Goodbye Amiga Arena!
Dear Amiga fellows,

Amiga Arena will finish its online activities until 31.01.2002. Finally there were personal as well as private reasons for taking this step.

I want to thank a lot all developers and online-magazines, print-magazines as well as the users for your support and the long time of good teamwork! Without you Amiga Arena would not have been possible! It is impossible to mention all of you by names.

To the end I present the games "Cygnus 8" and "Mobile Warfare" by Applaud Software for download. Amiga Arena will be also stayed online after the special price offer has been finished.

See you! Your Olaf Köbnik - Amiga Arena R.I.P. 1998 - 2002

Idruna Software

Idruna Software Launches Pocket Phojo
Paul Nolan, who is well-known by his picture manipulation software called 'Photogenics', has introduced a new software of this manner called Pocket Phojo for handhelds.

»Idruna Software Launches Pocket Phojo, the First Handheld Photo-Editing and Wireless Transmission Solution Specifically for Photojournalists
San Diego, CA -- January 30th, 2002 -- Idruna Software Inc., an innovative provider of desktop and mobile graphics software is pleased to announce the launch of Pocket Phojo, the first handheld photo editing and wireless transmission solution specifically designed for photojournalists. Instead of requiring a bulky laptop to get photos to the press agencies, photojournalists can now fit all of the tools they need in their pocket. For situations such as rapidly breaking stories, or in locations where laptops are impractical, this represents a breakthrough in the time required to get a photo from the camera to the photo desk.«

Tool: AutoUpdateWB Version 45.1
Massimo Tantignone has written many tiny but useful tools which he offers at his website for download. The Program 'AutoUpdateWB' version 45.1 has been added. With this small patch Workbench-windows will be automatically updated whenever you create, rename or delete a file within the window.

For instance if you open a Workbench-window but you delete some files from the Shell you can see how the appropriating icons vanishes out of your window.

StrICQ

Messenger: StrcICQ V2 - Second BETA-Version
On the homepage of StrICQ the second BETA version of the client V2 is released.

Download: STRICQv2.lha

Important hints for installation:

  1. Unarchive to its own directory. STRICQ and STRICQ v2 are incompatible.
  2. Only run STRICQ v2 from a shell prompt (I have not tested it with an icon, are you brave?)
  3. There is a lot of debug output to the shell window, you may need to send me a copy of it.
  4. Run the program, it will not be able to get online right away.
  5. Enter your Nick (whatever), your UIN, and your Password. Click 'Save'.
  6. Close the program by using the close window button on the contact list window.
  7. Your prefs are now saved.
  8. Restart the program and if all went well, you should now be online.

Know Problems and Caveats: IMPORTANT!
  • You can not add contacts manually yet. If you have never used ICQ2001b, don't bother using STRICQ v2 at this time.
  • If you have used ICQ2001b before, STRICQ v2 will import your contact list from the server.
  • You can't close the prefs window, so don't try. :-)
  • If you get an enforcer hit, please forward it/them to me on the mailing list.
  • You will need the latest versions of NList, NListtree, and TextInput.

Amiga commercial (4min and 30sec) from 1992 discovered
A 4-part Amiga commercial from 1992 is now available exclusively at The Commodore Billbard. It's a whopping total of 44 MegaBytes.

It's a big commercial split into 4 parts. It was included on the VHS edition of "The Lawnmower Man" back in 1992. At the beginning of the tape, you'd find the usual movie-trailers. In between the trailers, you would see these commercials for the A600 and the CDTV. If you watched all 4 commercials, you would be able to answer 3 questions and get the chance to win one of three different Amiga packs.

You'll find audio-previews of the commercials too, for you to listen to before you download the big files.

The clips can be found in: Commercials -> Amiga Commercials.

Messenger: CIM now supporting PGP5 for encrypting chat
Marius Schwarz wrote:
CIM is now supporting PGP5 to encrypt packets. This mode was not tested, yet. Since PGP5 outwardly only differs in its syntax from PGP2.6, I guess it works without problem.

CIM allows to send messages through firewalls server independent and with PGP encypted, has a clear user management and useful additional information.

CIM is not compatibel with ICQ , AIM or YIM. (ps) (Translation: mj)

Virus Help Denmark

Virus Help Denmark: VirusZ III Version 0.96
Well, this is the best news in 2002 (so far).. Georg Hoermann has started to update VirusZ III, and a new full update is now available for download at our homepage.

Here is some info about the update:

Name: VirusZ III v0.96
Archive name : Vz3_096.lha
Archive size: 35.575 Bytes
Date: 27 January 2002
Programmer: Georg Hörmann
Requires: OS 2.04+, xvs.library

Neu in VirusZ III v0.96:

  • Once again written by Georg Hörmann, as Dirk Stöcker doesn't have any time. No longer beta version, because all features are working well, missing ones are no reason for a beta release.
  • Fixed bug in vector check that appeared with xvs.library 33.37. No longer uses private stuff from inside the library.
  • Fixed bug in vector check startup code invented by Dirk's updates. No longer uses uninitialized gadget pointers.
  • Added 'Show...' function for 'Data Viruses' from xvs.library.
  • Rearranged 'File Check Preferences' back to just one window after Dirk replaced the old archive stuff with XAD.
  • Added missing 'ROM Update' memlist entries to the brain. But: There still exists one entry that cannot be added because of missing static data.
  • Added recognition for MuForce and MuGuardianAngel patches.
(ps)
