AltairBASIC source code by Bill Gates
Under the mentioned URL one can find a very interesting analysis of the AltairBASIC once programmed by Bill Gates. The British computer scientist Reuben Harris disassembled and elaborately described it on his website. There also is an AltairBASIC simulation basing on Java applets. (ps) (Translation: mj)

AROS News
As already reported there were hardware problems with the server hosting the AROS website. Some good and bad news about that: the good news is, that the hardware will be replaced, the bad news is, that the machine will be connected to a new network and thus the page temporary might not be available, again, due to DNS conversion.

Here the original message with more details:
As you might have noticed, we had a lot of hardware failures in the last months. Now there are good and bad news. The good one is that the hardware will be replaced. The bad one is that the machine is moved to a different network and this means that we'll have DNS hell all over again ! The "real" name of the machine on which AROS is hosted is "sebigbos.hepe.com". This name should work when aros.org doesn't. So when CVS doesn't like you anymore, check AROS/scripts/updatecvspath to fix the host name until I have fixed the DNS server (usually takes only several weeks...hrm :-). The mailing list runs on lists.hepe.com. The only thing which will not be reachable for the time being is the web and the ftp site.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Stardate-Mailbox back to the Internet
One week after a flashlight caused damage to the DSL connection the Stardate-Mailbox is available via Internet (http/telnet), again: stardate.2y.net (title link). Also the Dynamite server of same denominator is running, again.

Background:
While a thunderbolt in Muenster (Germany) and the surrounding area a flashlight hit the telephone switch and put off my DSL connection. The (German) Telekom repaired it, now. (ps) (Translation: mj)

Game: New Schlachtfeld pictures
In spite of the turbulences around the Amiga-Society of course development of the Game Schlachtfeld is being continued.

Edgar Leiding rendered some units for the game's board, again. Thus now there are nine unit previews available - there will be some changes, of course. There will be a survey regarding the camouflage: the question is, if the enemies should use different colours (red, blue, ...) or should differ by different textures and/or tactical field signs. You can also post your opinion about that in the forum of the Schlachtfeld website. (ps) (Translation: mj)

Palmiga is now called amiga-pda
The Palmiga Project is a project for all Amiga users that own a PalmOS-PDA to use with their Amigas.

Palm Inc. wrote to me that the name is violating their trademark, combined with the request to change it.

Due to this the mailinglist can from now on be reached via "amiga-pda": http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amiga-pda. Assigned members should post to amiga-pda@yahoogroups.com.

The Pamiga website will be redesigned in the near future available at the URL http://amigapda.shredzone.de.

I want to let you know they have send their request in a very polite way against the trend without announcing any lawyers. :) (ps) (Translation: gf)
