amiga-news.de: comments script enhanced
After enhancing the comments function in March 2004 with the possibility of an optional registration Sven Drieling has now further improved the script.

Update

Changes:
  • Login now via HTML form including logged in-stay option instead of the login via HTTP authentification.
  • After login/logout as well as after sending a comment you stay on the original page.
New features:
  • Preview - Before sending a comment you get a preview so you are able to do corrections.
  • Direct link - Within the comments there's now a direct link (without sessionID) so the coments can now easily be bookmarked and the link to a coment can easily be forwarded to others.
  • Admin comments - Three following stars '***' can now be entered only by admins. They are used for highlighting (green text, BLOCKQUOTE) of hints to the comments' presentation.
  • Admin - Various enhancements for an easier administration of the comments.
Bugfixes:
  • The '&'-separator in the URLs appears in the HTML source code now as '&'.
  • If the text of the comment now passes the allowed 10.000 characters the text won't be deleted anymore.
During the script change have some comment s gone into the Nirvana. We ask for your understanding.

Update 27-Jun-2004:
If problems or errors happen because of the new script we ask for a most detailed and comprehensive description of these in the comments. Please name also the used browser. We will fix appearing bugs one by one as soon as possible.

Designers and musicians for new AmigaOS
For the games project "TripleA" (working title) designers and musicians are looked for. To say it straight away there will be no pay for it.

The official designer(s) and musician(s) will get free access to all games versions. Of course, they'll be mentioned in the game credits. In return the graphic and music files will be part of the official release.

Graphics:
  • The games graphics are fully 32bit, so everything from render graphics to cartoon graphics can be used.
  • The single games objects aren't restricted by the resolution.
  • The minimum number of needed objects can be enhanced by the designer (!) and will be automatically integrated into the levels by the games engine.
  • The number of animations is also not limited.
Music:
  • It is thought of a music player similar to the one already existing in BoulderDäsh. Various tests with Protracker AHI players are still running.
  • The musician should therefore have knowledge in composing with Protracker and should be capable to create subdued (lift/golf-course) music, too.
  • The possibility of creating sound effects is advantageous.
Interested people can mail directly. Please use "Grafiker" or "Musiker" as subject so the mails don't end in the SPAM filter.

For easy selection, designers can attach a picture showing at least three animation phases of a walking person e.g. a cartoon person. Musicians can attach a small piece of music.

Questions about the kind of game or similar won't be answered.

Microsoft warns of specially critical lack of security
Today Microsoft which is the worldwide biggest producer of software has pointed out to a critical lack of security in its WWW-browser Internet Explorer which has been known for some weeks. According to the statement users can be infected by Trojans on pages which seems to be reliable. This applies to servers which use the Microsofts Internet Information Services (IIS) and which have been manipulated by another lack of certainty. This can be fixed by a patch. The lack in the Internet Explorer can be only fixed by installing of a preversion of the Service Pack 2 for Windows XP but which should not be used on computers which are used in the production. You also can set the preferences of security of the Internet Explorer to "high" but thus you cannot use JavaScript any longer. Those ones who do not want to risk something should not use the Internet Explorer as long as it is not fixed. (cs) (Translation: dr)

Events: Amiga Alpe Adria 2004 Update
Amiga Alpe Adria, the annual alternative and classic computing get-together organized by our Italian Amiga Forever team, will take place in little more than a week in Udine, a beautiful town located between Venice and the Alps.

The event home page is at http://0xAA.org. The web site has just been updated with the latest flight and travel resources, links to cultural events, and exhibits information. It is now a very good time to take advantage of last-minute airline offers. Additionally, tickets are still available for concerts and performances which range from hip-hop superstars Cypress Hill (at the nearby Rototom Sunsplash festival), to Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance, to Italian singer and songwriter Nek.

This week's confirmed Amiga Alpe Adria guests include Ben Hermans of Hyperion (developers of Amiga OS 4.0), Christian Kemp (founder and maintainer of Amiga news site ANN.lu) and other Amiga personalities.

Amiga Alpe Adria is free to all attendees, including exhibitors. Pre-registration is appreciated. The Amiga Alpe Adria web site includes additional details and contact information to assist visitors in their preparations and journeys.

We hope to see you on July 3rd!

Regards,
Michael C. Battilana

Dealer: point.design closed
Not long ago we could proudly deliver the first AmigaOS 4.0 version to our AmigaOne customers. We are very delighted about this.

Nevertheless point.design in Austria has been closed because of personal reasons. I will move to Phoenix, AZ, in the USA because of a job offer. The desicion has been not easy for me but I had to use this chance. This unfortunately means the end for point.design and for OASE, too.

It has been a very exciting time. We succeeded in building up something in a market which to many users was alreday dead. We helped to organize the "AmigaOS 4 on Tour", have organized a show event in Austria called OASE and have tried to offer products and support for Amiga users.

So I am really delighted that we finally succeeded in publishing the AmigaOS-pre-CD. I am still looking forward to new Amiga products.

I want to thank you all customers and all who helped us. It made lot of fun to work with you.

YOUR
Jürgen & Silke Schober

PS: Maybe I will make it to see Sacramento in July. ;) (snx) (Translation: dr)

Golem: Why Don't We Rebel Against Copyright Law - Interview with L. Lessig

"Why don't we rebel against copyright?" is the question, in relation to which Golem.de has conducted an interview with professor of jurisprudence Lawrence Lessig, who's a decisive critic of the present copyright regulations and a member of the board of the Free Software Foundation.

In the discussion with Golem.de he talks about his vision of the culture of the 21st century, criticizes copyrights - which belong to companies, who hold onto them while the actual author dies sooner or later, and speaks in favor of necessity to have P2P exchange methods. (snx) (Translation: dm)

Update of the New Edition of the Turbo-Card Apollo 630
Matthias Bertram wrote to provide an update of the new edition of the Amiga 600 turbo-card Apollo 630 (68030@40 MHz, SIMM socket for up to 32 MB RAM, connection for 68882 FPU) through Individual Computers (amiga-news.de reported):

"There's news again on the Apollo front: I've already found 70 purchasers for the new Apollo!

About 25 other interested people have not yet decided. Should 100 units be ordered, the price will be 100 euros instead of the 130 euro price listed until now.

Jens Schönfeld has a couple ideas concerning the CPU and the attachment of the turbo-card. But he says he doesn't want to reveal more right now." (snx) (Translation: dm)

HellChess marks the appearance of a new chess game that is free in the Amiga version, and also of all things payment-required for the Linux, Windows, GameBoy Advanced, Palm and PocketPC versions in development (screenshots).

An excerpt of the features of the program (9 MB):
  • Capable AI for the single player mode
  • many exercise instructions
  • many configuration options
  • online play possibility through Direct Connect or the HellHound master server
A PPC/RTG Amiga version is still in development.

Update: (26th June 2004, 17:52, snx)
As the author commented, the next-released version of the game has problems with AGA/ECS, therefore the archive from yesterday has been replaced with an update. To that end there's an 8-bit version of the contained animations being worked on for systems without graphics cards. (snx) (Translation: dm)
