News from Paul Burkey's "Sneech" Paul Burkey writes on his Sneech-homepage: If you've been to this page before, you may have noticed the Sneech page has now been redesigned and brought into my current game development style. I've recently been working on various small scale game projects including two puzzle games called BoXiKoN and WordOMatic. These games marked a return to independent game development as well as a first entry to Windows and Pocket PC game development. I had hoped to be working on Sneech quite some time ago but the project has been pushed back so many times. I still don't have a clear timeline for Sneech development because I have so many other development commitments but I am able to clear up some details of a future for Sneech. My first aim is to recreate the Classic Sneech game almost exactly as it was on the Amiga 10 years ago. There will of course be some obvious changes, the graphics will be redrawn in True Colour (16bit/32bit) and the resolution will be doubled to 640x480 (Modern Retro Size!). There will undoubtedly be other changes but I want to try and create a Sneech game that is as faithful to the original as possible. I will also be developing this game for Pocket PC and I expect mobile phone versions also, I'm particularly interested in SmartPhone and Symbian based phones. The aim of this project is to create the ultimate retro style Snake Game across many platforms. Sneech will be available for Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Pocket PC and Linux and any other platforms I can get my hands on! Sneech 2 is still planned and will include many changes to the original game including Network mode and (optional) 3D/OpenGL mode. Other changes will include: Variable size game arenas, New CPU players with advanced AI, Up to 16 Worms in each game, New objects such as bridges and tunnels, New bonus items and much more. Development of Sneech 2 will not start until the Sneech remake is completed so this is all way off at the moment. (nba) (Translation: nba) [News message: 12. Feb. 2003, 15:17] [Comments: 3 - 14. e.p.i.c.: Puzzle game BoXiKoN finished for MorphOS The addictive puzzle game BoXiKoN from e.p.i.c. interactive has been finished for MorphOS. Originally developed for the Amiga computer this game has become very popular on other desktop and handheld platforms including Macintosh, PocketPC and Windows. BoXiKoN is a fun and addictive new puzzle game of strategy and logic. The game belongs to the family of shape games but BoXiKoN really is quite different. There is a large emphasis on planning, organization and selection and less on arcade style quick reactions. You can find out more on BoXiKoN in the projects section of the e.p.i.c. homepage (see title link). (ps) [News message: 12. individual Computers: New drivers, higher shipping costs individual Computers writes: "Dirk 'Doj' Jagdmann has updated his Linux-drivers for the Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper. In addition to SID functions, joysticks and an Amiga keyboard is now supported. The drivers, as well as the source codes, can be found on the author's website: http://llg.cubic.org/cw/. The Amiga One now supports our PCI POST code display. The diagnostic tool shows valuable information during system startup that can be debuggin-information for developers, or give hints for technicians in case of a defect. The cooperation with the development team of the Amiga One and Amiga OS4 has also been intensified on another field: Parts of the source code for the keyboard driver for the Catweasel MK3 have been given to Hyperion. We're especially happy to announce that individual Computers has found a new distribution channel: The wholesaler APi has started selling the PCI POST code display under article number 11008. Several tenthousand PC-resellers and workshops now have an easy possibility to get hold of this useful tool. APi does not sell to end users. Deathbed vigil DVD in stock: The must-have collector's item, the DVD-edition of Dave Haynie's movie about Commodore's demise and lots of bonus material is available and in stock. It's a DVD+R in NTSC video standard. All players convert automatically from NTSC to PAL-60 if necessary. Since some stand-alone DVD players have problems with DVD+R media, please check for compatibility before you buy. In any case, the DVD can be played back with a PC. The best thing: Each DVD has Dave Haynie's signature! Price: 39,- EUR. Bad news at the end: The Deutsche Paketpost has informed us in an automatic mailing that shipment cost will go up by more than 68% on March 1st, 2003. Therefore, we can only offer the special domestic rates of 4,- EUR for pre-paid goods and 8,- EUR for cash-on-delivery until the end of this month. Starting March 2003, we'll only ship with the Deutsche Paketpost in exceptional cases, we're already negotiating with UPS and DPD/German parcel service. International shipping rates are not affected." (nba) (Translation: nba) [News message: 10. Feb. 2003, 23:58] [Comments: 0] [Send via e-mail] [Print version] [ASCII version] |
