another World but was delivered on CD and therefore offered more animations. Now Artur "Arti" Jarosik has ported the game to AmigaOS. Additionasl to the original files of the game an upgraded Amiga are required - a 68060 or Apollo processor is recommended.

Game collection of Luca Carminati for free download
On itch.io, Luca Carminati has released some arcade games for free download which he developed in the mid-1990s for the Amiga. In his Amiga Games Pack (video) the Shareware games Kangy and HyperViper as well as the 'Asteroids' clone 'Croins', the Pang game 'Marietto' and the ski racing game 'Slalom Speciale' are included.

A-EON Technology has released an update of its text editor MultiEdit which is only available via the Updater tool. For purchasers of the version released in 2016 or of the commercial Enhancer software, MultiEdit 1.13 is available for free.

CS-Lab: Prototypes of accelerator boards Warp 3060/4060 and of CDTV-60
On his "unofficial Warp 3060/4060 page", Greg Donner reports about news of CS-Lab. According to him, now prototypes of the accelerator boards Warp 3060/4060 and CDTV-60 have been finished. Both boards have socketed 68060 CPUs.

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.83
RedPill developed by Carlos Peris is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - see our little review of two games. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires a total of 1,5 MB RAM.
Changes in version 0.83:
- Compiler changed from Amiblitz 2.44 to Amiblitz 3.8. This has some implications:
- Now lower limit to play games is a Motorola 68000 instead of a 68020.
- There are two editors, one generic and one for 020+.
- When exporting a game you have to select if it is generic or for 020+.
- Performance seems slightly better.
- To avoid compilation issues, some more memory is used by the game player.

MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 1.7
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 1.7 of his web browser Wayfarer. Additional to bug fixes - e.g. tar.gz archives were decompressed on the fly while downloading them, some new features like online version check have been added.
MorphOS 3.14 as well as 1 GB RAM are required, a processor with at least 1,5 GHz is recommended. For giving feedback please use the corresponding discussion on morphzone.

The Mutation Gold Compilation, released in 1998, is a CD32-compatible CD containing Mutation's games Doodlebug, Cyberpunks, Tin Toy, Tommy Gun and Castle Kingdoms. The first two games were adapted to the CD32 joypad. All the games are also available in the new edition but "fixed, updated and remastered by the original developers" and can be purchased now.
Additionally on its website Mutation Software has announced a second part for the top down shooter Cyberpunks.

Arcade puzzle: ZGR3D available as 'Boxed Edition'
In ZG3D developed by Project R3D (video) the player has to remove falling Tetris blocks to make space for more blocks permanently falling from the top of the screen. The game runs on any Amiga equipped with at least Kickstart 1.1.
Meanwhile the game, which was released in April for free, can be purchased in a 'Boxed Edition': Two shops offers worldwide and only for Polish customers a DVD box with CD, disk and poster.

MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 1.6
Today version 1.6 of Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek's web browser Wayfarer has been released. Additional to some bug fixes, among others a fully WSIWYG printing system as well as spell checking support and undo/redo support were added, history of version 1.6.
MorphOS 3.14 and 1 GB RAM are required. A processor with at least 1,5 GHz is recommended. For giving feedback please use the corresponding discussion on morphzone.

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.82
RedPill developed by Carlos Peris is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - see our little review of two games. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires 1 MB Fast RAM.
Changes since version 0.8:
- In settings screen now you can select if you want to use a custom screen or the workbench for file requesters.
- Added action Repeat Every to execute actions every certain time.
- In Animation screen the animation number can be selected using an input field.
- In Animation screen you can modify the frame offset using the cursor keys.
- In Objects screen, Display Offset X and Y can be set using an input field.
- Bigger limit for sprite size when using the Auto Slice option.
- Extra checks and optimization for Auto Slice option.
- In Screen menu, a color other than 0 can be overwritten, from 0(background) to 127.
- BG Color and BG Rainbow action triggers are now named Overwrite Color and Overwrite Gradient.
- Physics: Speed on col behavior reviewed.
- Performance: Improved performance of math routines.
- FIX: CD32 play CD routines fixed to allow more than one track being played.
- FIX: After moving to another level sometimes there was a glitch in the scroll.
- FIX: When re-adding objects in the level, sometimes they were not added.
- FIX: Screen width was not reset when loading a new game.

Puzzle game: AmiBrixx 2.1 for all Amiga systems
Two weeks ago we reported about version 2.0 of Jörg 'Evil' Renkert's puzzle game AmiBrixx. In this game you try to "elminate groups of stones of the same color. Thereby the other stones will fall down and form new groups. The game ends, when no more groups can be eliminated."
Yesterday the author released version 2.1 providing some minor bug fixes: In the Amiga 68k version now the full screen is used on lower screen solutions (such as HighRes or HighRes Interlaced) which we can confirm by our tests. In the Windows version the game screen moved other windows to top/back sometimes. This was fixed.
The author would be grateful for any feedback including ideas and suggestions for improvement.

Competition Pro clone featuring Arcade parts: ArcadeR (Update)
The ArcadeR's design is heavily inspired by the classic 'Competition' joysticks, but inside the newcomer is making use of actual Arcade components - a noname clone of a Sanwa joystick mechanism, to be precise. The sticks are available in different colours and provide optional autofire as well as a configurable 2nd fire button.
Two small switches at the front of the case are used for (de)activating autofire and selecting if the right fire button should act as button 2 or button 3. The autofire frequency can be adjusted using a potentiometer, but that potentiometer can only be accessed after opening the case. The second fire button is not electrically compatible across different systems, so the customer needs to specify the target system when purchasing a stick. This setting can be switched between "Atari/Amiga" and "C64" later on using a solder bridge.

Despite the UK top level domain of the official website, RetroRadionics is actually based in China. If the joysticks are in stock, users keep reporting shipping times as short as two weeks, but German users keep reporting Problems with DHL (German: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) when their packages are getting relabeled by DHL after they arrive in Germany. The only European distributor of the ArcadeR known to us at the time of writing is the British dealer ZX Renew.

AmigaOS 4: Games collection for AmiCygnix 1.6
Edgar Schwan has updated his games collection for his X11 environment AmiCygnix. 24 games are included, most of them board- or cardgames but also a shoot'em up and a interactive fractal zoomer.
New in version 1.6:
- New game "Pioneers", a clone of "Settlers of Catan".
- Neue versions:
- Ace of Penguins 1.4 instead of version 1.2. The card game "Spider" has been added and the card game "Solitaire" offers new possibilities. The GUI tool for starting the individual games has been revised and optimized for standalone start.
- XEmeraldia 0.4.3 instead of version 0.4.1. The graphics have been optimized.
- XGalaga 2.1.1.0 instead of version 2.0.34. The playing field is now bigger and a variation called "Hyperspace" is now included.
- The xMahjongg GUI tool has been revised and optimized for standalone start.

Free graphic set for game developer: "NEONworld"
One of the submissions to the Amiga Art Contest 2020 was a graphic set for an imaginary game called "NEONworld". On his Patreon website, the graphics artist Kevin Saunders has provided the set as zip archive. It can be used in free game projects without any limitations. Saunders only wants to be listed in the credits.
The graphics are meant for screen solutions of 320x256, use 16 colours and were drawn on the Amiga using Brilliance. The UFO was rendered with Lightwave. An example level for the game concept intended by Saunders is included as well.

Early video preview: Jump'n Run 'Duckstroma'
In Erik 'earok' Hogan's jump'n run 'Duckstroma' the player controls a duck which can use its eggs for jumping in higher levels. The game already has been released for MSX and ZX Spectrum using the flip-screen feature.
Now a video of the Amiga prototype was published showing smoothly scrolling levels. The port for the Amiga is written with Hogan's Game Construction Kit Scorpion Engine.

3D-Shooter: Another early Tech-Demo from 'Blask'
'Blask' (video) is a 3D-Shooter written in AMOS which is still in the very early stage of development and is supposd to be run on an Amiga 500. In a discussion on ppa.pl (Polish) the developer has talked about the latest progress of the game. He has already released two pre-versions of the game under the former name "Alien Enemy: Dangerous".

Little discourse on render-library
In our report about the game AmiBrixx we have attended the auhor Jörn Renkert on the fact that under usually an OS3 port of a Hollywood application requires a graphics card and therefore pushing a port for AGA Amigas.
Unfortunately we did not succeed in running the game on an Amiga1200 equipped with Blizzard 1230 and 128 MB FastRAM. All required libraries have been installed as mentioned by the author. Before this test, on the Amiga of our editor version 40.8 of the render.library was installed but disabled. Instead of it, version 30.0 was active. After even the last edited version released by the author crahed we did remember the previously disabled version 40.8 render.library.
After resetting the system to version 30.0, the game started without problems. We then found two diiferent versions of the library on Aminet:
- Version 40.8, released in 2005, and
- version 32.0, released this year.
Contrary to the information given there in the readmes, version 40.8 was written by Timm S. Mueller (e.g. graphics card picture viewer Mysticview), version 32.0 by Henryk Richter (e.g. author of the music player Eagleplayer). Getting more information about the different versions, we asked the authors for a statement. Kindly enough both oh them replied. Hendryk Richter has summarized it:
"Version 32 of the render.library are virtually identical to 30.0/31.0. After consultation with Timm, the version bump from 31 to 32 was done to merge the different versions of the v30 branch available on Aminet. Only a build for 68060 without FPU was added since the last upload. I do not know any program (68k) which requires a version >30 of the render.library.
The development branch V40 of the render.library was Timm's rewrite in C of the assembler version for providing the option of porting it to PPC platforms. As mentioned in the readme, this re-implementation the much slower on 68k Amigas with processor <68040. It is recommended to use V30-V32 with 68k."
After the installation of version 32.0, the game also worked fine. Therefore we do not only recommend version 32.0 for 68k Amigas - considering the crashes we must advise against this version 40.8.
On request of amigas-news.de the author Timm S. Mueller explained that currently he is not going to deal with it again.
